When you wanna draw father-son bonding, so you spend the day working on an AU of your AU. Draxum and Donnie never poisoned with Empyrean! Which means Draxum was a mildly decent father, and Donnie was never put through hell. Maybe in the Sep!au they’ll get to this point someday!

Draxum had the most exposure, working with it daily. Effects: anger and a stronger obsession with unlocking the power and secrets of the Empyrean. Going through the ritual was like a massive reboot to his brain. He becomes closer to s2 Draxum, but waaaay more ashamed for all the horrible things he’s done.

Three had about the same amount of exposure as Leo, seeing as he never worked with it directly, and very rarely when Draxum allowed him to assist him in the main lab. It’s the cause of his visions, but most of his frantic behavior just comes from the massive amount of trauma he’s been through. Three has not gone through the cleansing ritual, but it’s likely to only help lessen the visions. It would not be a cure all. He will come do more research on empyrean at the end of season 2–this will be how the movie ties in.

Leo went through multiple exposure sessions with Kitsune, but a big difference was that she was combining the Empyrean with her magic. Because of this, it was less concentrated. Effects, anger and bloodlust/obsession with protecting his family. The effects aren’t as bad as with Draxum, and they grow better after Leo’s ritual, and with daily meditation.

Anyway, for the au- I’ve changed my mind, Young!Marcia and Cerys are like 22 or something. To make Alther sad. I’ll explain in a sec.

For present time Cerys and Marcia in the past- they’re honestly having a great time. Cerys is somehow alive and the same age as Marcia in the past (don’t ask me why, for plot reasons and also so people don’t know when she’ll die). So Alther and Mathilde see their daughters having enormous levels of trauma, and are like. Fuck it. And proceed to be the best parents ever and let Marcia and Cerys cry, and help them the best they can without knowing what the trauma is. And Cerys and Marcia just get to be the future ExtraOrdinary wizard and Crown Princess (Marcia isn’t exactly regarded as an apprentice to Alther, considering she’s been EO for over a decade) and are having fun, and being free from the weight of all the pressure, and meanwhile everyone in the Castle- EVERYONE even just random people who don’t really know them- are trying to figure out if Marcia and Cerys are married in the future bc they’re basically acting like they are.

Past Cerys and Marcia in the present are having an… interesting time. They don’t really like having to be acting Queen and EO so young (don’t tell Marcia what happens in a few years) and Marcia technically hadn’t finished her apprenticeship but the just. Choose not to tell anyone that. So they’re feeling kinda pressured, but they’re also young and happy and not as traumatized so if Cerys has a boring meeting she doesn’t want to go to, she and Marcia just. Make an excuse. Why yes, Marcia did once Project flames onto a random building (that was empty! She checked!) so they could ‘deal with the fire’ and just run through the Castle having fun and enjoying the future. Everyone who actually knew them at this age thinks is the cutest thing ever. (The present also revives the betting pool of are-they-or-are-they-not-dating. In answer- they are not, because Marcia is an oblivious bean, but Cerys is not and has been attempting to ask her out for weeks. This is fabulous entertainment.)

I saw your post about your 2003 Sep Au and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Mrs Jones is EXACTLY the sort of person who would take Donnie in without blinking an eye!! Leo raised by the Damiyo is so much fun - what does this mean for his relationship with the Daniyo’s son? Raph raised by the Triceratons fajshenbdkshdj. He’s gotta be like one of those tiny dogs that is convinced he could win a fight with a Great Dane. FOOT MIKEY!!! Ah!! I am losing my mind here I love this so much!!!!

I've actually drawn some concept art and various doodles over on my art blog @tblsomedoodles under the tag "Ninja Club au". Each of them have their own little doodle/info dump page and everything : ) (i'll add links just in case. Donny, Mikey, Raphael, and Leo.)

But yeah lol! Raphael definitely has a lot of small dog energy, with the fighting skills to back it up : ).

and Leo's relationship with the Daimyo's son (Ue) is pretty strained. Ue sees him as a sort of rival simply for existing, and thus is pretty competitive towards him with damn near everything.

The empyrean that Leo was subjected to, does that make him a little unhinged like Donnie? Or due to his limited exposure, and I’m guessing his training he’s able to handle it?

You’ve might explained this before in your comments but I can’t find anything 🙈

So I think it’s a common assumption in my AU that Empyrean is the cause of Donnie’s mental issues…but Donnie’s poor mental health is due to all the torture and trauma that Draxum put him through, and the Empyrean only heightens it by making his visions more realistic, and his emotions more erratic.

