This one is from a Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries AU that I haven't talked about yet because it's still a mess in my head and I don't particularly care about the murders if I'm being honest, just about the setup they provide. So if this ever gets written, it's only going to be the emotional scenes with character development and barely anything on the actual crime solving.

2. What’s your favorite relationship in your story? Could be the main one, one your characters shares with a friend, etc.

My favorite relationship is between Griffin (the main character) and Bloom, who she takes in at the end of the first episode since Bloom has nowhere to go (or that's what she tells her) and isn't quite of age yet. I love the way they rely on each other since both of them are loners of their own doing because they're both convinced they are dangerous to the people around them and keep their distance to keep everyone else safe from themselves. It turns out that Griffin was friends with Bloom's dead parents and the relationship between the two of them helps Griffin come to terms with her past and her involvement in the events that killed Bloom's parents. Griffin helps Bloom break away from her fear of herself and learn more about herself and her abilities. They just really make each other's lives livable and much more and I love how they bring out so much positive change in the other.

3. If you had to direct a scene from your fic, what would you choose? Why? What would it look like? What techniques would you use to convey certain emotions? What would the set look like?

I think I'd pick the scene where Griffin's best friend - Faragonda - is brought in for questioning on suspicion of murder. I choose this scene because it brings out the most emotions from Faragonda. She's a warm person but she has a lot of trauma and hurt buried deep down and this scene brings all of that to the surface. Her private life and her emotional state are undergoing scrutiny by a person who's a stranger to her and by her best friend and she has things she would like to keep private from both of them. There's a big moment in the scene where feelings of hurt and pain between Griffin and Faragonda come out and there's a very tense feeling because that is a big reveal that they need to deal with to keep their friendship going but in the current moment they need to push it down in order to be able to prove Faragonda's innocence and there are these opposing impulses that are both aimed at saving their friendship in completely different ways. There's a lot of unwillingness on Faragonda's part to admit the truth even when she knows that not admitting it could get her in jail for murder and there's a lot of desperation on Griffin's part to help her friend only to be slapped in the face with how detrimental her past decisions have been to their friendship. On top of that, there's also the matter of them both a) mourning their shared friend that was killed, b) find the killer in order to honor their friend and find justice for her murder and c) shame that neither of them knows their dead friend well enough to be of more use to the investigation. It's a very emotional scene and one that speaks volumes of their characters and friendship.

Now I don't know much about directing but the scene would take place in a room for questioning and I would keep it as decluttered as possible. Only a table and chairs and the characters inside. Both as a way of leaving them nowhere to hide from the truth and so that there won't be anything to distract from the emotions that are taking place. Even their clothing would probably be an idea plainer than usual for that purpose. There will be, of course, fidgeting with any part of their outfits and avoidance of eye contact. I would mostly focus the camera on Griffin and Faragonda with enough time for the words that are said to sink in for both of them. There will only be quick shots of Valtor to remind that he is there both as an outsider to their friendship (something that will annoy Faragonda) and as the new variable that they desperately need to get out of the mess they've made (since left to their own devices, they managed to end up with suspicions of murder and bitterness between them). I could see Griffin standing while Faragonda and Valtor are sitting and towering over them as the one with the highest drive to get everything resolved (since she doesn't have any notions that are holding her back like the other two do). There's definitely a distance between her and Faragonda and it doesn't grow when the reveals happen but it's there to show the way they are stuck at a certain distance from each other thanks to their choices. Valtor is very much the one directing the conversation, though, and handling the impact that the confessions make on the two of them. That's all I can think of for now. I tried my best but you tell me if you'd hire me as a director. XD

4. What are your main character(s)’ motivations? What do you consider their main drivers?

Griffin's motivation in coming back to Magix City and solving crimes is to make up for her past mistakes. She's done some bad things that she can't make her peace with despite the long time that's passed (over 17 years) and she is trying to do the right thing now. Or at least that's what she tells herself. In fact, she is trying to run away from the overwhelming guilt she feels about her mother's death and she's trying to protect her father from herself because she's making him suffer with her inability to let go of that as she's still hunting for the killer over two decades later. She feels that if she finds out who murdered her mother and finds firm evidence of the motive, it would help her put the past to rest (and maybe feel less guilty).

The motivation of the other main character - Valtor - is actually a big twist so like MAJOR SPOILERS (I say like I'm confident this will definitely see the light of day and it might very well never see the light of day but still)). Valtor's main focus is finding a way out of the situation he's in where he's being blackmailed into working for the wrong side of the law. He did some things he shouldn't have (much like Griffin) and now they're being hung over his head by the big baddies and he needs to do what he's told which makes Griffin feel wildly betrayed when she learns about that in the last season. And I still haven't figured out what his cover-up motivation will be while he's hiding his true intentions because I haven't had time yet to consider all the characters individually while I'm piecing together the big picture.

There are several other characters who make appearances in almost every episode but I haven't yet figured out all of this AU so I'd rather not talk about them before I've decided what goes where.

15. The secret life of my secretary 

Do Min-Ik works as a director of the mobile media 1 team at T&T, he’s smart and excellent at his job however he doesn’t like to attach himself to people or his secretary. His secretary is Jung Gal-Hee, a diligent and motivated person that does whatever it takes to keep her job and feed her family. Do Min-Ik often does childish things like calling Jung Gal-Hee continually, Jung Gal-Hee carries out Do Min-Ik’s orders without complaints but though she may look soft, she hides her tough side. The tough side soon comes out as she is fired, much to Do Min-Ik’s regret he soon discovers that he’s going to need her more than ever and discovers a new side to her in the process.

