Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift has declined to address that rumor-Global superstar Taylor Swift ("and the winner is...") This is the first time photographers have caught T-Swift on film in six weeks. Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift. Grammys' youngest ever winner of Album of the Year, Fearless. Is there Bad Blood? Taylor Swift is responsible for me being suspended. Taylor Swift is in hot water again. Taylor Swift is on top of the world, but has she done some sketchy things to get there? Thirteen celebs who have issues with Taylor Swift. I felt like she was a little angry. Number thirteen. There she is leaving a restaurant. She holds too many grudges. Why did Taylor Swift-You can see her feet at the very bottom, and can see her making her way into the car. I can understand trying to keep your relationship to yourself at the beginning, or needing to take some time to work on your craft. But come on! And Taylor, voluntarily bringing attention to herself of her donations. What Swift did is not enough. Yeah, okay Tay, Whatever you say. I, I hate to say this, but I think Taylor Swift is learning a few lessons in life. All this drama is exhausting. Taylor Swift should focus on making the rest of reputation. Reputation. What it is-Reputation. Taylor Swift's new romance is heating up. Reputation. And what has happened to the squad. Reputation. But at the same time, I think both-Reputation. Taylor Swift takes the stand in court today. Taylor Swift's reputation. Reputation. Reputation. so instead we'll talk about Taylor Swift's reputation. Reputation. break my heart again
Tumblr media
an angsty one shot about overheard conversations, Grammy awards and a girl who just wants to be loved
“I’m sorry,” Harry apologised, regret etched into his face.
“Don’t be,” Bella replied, not turning to look at him. “I can’t say I didn’t see this coming.”
“It’s the Grammy’s,” He implored, reaching out and tugging on her shoulder to get her to look back at him.
She shrugged his arm off and took a step further away before sucking in a deep breath and turning to face Harry once again. “I know. And I get it. I really get it, Harry. This is a big opportunity for you and you have a real chance of winning.”
“Yes, exactly!” He said in relief, allowing a small smile to curl his lips. But Bella didn’t smile back and his own slipped off just as quickly as it had appeared. “There’s a but,” he stated.
“There’s a but,” Bella nodded. “My sister’s wedding is on the same day. You knew this.”
“I know,” he agreed.
“But this is more important to you,” Bella continued for him.
“Don’t put words in my mouth,” Harry replied sharply, his lips turning down as he tried not to snarl. He hated when people accused him of things when they had no idea what was going through his head.
“I’m not,” she shrugged. “I heard you on the phone to your manager,” she took another step away from him.
“You were listening in on my phone calls?” he glared at her, feeling a pinch in his chest. He ignored it, refusing to acknowledge the trickle of guilt forming in his heart.
“You know I wasn’t,” Bella shook her head, already so disappointed she couldn’t even find herself feeling angry at his accusal. “I had come over cause we were meant to go to dinner that night. You were the one who gave me a key to your house, remember?”
Another step back, and this time Harry’s eyes flashed as he stomped across the room and stood right in front of her. “Why are you slowly stepping further and further away?” he asked her, his voice a low growl. “We need to talk about this. You can’t just decide to leave.”
Bella swallowed back the lump in her throat and looked away from him, her eyes landing on her shoes as she tried to draw up enough courage to say what she needed to say.
“This isn’t working, Harry,” she told him.
“What do you mean?” he took a sudden step back, his voice once again back to its normal decibel.
“I mean, I think we need to stop pretending this, whatever this is between us, is working. Your career is always going to be more important to you. I will always be further down that list. I don't even come in second,” she scoffed bitterly, wrapping her arms around her stomach to try and hold herself together as she felt herself fall apart inside.
“What the fuck are you on about, love?” he scoffed right back. “You’re talking rubbish. We’ve known each other our whole lives, no one else works as well as we do.”
“Harry,” Bella sighed, looking up at him once again. “I know.”
“Know what?”
“I’ve known from the start. This thing between us was never real for you.” She lifted a hand and rubbed away the lone tear that had escaped. She hadn’t even felt them building.
