* it's no secret that sam is very forgetful, however i think this helped him become friends with penny. penny is very organized and has every important date (ie birthdays) memorized. --- she NEVER forgets a birthday. --- one day, penny heard sam repeating a phrase to himself so he wouldn't forget what he needed to do. penny encouraged him to write it down and even showed him how to write on a rubber band. sam adopted this and everytime he sees penny he'll smile widely and hold up his wrist (which will have anywhere from 6-10 rubber bands at the time. poor boy).

Boot camp:

"Honestly, I tried to escape. If Jimmy Madio (Frank Perconte, who was on guard duty) didn't stop me, I would have been out of there."

Jimmy Madio caught him "blubbing" (crying) by day 5.

He carried Dextor Fletcher (Johnny Martin) around one of the runs.

Neal McDonough (Buck Compton) was fasted. "Lived up the front" on runs.

He was forced to do push ups when he spoke in his British accent. When asked to do his Harry Welsh impression "LUZ" first word that comes to his head.

Got his platoon lost on their first night attack: solution: they all lay down and fell asleep till it started raining.

"I'm losing my mind. Where are we?" Conversation with Ross McCall (liebgott) day 8.

Was so in character that his long term girlfriend broke up with him after boot camp. "She found me after boot camp on my fists in the kitchen doing push ups at 3am" "I think at that stage she thought you know what this is out of control"

Honestly the effects of Dale Dye's boot camp need to be studied.

Richard Speight (Skip) , Rick Gomez (Luz), and Jimmy madio were the "class clowns."

Matthew Settle (Speirs) played music from the 40's in the barracks to get them all in character.

Neal McDonough took a gun to the head. Shane Taylor (Eugene Roe) attempted to stitch him up before declaring, "I'm not a doctor."

Close friends on set:

Knew Damian Lewis prior to bob. Specified that he didn't meet him in a Bangkok whore house.

Shared a girlfriend with Damian Lewis. "Not at the same time." (Honestly was questioning at this point how close these two were.)

Closest with: Neil McDonough, Rick Gomez, Jimmy Madio, Richard Speight, Scott Grimes (Malarkey), and Michael Cudlitz (Bull).

Filming:

Marched his platoon down to the set every morning.

He was apparently criticised for his portrayal of Harry's injury in bastogne. He justified "screaming his head off" instead of playing it stoic due to the fact he though Harry would be thinking about Kitty. (Personally I think he did a great job)

Shane Taylor covered his body on the jeep journey to the aid station even though it wasn't in the script.

Stardew Bachelor and Bachelorette scents

Abigail- Hair dye, hints of leather, and perfume that smells suspiciously like grape soda. Not overwhelming though. Definitely went through her mom's perfumes and sniffed them all but decided to go ahead and get her own

Leah- the smell of unfinished wood has saturated Leah's skin, hair, and clothes. Her favorite scent is a clove, amber, and vanilla blend in an oil roll on bottle.

Emily- Straight Nag Champa Incense that Sandy sends her in the mail. Haley teases her about smelling like a hippie but Emily loves the scent so much

Haley- has all the info on Bath and Body Works and Pink. She uses a coconut scent sunscreen, makeup, and a sweet citrus perfume. Always has her deodorant, perfume, and matching lotion in her purse.

Penny- Penny is very self conscious about herself including her every day scent. The smell of the library has begun to cling to her hair and clothes combined with her favorite fig and brown sugar lotion

Maru- maru takes hygiene seriously, working in a lab and clinic after all. She uses a light clean scented deodorant and one of those "clean cotton" scented sprays. Maru always smells of fresh clean laundry. She likes the way it smells and likes it better than regular perfume

Shane- Shane used to smell like sweat and alcohol most of the time but after he decided to drink less and try to be a better guardian for Jas, he now smells like Joja Mart body spray, his 3-in-1 body wash, and barn yard. After a long shift, Shane will smell like Joja Mart

Sebastian- Seb's usual scent is that of old weed on his hoodie, some cigarette, and a nice cologne that Robin and Demetrius actually gave him as a gift one year. It has a warm, deep smoky scent with hint of black cherry

Sam- Sam smells like straight mens body spray from Joja Mart but somehow it works really well for him. Mixed in with that, the smell of pizza and hot pockets are all over his hoodie. Along with that is the faint scent of his hair gel

Elliot- Smells like Green Apple shampoo and conditioner. Elliot wears an incense and wine scented perfume oil, the same brand as Leah's. It's a dark sweet scent

Harvey- Harvey smells antiseptic from the clinic until he showers. Then he usually smells like coffee and clean laundry. He also has a special oil he puts on his mustache that smells light and clean.