In the EW verse, Empyrean enhances emotions that are already there. This is why Draxum becomes obsessive with figuring out his mutation formula and training Three. Over the years, without the Empyrean, he would’ve been able to focus on more important things, like raising Three properly, and was even heading in that direction, but then they started collecting it. Stern parenting and simple tests became horrible abuse and dangerous experimentation.

For Leo, Kitsune was incorporating her own magic with his exposure. So the Empyrean made her spells to control him stronger. What helps snap Leo out of this control is seeing his brothers for the first time, and more importantly, what happens to him during his three week coma (which should be explained in the next update or so). His coma will act as almost a system reboot for his mind. This will cause the unusual turn around in his behavior, that we’ve heard Cass talk about. When Leo sees his brothers, it throws him off his game, and causes him to make mistakes, but after waking from his coma, Leo really begins to act like a totally different person to the one the Shredder has meticulously crafted.

But judging by that big pit of green goop, Leo’s not going back to his family without one last Empyrean exposure. And he’s pretty angry right now. Hope that won’t affect his relationships with his brothers and father 😬.

Could you elaborate on Venus being a cyborg? I want to write a scene where Donnie performs maintenance, but I’m still not really sure which parts of Vee are metal and which aren’t.

Are any of her limbs detachable? Or is it all a metallic skeleton? Do you think she deals with phantom pains if Donnie has had to amputate anything?

Not a ton of peaceful moments, but when Draxum would leave the two would be able to relax and spend the day by Three’s wading pool.

Venus mask is stitched on. A lot of her skin/limbs was lost thanks to a combination of spending most of her life in a vat and also her illness. Three has to constantly perform maintenance and update her cybernetics and to make sure the transplants are healthy. So far whatever was causing her body to fail has been stopped from spreading. She does deal with a lot of general daily pain, less from Three’s cybernetics, because he did such a good job on them, and more on the joined spots where Draxum replaced with “spare parts”. It does however hurt when Three has to do mechanical repairs, but it’s normally so light and moves amazingly realistic that Venus often forgets that arm isn’t real.

Venus’s shell and plastron had to be replaced. The shell is mostly metal and much more sleek than her old shell. Three made the plastron replacements look realistic since Venus asked.

Venus will be kind of a sad character for a while, but she will be happy in the end! Donnie and Mikey are the brothers she’s closest to. Donnie spoils her to the extreme, and Mikey is of course her twin so Vee likes to drive Mikey crazy. She is technically the baby of the family, but her and Mikey together are unstoppable when their wants align. Splinter stands no chance of saying no.

Venus does have a very dry sense of humor which leads to Three sometimes not even registering them as jokes. When she gets rescued she’s very much a girly girl. She likes dresses and bows and pink.

Three’s mind doesn’t really think of anything when he’s being rescued. It’s very much a “Savage Donnie” moment where he’s there and talking, but he’s so upset that his mind has gone blank. But even then, Big Mama has kept Venus away for nearly a year, so Three thinks he’s been abandoned and Venus isn’t really on his mind…. Their reunion Cont👇

Venus will see Donnie again somewhere in the middle of “season one”. It won’t be a long reunion, but enough for Donnie to realize he’s been enjoying living with his family, while Venus has been stuck being Big Mama and Draxum’s errand girl. He feels extremely guilty for basically giving up on her. He allowed his bad thoughts, and visions (yes he does see her as well) to convince him that she has abandoned him, but it turns out, all this time, it was the other way around.

Unfortunately, Donnie was the only one to see Venus, and he thinks the fam won’t believe him when he tells them about seeing her, but he’s surprised to find out that they do and they all promise Donnie they’ll rescue her.

In season 2 they run into Venus again, and Donnie is able to have a better conversation with her, but Big Mama has done such a good job spinning lies, that Venus runs off before Donnie can convince her he’s sincerely sorry about leaving her behind. This is when the family learns that Mikey and Venus are twins. Mikey feels bad that Venus seems to have fallen into Big Mama’s web, we will see him angry with Big Mama for the first time on Venus’s behalf.

At the season 2 midpoint Venus agrees to help with Draxum’s cleansing ritual.

At the s2 finale we will see her still aligned with Big Mama BUT….[spoiler] and she will disappear to get her mind together.

She will make a short appearance in the movie.

S3 will be very Venus and Jennika heavy, and it’ll all be about their integration into the family unit. Jennika has her own life in the Hidden City, but Venus will split her time with the family and [spoiler].

The boys really all treat Venus as the little, baby sister, but all to varying degrees. April, Donnie, and Raph dote on her, Leo is wayyy too overprotective and Mikey rubs being slightly older in her face all the time, but they will team up to be The Ultimate Youngest™️. Out of all the “sister group” April and Venus get along the most like sisters. April really helps Venus be girly and learn it’s okay to enjoy these things, to be more than just a mindless drone (Leo will very often help with this mindset as well, and it allows them something deeper to bond over).

