शनि जयंती का हिन्‍दू धर्म में खास महत्‍व है. भगवान शनि देव के जन्‍मदिवस को शनि जयंती (Shani Jayanti) के रूप में मनाया जाता है. शनि जयंती को शनि अमावस्‍या (Shani Amavasya) के नाम से भी जाना जाता है. शनि जयंती और वट सावित्री व्रत (Vat Savitri Vrat) दोनो एक ही दिन पड़ते हैं. हिन्‍दू मान्‍यताओं के अनुसार भगवान शनि; सूर्यदेव के पुत्र व शनि ग्रह के स्‍वामी हैं. यही नहीं हफ्ते में शनिवार का दिन शनि देव (Shani Dev) के नाम ही समर्पित है. कहते हैं कि शनि जयंती के दिन उनकी पूजा करने से सभी मंगल कामनाएं पूर्ण होती हैं. हालांकि इस बार लॉकडाउन है, ऐसे में आप घर पर ही शनि देव की पूजा करें.

हिन्‍दू पंचांग के अनुसार शनि जयंती ज्‍योष्‍ठ माह की अमावस्‍या और वट सावित्री व्रत के दिन मनाई जाती है. ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर के अनुसार यह हर साल मई या जून महीने में आती है. इस बार शनि जयंती 22 मई 2020 को है.

शनि जयंती को शनि अमावस्‍या के नाम से भी जाना जाता है. भगवान शनि का जन्‍मदिन वट सावित्री व्रत के साथ मनाया जाता है. इस दिन भक्‍त व्रत रखते हैं और शनि देव की कृपा पाने के लिए मंदिर उनके दर्शन करने जाते हैं. शनि को न्‍याय का देवता भी कहा जाता है. मान्‍यता है कि शनि निष्‍पक्ष रूप से न्‍याय करते हैं और अगर वे अपने भक्‍तों से प्रसन्न हो गए तो उनकी सभी मनोकामनाएं पूर्ण होती हैं. कहते हैं कि जिन्‍हें शनि का आशीर्वाद नहीं मिलता उन्‍हें अनेक यातनाओं का सामना करना पड़ता है. शनि जयंती के दिन हवन, होम और यज्ञ कराना शुभ माना जाता है. इस दिन लोग साढ़े साती के दुष्‍प्रभाव को कम करने के लिए शनि शांति पूजा भी करवाते हैं.