16. W - Two worlds ( Really recommended!! )

A love story of two people split apart in different worlds connected by a webtoon. The series focuses on the eponymous fictional webtoon entitled W, written and illustrated by its legendary author and illustrator Oh Seong-moo. W became famous in the entire South Korea, the storyline of the webtoon W starts with the younger years of its main character Kang Chul, a handsome and intelligent boy who is also skilled in shooting. He becomes famous as he won a shooting competition during the 2004 Athens Olympics but this fame gets ruined when his entire family was killed by an unknown Murderer, and then framed for it. Another villain Han Cheol-ho  handles the case to gain political popularity, pronouncing in court to impose death penalty upon Kang Chul. Nevertheless, Kang Chul was deemed innocent of the crime. Depressed over losing his family, he attempts to commit suicide over the Han River but he stops himself and chooses to move on with his life.Ten years later, Kang Chul becomes a multimillionaire, starting his “Project W” in his continuous efforts to catch the real culprit behind his family’s death; part of the project is his television broadcasting company dubbed “W,” after the initials of the interrogatives “who” and “why” (hence, the title of the webtoon). One night, he receives a suspicious phone call and gets severely injured by the same mysterious Murderer at the rooftop of his penthouse, only to be saved by a mysterious girl, none other than the authors daughter. How did she get there? Why is she there? How will they become entangled?

17. My contracted husband Mr Oh

Han Seung-Joo (Uee) is a single woman in her mid 30’s who works as a PD at a broadcasting station. She does well at her job, but is not nearly as good when it comes to housework. Han Seung-Joo has a hard time dealing with social prejudices about single women but still refuses to marry at least until an incident that occurs leading to a dramatic change in her life. She seeks to find a husband thinking it would help her situation but to get the position of a “married woman,” Han Seung-Joo marries Oh Jak-Doo as a contract husband who lives in the mountain that she just happened to own. When Hye-soo is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, she agrees to marry Ji-hoon and donate part of her liver to his mother, in exchange for enough money to provide for her daughter until she reaches adulthood. Han Ji-Hoon is driving along when Hye-Soo is almost hit saving her 7 year old daughter Eun-Seong, He rushes her to the hospital as she faints however while she is being tested the Manager of the restaurant Han Ji-Hoon owns Ho-Joon tells him might be a scam and to make sure she is really hurt. Han Ji-Hoon has Hye-Soo’s phone and receives a call from a mysterious man which turns out to be the debt collector who comes to the hospital after hearing it being said in the background. He chases Hye-Soo when she is leaving, where he almost catches her but she in the end hides in Han Ji-Hoon’s car with Eun-Seong. Han Ji-Hoon’s mother has been rushed to the hospital where they find out that if she doesn’t get a liver transplant she will die but she is way down on the list so Han Ji-Hoon decides to marry a Hye-Soo she agrees so she can pay off her debt and also make sure Eun-Seong has money to grow up on as she gets the results back from when she fainted and she has a brain tumour. Eun-Seong in the beginning doesn’t like Han Ji-Hoon but she warms up to him as the pretend relationship blossoms into something real.

One day, Han-Na is invited to Sang-Joon’s birthday party and receives a red dress from him to wear to his party. Han-Na is excited, yet scared. The dress is revealing and quite extravagant. With her very large figure, she is not sure if she can wear such an outfit. Han-Na does eventually go to the birthday party in the red dress, but is mortified when petite Amy appears in the same red dress. During the course of the birthday party, Han-Na absorbs more emotional trauma and she simply disappears for one year. Han-Na then returns as the beautiful Jenny, a beautiful stunner who decides to make it on her own in the industry but encounters her once sided love. Will she be a success? Will her feelings get in the way and can she keep the guilt of the consequences of what her change brings?

A tv show adapted from a manga ( that I particularly loved).  After her older sister refuses to go to an arranged marriage meeting with Takane Saibara, the heir to a vast business fortune, high schooler Hana Nonomura agrees to be her stand-in to save face for the family. But what happens when Hana meets Takane is an unexpected pairing of utter opposites! Although it seemed a little rushed at the end it was a nice tv show!

Here's a tidbit of the e-book I have been writing behind the scenes in my spare time. It will be geared toward individuals who know a bit about the signs, houses, and planets, but have not quite figured out the nature of transits and how they work in unison with the astrology basics.  The Moon

