@shadefalls:
knowing that you changed the trajectory of my life by reccing “a complete kingdom”, dyou have any horror recs out there to give?
Oh boy!!! Yeah, kodomobits’ “a complete kingdom” will absolutely do that to you. I’m thrilled to hear it hit in a big way.
I don’t know if any of these will do the same.
I fear I’m kind of ruining the horror of “paradise by the dashboard light.” by oaseas by listing it as horror. Paradise is best read when you are looking for something sweet and romantic — a nice little AU of a show with some violent horror elements. So read it then and let your desire for a nice little AU cloud your mind even as the violent horror elements creep in. This is just a nice little mechanic AU! Don’t worry about the noises coming from the woods.
Weird bonus: This has a lovely, lovely romance aspect to it. Similar to “a complete kingdom” where I think romance adds to and enhances how fucking scared you will be when it gets scary. This fic doesn’t have MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH like “a complete kingdom” so it has that, but uhhhh even though this has a “happy” ending I gotta say... Stress.
Also, a fic that terrorized me so badly I will not read it again is “the lathe” by palmviolet. Love a timeloop, but ooooh boy. Sometimes I’ll just think about some of the loops in this fic and I feel queasy.
There’s also two AUs that aren’t really horror but they deal with death so much that they really scrambled my brains, but that’s a different sort of rec. I think that paradise is meant to be a suspenseful horrifying mystery and I think the lathe is meant to be existential terrorism, so I think they’ll count even though honestly there is not as much horror fic (or what I would consider horror lol) in Stranger Things fic.

I'd actually forgotten about this WIP until I searched the word "heart" and scrolled until I saw something I didn't immediately recognize, and now I'm slamming my hands against my computer like dammit past!me, where is the rest?!!
This is from a ficlet called Molecules, in which Dean happens upon a sensory transfer spell allows the subject to experience someone else's senses for a brief time. It doesn't quite work as planned, but nobody is complaining :D
“Alright, so...” Dean ushers him into the kitchen, flicking on the overhead lights before he gestures toward the table. “Take a seat. I won't be long.”
"You're really not going to tell me what it is?"
"I did tell you," Dean grins, and shoots him a deeply irritating wink before ducking back out of the room and calling back. "It's a surprise! No peeking!"
Frowning, Cas sits at the table. Dusts off the grains of salt that have been spilled there and wonders what on earth Dean could possibly be planning. If it's a practical joke of some kind, like the constantly escalating prank wars he's seen the brothers get into several times over the years he's known them.
Of course, it's also possible that it's a gift like the tape he still carries with him. Though that hadn't been labelled as one until many months after he'd received it. It had been shoved into his hands as he was on his way out of the bunker with a gruff, "For the road," and a complete lack of eye-contact.
He’s been waiting a couple of minutes, trying and failing to guess at what Dean is up to, when he feels a wave of benevolent magic shimmer across his skin and sink into him. It tingles and hums for a moment, a heady, pleasant quiver, before fading to leave something else behind.
An echo of a feeling. Nervous excitement. Anticipation. Hope.
All are abruptly overshadowed by a surge of contentment and chest-aching love so overwhelmingly strong that he can’t help but suck in a startled breath and grip the edge of the table. When he looks up, he finds Dean in the doorway.
Concern, then. A rush of it, shading the edges of that love but not overpowering it.
“Cas? Are you okay?”
“I feel... I feel strange,” he admits, and looks more closely at Dean.
A barely visible thread of light is running from the center of his chest, and Cas follows it with his eyes until he sees it disappearing into his own.
"Dean, what did you do?"
"You kept mentioning how much you missed being able to taste food and stuff, and I... Well, I found this spell."
Reaching out, Dean touches the gray brick wall to his side, and Cas feels the rough surface scrape against his own fingertips.
“I had some help modifying it to exclude vision and sound, 'cause I figured that would get confusing fast. But my sense of taste, touch, and smell? All yours for the next couple of hours.”
“Taste, touch, and smell?” Castiel echoes, and Dean grins at him. Castiel feels the love again, heart-thumping hard, but this time it’s his own. “Are you certain it worked?”
“Why, you seeing double? Hearing echoes?”
Concern washes over him again, and he shakes his head.
“No,” he says carefully.
Dean beams.
“Awesome,” he says.
Castiel smiles back, and he feels another surge of love. Love. Love. Happiness so strong he thinks he might cry if he thinks about it too hard.
“So,” Dean goes on after a moment, stepping down into the kitchen and heading toward the fridge. “What do you want to try first? I can't promise five stars, but I'm a pretty decent cook these days.”
“Could we... do you think we could go out somewhere for coffee?”
"Really?" Dean asks, and clicks his tongue. In his chest, his heart flutters. Castiel feels it. He feels it. "That's it?"
Castiel glances down at Dean's mouth before meeting his eyes again.
"Yes," he says with a smile that comes more easily than any that have come before. "For now."