“What?” This time Harry took a step back, fear of what Bella was saying and worry about what she was about to reveal, causing his heart to race.
“I heard you talking to Jeff that day over a year ago, before you asked me out. How dating me would be great for your image since we’ve known each other longer than almost anyone else. How dating someone who wasn’t famous would be a better brand for you, to make you more relatable to the fans. How it would make you more endearing,” she spoke, not taking a breath and letting out all the words she’d buried deeper and deeper in her chest for the last year of her life. “I’d hoped maybe, just maybe that you’d fall in love with me too. I thought maybe when you gave me a key to your place it meant that you cared just a little. But I was wrong. And I don’t blame you,” she continued. “It was my fault. I knew what I was getting into and I did it anyway.”
“Bella,” Harry paused and took a deep breath then started again. “I…fuck. I should have told you from the start,” he began, hating the heartbroken look on her face. “But you have to know that I do-”
“Don’t,” Bella stopped him, anger written all over her face. “Don’t lie to me,” she told him. “Not anymore.”
“Did you even realise that I also got the email Jeff sent to you and your management and PR team?” she asked him.
“No,” Harry looked horrified, feeling sick at the reminder of the words he’d read and the words he’d typed back, hitting reply all in the email.
“Yes,” Bella said sadly. “So I’m saving you the trouble. Here’s my key,” she placed it on the coffee table by the door where Harry had thrown his own keys. “I’ve already told my sister that you won’t be able to make it to her wedding - she said congrats on the Grammy nomination and she hopes you win. So, you don’t have to worry about finding an excuse to - what was it you called it? - an excuse to get out of going to a stuffy event that you didn’t care about?”
Harry flinched at the harsh words he’d used. He remembered being so angry and frustrated that day that he’d been rude in every conversation he’d had, and every email and text he’d sent. Things hadn’t gone right in the studio and he’d taken it out on everyone around him.
“Bella,” he tried again, but she held up a hand.
“Don’t worry, Harry,” she sighed, shoulders dropping in defeat. “Like I said we don’t have to pretend anymore, at least not between us. I know you want to go to the Grammy’s. And I know you want it to go off without a hitch, so I won’t say anything.”
“Say anything?” he repeated, dumbly. “About us being broken up,” she told him, not meeting his eyes.
“Broke-broken up?”
“That’s the next step according to the emails. They all seemed to think I was in on all of this,” she waved her hands around between the two of them. “So they sent me a timeline of when and how we were to break up and all the things I was and wasn’t allowed to say about it.”
“They did what?” Harry asked, and when she looked up at him he looked furious.
“Yeah,” Bella reached into her bag and pulled out a crumpled up piece of paper with a list of instructions on it. She handed it over to Harry. “I- I thought you would have helped come up with these.”
Harry was silent for a couple of minutes, reading down the list, his jaw clenching and unclenching as his fingers tightened on the edges. “I would never come up with anything like this,” he told her, looking up. His eyes were pleading with her to believe him. But Bella just shrugged and looked away, and Harry didn’t think his heart had ever ached this much in his life. “It still doesn’t matter,” she told him.
“Of course it matters!” He hissed. “No one told me about this shit,” he waved the paper at her.
Bella smiled a little bitterly, her eyes once again looking so sad. “No one told me about our whole relationship, so I guess that kinda makes two of us.”
He flinched back at her comment and she regretted saying anything. Despite everything, she still didn’t want to hurt him.
“Like I said, it doesn’t matter,” she shut her eyes, counted to ten and then looked back up at him. “I already agreed to all the conditions. You’ll go to the Grammy’s and win your awards and feel accomplished, and I’ll go to my sister’s wedding and spend the day with my family pretending everything is fine between us. Then a few weeks later, your team will let it slip to the media that we’re going through a rough patch and a couple days later we’ll confirm that we’ve broken up,” she told him, not an ounce of emotion behind her words.
Harry hated it.
