When I get calls I will be constantly threatened by two children named Micha and Sergrei, to pick up my phone. They also may or may not have rigged my phone to explode? I’m not sure on that yet

40 Grey Living Rooms That Help Your Lounge Look Effortlessly Stylish and Understated
Need to revamp your living room, but not sure where to start? Pick grey to colour it. No longer associated with dungeons, dull office blocks or unpainted walls, grey is a hue perfectly understated, making your furniture look contemporary sans large risks in design. Cut Lego-style stairs into a shaft concrete wall, amidst relaxed L-chairs in the hue. Go fifty shades darker, with charcoal leather couches, LED-lit bookcases and a roaring fire all in tone. Brighten it up with light grey walls, framed monochrome prints and a cornered Corinthian column. Effortlessly achieve a cool, up-to-date edge with our forty grey living rooms as your inspiration.
Visualizer: Thai Quang   Combine grey and green together for a look that’s fresh. The tropical leaves and pineapples in this grey and white interior make a splash upon an exposed brick wall, two grey ottomans and two Scandinavian coffee tables built to match.
Photographer: Anders Bergsted   Source: Entrance   Grey living rooms take on many styles. This light grey number simulates Scandinavia with its six monochrome prints, two square leather chairs and structured, rectangular furniture. A Greek column fireplace in the corner adds a touch more character. Check out our 50 Inspirational Scandinavian-Style Living Rooms post for more interiors in this theme.
Visualizer: aTng 糖   Prefer dark Scandinavian interior design? Paint a wall almost black, colour your floors in dark slate and pop a cat on its frontage, like this bold interior. A lighter grey couch, industrial light and a range of potted cacti provide items of interest.
Designer: One Work   Go simple yet functional with a lounge in grey. The slick concrete feature wall of this black-and-grey interior is peppered with an artsy staircase, grey L-seater and abstract oval coffee tables.
Source: Archvizer   Grey creates space for dominant features. Mis-matching wooden floors, grey couches and muted accessories make way for a large facial abstract on an exposed brick wall. Red-lined shelving and a miniature yacht help tie the artwork in.
Visualizer: Roman Kolyada   Grey’s a great base for a modern living room. This decor employs dangling lights to illuminate a grey couch, floor and ottoman with a matching kitchen bench and sprinkles of red and blue. A Turkish rug and floral print add pattern to form.
Designer: Zrobym   Grey walls need not be dark. This light and bright lounge is backgrounded by almost-white tiles, a snug suede L-seater, and pops of pastel in a pink seat and beige print. A multi-jointed lamp to the side stretches beside a paint-splashed table leg.
Architect: Sreten Jovanovic & Maja Urh   Visualizer: Anna Fedyukina   Use many shades of grey. This room combines fingerprint artwork, a grey-tiled floor, corrugated iron wall and marble fireplace to make grey with green creepers look effortlessly sophisticated.
Visualizer: Rohit Aurora   Decorating a small space? Grey and white can make it look larger. This attic-roofed interior coats a wall and a half in mid-grey and a floor in splotches, amidst framed prints, photographs and square suede cushions. A potted tree in the corner speaks nature.
Visualizer: Dekaa   Grey works fabulously as a minimalist shade. This smooth painted wall provides shelving behind a suede L-seater and simple grey rug. A swing arm lamp illuminates a scramble of white cushions and accessories.
Visualizer: Eduard Caliman   Go dark for the ultimate in living room class. A carved-in fireplace, LED-lit shelving and charcoal leather couches frame a black velvet rug and acrylic coffee table. Lighter, textured wallpaper in the centre focuses the eye as windowed light streams in.
Visualizer: Denis Fomin   Make your bookcase a feature. The stencilled lines of this lounge’s black shelving hold a multitude of reads, tribal statuettes and vases, as a soft block couch and ball light enhance their enjoyment. A concrete wall and polished grey floor form a slick backing canvas.
Visualizer: Filip Sapojnicov   Grey works with pops of colour. Paired with many different patterns and shades in pink, the shade covers the base wall, pendant and shelving niche to avoid cluttering.
Visualizer: Andrey Avdeenko   Use grey and a shape as your design staples. With grey colouring an exposed brick wall, rug, walls and couches, rectangles come to the party in an inset fireplace, ceiling LEDs and one of the longest L-seaters known to man.
Visualizer: Sergrey Baskakov   Grey allows your living room to host more patterns and textures. This lounge spices it up with a wooden slat wall, quilted rug, smooth book cabinet and painterly canvases. A sprig of orchids to the side adds polish.