With the newest update, it's got me thinking a lot about Karai's role in this au. More on her actions and treatment of Leo and what lies in the future for her. It's been mentioned and made obvious that the "sibling" (i say in quotes since Karai doesn't even see Leo as an equal) relationship between Leo and Karai is nothing short on unhealthy and toxic. Thus, Leo learning what a real relationship with siblings is with the Hamato family. Karai wants to be the better soldier in the Shredder's eyes and seems to take any opportunity to bring down Leo. But something I keep thinking about is what happens to her after Leo has the emperyon removed and (along with the apocalypse future) after stopping the invasion. Basically, is there still a chance at some sort of redemption for her, or are her actions throughout the au unable to be forgiven. It's said that after Leo leaves the Foot, she tries to prove to Shredder that she didn't even need him to begin with and can handle herself just fine. The only time we've seen her act nice towards Leo is right after the session with Kitsune, where Leo is pretty out of it, but who's to say how often that happens. And then there's Leo himself and how he sees Karai after all that happens. Does he just try and forget about her, or does he hold any kind of resentment like Shredder. There's the question of whether he would be willing to forgive her for her actions. Though this isn't even taking into how Karai wasn't actually Shredder daughter but Splinter's instead.

I know that the answer to this is most likely spoilers, but I could into a whole character analysis on whether redemption is an option for Karai or if she's reached a point like Shredder. It would be interesting to hear you thought on what you can say. Though for the time being, I can wait to see what happens! Some of the future stuff is kinda spoilers, but I will say, she’s not a monster on the same level as Saki. She’s certainly not an angel, but she will have her own arc and we’ll see how the chips fall.

At the moment in the comic, Karai thinks seeing Leo fail is a necessary stepping stone to proving her own worth and she’s very bitter over Leo earning a commander title before her. Once Leo leaves, and she has most of Saki’s attention on her, she realizes that the Shredder will never be pleased, Karai starts to rethink her feelings toward Leo, and realizes how much she misses how they used to be. She also has no idea of Shredder’s full plan to create his own dark armor to imprison Leo.

In the past Karai, Usagi, and Leo were…friends (after a rocky start) for a very few short years. Usagi being probably the most distant, for the obvious reasons of hating Saki and the Foot Clan. But with Karai and Leo following him around, training together, and bunking together, he eventually stops taking his anger out on them, and becomes a reluctant participant in their childish hi-jinks. Unfortunately, that does not last long.

Around a year before Usagi manages his escape, Leo’s goofing around on a mission leads to Karai getting seriously hurt. As a result Saki punishes Leo so severely and Leo gets the crack on his plastron. Usagi goes to see Leo, but it’s like he’s a totally different person after that. Leo no longer smiles or jokes and takes training much too seriously.

Karai isn’t much better. She seems to meet Leo’s cold attitude with one of her own, and her teasing becomes much harsher and biting. They all grow distant and Usagi sees no other option but to try and escape. Usagi even extends his hand to Leo when the two cross paths, hoping that Leo would snap out of this strange, new personality he’s adopted, but when Leo doesn’t even react, Usagi turns and leaves for good.

Things get even more strained without Usagi around to act as mediator. The only time Karai allows herself to show she cares, are the moments after Leo’s sessions because he is so out of it. She assumes he doesn’t remember enough that she can be a little softer with him, and Leo usually never calls attention to those times, so who knows.

Once Leo spends time with his family, and sees how a healthy sibling relationship should look, he often wonders how things might’ve been different growing up in the safety of the Hamato Clan. When the family learns that Karai is actually their sister, Leo makes it his mission to save her from the Foot Clan.

Hello, so what exactly is the seprated!au I just discovered your account and I'm pretty interested in it and I'm just kinda lost. If you don't mind telling me

So a good place to start is checking out my pinned post! This au is nearing a year old so that post has what I consider to be the most important links!

The main comic starts with Mikey’s arc which is kinda a prologue and introduces everyone and a bit of their situations.

Leo and Mikey were taken during a supply run by the Foot and split up from Splinter and Raph. Mikey managed to escape and grew up with Big Mama, but Leo was raised in the Foot Clan, and Donnie, from the start was only ever raised by Draxum.

The au has a main comic but I’ve been asked a lot of questions about it while making it, so if you look at the other tags in that pinned post like the ‘Sep!AU life’ tag you’ll find more art, and the ‘Sep!AU info dump’ tag has…well a lot of info! Also there is a main timeline that I’d really recommend glancing at! Especially the parts that cover anything before the main comic starts (it is labeled where to stop if you don’t want to be spoiled too much!)