First, let's talk about the nature of the Moon. The Moon is the luminary that rules the night, casting reflections down to Earth as she moves through her many phases. The Moon rules the sign Cancer, and so she can be considered an individual since she does not co-rule any other sign. She is exalted at 3° Taurus. The Moon represents change; as she waxes, she gains in strength; as she wanes, she releases and let's go. The Moon is our comfort source, so she attempts to develop the sign and house she sits in to help us feel happy and peaceful. The Moon is our deepest consciousness, that part of us that observes and recognizes that we are thinking: "Cogito, ergo sum," - I think therefore I am (Descartes, Discourse on Method, 1637). As such, the Moon allows us to receive, experience, process, and understand the information we encounter throughout our lives. The Moon is our individuality, and that part of us that interacts empathizes, and relates to others. The Moon is that part of us that can discriminate and make choices for our best good, and because the Moon rules change, the Moon is that part of us that can discern whether our choices are valid – and make course corrections toward better choices if that is what is needed for our deepest happiness. The Moon wants to be involved with others productively and beneficially, and if the Moon feels discouraged or feels like a burden, the Moon can feel unhappy. Monday is the day of the Moon, and as such, we can pay homage to the Moon on Mondays when we need to strengthen her to increase our powers of discernment. Saturn Now, let's speak about the nature of Saturn. Saturn is the furthest visible planet in our solar system, and he is lame, dark, and slow. Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius, but he is happier in the sign of Aquarius. He is exalted at 21° Libra. Saturn rules time, and he tends to plod forward slowly, thickly, and steadily. Saturn is solitary in nature and tends to resolve problems through seeking oneness with the natural world. Saturn's energy is our survival instinct; it operates solely on getting us through challenges and has no personal agenda, inspirations, or ambitions for fulfillment. Saturn rules our weaknesses, and his cycle is long. It takes him approximately 29 years to transit the zodiac, and his influence is strongly felt at approximately 7, 14, and 21 years of age. During these transits from Saturn to natal Saturn, the individual can undergo profound turning points in their lives. Saturn is considered a malefic planet but has a stronger malefic effect within a night chart. He rules Saturdays, and if Saturn needs to be strengthened or appeased, ritually honoring him on Saturdays may be useful.

The Nature of Transit Saturn Conjunct the Moon It is clear to see why transiting Saturn conjunct the natal Moon would result in an experience likened to the soul's dark night. The Moon, sitting in its natal house, has a specific way that it views the world, and that view has been imprinted on the individual through experiences and socialization that form a psyche and consciousness that, although quick to course correct, also has patterns – synapses that have formed in the brain through repetitive patterns. The Moon seeks comfort, and when it experiences any discomfort, it will try to quickly course correct. However, transiting Saturn will not allow for this course correction. Instead, Saturn requires the Moon to stay still and do the emotional and psychological work needed to remap the brain's synapses, insisting that this difficult internal labor be performed step-by-step. We cannot grow as individuals if our ability to perceive the world around us does not change over time. Changing our level of consciousness is deep and laborious work!

The individual is left with the choice to either persevere, develop, and heal the way they have come to view the world and themselves or languish in a heightened state of fear and exhaustion that leads them toward healing in a longer and more indirect way. Saturn is not an easy taskmaster. If we refuse to do the inner work that is necessary for us to ascend to a higher level of consciousness, we are much more likely to find ourselves taking the longer route, and scraping ourselves off of countless rock-bottom situations that we are forced to endure because we are not acknowledging our own responsibility toward healing our state of consciousness - this is something that can only be done by the volition of the individual themselves! Yes, we can have aid from ancestors, guides, God, mentors, therapists, shamans - but if we are not dedicated to our own development, Saturn is quick to clap down on us. We may wind up identifying with a state of victimhood, isolation, and fear that can only be transcended by doing the difficult work that Saturn requires while learning to channel the higher energy of Jupiter. In these dire circumstances calling upon a higher power and finding purpose and meaning is crucial for us to come out of this energy with Saturn's blessings through active and persistent dedication. The feeling of fear and isolation that can overwhelm us during this time can be intense, particularly as it pertains to most of the things that people hold dear: their view of the world, their homes, health, and mother-figures. It is much easier to endure the reformation and upgrade of our consciousness if we walk in this transit with some form of faith and a sense of personal responsibility for transformation. On the positive side, Saturn blesses us exponentially when we are dedicated and show that we can overcome the drudgery of his tasks. On the other side of a productive Saturn transit to the Moon, we can find ourselves with insights and understandings that help us overcome deeply set traumas and an entirely new view of the world around us. When we finally see the light after the storm the inner work is well worth the reward. The quality, placement, and aspects that influence the Moon and Saturn in the natal chart will greatly affect how an individual experiences their dark night of the soul. The quality of Jupiter in the natal chart will also influence the individual’s ability to overcome the fear and isolation that Saturn can bring. The entire natal chart must be assessed together for information about how the individual will be able to persevere through times of hardship – for some people, perseverance is nearly impossible, and for others, it is a welcome and healing journey that leads them to develop higher spiritual consciousness.

My Top 10 Favorite Black Clover Characters!

1 Asta

Before I got into Black Clover, I always heard a lot of negative comments about Asta as a character. “He’s too loud” “He’s extremely annoying” “He’s just a generic character”. After hearing so many of these types of comments, I was curious to see if what people said about him was true. And now that I’m up to date with the manga and seen every episode of the anime (except the recent filler episodes), I can confidently say, “WHO THE HELL WERE THESE GUYS REFERRING TO AGAIN???”. Like… hello?? I don’t know if maybe I’m just not that critical as a person, but I found Asta’s character to be quite endearing! People hated his voice but I thought it was pretty fine! It may be because I watched the dub, but even his Japanese voice isn’t that bad. Asta is just seems like an overall solid character to me! He’s not generic because he has a lot of quirks that makes him unique. One thing I noticed about his character was how family-oriented he was. You can tell by how he played around with other kids or comforted them that he has a lot of experience with kids! It’s honestly adorable how great he is with kids! And even though he grew up in an orphanage, he was able to find happiness as a peasant. I liked how he dreamt big even though he was starting from the very bottom. He didn’t have magic at all but he still had the determination to fight against all odds and strive to be Wizard King. Do you know how inspirational that is? And he’s not just doing it for himself,  he’s doing for his family back at the orphanage! He said it himself, as Wizard King he’ll fix up the church and spread the message that it doesn’t matter if you’re a peasant or orphan, anybody can be Wizard King. Asta truly has a heart of gold because his goal isn’t just full of self-interest. I also like how he wants people to be held accountable for their actions. Asta is a very fair person and isn’t one to automatically kill the opponent to save the day. No, Asta wants these bad people to serve their time and make up for what they’ve done. Like??? Wow, Asta, you have a lot of mercy for a shounen protagonist. I think that’s what I love about Asta’s character. He represents hope for other people. And I’m a sucker for characters who fight for what’s right and not because of some heroic prophecy or selfishness. 