Visualizer: Varayut Denthlordkarn   Let texture be your focal point. Showcasing an abstract artwork at its centre, this lounge’s grainy wall tiles, suede seating and woollen rug keep more than a hint of the cosy in a room wide and spacious. Check out our living room wall textures post for more focused inspiration.
Visualizer: Andrew Skliarov   Accent grey furniture with wooden features. This structured living room seats its almost-futon sofas on a wooden floor, its ornaments on wooden shelves and a zigzagging floor lamp against wall-to-ceiling wooden panelling.
Visualizer: Mirela Świerc   Draw the eye in with pops of dark grey. This mostly-wooden clad room paints a TV frame, coats an ottoman and offers a seat in charcoal colouring. Bursts of white in a matching quilted seat and foot stool match the foreground coffee table.
Visualizer: Plasterlina   Grey can work with warmer colouring. This autumnal living room creates heat with an olive green feature wall and terracotta cushioning, as grey softens the scene with an L-seater couch, woollen rug and TV panel. A roaring fire, wood stack and two Chinese lanterns make it homely.
Visualizer: Now Design   Create a contemporary tribal look using white, green and grey. Mid-grey walls pair with a circular charcoal art piece, grey-wooden table and stretching hover lamp. A volcanic ash vase holds sprigs of bamboo, as lush green fernery hides behind the sofa.
Visualizer: Hatice Unsal   Bring the outside in. This concrete living room uses large wall panels and a grey-tiled floor to make noise between two rows of creepers. A simple wooden coffee table boasting a stone corner mingles with grey armchairs and pot plants in this 21st Century scene.
Source: Ditre Italia   Use grey to accentuate your lounge’s sense of the unusual. Ceiling-height olive trees stand tall in this two-level design, as brown leather couches catch their fall afront a stencil bookshelf. Grey colours the rug, floor, walls and chairs, creating coolness with a contemporary twist.
Visualizer: Hotwalls   Grey lets brighter colours shine. This lounge’s orange chair strikes a pose alongside hints of dusty pink and a rug, marble plinth, walls, blinds and sofa in grey.
Visualizer: Svyatyuk Stanislav   After living rooms with large wall art? This darker grey room is a lesson in using shades, as its walls stretch seamlessly across light and dark panelling. The painterly canvas finds friends in two bright orange cushions and a stencil coffee table.
Visualizer: Nastya Ivanchuk & Marina Tsishyna   Monochrome prints are perfect for grey lounges. A full-length photographic decal meets our gaze beside a simple grey couch, differently-shaded cushions and a mottled rug. Black elements in a series of pipe lighting, a standing camera light and marble splashback make its contrasts seem natural.
Visualizer: Maks Marukhin   Like your lounge clean and spacious? Keep it tidy with grey inset shelving, a woollen rug and leather L-seater beside exposed brick. A yellow and grey abstract adds creative edge.
Visualizer: ATO Studio   Create contemporary drama with a living room in grey. The bold contrasts between the almost-black side wall and pendants, the light grey couch and kitchen appears almost monochrome in this design. A deep berry chair and resonating artwork avoid a clash in themes.
Visualizer: Zrobym   A yellow accent living room nicely twists grey. Homer peeps from a cushion on a couch in the hue, as grey stretches behind and below the sofa. Relaxed wooden furniture holds pieces in white, allowing room for a sunny yellow panel.
Visualizer: Marina Selivanova   Keep it light, bright and shiny. This almost-white living room introduces grey in a comfy corner seater, greyscale photography and zebra-striped cushions. An artistically-lined rug and black square fruit bowl tie the pieces in.
Visualizer: Oporski Architektura   Grey is perfect for the minimalist living room. This space designs with angles only, bathing a block L-couch and exposed brick wall in grey. Stark monochrome finds in a TV, artwork and chair add drama to form.
Visualizer: Tâm Võ   Grey and metallics are the best of friends. Lit up with firework chandeliers and a designer table lamp, here the luxurious Atollo lamp, this room screams luxury with mid-century modern pieces. Grey and gold wallpaper, a partly-living wall and a pea green armchair bring the antique to modern day.
Visualizer: Tracy Ong   Grey can make double-height living rooms majestic. A dangling cluster of pendant lights make the most of high ceilings, amongst charcoal curtains and a many-tiled wall. A stacked stone fireplace and fluffy mushroom rug make the space warmer.
Visualizer: Kholostova Olga   Pair grey with yellow for a personal touch. This lounge screams through a trio of buttercup pendants, a Greco-Roman bust, printed canvas of a rapper and modern wooden platform. Grey ensures it’s not busy with muted Roman blinds and a sofa half in colour.