“No,” Harry shook his head. “I don’t want to break up.”
“Harry,” Bella sighed, this time sounding exasperated. “Not everything is about what you want.”
“I know that,” he said defensively.
“Then you need to accept that this is happening.”
“You-you want to break up?” he asked her, his chest tight. He couldn't breathe.
Bella shook her head and Harry almost felt a little bit of relief until she spoke again. “I want to be loved,” she said sadly. “And I don’t think you know how to do that.”
She took a step forward and gripped Harry’s hand. “I hope - I hope one day you’ll realise your worth isn’t defined by your success and I hope that one day you’ll be able to let yourself fall in love with someone who makes you forget about the rest of the world enough that you put them first. And I’m sorry that wasn’t me.”
Then she turned and walked out the door, leaving Harry clutching hold of the locket he’d given her. He opened it and stared at the two photos she’d placed inside one night when they’d been cuddled on the couch watching a movie.
The two images stared back at him, teasing him cruelly with the smiling faces of himself and Bella when they were ten. The same smiles were on the other side with a picture of them ten years later when they’d recreated their childhood photo.
He didn’t realise he was crying until a single tear dripped onto the locket.

Helloooo, it’s been a while. A lot has changed in my life so I’ve been a bit busy haha. I would love some feedback tho. I haven’t written anything in over a year so I’m feeling a little rusty. Let me know what y’all think! 🫶🏼

Fëanorians as Taylor Swift Albums
Speak Now: Taylor’s Version is out, so I apologize for the person I’ve become. That being said, here are the Fëanorians as Taylor Swift albums!
Fëanor: Reputation. “Look What You Made Me Do” is practically the Oath of Fëanor, guys. This album combines electrifying love with giving the middle finger to society trying to intrude on that love, which feels very Fëanor to me. (Plus, he would absolutely fight other versions of himself in order to prove himself as the supreme Fëanor.)
Nerdanel: Red. I have to give Nerdanel the album about heartbreak – and the catharsis that comes with writing a ten-minute song about it. The highs and lows of Nerdanel’s life? She remembers them all too well. Red also contains some of Taylor’s most well-regarded music, and I think Nerdanel would appreciate that, as an artist herself.
Maedhros: Midnights. Let’s face it, Maedhros has had more than 13 sleepless nights. And this album has “Anti-Hero” and “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” which are hardcore Maedhros songs. But I’d like to think Mae finds joy in life, and that’s what Midnights is about – being almost surprised that in the end, you’ve stumbled upon happiness.
Maglor: Folklore. This one has to go to Maglor for the intricate songwriting, ocean vibes, and the line I can go anywhere I want/ Anywhere I want, just not home. Plus, this was a triumphant Grammy win for Taylor – and Maglor deserves a Grammy, too. :’)
Celegorm: 1989! Celegorm needs an album to rival his energy, so why not one filled with some of Taylor’s biggest hits? “Bad Blood” and “Out of the Woods” were made for Celegorm: the son of Fëanor, the hunter, the lover of life, and everything in between. Tyelko’s got a blank space, baby, and he’ll write your name.
Caranthir: Speak Now. Here are some of Taylor’s fiercest songs, perfect for the Fëanorian who can get a little angry sometimes. Let Caranthir listen to pop rock! Also, the fairy tale themes of this album suit him; I’d like to think that he dreams of a happy ending with Haleth. Maybe he even gets it. Long live the walls we crashed through, y’all.
Curufin: Evermore goes to Curufin, who’s thoughtful and intense all at once. He’s a clever craftsman, and here is a cohesive album where every song is a little melancholy, feral, and maybe even joyful. I can see Curufin listening to “Evermore,” hoping for the moment when his own pain will end.
Amrod: Fearless! Whether or not you agree with the crispy Amrod theory, there’s no denying that Amrod (and his twin) have a good amount of fearlessness. There are a lot of songs in this album about youth, such as “Fifteen,” which suit a young Fëanorian trying to navigate Middle Earth. It’s even more stressful than high school.