This is where I list out random things I like about Asta’s character: Asta’s crush on Sister Lily is hilarious because it truly represents ‘fighting against the odds’ in a comedic way. Asta’s short stature is so cute, I hope he remains short for the rest of his life and grows to be proud of it. I really love Asta’s character design. He’s short, his ash blond messy hair is cute and unique, his sharp green eyes are beautiful, his shoes are two different shoes sewn together, and his fashion sense is simple yet nice to look at!  A very distinct design! And his anti-magic and demon possession is a cool addition to his character! I’d gush more about him but I think this is already too much lmao.

2. Fuegoleon Vermillion

I’m going to push aside my thirst for this man and actually talk seriously about what I love about his character. I’m going to first talk about his character design. I really love how Tabata designed Fuegoleon. For one, I really love how he’s wearing eye makeup. I think it’s a unique family tradition for each of the kids to wear this distinct eye makeup no matter the gender. His eye makeup and burned symbol on his forehead really made him distinct from other characters! It’s subtle but visually pleasing! And ‘subtlety’ is a good word to summarize Fuegoleon despite how ironic that word is. When we look at Fuegoleon’s hair in comparison to his other siblings, his smooth hair tells us he’s more orderly and responsible but his curly bangs tells us that he isn’t completely cool-headed. His red eye makeup could also tell us that he has a fierce side to him, as if his eyes are glowing red with fire. And comparing his face with Nozel’s (both are around the same age), Fuegoleon looks older with his eye wrinkles, telling us that he’s more of an old soul and matured fast for his age. That and he probably overworked himself with a lot of responsibilities. His color scheme is also very attractive! He has a balance of warm and cool colors which makes him look… balance! 

Now as a character, I really love the trope he represents! He’s the mentor figure for Leopold, Asta, and Noelle! For a character who isn’t part of the main cast, I find it impressive how impactful his words of wisdom was to the major leads. But it makes so much sense after all the things we’ve learned about Fuegoleon as a character! Fuegoleon has a lot of strengths as a character that I couldn’t help but fall for. Firstly, his debut of a character was short but memorable for me. During the Magic Knights exam, he was the only captain who passionately yelled about the rules of the next test. That was such a character defining moment because those few seconds perfectly described how intense and serious he is. He could’ve calmly announced the next test but the fire within him told him to jump up and yell those words with all his heart. The next time we saw him, we finally got to know him a lot better as a character and man did he win a lot of respect from me. Despite being a royal, he stood up for Asta when no noble did. He was the first noble to treat Asta fairly right away. In comparison to other nobles we’ve come across, Fuegoleon was a breath of fresh air! He wasn’t discriminating or condescending, which made him a lot more likable! I liked how he came from a privileged background but his sense of justice was still a 5/5. You just can’t hate this guy! His visuals are not only attractive but also his personality! He charmed me even more when he was the first to act and became a temporary leader for the other captains! His leadership, inspirational words, and fairness makes him an overall respectable character! I found him even more endearing when we saw his socially awkward personality. Serious + awkward are perfect combinations for a cute character. I also find his fire magic, salamander, and fire arm to be cool as well! He’s just a great character to me!

3. Finral Roulacase

Okay I’m going to try and not write too much like I did with Asta and Fuegoleon lmao. I need to chill-. Finral is the type of underdog character I always loved in anime. The character people don’t think much of at first but then they undergo a lot of character development! I liked how we saw subtle changes within Finral throughout the series and the resolve he gained as an older brother to Langris. His character arc was overall satisfying to me, especially during his final clash against Langris! Finral just has that good amount of light-hearted times (mixers, casanova wannabe personality, cowardly moments) and family drama! I would never expect a lot of depth in Finral based on his character trope but here we are. Finral is such a likeable guy. I just can’t hate him. I also like how he isn’t a perverted character. He just wants LOVE. Also his spacial magic? I love how unique it is! He’s a walking taxi but the fact that he developed a new magic spell to use it during combat is amazing! I also love how kindness is a big part of his character! A very peaceful libra~! I think what made him above Noelle was that I found his character to be charming ever since the very beginning! That and the fact that he can be considered the ‘underdog’ of the Black Bulls!

4.Noelle Silva

Oh Noelle! You beautiful and frustrating character! I’ll be honest, I had mixed feelings about Noelle when I first got into Black Clover. I was never a fan of overly exaggerated tsundere characters and so I would get frustrated with her tendency to act this certain way in the beginning. It was the true definition of slow burn but it’s through this gradual liking toward Noelle that made me feel strong and positive emotions towards her today. Slowly but surely, Noelle began finding her worth as a person and magic knight. All her life, Noelle was put down by those she called family and other noblemen for her lack of control over her magic. And it’s through this understanding of her backstory where I truly get why she wears that tsundere mask with other people. She can’t take a compliment normally because not only had she never been complimented before, but she grew up in an environment that taught her how she should act as a royal. She was bound to be unlikable at first, but it’s through a lot of character development and understanding where I found my love for Noelle. Noelle to me is how most shounen female leads should be. She has a crush on Asta but that’s not her entire character. She has internal struggles outside of her love interest and went through so much development that she became one of the most powerful young magic users in the series. Like the power ups she went through?? HOLY SHIT. The fact that she made me forgive her tsundere tendencies shows how great her character was.