Visualizer: Filip Sapojnicov   Create a French boudoir feel with a contemporary twist. Accessorized with a small standing bust, white-bulb chandelier and swing arm wall lamp, French panelling gets moody aside simple grey furniture and white-bordered walls.
Visualizer: Horizont Design   Grey can lend room to more dominant features. The glass bauble chandelier, zigzagging floors and turquoise couch of this living room are afforded coolness with light grey paint and wallpaper.
Visualizer: Polygons   Going industrial? Grey is the perfect colour scheme. The rough wooden rafters and cabinetry of this lounge-come-kitchen are made modern with a soft grey L-seater, fluffy rug and floors. Walls and ceilings come to the party in full-scale concrete.
Visualizer: S Marshall   Prefer the look of the artist’s retreat? With a ceiling and feature wall in shiny stone, grey wooden floors and slumped couches join to chill. An electric guitar and potted twisted cane hint at greater creativity.
Visualizer: Serhii Seinov   Create a rustic living room in black and grey. Centred around a trio of tree trunk coffee tables, this grey winding sofa and ceiling-height bookcase are beautifully lit up by a train station window.
Visualizer: Mihail Scherbak & Timothy Kalakutsky   Let yellow and wood add interior pizzazz. Set upon textured grey, wood forms into ceiling rafters, Scandinavian shelving and a rustic coffee table. Yellow bandages grey seats with striking lines of colours, as a metal TV cabinet and iron chandelier cement this industrial-style living room design.
Visualizer: Romas Noreika   Grey acts inspirational in this industrial loft. As wood streamlines the space in rafters, couch frames and a winding staircase, grey adds polish in slick concrete, distressed walls and a darkened, piping-feature glass panel. A bouquet of lightbulbs completes the look.

Sergei/Rei Headcanon
Okay so… this is longer than I thought it would be.
Sergei/Rei would NEVER HAPPEN organically in a non AU, unless, there was another inter team relationship happening. So if Kai was with Boris or Yuiry, or Takao was with Yuriy, then this could happen.
And it’s just a ton of fluff and no angst. Like these two just hit it off given the time to talk and interact.
Sergei is the one who cooks for the Borg Boys and Rei’s always been the one to cook no matter which team he was on.
So naturally, when the whole team goes to visit the Borg Boys so Kai and/or Takao can see their partner, Rei tries to be a good guest and help out where he can. And the Borg boys are naturally clean and he has nothing to pick up after, so he tries to help in the kitchen.
And at first Sergei is hesitant, because Kai is a fucking disaster in the kitchen and has almost burned down the house twice just trying to heat up soup. But he lets Rei help, and turns out???? The tiger is good at cooking????
So they spend about three times a day cooking together and they come up with some Russian/Chinese hybrid cuisine (idk if it’s possible but I’m too lazy to google what Russian food is other then cold soup).
And Rei is so happy to help! Sergei is always so quiet so it’s hard for Rei to get a read on what kind of person he is. He can be so expressionless. (And Rei finds out Sergei is the Borg Boys resident Softie™️, and he’s so kind and nice)
But anywho. The kitchen cabinets are just taller than the ones in China and Japan. And Rei finds that even on his tip toes he can’t always reach the top shelf to grab something (and okay after a week there rei thinks it might be on purpose that everything he needs is so high up. But that’s a conspiracy theory he shares with Max)
[but also!!!! Max and Ivan making bets on those two getting together.]
And Rei is struggling!!!! On his tiptoes a bowl just literally out of his grasp but if he can manage to catch it right he should be able to get it down, WHEN!!!! All of a sudden he’s being lifted off his feet and now he’s up in the air and grabs the bowl.
And Rei feels his face is hot, when Sergei finally places his feet gently back on the floor. (Also was he imagining it or did Sergei hold him up for a WHILE???) and he turns around and bows and thanks Sergei for his help, but mostly to hide the bright red blush that’s coloring his tanned skin.
(But while his head is down, he misses the blush on Sergei’s stoic face. )
And so they start to spend time together outside of cooking and then Rei feels bad bc of Max!!! Because Yuriy and Takao are off doing whatever. Boris and Kai are doing… well Rei doesn’t want to think about it.
But max is like “dude it’s fine! Ivan’s cool as fuck man. We play video games. He’s really good at them.”
[and no, there’s no max/ivan. Imo ivan is one of the few straight characters from OG Beyblade. Though it comes up once it’s gets out that something is going on with Sergei and Rei.]