Amras: Taylor Swift. What else could I give the youngest brother? Sometimes Amras might feel overshadowed by his siblings, but there’s no denying it: he’s a powerhouse, too. So here’s the album that contains Taylor Swift’s first hits, like “Tim McGraw” and “Teardrops on My Guitar.” Also, I think Amras would appreciate a good country ballad.
Celebrimbor: Lover. Celebrimbor is a cheerful person who truly loves his life in Ost-in-Edhil. He’s also an expert smith, so Taylor’s first self-owned album, the product of a lot of hard work, is one that I think Celebrimbor would appreciate. And we’ve got to give him the happy ending of “Daylight.” I just think that you are what you love.

i keep listening to FOB's so much (for) stardust and it makes me think about rockstar!Eddie x singer!reader who come up into fame around the same time and have a great relationship until it all comes crashing down (Eddie picking fame over her kind of thing) and reader releases an album that kind of goes through the feelings she had over the year they were together and how the world made her feel, the ups and downs and it's emotional and angry and very silver springs Stevie Nicks and the Grammy's roll around and she's performing and someone at Eddie's table is like "Well damn, I wouldn't want to be the guy that wronged her" and Eddie's like 😬
oh to sing a Silver Springs-esque song dedicated to the one who has hurt you so <3333 and accepting your Grammy with a cheeky "here's to the next heartbreak!" speech and a big wink to camera. and Eddie's fidgeting with his tie that his stylist forced him into bc he's feeling so hot under the collar and the dirty looks that he's getting from the tables around really aren't helping. very aware that there's also a camera on him trying to catch any slip up so he's just sitttin' like 😐
and maybe he goes outside for a smoke later to get away from it all, but runs into you, leaned up against the cold cement wall, your custom-made Versace dress lookin' like you were poured into. he can't help but stare as you blow a cloud of smoke his way in mild greeting. and god it's grinding his gears more than it should that you're so casual about seeing him again bc it's kinda eating him alive!!! (which u know and take full advantage of!!)
he manages to congratulate you, lighting up a cig himself, and you're gracious and shrug lightly saying "thanks for the help. wouldn'ta had it in me to write those lyrics if you hadn't broken my heart." and then you're sliding past him back into the warmth of the afterparty and he's left with a chilly wind biting into his slacks and the smell of ur perfume hanging in the air :'))))))))

analyzing each back cover
i love you its ruining my life
shes saying out right that the person shes in love with is simultaneously ruining her life. we can infer that this is most likely YB wanting a quiet life and her not being able to give that, and him wanting her to be little and small. this came at the grammy’s where she got to be big and bejewel
you don’t get to tell me about sad
shes saying that the person shes presumably arguing with cant tell her about her feelings and mental health. this may be referencing the feelings of sadness that depression (something we know that taylor has struggled with at least at one point while writing midnights, see anti hero) brings. this was announced in Melbourne after singing red (a song about the different sides of love, the good happy side and the angry aftermath) but before singing your losing me (a song most likely about joe alwyn and her having a slow decay in their relationship)
am i aloud to cry?
the first and only punctuated back cover. shes asking someone most likely her partner or herself if she can cry. she is obviously upset, most likely very angry or very sad about something and wants to cry and let it pass. this was anounced affter singing HYGTG (asumably because killatrav was in attendance) and before signing a mash up of white horse (about relizing someone isnt what you thought they were) and coney island (a song where the narator is wondering where their partner went) with sabrina carpenter.
old habits die screaming
this is talking about how the habit (maybe the habit is a person) begins trying to come back but it is already dead. the habit may be the relationship or the habit may be symbolic for YB. the habit died screaming trying to get the person making the statement (presumably taylor) to come back to it. this was announced affter playing a mashup of long story short (a song about how journey may seem long but youll survive) and the story of us (a story about a relationship that went bad) and before playing a mashup of clean (a song about a relationship that your finally done and over with that you wont go back to) and evermore (a song about hope and taking things day by day at your worst just to get through something, also has references to 2016).