5. Magna Swing

Man, I’m also a sucker for characters like Magna! I just love the delinquent with the heart of gold! Magna appears like your everyday punk but he really is such a good guy! It’s fun to see characters that subverts expectations and Magna is no exception! It’s small actions from this guy that makes him so likable! I really love how aggressive and uninviting Magna was in testing Asta only to heart warmingly accept Asta into the squad once he passed! He does this again when he makes fun of Asta for having a very small room but then tells Asta to send letters back home so that his loved ones aren’t worried! LIKE HELLO?? Why are you so lovingly contradicting?! Magna really tries to uphold his tough guy image but does sweet things right afterwards!! Magna’s character said never judge a book by its cover! I also find his loyalty toward Yami to be so sweet! He’s willing to gamble his clothes for this man and I call that DEDICATION. Magna is that ride or die friend that I’d love to have in real life. His interactions with other characters are also hilarious and his presence always brings a smile to my face! 

I know I keep talking about character design but I can’t help it since Tabata’s character design is GREAT! Magna’s design… I LOVE IT!! He has the cliche leather jacket and skull motifs to bring his delinquent look together! And Tabata had to give him blue shades!! The perfect accessory to complete the look! I also love his hair style and color! Magna is this close to having a pompadour but stuck with a Mohawk look instead! I also like how his hair has two different colors! It tells me right away that people dye their hair in this world! Interesting information for subtle world building! Light gray and black is such an nice color combination, too! I like how he becomes more of a pretty boy when his hair is down! It’s a nice surprise~! And his most iconic character trait. HIS SMILE! I love anime characters with toothy smiles! We can literally count how many teeth they have- LDKAFJSA. Reminds me a lot of Totoro! 

I  JUST LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

6. Klaus Lunettes

Klaus… Santa Klaus… I think I may have a type because in my top three characters I’d date, he and Fuegoleon are up there together! Both are serious and high strung characters with a dorky side to them. These two truly captured my heart-! Klaus is overall a great character! Klaus is the straitlaced character who wants to be respected by others. Sadly nobody gives him that respect and I find that hilarious! I love how short-tempered he is despite how cool and collected he wants to appear to others! Everything about him is contradicting! His hairstyle and earrings are punk rock but his glasses clash with it. He seems disciplined and mature, but is the first to crack and get overworked by emotions. Klaus acts stern, but can be very protective and nurturing. His character did a literal 180 after Asta and Yuno saved them all from Mars. And when he gets worried over Asta and it always warms my heart!! Klaus is lowkey a tsundere but is actually subtle about it- wow! He’s so… comically dedicated. He doesn’t half-ass anything! Overall, he’s a solid character to me! I hope to see more from this nerd!

I’m just going to list out other things I liked about Klaus: I love how his character quirk is him readjusting his glasses. Like get some new glasses if they don’t fit you nerd. 7.Julius Novachrono

I deadass thought this man was shady af. I'll have to blame OP 3 and Tabata for clowning me like that but despite the initial suspicion, I really enjoyed his character! I really love how dorky and childish he is! I can never get tired of his fanboy moments in the anime! He's literally the strongest mage in the series but still gets excited over rare or unique magic! I also love how humble he is! He doesn't let his title give him a big head. Despite this quirky side to Julius, I liked how realistic and competent he is as well. He isn’t one to give hopeful answers to other characters. When he said in order to be Wizard King you must have merits, I respected his honesty. Having good morals isn’t all you need to be Wizard King and Julius made that very clear. When he killed off a few members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, that’s when his character became more real to me. Julius has the experience needed to be a well respected Wizard King and his support towards Yuno and Asta made me like him more! Julius just has a lot of depth and I really appreciate that in a character! I found the path Tabata put Julius in to be very interesting to me! I’m actually glad he’s still alive but as a kid! The series isn’t ready to lose their Wizard King yet and there’s still a lot from Julius I’d love to see in the future! Julius truly brings a lot of humor and epic moments in Black Clover which is why he’s in my top 10 favorite characters!

I also love his character design! I think the short and blonde hairstyle with the royal king aesthetic is pleasing to the eye! He could’ve been a total snob like King Augustus but he strayed away from that trope! His name is similar to Julius Caesar in which represents his leadership and powerful authority as Wizard King, but subverts negative traits associated with Julius Caesar! Clever Tabata~!

8. Vanessa Enoteca

I’m going to have to shout out Vanessa’s arc for making her character be in my top 10. Like if it weren’t for the witches’ forest arc, she wouldn’t have made it in my top 10. I thought Vanessa’s character was a given for a shounen series where we have at least one sexy female character for fanservice, but I’m pleasantly surprised at how deep her character was! Who would have known that there was an actual reason for her to have a revealing design! I think it’s fine to have a character who wears revealing clothes for the heck of it, but I feel like Tabata went the extra mile to be pretty thoughtful about it. For one, she was always caged in (literally and figuratively) ever since she was a child. This backstory indirectly tells us why she wears such revealing clothing. That’s because it symbolizes her freedom as her own person. She went from the modest dress she wore when she was caged in to a sexy dress! I really understand this mentality!!