And the two week visit is over in a snap. And Rei is so upset that they’re leaving. How is it possible that it’s been two weeks. And Rei feels so… weird asking Sergei for his number/WhatsApp or an email, because he doesn’t want to snail mail him. Rei 100% would if needed.
But he doesn’t. He can’t work up the nerve to ask. And before he knows it he’s in a car on the way to the airport with the other Bladebreakers. Takao and Kai furiously tapping away at their phones.
And Rei’s heart feels heavy. He wants to still be talking with Sergei but he’s not. And- he could ask Takao for Sergei’s number but he doubts he has it. And then he could ask Kai. But that whole thought has anxiety bubbling up throughout his body. Would Kai give it to him? Would he make him beg for it? Would he ask a million questions? Would he just refuse in general? They were all very private after all.
Rei takes a deep breath. Snail mail it is then. He could ask for the number in the snail mail (And If Sergei didn't want to exchange numbers he wouldn't feel embarrassed) or just send his number in the letter. That was an option. And if Sergei didn’t want to text him he could just pretend he never got the letter.
So Rei spends the flight daydreaming and planning out a letter to write as soon as he gets back. Maybe he’d go to the store and get some nice stationary too. Maybe he could find one with a whale on it.
But it turns out none of that is necessary, because when Rei goes to unpack his duffle bag, a foreign piece of paper slips out.
Sergei had snuck a note in his bag sometime before they left and then he flashes back to Sergei handing him the bag and his face goes red.
He gingerly picks up the note and unfolds it like if he moves the wrong way it’ll disintegrate.
It’s simple and written in sloppy kanji but he can make out the full ten digit number. Reis' hands shake and he’s not sure why his throat feels scratchy or why he’s crying. But he’s so happy. He programs the number in between tears and goes to text it, when he stops.
Would Sergei think it’s weird how fast he texted him? Would he realize he just got back to the house? Would he seem desperate? (And Rei shakes that thought out of his head. Friends. Friends. That’s what they were.)
And then a voice in his head , well friends text each other for less, why are you making it weird Rei?
And then he makes himself blush. For lying to himself. He had a crush on the strawberry blonde. But it’s not mutual (it is) and he just enjoyed the friendship he was able to make with Sergei while in Russia.
And he doesn’t text Sergei that day. Or the next. No, he waits a week. But not on purpose it’s just everytime he goes to text sergei he psychs himself out. Until Kai approaches him(!?!) and is weird and is like “hey, did you get Sergei’s number? Boris is bugging me to ask you if you did.”
And Rei lets out an awkward laugh and is like yeah I did why?
And Kais like “so you did get it?” Nods “but you haven’t texted him?” Head shake. Kai’s eyebrow raises, “that’s unlike you. Didn’t realize you had it in you to ignore someone.”
And Rei stutters out, “I’m not ignoring him! I just didn’t want to bother him.”
So all Kai does is chuckle and it looks like he had something he wanted to say, but stops himself, his expression transitions back to neutral and goes, “for my sanity with Boris, please just text Sergei. Before yuriy goes and gets Takao involved. Because Takao will be asking more questions than I will.”
Rei gulps, and nods his head slowly. Yeah he didn’t want to open that can of worms.
So he sits with his phone open just staring at the screen unsure what to send, and so he defaults to /hey it’s rei kon/
And then he throws his phone down because could he be any more awkward? Any more weird? Couldn’t he be normal????
And not even a minute later it dings back, and the ding has his heart racing. And it's a little embarrassing how fast he moves to retrieve his phone. And even on Sergei’s side its a little awkward, like he doesn;t know what to say. But then the overall tone changes to Sergei teasing him about not messaging him, even making jokes about having to get Boris involved (and that he hopes Kai wasn’t too grumpy).
And next thing he knows, it’s dark outside and everyone's wondering why Rei hasn't made dinner yet. And Rei, in rei fashion, is blushing because, wow they’ve been texting for six hours nonstop. He apologizes to everyone (though he does feel kind of annoyed that no one else decided to cook, when they saw he wasn’t), but then the doorbell rings and Kai answers. And someone ordered takeout. It was Kai, and he shoves a bag of food at Rei and disappears off with his.
(But now Rei feels awkward because he just told Sergei he was going to go cook and eat, but now he’s not. What a dork he is)
But slowish burn of them getting together. They text everyday, and eventually work their way up to video calls. Two months later the Borg Boys fly out to Japan to spend time with them all. (And Rei gets to listen to Yuriy bitch about what a pain in the ass travel visas are, his arms wrapped around Takao, and takao looks up with long eyelashes *eye roll* and is like yeah, but, i'm worth it right?  And Yuriy’s actions (pulling him closer) betray his words of you’re the biggest pain in the ass about coming here.)