Alex- Has a complete old Spice Line. Inspired by his grandpa, Alex loves Old Spice and all the different scents too. It makes him feel ready to accomplish his goals for the day!

Eugene covering Harry with his body as they ride into Bastogne simply because Shane Taylor was so invested in the scene and did it on instinct. Maybe Dale Dye deserves some credit for the insanity he put them through because we would not have gotten that otherwise

During the bootcamp, Neal Mcdonough (Compton) was injured on the mouth and it was kinda smashed up.

Neal was so brainwashed at that time that he thought he had to act tough because Compton was a tough guy. So he called Shane Taylor(Roe) to stitch him up in front of everybody. Shane was like “I’m an actor not a doctor”.

He stitched Neal up but after a few days it got infected. Capt Dye had to send Neal to the hospital and he was worried this could shut the show down if Neal reported this. At the time there were actors got injured and complained.

Neal went to the hospital in the mid of the night in his bloody ww2 uniform and told he was Lynn Compton and gave his service number to the receptionist, who was like what??

Neal went back and told Dye he put down Compton’s name and Dye was grinning so wild.

“Do you feel weird?” Jen says, the car window rolled down at the wind whipping her new hair back from her forehead to reveal the smear of dye along her hairline. 

“No, it’s just another normal summer,” I reply. The road to Wexford stretches out ahead of us and the sky looks big, vast, flat, like porcelain.

“Without your family.”

“Yeah, it’s a relief. Can you imagine Chris and Colette in close quarters like that? Howling at each other all summer? I think I’d drown myself in the sea.”

“Well, I think you’re a fool to let the Shane and Joe stay.”

I pull a face, “Why?” 

“Because they’ll ruin the place. They won’t clean up after themselves.”

“Neither will I,” I grin at her as she scrunches her face up in disgust, and I mess up her hair, subtly checking my hand in case any of it came off on me, “You chose this, Jenny, a summer with the boys. It's days of playing PlayStation and leaving our dirty dishes in the sink.”

“Wouldn’t you have rather we'd gone to Italy or something?”

“What? No. I love the beach house. It’s going to be fun.”

She eyes me sceptically, and I know that she can tell that I’m putting on this positive attitude to disguise the weird, empty feelings left since the breakup. That version of me, the sad, longing, regretful one, though, is not for Jen, it's for me alone, in the lonely hours when night spills into morning, and my thumb hesitates on Michelle’s number.

I’m always on the brink of calling her and taking it all back, because I miss her, and being with her again is a guaranteed way to make this rotten heartbreak disappear, or even just to postpone it until the last moment, until I really have to leave. 

It’s never felt like this before. I never walked away from a relationship with this cocktail of tumultuous emotion swirling around in me, like anger, sadness, grief, longing, yearning for her and the way it felt to touch her, while at the same time practically shuddering with relief that it’s over. When I think about the bad things, the shouting and ranting and the throwing and the silent treatment, it’s easier for me. Easier than remembering the good things, like right now as I grip the steering wheel and visualise that series of moles on her hip that looks like a constellation of stars. I relive the moment I kissed them one by one, the way that she laughed as squirmed as my lips tickled her skin and I threw my arms around her to hold her captive.

I refocus. Jen is saying something. 

“Kelly?” I repeat, plucking one of her words out of the air, “um, sorry, what did you say again?” 

“Yeah, about Kelly and her friends,” she says, “I said Shane is driving them down tomorrow.”

“Oh, surely they’re not staying with us too, are they?” there’s only so many rooms at the beach house… 

She snorts, “No, they’ll be in the Healy’s mobile. Their parents are letting them use it.”

I pause, “I didn’t know Kelly had friends.”

Jen slaps my leg and I flinch away, cackling. 

“You have to promise me that you’ll be nice this summer,” she warns, still holding up her hand like she’s ready to smack me again, “you have to promise that your days of bullying Kelly are in the past.”

I gasp in mock outrage, “she bullies me!” 

“She clearly has issues. You have to stop provoking her. And Liam too!”

“I do not provoke Liam.”

“No, but you’re… generally not nice to him.”

“Not true.”

“You are! You and the boys, you become this nasty little mob when you’re all together, and you’re not as funny as you think you are.”

“I’ll be perfectly nice to everyone this summer,” I insist. “I won’t put a foot out of line.”

“I don’t believe you,” she says, but I can tell she’s done talking about it. 