As a character, I found her lack of freedom to be very relatable. I also felt sympathetic towards her character when she didn’t receive healthy motherly love. I felt a lot of emotions for Vanessa and that made me appreciate her character more! I feel like her character started to leave a positive impression on me when she acknowledged Asta’s strength and determination as well as her helping Noelle as a proper older sister figure! Her arc solidified herself into my top ten when she gained the powers of red thread of fate because of her love for the Black Bulls. That power up shows how much she values the Black Bulls and it always makes me feel soft just thinking about it! Her magic ability is also pretty cool. Thread magic? There’s a lot you can do with that magic! I like how she had a prominent role of maneuvering Asta during the Veto fight, too. Vanessa is another female character with an incredibly strong magic power. It became so useful in so many moments in the series! 

Other comments I’d like to say about why I like Vanessa is her sexy witch aesthetic. I think she looks very pretty and her color scheme is beautiful!

9, Charmy Pappitson

OH GEMINI QUEEN. I love you so. What I like about Charmy was how many times she surprised me. When I first saw her, she looked like she’s a kid but she’s actually 19 years old. What? Then when I saw that she was the glutton, I thought she’d be selfish with her food but then she shares it with others. Huh? Then I assumed she was a harmless character but then she knocked out that witch when she mistaken her for stealing her food with her sheep magic. Oh? And just when I thought I saw everything I needed to know about Charmy, it’s revealed that she was a dwarf and has food magic. HELLO? Like what else am I going to learn about Charmy?! She’s such an unpredictable character and that’s what makes her so fun to watch! The thing is, she still remains the same after all these reveals! She doesn’t really go through a lot of character development but these surprises make up for it! Charmy is overall a feel good character. She’s not one to be taken seriously all the time and that’s okay! She’s just there to have a good time! She radiates good vibes and I like how light-hearted Charmy is! She’s also pretty badass, too, so great combination!

10. Gordon Agrippa

And finally we have Gordon. Gordon. is. such. a. good. boy! There’s no bad bone in this man! He’s so dedicated and loyal to his friends! And it makes me feel bad that he doesn’t get the love he deserves in the canon story! Everything about him is so pure and soft! I love how he’s very quiet and mumbles a lot but the words he says are very sweet! I’d love to listen to his friendship speeches all day! Gordon is the type of guy I’d definitely want as a best friend. His quiet voice and my deaf ears aren’t a great combination but I don’t care! Gordon’s personality is perfect to me! I really hope we get to see more from him in the future!

In terms of character design, I absolutely love it! His goth aesthetic contrasts so much with his actual personality. I love the Marilyn Manson inspiration behind Gordon’s design. His character design is so distinct from other characters which makes him stick out like a sore thumb. This is random but I love how thick his lips are. The black lipstick and eye shadow also looks great on him! His nose is also cutely big! 

Gordon is one of the best boi. No question!

Visual Novel Review - National Park Girls - Episode 2: Happy Trails

After seven months, we finally have the second part of Studio Coattails’ episodic slice of life visual novel, National Park Girls: Episode 2 - Happy Trails. The game continues from where the first episode left off, following cynical park ranger Eve as she lives out her exiled with her new roommates, three magical and adorable girls that are embodiments of different American national parks. As this is the second episode in the game, a lot is the same as the first. The art is fantastic, the full English voice acting is nearly perfect, and it is all funny and cute as a button doing stand-up. If you want to learn more about the game, check out my review of Episode 1. Now to examine what Episode 2 has to offer.

Happy Trails starts with a stylized flashback of the incident that landed Eve on probation. This strong opening is one of the best scenes in the visual novel. The jagged black and white artwork, redesigned UI, and jarring sound effects are as disturbing as they are incredible. Not only is the direction excellent, but the story nicely feeds into Eve’s arc in the episode.

From this fantastic opening scene, we jump into the daily life of the cabin. Eve is grouchy, Yosemite is stuck in her research, and Zion is cute but otherwise uninteresting (I desperately hope that she gets more screen time and development in Episode 3). The plucky Yellowstone is bouncing around preparing breakfast and doing the housework. Throughout the morning, the women begin to bicker, causing Yellowstone storms off in a huff. While Eve is out working, she finds the volcano-headed girl, and the two take a quick magical excursion to Yellowstone National Park. There they hike around, talk, help some inexperienced campers, and solve each other’s emotional issues, thus wrapping the episode’s plot up nicely.

There are a lot of positive aspects to the story of this episode. Eve goes through some quality character development, realizing that she is often too harsh and unforgiving of others. The humor in the story is top quality, dare I say, “Dope AF” (a reference that every Twitter post, Steam review, and forum post about this game will include). It also contains some excellent environmentalism commentary about the ways humans treat nature and neglect to consider the long term impact of our actions. The dialogue is exceptionally well written, and the relationship between Eve and Yellowstone was believable, entertaining, and realistic. Lastly, props for the scene where Eve says she is not into stories, gossip, or boys (I know this is not a romance, but my Yuri radar is stuck in the “On and Desperate” position).

The central conflict and reason for Yellowstone’s tantrum is that she feels overlooks. Despite all she does to keep the “household” running, nobody every thanks her or offers to help. I take no issue with this storyline, but the execution is flawed. To establish this plot, Yosemite is made significantly meaner than she was in Episode 1. She was always harsh, sarcastic, and exasperated, but here she is downright cruel to Yellowstone, and that is not hippy skippy! Also, despite Yellowstone being the center of the story, she undergoes very little development. Instead, it is the others who grow as people… national parks… and become kinder and more appreciative. Again, this is not inherently a problem, but it could have been done better. If Yosemite and Zion were featured a bit more, their evolution would feel more natural and satisfying as a payoff.