Just more of them hanging out. Having a good time. But nothing really progresses. Its still just them hanging and chilling, talking. But Sergei is just closer, physically in everything they do. Sitting on the couch, at the table (THEY BUMP ELBOWS), walking around (FINGERS BRUSH. REI HE WANTS TO HOLD YOUR HAND!!!)
And in another snap of a finger, the Borg Boy’s weak in Japan is done, and they're all trying to figure out theyll see each other again, and if its in Russia or Japan.
After three more trips, read like 7 months, it’s the Borg Boys’ turn to travel, but this time, Ivan stays in Russia. He makes a comment about being a seventh wheel, which goes RIGHT OVER REI’s head. And Max, what’s funny, what did he mean by that? And max just continues to giggle, and rei doesn't notice the blush on Sergei’s cheeks.
AND THIS IS WHEN THEY GET TOGETHER. Sergei is the one to ask Rei out. And Rei, the dummy, at first thinks Sergei’s Japanese sounds weird. That's a weird way to phrase that. It must be a misunderstanding. But Sergei pushes and sis like I KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING. THIS ISN’T A LANGUAGE BARRIER.
(And then Rei is sad because they're LITERALLy leaving in two days, and he asks sergei why he could do this sooner, and Sergei is like I TRIED. THREE TIMES ALREADY. And then rei thinks about it and oh. OH. he is dense. BLUSH)
Once they are together they are that disgustingly happy, saccharine sweet couple. Always touching. Always tender. Holding hands, holding pinkies. Sergei with a hand on the small of Rei’s back. Rei hugging Sergei from behind. Sergei also loves carrying Rei around, because he is so small and light. Sergei is the always hot one to Rei’s always cold. If Rei is on the couch, Sergei will lift him up, take his spot and then place Rei in his lap. SIZE DIFFERENCE!!! They love playing with each other’s hair. Rei likes pushing Sergei’s back, in a similar way to how his hat thing?? (is there a name for that??) does. Sergei likes twirling Rei’s around his fingers, and as their relationship progresses he likes putting it up for his partner or braiding it.  Even brushing it bc they are that couple (AND REI PURRS)
But also the two are very passive aggressive when they're upset with the other (ITS ALWAYS OVER SOMETHING SO STUPID TOO). Sergei places everything out of Rei’s reach on high shelves, the back of the top of the fridge. He’ll hide the stools and step ladders, because Rei will not stand on a chair. It's a sign of defeat if he stands on a chair to reach things. Idk its a pride thing. Rei will over season food/make things spicier than normal. (Sergei can’t handle spice like Rei can.) Sergei will however, eat it like there’s nothing wrong, but the sweat beading down his face gives it away. And it's just stupid little petty things like this.
Other’s reactions:
Takao and Kai are like whatever, because they can't really be ones to talk about partners. But good for them I guess. Kai thinks they're gross though, but their relationship type is not his cup of tea. Why are they always touching and smiling at each other like that? Yuck.
And sometimes the relationship Rei and Sergei has makes Takao jealous. Yura, why won't you hold my hand like that? Kiss me in public like they do. And Yuriy is like??? That’s not me. You want a relationship like that, go be with them.
MAX THINKS THEY’RE THE CUTEST. AND HE'S SO HAPPY FOR THEM TO HAVE EACH OTHER.
Borg Boys are happy for them. Really no opinion. But now they have the dad friend AND the mom friend. Though one will say its weird that the two teams are basically dating each other. And an Max/Ivan joke will come up, but they're both quick to shoot that down. Ivan has a girlfriend (SINCE WHEN? - everyone), and max giggles and is like yeah, i’m dating too (WITH WHO? - Rei)
The white tigers are initially against him dating someone from Neoborg and it hurts Rei, because Serge makes him happy. And so Mao and him have a long talk and Rei’s like Mao its been YEARS, are you going to hold what they did years ago against them? And so they all give Sergei a chance and the two fly out to China. And that’s how Mao falls in love with Sergei. (she apologizes for jumping the gun and assuming the worst. Even Rai’s like, he’s not a bad guy [none of them are bad guys- rei] and come to think of it Rai has never really interacted with any of them outside of tournaments. But at the end of their visit Sergei gets a White Tiger Seal of Approval™️

another sergei/rei headcanon but more sergei pov
Sergei is apprehensive about hosting the Bladebreakers for two weeks. Just that it’s a lot. Having four more people in the house, regardless that the house is huge and Kai is footing the expenses of food.
Four more mouths to feed, four more sets of dishes to run. Possibly fighting over the washing machine.