Cover art
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can see that as the varients go on the color gets darker and the covers get less of that closed off sexiness. you see she goes from the closed off sexiness in the first cover with her hand on her head (seprate note please get taylor advil, she looks like she needs it) to slowly losing that closed of sexiness and while still having time to on the front of the first on the back shes just in a bra and sweat pants, most likely exhausted(physically and mentally) and just trying to get by.
TLDR
the covers get increasingly sad and show the decay of a relationship, and the words get more gut wrenching

I’m feeling a little spicy this morning so I’m sorry if I say something wrong, but this shit is really eating me. And it’s part of the reason why I don’t mess with Twitter anymore. So of course, the Grammys were last night and everybody’s talking about it. I don’t really watch awards shows like that but from what I could tell, Beyoncé got nominated and didn’t win, loss to harry styles??? idk nor do I care. Everybody’s all on the timeline, ranting about how it’s an injustice and it’s wrong and this that and the third, right? Which, fair enough, they fuck my sis over every year. They nominate her for views and give it to some subpar nobody who probably didn’t do half her sales. That’s cool or whatever but I can’t help but be over the entire conversation. And this is no shade to Bey bc I love her and I loved Renaissance. With that being said, I couldn’t give a fuck less about these celebrities’ problems when our world is falling apart. I can’t give a fuck if she got 32 Grammies instead of 33 when people can’t even afford to pay rent this month or even buy a fucking carton of eggs. I know this comes off as “fake woke” and fuck it, so be it. But I can’t understand how people are so complicit with our country’s conditions and simultaneously putting these celebs and trivial problems up on a pedestal. Now just two days ago, people were badgering Netflix about the whole password sharing thing and they got them to change it, last night, people were tweeting the Grammys like they had killed their grandmas, cussing them out on behalf of a woman who doesn’t even know they exist. I mean, full on doing the most. And ykw, it is bullshit. But ykw else is bullshit? The fact that billions of dollars went to another country without any semblance of explanation, food shortages everywhere, income having to be three times your rent and not a single job is actually hiring, not to mention the fact that people are getting pennies back in income tax despite paying higher rates this year and the police being funded $1.8 billion and their only skill is killing unarmed black people..no one is getting angry enough about it! Just making memes and moving the fuck on. But god forbid an already accomplished woman loses an award and y’all wanna burn the world down. It’s really frustrating bc imagine if we filtered that outage towards our leaders and made them get off their asses. We might actually get somewhere but your only concern is if you can afford $1500 concert tickets? Be so undeniably fucking for real. I’m not trying to tell anybody how to feel and ik thinking about this stuff too much can become depressing so it’s best not to dwell on it but I just can’t see why if folks can bully a multi billion dollar corporation out of their policy then why can’t we demand a better way of living? I’m just sick of this trivial nonsense being on the forefront of everyone’s minds when we’re literally in hell. Idk man, I think I need to stay off of Twitter for a minute bc that just aggravated me.

i personally can’t stop thinking about popstar!gf performing vampire or smth at the grammys to kind of “end” that era and she maybe announces late that grammys night she’s going to release Tortured Poets Department. (especially with how the tides seem to be turning on taylor, there seems to have been a huge shift in public opinion almost??)
this is gonna become her darker era. while maybe guts was the anger, TPD is the sadness, the acceptance, the moving on. the making fun of exes. i think guts came out before or just as she’s meeting hasan. then while she’s hanging out with hasan and just living the single life, thinking back on how STUPID things were. how she let someone dull her sparkle, someone who wanted her not be a singer/songwriter (cue song “my boy only breaks his favourite toys” and “i can do it with a broken heart” or “the smallest man who ever lived”)
hasan helps her heal and move past that awful relationship, someone she maybe gave a few years of her life to, she’s no longer angry, she’s understanding how badly she was affected and now is gonna poke fun at him. (side note: apparently joe alwyn who is taylor’s ex, had a group chat with some friends called the tortured man club, so in this scenario, popstars ex has one and she’s 100% making fun of it)
and while she’s beginning to work on reputation before even releasing this (she’s already written things like call it what you want and delicate, etc) when TPD releases her fans go crazy for it but the media is gonna eat her alive. basically anything people are criticizing taylor for (that’s not actually valid) is how things are happening for her.