While Yellowstone’s arc is my main qualm with Episode 2: Happy Trails, I did encounter some smaller issues. A few of these were technical, such as the wrong voice line playing, or the absence of audio altogether. Additional, during the first half of the game, Yosemite sounds ever so slightly muffled. Fortunately, Rachael Messer’s performance is so good I feel ashamed for even pointing it out. There is also one awkward scene early on where Yellowstone fears that forgetting to make coffee will result in abuse, but she quickly returns to her usual peppy self. However, these instances are noticeable and detract from the overall experience.

It feels like I railed against the game a while there, but I really did enjoy it. There is a lot to love here. The English voicing is phenomenal, Jill Harris once again steals the show as Yellowstone and has plenty of screen time to show off her talent. Satchely’s CG artwork is beautiful and clean, they are easily some of the best offerings in visual novels. I would buy this game for the images alone. Studio Coattails even improved many aspects of the game I criticized in my review of Episode 1. For example, the sprite animation, while still fluid and dynamic, is toned down and used with greater impact. Lastly, the backgrounds are a vast improvement. Yellowstone Park is nearly as beautiful as the real thing, and it clashes way less with the sprites. Thanks to the backgrounds, the already phenomenal artwork is lifted to the next level.

National Park Girls Episode 2: Happy Trails will easily please players with its plethora of adorable characters, funny dialogue, and astounding artwork. While it does take a few missteps with the story, it is still enjoyable, and I know that it can get even better in future episodes. I eagerly await Episode 3 and pray we will not have to wait too long for it.

Her relationship with her biological mother lasted slightly longer.  They were together for a whole eight and a half months before Cessily decided enough was enough and wanted out early.  Her mother had been equally as drunk and high during the one night stand and never changed her destructive lifestyle while carrying Cessily.  She had continued to drink heavily, smoke and do various drugs throughout the pregnancy.

Had it not been for a couple of good Samaritans Cessily would have been born literally in the streets of Eugene but the passers by got her mother, who was drunk and high on whatever her latest kick was, into an ambulance and to the nearest hospital.  Miraculously Cessily was born without a hitch but she was completely silent as a newborn.  For her own safety she was never handed to her mother but was instead moved to a special care unit so that she could be monitored for any side effects of being born prematurely - of which there were none that were obvious.

The red flags were raised immediately and after a single visit from social workers it was decided her mother was in no way suitable to bring up a child, especially given her reckless behaviour during the pregnancy and utter disinterest in her newborn child.  Cessily was placed immediately into the adoption system and a brief search of approved families found the perfect candidates to take her in and give her a life on the completely opposite side of the social scale - the Summers family, shareholders in the nearby Aldridge Boardwalk and owners of the Summer Sun Hotel, also in Aldridge.  The couple had been trying for a baby of their own for years but had been unsuccessful so they had decided to adopt.  One look at baby Cessily was all they needed to fall for her big dark eyes and they started the adoption process, getting accepted almost immediately due to the profile of the family.

On the day they picked her up they gave her the name Cessily, after St Cecilia, the patroness of musicians.  It was a name linked more to the hotel than the family itself as the hotel was marketed as a modern alternative to the Cozy Inn with up to date facilities and live music or entertainment throughout the summer season.  The name was a symbol of Cessily leaving her very early days and the biological parents who had failed her behind forever.  The accelerated adoption process meant the standard health checks were completed quicker than usual and a false-positive result wasn’t noticed and wouldn’t come to light until a few years later.  Regardless; Cessily was a very happy and loved baby who was surrounded by family who welcomed her with open arms and doted on her maybe just a little bit too much.

Throughout her very early years some unusual quirks started to be spotted by people who spent the most time with Cessily, most notably her parents.  When they found out later what was causing the quirks it was a case of the signs were all there but weren’t being looked for so the dots weren’t connected.  There were a number of so-called ‘lucky escapes’ where a loud noise was accidentally created in or near the room where Cessily was sleeping but she didn’t stir or wake up.  Cessily seemed more bemused than entertained by toys and rattles which made different noises and often gave the impression of being completely oblivious to anything happening around her that wasn’t right in front of her.  She remained a very quiet baby, rarely crying but also rarely seeming to take an interest in what was around her as she ignored the radio, voices around her and was very slow to recognise her own name.

The moment of realisation came at a gathering of all the Boardwalk committee member families organised by Magnus.  Cessily was old enough to sit unaided and was contentedly playing with a toy that had lots of different fabrics to stimulate her sense of touch.  The fabrics were all different colours and each one made a different sound when scrunched as well.  One of Magnus’ children had come bursting into the room through a door behind Cessily, screaming at the top of their voice as they ran around the room.  Everyone in the room had jumped… except Cessily who continued to scrunch her fabrics.  It was only when the other child ran in front of her that Cessily reacted and that reaction was surprise that the other child was there… like she’d had no idea they had just been running around screaming behind her.

At that moment the penny dropped in her father’s mind - Cessily was deaf.

A hearing test was immediately booked and the suspicions were confirmed, suddenly all the little quirks made sense.  Cessily’s world changed almost overnight.  Toys that did nothing but make noises disappeared, replaced by ones that flashed or buzzed or had different textures to feel.  Nobody tried to get her attention without being in her eyesight any more either and they found she became much more reactive to them now that they understood what she was experiencing.

Further tests were scheduled to establish the extent of Cessily’s hearing loss and what the best course of action was going forwards.  Her parents took sign language classes and began teaching signs to Cessily as early as they could.  There was a delay in Cessily developing speech but that was to be expected now and she had a method of communication despite this.  Her hearing loss was rated as severe - she could hear some things, but not much and not well.