Sergei just felt on edge. He wasn’t used to hosting people. They’ve never opened up the house like this. Usually it was Kai just fucking off to Russia to visit and he’d ghost them most of the trip anyway, dealing with whatever bullshit Hiwatari Enterprises needed him there for.
But now with all these inter team relationships, they’re always someone here.
All because Yuriy and Boris just couldn't date each other. No they had to each date someone from the Bladebreakers. Not that he minds. Kai is Kai. And when he visits he’s a ghost, or he’s a ghost with Boris. And Takao is… different. A breath of fresh air in the house. He makes Yuriy so happy. And that is so important to Sergei. His brothers’ happiness.
-
The first meal stresses Sergei out. He’s concerned he hasn’t made enough food, especially with Takao’s appetite. He doesn’t want to seem like a bad host so soon in the stay.
And then looking at all the dishes stacked high in a tower in the sink. Sergei feels exhausted and this is just day one. MEAL ONE. He lets out a sigh at the sight.
But then there’s a clearing of a throat behind him, and it’s the Chinese member from the bladebreakers. And he’s offering to help with the dishes. And Sergei breathes a sigh of relief.
And then at lunch he’s by Sergei’s side again offering to help cook, and he lets him. And it's quiet, Sergei is a man of few words when he meets someone new. And before today, he has never spoken a word to Kai’s Chinese teammate. Sergei is so pleasantly surprised by how Rei manages and handles himself in the kitchen, and how he's always offering to do exactly what Sergei was just about to do. Want me to cut that up? Wash the produce? I'll put the water on to boil.
How is it Kai is a fucking disaster in the kitchen, but his teammate cooks like its his job? And then they talk a little bit and find out that, oh, yeah he used to work in a kitchen in Paris, with his uncle. Sergei thinks it's so cool that Rei has been around the world and has traveled. And they just hit it off.
Sergei can’t think of anyone else he has just had great conversation with just so naturally other than his found family. He struggles around Takao (how Yuriy puts up with him, he has no idea, but he has the red head wrapped around his finger.), and even Kai sometimes as well (Though he’ll put the blame on Kai for that, but since he and Boris have… gotten together? [are they official? Better ask Ivan] Kai is a little easier to speak to)
Rei does enough talking for the two of them. He fills in conversation here and there. And it's so nice. Nice to hear his accented English, and accented Japanese, and how he slips into Chinese sometimes when he’s deep in thought.
-
Crush starts or atleast what Sergei thinks is a crush. He’s never felt like this before at all. It’s different than what he feel for his brothers, and different than what he feels for everyone else. It’s stronger more intense. It’s like he’s addicted to Rei.
So if it’s a crush, which, now that he’s really thinking it all over. It definitely is.
Sergei has always been direct. No nonsense. He figures it’s from his days back in the abbey.
He figures Kai is the best to ask about Rei. Takao would ask too many questions and probably blab about it. And the blonde was… weirdly close to Rei.
“I Don't think he is seeing anyone right now. Him and Mao aren’t together at the movement.” Kai shrugs
Sergei presses a little. He’s not going to make things super awkward if he starts hitting on Rei. Is he interested in men?
“He’s bi or, what was it he said? It’s something else. But he likes men. We used to hook up years ago.”
And Sergei is a little weird over that, but also it's confirmed he likes men so, game.
And then Kai will chuckle and is like “is Ivan the only straight guy on this trip??” And then he chuckles again. And mumbles under his breathe, “must have been something in the abbey’s drinking water.”
(But also he sees Max and Rei cuddling on the couch and his heart sinks until Kai pulls him to the side and is like, if you like Rei go for it, those two are always like that. More so because Yuriy is here for Takao and would kill max if he did that to Takao) [and Sergei never expected Kai of ALL fucking people to play matchmaker, but here he is.)
-
And okay… maybe Sergei likes being able to help Rei. And maybe he’s been purposefully putting things on the top shelf. But Rei is stubborn, Sergei finds out. He’d rather struggle and climb on countertops when he thinks Sergei isn't looking. So. Now Sergei is placing things on the top shelf and more towards the back, to where only he and Boris would be able to reach it without difficulty. Even Yuriy would have some trouble grabbing it.
And finally. Sergei gets the chance to do what he’s been waiting to do. Rei is struggling, teetering back and forth on his tip toes trying to reach a bowl that's just out of reach. Sergei sweeps in and lifts Rei up. Sweeps him right off his feet. He’s at least a solid foot off the ground and is able to easily grab the bowl that’s on the top shelf.