people calling her a snake, trying to cancel her, etc etc etc etc.
which THISSSS leads into the reputation era. she’s not trying to be seen by anybody. they want her gone so bad? fine. say no more. she’s an attention seeker because she lets the charities she works with publicize that she’s helping out? (even though she’s just wanting to drive more eyes to that cause) fine, she’ll stop being public, donate anonymously and move on.
and even avoids the spotlight anytime hasan is in it. she’s not trying to be on stream or the pod, no tiktok’s, no reacts, no instagrams, nothing. hasan will mention her in passing. if someone asks if she’s okay, he assures everyone she’s doing alright, they’re still together and very happy together, she’s just going through some stuff so leave her alone.
not seen for at least almost a year. she deletes socials, just tries to focus on writing and building her relationship with hasan, reading, working on her craft. plotting revenge.
after a longgg time. she’s back. she surprise drops the entire album with no explanation. (because , THERE WILL BE MORE EXPLANATION, THERE WILL JUST BE REPUTATION!) and the internet is going up in FLAMES. chat is CRAZY.
because she’s really coming for everyone on it:
-i don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me! i’ll be the actress starring in your bad dreams!
-so i took an axe to a mended fence
-this ain’t for the best, my reputations never been worse so you must like me for me
-the world moves on, another day another drama drama, but not for me , not for me all i think about is karma! and then the world moves on but one things for sure!!! maybe i got mine but!! you’ll!! all!! get !!! yours!!
like literally look what everyone made her do!!!!!!!!!
but also at the end of the day, it’s a love album. because when nobody was standing by her, hasan was.
-even in my worst times, you could see the best of me
-even in my worst lies, you saw the truth in me

The way I know I can't much to this becuase God is it great.
I'm so happy that we were thinking the same thing about album progression with popstar!gf. Rep immediately after Guts seemed a bit weird, but to have TPD be in the middle of of them fits in just right.
As for the the ex who dulled her spark. I'm almost thinking someone who wanted to be married, like they've been together for about a year or two, and he just goes for it. He mentions that he wants her to be a little house wife, and doesn't want her writing anymore music or performing for any reason. Obviously, our girl said no.
But yes, TPD is all about her acceptance with how unbelievably dumb she was for letting man do ever he did to her. It's about just how messy that relationship was. And just how below her, and everyone really, her ex is. So yeah, TDP has moments where it gets petty and it's just belittling him a bit, becuase why wouldn't it.
And that's why people start calling her a snake, and trying to cancel her. She gets in details on the album, she goes into details while in interviews, and people men don't understand how she could be so blunt about her experiences with her ex. They don't why she would ever make fun of someone she dated in such a public way.
And that is how Rep goes from her only album to have song about how che loves someone, to essentially a revenge album.

"It’s been hard for Joe trying to make it in Hollywood and not quite becoming leading man material while dating one of the most famous women in the world over the last six years."
So this is what Toe's team is pushing and I wish her fans now realize how this man was using her since day one. Like to paint her as "overshadowing" him and being this really "monster on the hill" too big for him type of woman is really disgusting to me.
It seems like they tried and TRIED to get him somewhere, but he failed and Grammy gate was the most desperate try to make him relevant, but this also failed catastrophically. Now he is all pouty and angry trying to paint the picture she is "too much".
Literally this is Taylor's biggest fear in ALL her songs. That her fame affects her relationship. Now where's the angel boyfriend who has a very "normal" life and doesn't care about Taylor's fame. To say he was more okay with her during the pandemic is soooooo awful and weird.
How quickly did he turn on her now? Lmao. Also, the fact that if he was really that madly in love with her and this very "healthy" partner, he would've never found her success an issue or like a shadow that is dimming his light.