7, 31, 38 for the fic meme~
7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
It wasn’t like Qrow had ever been great about drawing a line between his personal life and all the Inner Circle stuff—it wasn’t exactly easy, which was why the closest thing Glynda had to a love life was that awkward masochism tango she had going on with General Stick-Up-His-Ass who was an actual continent away most of the time, Raven had fucked right off back to their tribe first chance she’d gotten once she realized how deep the rabbit hole went, and they hadn’t even bothered trying to bring someone as aggressively dedicated to the domestic life as Taiyang into it in the first place. Summer was the only one who’d found a way to balance it properly.
And look at all the good it’d done her.
Still, there was a difference between screwing over your chances at normal life and family for their super secret society (and Qrow hadn’t even managed to do that right) and just plain screwing your wise, all-knowing, ambiguously-immortal boss on the side, because when Qrow Branwen made bad decisions, he damn well made the worst ones possible.
There’s uh, nothing particularly deep behind this pick; Bear With Me Till Midnight was my first published ozqrow fic and I remember really enjoying getting into Qrow’s head in the narrative. And this bit had a fun mix of sass, deprecation, and irreverence.
31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
My instinct is always to skew towards canon almost to the point of neurosis (definitely to the point of mild anxiety over new canon content at times--don’t be me, kids), but as a very slow writer with very long ideas, I’ve tried to move away from that at least a little. Precedence plays a role, at least for me; if I’ve gotten what in my mind counts as “enough” out before canon contradicts it, then that’s enough to keep going on. But there have been a few things I have shelved for straying too far before I was able to finish them.
38. Talk about a review that made your day.
I mean. they pretty much all do XD But actually this specific day was made by @tigerstripedmoon, who wrote a very sweet review that I was able to wake up to this morning. So that did literally make my day today, thank you Tiger!

How do you structure your plots (if if they just sort of happen, how do they end up being structured)?
I'm a pantser at heart. For the past year or so, I've been trying out different structure approaches.
For Big Lie, Small World, since I was trying to make it primarily romance with the case secondary, the opposite of my usual, I tried following the beat sheet from Romancing the Beat. That seemed to work pretty well
For Whatever It Takes, my ofic WiP, I outlined it using the beat sheet from Save the Cat Writes a Novel. That worked less well, but I'm undecided whether that's because I'm so unused to writing ofic or because I need to get back to my pantsing roots.
I think in general I end up following a pretty basic 3-act plot structure, if for no other reason than that is what I'm used to reading and watching.

Valentine's Day couples (and throuple), featuring some of my favourite relationships in my stories.
Cloudheart and Nightsky, two absolute soft mom's, who stick together regardless of Nightsky's gender identity.
Stonetail and Mothcloud, who love each other even though they come from different clans.
Darkstealth and Shadefall, who are so different, whose relationship has had to face so many hardships, yet they still love each other since they can remember.
And Vulturestar, Thundercloud and Sparrowcreek, three cats caring deeply for one another, not any less valid than other relationships.

Shadefall - 71 moons - She-cat - Rippleclan
-Aunt to Fuzzypaw and Petalpaw
-Sister to Sorreljaw and their deceased sister, Dawnfeather, the three of them were born during a rocky time for the clan. There was a long drawn-out rivalry with Thornclan, that didn’t halt until Shadefall was far into being a warrior.
-Shadefall has always been a bit of a dramatic and violent cat, but fiercely loyal to her clan. She thrived during the conflict with Thornclan because it brought her skills to the forefront. Often, the senior warrior feels as though her skills are unappreciated these days.
-She once had a litter of kittens, which she tragically lost soon after giving birth to them due to a very severe blackcough that crippled the clan.
-Ever since Dawnfeather died a few moons ago Shadefall has been careful to watch over her kittens, even if the two of them don’t appreciate the doting.

🐈 for all of them
🐈: What do they look like? Gonna use the descriptions from the RP.
Cinderflare: A dark blue-silver tabby tom with blue eyes. His left eye is clouded and scarred, nearby a slight dent in his head from the injury that blinded that eye. The ear on that side is a bit torn up, as well.
Shadefall: Similar to Cinder although closer to black in color with warmer undertones. He has amber eyes like his sister, Amber.
Ambershine: A ginger she-cat with fluffy, ticked fur and a cream underbelly. She has bright amber eyes.
Crowstar: A lanky brown/gray-black tomcat of the oriental shorthair breed. He’s got grayish amber eyes.
Waspstrike: A brown tabby with long legs and highly visible stripes. He’s got amber eyes!
Wildheart: A calico tabby with scruffy fur and a delicate build. Bright green eyes!
Briarfang: An old Oriental shorthair cat with little nicks and scratches here and there, as well as some missing teeth (mainly just his upper canines). He’s got white fur and blue eyes, as well as a smudged Rune Mark. Crowstar’s brother who he thinks is dead.

Curious to know what happens to Dovewing in your rewrite, since there are many different opinions on Dovewing and how her story should've been written, I'd like to know your take on her
<3
well you'll all be happy to know "the three" aren't a thing in my rewrite it's completely scrapped
dovewing has it a lot easier on her, she becomes hollyleaf's apprentice
however because of an accident having to do with dovepaw, briarpaw falls into the camp while saving dovepaw from falling in herself during her (briarpaw's) warrior assessment, dovepaw feels incredibly guilty about it because she shouldn't have even been there in the first place but she wanted to watch her friend's assessment
she ends up sticking by briarlight a lot and helping her in every way she can to strengthen her front legs and help her get around and stay healthy and they both end up falling in love and eventually dovewing has their kits (i don't know how much i'm renaming dovewing's kits... lightleap being named after briarlight sounds really cute so i might keep that one, shadowsight might be turned into like shadefall idk)
