Idk TV show adaptations like the new percy jackson show or shadow and bone are in the same category as really good fanfiction to me, not because of quality reasons (ok quality matters but perfection isnt the point) but because theres something about them where it very much feels like the source materials essence so i can enjoy it for fan reasons, but at the same time, i don't feel any need to integrate it into my existing concept for the source material. Idk if this makes sense, but it's kind of like when you watch a good show or read good book, and you think "i want to watch/read more of this" but you dont want to REwatch/read it, but you want more. Its like, yes this is more of what i want without being the thing i want more of, yknow.

“the show ruined the darkling the show ruined darklina” oh you mean the show considered the nuance of without overly romanticizing a centuries-old power-hungry ABUSER who has committed genocide and taken advantage of countless women and it explored the ways in which “darklina” as a ship dynamic is really about him manipulating a lonely vulnerable girl and using his trauma to victimize himself as an excuse to lash out and fulfill his blatant power grabs and excessive violence against innocent people, and it emphasized how being lonely and having complexity doesn’t justify war crimes and instead focused on empowering the victims of kirigan’s abuse and didn’t pretend like darklina was for a moment a healthy valid romantic choice for alina because it wasn’t it was a relationship predicated on gaslighting manipulation and literal enslavement based on the traumatic experiences of the author herself and it should not be romanticized in any way shape or form? HAHA WELL GO CRY ABOUT IT IM HAVING A BLAST

Me looking at the grumpy, “I hate everyone in the world except for you” character, the “asshole turned lovable himbo” character, the “hot dad who genuinely loves and cares for his kid” character, and the villain/character with VERY questionable morals:

It genuinely frustrates me when people ship character’s with their abuser.

Particularly when the character’s entire storyline is about escaping an abusive relationship.

Particularly when the abusive relationship was founded on grooming.

Particular when the ship only exists because the reader thinks the abuser is hot, and is using the protagonist as a self-insert.

I don’t attack people over what they ship, I never have and I never will, you can ship those kind of fictional ships if you want, no, seriously, go ahead, I won’t stop or judge you, but I am asking you to be aware. Be aware that they’re unhealthy. Be aware that the ship you like was never going to be “endgame” by the author. Be aware that you have no right to bully or belittle anyone who doesn’t ship what you ship, particularly if it’s abusive. Just be aware. That’s all.