On the other hand, people called Karlie all kinds of names for "using" Taylor, yet she NEVER dragged her name in any of her projects in any way, shape or form. The hypocrisy.

A bunch of people asked questions and I quickly took the mic from Julie "Holograms." Julie quickly nodded her head agreeing with me while saying "Yes! Yes, they were holograms." She swung an arm around me while pointing to the projector up top "(Y/n), plugged it into the ceiling projector before the show." I sent her a confused look and whispered "Why me?" Only for her to respond with "Because this was your plan now live with it." I rolled my eyes at her response.
I sent the crowd a fake smile as Julie took her arm off me "I'd explain it, but it involves algorithms and science stuff. "I said as the crowd cheered and applauded for the second time that night.
The stomping of feet on steps grabbed my attention as I looked over only to see Reggie shaking his butt in front of everyone. He looked over at me, sending me a smile and wave. I just rolled my eyes in response and crossed my arms a crossed my chest while bringing my attention back to the crowd.
"Ok people, shows over."
Principal Lessa stated, turning the crowd around "Let's get back to class, please." Everyone turned around and started to walk off, I noticed Reggie trying to talk to the girl he winked at as he followed her and Carrie. I looked in front of me, only to see Mrs. Harrison, deciding to focus on her instead.
"Mrs. Harrison, we're so sorry for not asking for permission."
Julie said as I let out a small laugh the two of us sat on the edge of the stage "You are, I'm not." She was quick to hit my arm in response and send me a small glare as if to say 'shut up' causing me to let out a light laugh.
Julie went back to talking to Mrs. Harrison "We just wanted to show you that I belong here." Mrs. Harrison shook her head "As amazing as that was, your spot's already been filled by another student." She gestured to a boy coming off the stage carrying a giant cello case. I winced as the bottoms of the case kept banging on the steps as he went down them.
'That poor instrument.'
"Come on, that thing is way too big for him!"
I nodded my head in agreement as Mrs. Harrison shook her head a little "He'll grow into it. I wish that I could help you, but my hands are tied." I noticed Principal Lessa, walking over to us as she stated "Mine aren't, and as much as I didn't approve of this little stunt that you two pulled, I will not go down in history as the principal who kicked Julie Molina out of the music program." I smiled and bumped Julie's shoulder with my own.
Julie let out a relieved chuckle while saying "Thank you!" Principal Lessa stuck up a finger "But... when you win your first Grammy, I wanna be thanked." Mrs. Harrison let out a small chuckle as Julie nodded her head "Definitely." Mrs. Harrison told her "thank you" and Principal Lessa turned around and walked away, Mrs. Harrison was quick to engulf the two of us in a hug.
"Congratulations!"
She stated, proud of both of us once she broke the hug she stated to Julie "Welcome back." Before walking off. I looked past Mrs. Harrison, only to see a confused Flynn. 'Ah, crap.' Julie was quick to hop off the stage and walk over to Flynn as I traveled close behind. "Wow. You did it." I could tell Flynn's angry switch has been flicked as Julie responded with "Thanks to you." She nodded her head in response, and I was slowly about to walk away, only for Julie to grab my arm to keep me there.
"Hey you okay?"
Julie asked Flynn only for Flynn to shake her head a little "Uh... I'm great." With a shrug of her shoulders, she pointed to the stage while asking "When did you two start playing with a hologram band?" Julie was quick to dismiss it "Oh, it was just one song." And I added onto her statement "We're not a band." Julie added on some more "They're a band, a hologram band. Definitely holograms." I shoved my hands in my pockets.
"Yeah I saw. Why have you two been keeping those cute boys a secret?"
"There's a reason for that." I stated, not wanting to make this a huge deal "The reason we didn't tell you is because they're-" Julie was quick to cut me off "From Sweden! They're from Sweden. Yeah. Turns out that they're not only great at making meatballs but also good at making music." I sent her a confused look, as did Flynn. Julie moved her arms around making gestures with her hands while explaining "They play there, We stream them here, we play together, they leave, then that's it." She clapped her hands together "Anyway, who's excited that I'm back in the music program?" Putting her arms out and then bringing them back for jazz hands.