Over the next few years further tests and research was completed to uncover how, if at all, Cessily’s hearing could be improved.  Her parents and surrounding family had accepted that there may be nothing that could be done and she was already enrolled in a deaf-specific school.  If Cessily remained completely deaf for the rest of her life she would still be loved and accepted but due to this being a brand new scenario for everyone involved they wanted a complete picture of what options were available to them so that they could decide what was best for their darling daughter.

The cause of Cessily’s deafness was found and it turned out there was a procedure she could undergo which could potentially help her hear better with the addition of hearing aids as well.  It may not work or may not improve things by much but it was decided it was worth a go.  Cessily underwent the procedure and had special hearing aids made.  Her parents spared no expense, wanting Cessily as comfortable as possible they upgraded her to a private room at the hospital.  Having been along for the whole ride with the family, members of the Boardwalk committee also got together to commission some custom made hearing aids with Cessily’s initials on them.

Her parents both say that their fondest memory of Cessily is from a few days after the procedure on the day the hearing aids were tried for the first time.  Seeing their little girl sitting in her hospital room with her new hearing aids in and seeing the smile that truly filled Cessily’s face when she heard her parents voices for the first time.  Her hearing was by no means perfect, but it was much improved.

Cessily remained at the deaf schools and continued her sign language classes, eventually picking up both American and British Sign Language as she saw tourists coming to visit the Boardwalk and staying at the hotel that were signing but she couldn’t understand.  She took speech classes at school and also had a private tutor to progress her further which helped her become much more engaged in any Boardwalk gatherings that were held though she had a tendency to hold back in public or when surrounded by new people.  Cessily picked up lip reading very quickly and the process was helped along by everyone that could signing to her as they spoke.

When she turned sixteen Cessily was sat down by her parents to have a serious conversation and the adults had agreed that it would be completely signed as that was what Cessily was most comfortable with.  Cessily being adopted had never been a secret and she had known as soon as she had been old enough to understand what that meant, but the reasons why she was adopted had always been kept vague until now.  Cessily was told everything that was known of her biological mother and how she had come to be in her parent’s care.  They also offered to help find her biological parents should Cessily wish to meet them.  The young girl was very grateful for the offer but there was nothing her biological parents could give her and she had no interest in meeting them.  The offer was kept open so if at any point she changes her mind she will have the support and help of the family but Cessily can’t see herself ever changing her mind.

By the time Cessily turned eighteen she had grown into a somewhat shy and quiet girl in large crowds or when surrounded by new people but if she was comfortable and with people she knew she was able to have them hanging on her every word - even when she wasn’t actively speaking.  Her mastery of lip reading, two forms of sign language and speech therapy meant that communication wasn’t too much of an issue for her and she was truly in her element when surrounded by her non-hearing friends as well.

It quickly became clear that Cessily wasn’t a comfortable leader, much preferring to be a follower and chiming in when she could.  She definitely wasn’t one for presenting ideas in a grand way but the ideas were definitely there.  What Cessily could do was watch a situation unfold, analyse it, then at the perfect moment step in with a quiet suggestion that was obvious to her but others were struggling to think of.  She was a natural problem solver and once she was old enough she was invited to get involved in the running of the hotel, her parents completely looking past her disability and positioning her to take over one day and maybe even step into the Boardwalk committee when the time came.

Her father was thrilled to have an outside-the-box thinker in the hotel and Cessily was very good in her rather ambiguous and nameless role at the hotel so he always encouraged her to get more and more involved.  Cessily enjoyed the day to day running of the hotel in the summer season, the varying people coming through always brought something new with them but she found herself getting bored and unengaged during the off season.  Her father was rather disappointed with this but her mother took a more pragmatic approach and she encouraged Cessily to find her own interests and not feel pressured into anything related to the family business.

It was over a particularly quiet winter that Cessily discovered a love of art.  The visual medium appealing strongly to her given her circumstances.  She had a natural talent for it as well and with a lot of practice and hard work she developed her own recogniseable style.  One of her proudest moments is watching her father hang a painting she had completed of the Boardwalk up in the hotel reception area.  Seeing her father be supportive of something not hotel-based gave her the confidence to finally ask him for something she had been holding on to for a while - she wanted to go to university to study art.  Seeing how much it meant to her, her father agreed and hid his disappointment that she may not follow in his footsteps and take over the hotel one day.  Cessily surprised him once again though, as she so often did.

After studying hard and acing her degree in art Cessily had a wide selection of options available to her, but she chose to stay at home and return to helping with the hotel whilst still progressing her art online.  Her father was thrilled with Cessily’s renewed enthusiasm and with her artwork serving as a more suitable creative outlet her ideas for the hotel became more focused and slowly began to increase in scale and scope as well.

Cessily’s story is in no way a secret and she is widely known throughout the town of Aldridge, not just for her presence at the hotel but now for her artwork as well which often focuses on some of the key town locations, showing off its best side as well as the variety of the Boardwalk throughout the different seasons of the year.

What is their opinion about the boardwalk and it’s effect on the town?

Cessily, of course, fully supports the Boardwalk.  She has seen first hand the amount of work her father puts into it despite being under Magnus Beasley in the overall stakes but she also understands the Boardwalk’s success is directly linked to that of the hotel.  One cannot exist without the other and she’s not about to let her family’s business fail because a few people don’t like the seasonal influx of tourists.