Okay. So maybe time freezes, or he freezes but he’s definitely holding Rei up way longer than he should be. He gently places Rei down onto his feet. It all happens so fast, but Rei turns around and bows (FUCKING BOWS!!!), thanking him for the help.
Sergei stares at him with wide eyes, blush coloring his cheeks. Because he just did that. He actually just lifted Rei up, like he’s been day dreaming about all fucking week.
But Rei acts embarrassed afterwards. His face red hot. So Sergei decides not to do that ever again.
-
They start spending time outside of cooking and meal time. And Sergei realizes they have mor things in common than maybe he initially thought. The uncle Rei had mentioned wasnt technically his uncle, just felt close enough to call him one. So he was like Sergei, and the rest of the house, he didn’t have a blood family either. He just had his found family in Japan and back in China.
Sergei feels bad for Ivan, because its like everyone has grouped off, and left Ivan to figure out what to do. But Ivan is quick to put Sergei at ease, so that he doesn't feel neglected. Max and him have been hanging out while everyone else is being gross and sucking face. (And Sergei goes red, because VANYA! I haven’t kissed him. I would never! *Ivan raises an eyebrow* Okay, I would, if he was okay with it, but I haven’t) And now that Sergei has regained composure, its his turn to raise an eyebrow at Ivan, “So Max, huh?” And Ivan rolls his eyes, and is like unlike all you homos, I am straight. We just play video games and talk about how lame all of you are.
And for the next two weeks, Sergei tries to show Rei as much as he can without saying outright that he has feelings for Rei. And while Sergei is disappointed, he knows this isn't the last time he will see Rei. There was talk in the house about filling out visa applications for them to go to Japan. So Sergei, in his best Japanese he can write, pens a little note, as well as his number., and stows it away in Rei’s duffle bag when he leaves.
-
And Sergei isn't expecting a text too quickly. It’s a long flight, jet lag, etc, who knew when he was going to go through his stuff? Forty Eight hours max, right? Wrong. It’s almost a week since Rei left and not one text. And now Sergei is low key upset, so he brings it up to Boris.
Asking Boris, if he thought Rei would be the type to ignore him. And Boris listens to Sergei complain about how he thought the two really connected, and at least had become friends, but while he is talking to Boris, Boris rips out his phone and starts texting. And Sergei's heart hurts, because he can tell Boris is talking to Kai. and he feels so alone, even though he knows all he needs is his family.
And then Boris scowls down at his phone, and brings it up to his ear, “Find out from your chinese teammate why he’s ignoring Seryozha. Do this for me, Kai. Before our soft hearted friend here says this before the wrong person and gets Takao involved.” Sergei doesn't need to hear what he knows is an exasperated sigh on the other end of the line.
And an hour later his phone dings. And then the next thing he knows is it's been six hours. And Rei has to go cook now, but Sergei’s heart feels so full. He cant believe how attached he’d grown towards Rei in the two weeks they cooked together.
It takes them stupidly long to get together. Over seven months, and everytime the teams part, Boris and Ivan tease Sergei. But its not for lack of trying! Sergei is trying to show his affection to Rei, but maybe he is just dense? And he’ll have to take the Yuriy approach and just kiss him, but the thought leaves him feeling a little sick. He wants Rei to consent to a kiss, before he forces his lips on Rei.
And then Ivan doesn't travel with them. And when he’s on facetime with everyone, Says loud enough that everyone in the room can hear him say hes tired of being the seventh wheel, and that hes sorry for leaving Max to deal with all the couples. And Wow, Is he red. And if there wasn't a 7,000+km distance he’d give him a disappointed look that would make Ivan die inside.
So Sergei figures, this time he’ll ask Rei out. And he does. Twice. But Rei is proving that its him who is the densest on the team and not Takao. (and now he is questioning the man he developed feelings for)
And third times the charm! Even though, it takes Sergei being assertive, that yes, he knows what he is saying in japanese, and YES, he wants to date Rei. NO, he doenst mean anything else. He likes Rei, He wants to be Rei’s boyfriend. This isnt some language barrier, maybe if it was anyone else, but he has the best japanese out of all of them, he knows what hes saying and asking.
And then Rei says yes. And Sergei’s heart feels full to bursting.
—-
Couple Headcanons:
Rei tries introducing Sergei to spicy food, and after Sergei turns violent red and is basically crying from his entire body, decides that maybe they need to start at an even lower spice level.
They continue to cook together. It’s their thing. Trying new recipes. Seasonal ingredients.
When they visit China, Rei plies Sergei with snacks, because you can't get them in Russia, and he wants Sergei to experience all his favorite foods from his home country.
Food is their love language. Well one of them.