She slumps back in her chair and turns the radio on. Again, it’s Jason Derulo. 

“You know this song is growing on me?” She says, and I just groan.

i’ve never shared this story time with anyone except my friends and i thought sharing it with BoB fans could be fun (because it was such an amazing experience!!)

GOING TO A BAND OF BROTHERS CONVENTION

i attended the commemorations in normandy back in 2019 bc i’m from france and i REALLY wanted to drag my parents there to show how amazing the whole experience was (and it was the 75th anniversary so yay). and then i discovered that they were doing a BoB convention with some of the actors (shane taylor, robin laing etc.) and as i was exactly in my BoB era, i figured it would be cool to attend. in my 17y-old glory, i went there with no one to help me go through all the tables and signing and talking (reminder i’m french and when anxious, my english is 10 times worse). fortunately, my mother asked a group of lovely girls to accompany me, and they even gifted me a bastogne card for the actors to sign !! (i had a poor piece of paper pls..) they were super fun and thankfully one of them was american, so it was easier to strike up a convo or joke around with the guys.

i’ll tell you their characters’ names but i remember seeing grant, shifty, popeye, penkala, dike, dale dye.. seeing how the guys were so close even in reality, how friendly the whole atmosphere was, seeing how connected to each other they are because they know this tv show will go on through the generations and is still important today is so special, truly.

but then i came around chris langlois, rick (welsh), robin (babe) and shane’s table and omg i could’ve fainted, i WOULD HAVE. doc roe is my fav character (it’s never the same in reality but i got really attached to him, even after rewatching so </3) and meeting the grandson of the real roe was mindblowing.

but here comes the funniest part : it was the american girl’s birthday, rick and robin did not understand that and thought it was MY birthday, so when they signed my stuff they asked how old i was yadayada. and then we took a picture, robin even filmed a video on my phone (that i still have. and my wallpaper is actually him showing rick and shane in the background) for my friend who was as much of a fan as i was back then !! that was so cool of him !! then they finally understood it wasn’t my birthday when we told them and they were making fun of themselves, saying i should hide the card before my actual birthday. coolest interaction ever and they were so chill, i could actually talk a little bit since i was less nervous w/ them !! LOVE THEM !!

after going through these mountains of emotions, we ate at a restaurant just beside the convention place and i could see all the actors leaving, rick smiled to me and robin did the birthday joke again. and THEN a few days later my friend posted a tweet abt it and robin actually replied so, you know, the fact that he did not forget abt it 10 minutes after was nice lmao.

once a fangirl, always a fangirl apparently. the fact that i first became a fan at 17 and now i’m 21, oof it hits ya. i truly think i will never live something that cool again, currahee forever or whatever !!

He’s a cuddler

Secretly listens to sad country/folk music, but acts like he wouldn’t be caught dead doing so

Maybe the same thing with mainstream pop music, like Taylor Swift. I could definitely see him being a secret T Swift fan

Resisted the idea at first, but unashamedly lets Jas paint his nails on the reg

Jas is the reason he dyes his hair purple because it’s her favorite color

definitely buys it from Sam at work or Seb on Friday nights outside of the Stardrop

Is kind of friends with Sam and thinks he’s hilarious. They get up to all sorts of shenanigans at work when Shane isn’t in a bad mood or hungover.

They totally ride pallet jacks around the back room together

Was totally a punk/emo kid (clothing therapy anyone?)

Started drinking too much after Jas’ parents’ deaths, though he was probably a frequent drinker before that but it sent him over the edge

Their deaths hit him hard and he couldn’t take care of himself, let alone a kid– hence the reason he moved in with Marnie

Looks frumpy in his depression clothes, but smells like clean laundry and whatever body wash and deodorant he uses (I like to imagine like fir/pine/citrus scents)

A lot of people like to say he doesn’t shower, but I think it’s the opposite. I think he takes a lot of hot showers and is meticulous about smelling good because he’s socially anxious. Too depressed to buy new clothes, but not depressed enough to smell like shit.

Not a vegetarian, but sometimes avoids meat and tries not to eat chicken, especially if it’s a chicken he’s raised.

Has undiagnosed ADHD and/or autism. Definitely neurodivergent in one way or another. 

Soccer, chickens (birds in general if you’ve seen his summit scene), and Journey of the Prairie King are his special interests/hyperfixations. 

Hums to himself and whistles a lot when he’s working or walking to/from work if he’s not in a bad mood

Definitely talks/mutters to himself, especially if he’s angry or anxious

Loves soccer/played soccer in school (not American football)