Neither are big on baking, though the other borg boys wish either of them were.
Before Rei, Sergei was kind of the father of the house. And the others would joke that Yuriy was like the house mother, BUT now that role is filled by Rei. (And with the way Rei acts and treats them, they realize Yuriy was never the house mother.)
Sergei realizes really quickly the amount of self confidence and self worth that Rei LACKS. So he likes to remind Rei at all times that he’s loved. That Sergei thinks he's perfect, that he’s a great blader, a great person, a great boyfriend. He makes such a big deal out of Rei, and everything he does. (Isn’t dinner great, Borya? Rei made it all by himself. He’s such a great cook. I'm so lucky to call him mine!”)
Rei sees right through what Sergei is doing, and while he does appreciate it, it makes him cry sometimes. It’s so overwhelming, having someone love him so unconditionally. (Not bashing Mao, but I think her love for him was conditional on him staying in White Tiger Hills. Sergei doenst expect him to stay, but Rei feels so at home in Russia, that he does. [idc idc idc about the legalities of this. This world is controlled by spinning tops])
Rei learns Russian just for the sake of making living easier. But the way Sergei’s green eyes get all soft when he haltingly tries speaking Russian, makes Rei all that more determined to master the language. Because Hey! He was good at picking up languages. Hes got this.
Sergei offers to learn Chinese, but Rei tells him its unnecessary unless he learns the local dialect of WTH, but then its pointless outside of the village.
Sergei calling Rei his lil piroshki. That’s the pet name. Or Tiger, Kitty Cat.
Rei steals all of Sergei’s sweaters, he has trouble handling the cold, after all WTH is kind of warm and tropical somehow. The sweaters are so long and they fall midway down his thighs. And Rei feels so cozy and safe in Sergei’s sweaters. AND THEY SMELL LIKE HIM!
Rei loves being the big spoon, and Sergei loves being the little spoon, even if it can feel ridiculous.
Also just a quick lil sex headcanon, but sergei is well endowed, like obviously hes almost 7 feet tall it makes sense. And rei struggles at first, because its his first time with a guy like this. He’s kissed guys and cuddled and done over the clothes things, but nothing like this. With his mouth. With his body. So he does struggle to take all of Sergei, but sergei is so calm and patient, kissing Rei all over to distract (And after theyre done and post bliss, Sergei figures that he needs to do some research to make this more enjoyable to Rei, even though Rei assures him he had a great time.) Rei is determined to get better at this, because his blood was racing everytime he slid further down and Sergei would say how good he was. And what a good job he was doing. (Also Rei admiring the bruises on his hips the next day from Sergei holding him up when Rei’s legs got all shaky.)
Rei realizes that Sergei hasn't told him everything about his past. But he makes sure he is there. He realizes that every other week Sergei goes to therapy for an hour, and sometimes when he comes back all he wants is silence, and Rei. And Rei is there petting his hair, holding his man for as long as it takes for Sergei to talk. Sometimes its nonsense, sometimes its about his past.
Others’ reactions:
The Borg Boys and Kai give him so much shit over Sergei and Rei’s relationship, but never in front of Rei. Theyre so happy for their Seryozha, but can yall stop being so chummy? Yikes.
The Borg boys make sure to make Rei feel at home as possible in Russia. And they try their hardest with language barriers. Because most time Rei’s Russian is lagging. And sometimes their Japanese is useless, but English fits better. Or they use the internet to translate, but that's a last effort, he'd rather spend 15 minutes dealing with each other than that.
Ivan accidentally calls Rei mom once, as a joke, because it was a team joke that Sergei was dad, and now that he;s dating Rei, that makes him mom. And Sergei is mortified, but Rei is ecstatic! And feels so happy and loved by them.
Kai and Takao are happy for Rei, but they feel like they have no room to talk as they are dating more problematic members of Borg. But Max! Maxie! Is so happy for Rei, but the next time he sees Sergei, he threatens him, that if Sergei ever hurts Rei, the team will find a way to eliminate him.
Sergei’s biggest panic are Rei’s Chinese teammates. Specifically the ex girlfriend, Mao. The whole team seemed so disappointed when he told them just who he was dating. And Sergei hates seeing the hurt looks on Rei’s face and the quiet tears rolling down tan cheeks, that he kisses away.
So when they give him a chance, Sergei makes sure to give a good impression and apologize for what happened almost five years ago. But its not necessary, because once they see the two, the white tigers are so happy for Rei. Sergie treats him like Royalty, and Rei looks at Sergei like he hangs stars in the sky.
again im like the only person whos crazy enough to even ship these two, but i do.