Flynn narrowed her eyes at Julie "Jules are you Lying to me?" She looked over at me while asking "Is she lying to me?" I scrunched my nose up a bit as I was suddenly put on the spot "Uhh... well... um..." I said in a high pitched voice, looking everywhere but at Flynn. She scoffed and looked back at Julie, and she answered honestly.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm lying."
Flynn was now upset as she asked the both of us "Since when do we lie to each other?" Julie sighed "Flynn.... I'm sorry." She scoffed in response " 'I'm sorry'? That's all you've got?" Julie stayed silent as Flynn scoffed and ran out of the gym. Julie followed close behind.
"Wait! Flynn! Wait, no! Come... wait. Come on. Flynn!"
I sighed and went back on stage to grab my guitar. Sitting back down on the edge of the stage, strumming my guitar. I hummed to myself as the bell was soon to ring. I stood up on the stage and went to walk off while playing my guitar only for the boys to appear in front of me, causing me to bump into Reggie's chest.
I was quick to step back, feeling a blush make its way to my cheeks. Looking around, I noticed the gym empty, so I turned back to talk to the guys. "Aren't you guys supposed to be bothering Jules?" I walked passed them, only for the three of them to follow. "Well, Julie's in class and we were hoping to get some answers from you." Luke stated.
I rolled my eyes while moving my guitar to sit on my back. "Listen, I'm just as lost as you guys. There is only one other ghost who can actually be seen by people, and I wouldn't like to go to him for answers." I traveled down the steps and off the stage, only for the three of them to appear in front of me again, causing me to stop.
"Please (Y/n), there's gotta be something you can give us."
Alex asked, practically begging me, I looked between the three of them before letting out an annoyed sigh. "There is one thing I could probably do, but it's in my room. Lucky for you, I was planning on ditching anyway." Reggie sent me a wide smile while responding with "Awesome. We'll meet you there!" I glared at him "Reggie stay out of-" before I could even finish the sentence, he put his arms around his friends shoulders and the three of them disappeared.
"-my room."
I let out a long exasperated sigh before marching off through the gym doors.
'If they touch anything I'll make sure they die a second time.'
♬♩♪♩♬♩♪♩♬♩👻 ♪♩♬♩♪♩♬♩♪♩
Once I got home I parked my truck and hopped out, only to see Reggie leaning back in the chair on the porch, feet up on the railing as he strummed his bass. I walked up the porch causing Reggie to take his feet off the railing once he noticed me, a smile making its way to his lips, he stood up and put his bass on his back. "Hey (Y/n)!" I walked past him, to unlock the door, but didn't respond to him.
The scene from earlier still playing in my head, causing my stomach to churn. 'I shouldn't be acting like this. Hell, I shouldn't be feeling like this.' Reggie leaned against the wall by the door  his brows furrowed in confusion as he tried again to get me to talk to him.
"Hey, you okay?"
I let out a sigh before pushing everything that happened, to the back of my head, as to not think about it. Looking over at him I sent him a small smile "Yeah I'm fine." He only gave me an unconvinced look in response.
Opening his mouth to say something, only for Luke to appear behind him "Hey is she-" cutting himself off when he saw me, he put a hand on Reggie's shoulder. Reggie looked back at him a bit angry for interrupting, only for his mood to change completely as he sent Luke a smile. "Great. She's here. Listen (Y/n), Alex kind of ran off." Reggie nodded in agreement before turning his head back to look at me.
"Yeah, he was all stressed and poofed away."
I shrugged in response while opening the door to my house. The two boys behind me followed as I walked inside, not wanting the door to close shut on their faces (even though they could walk right through it). Tossing my bag to the side, I looked from the dinning room to the right of us, to the stairs in front of us, and lastly my eyes drifted to the empty living room to the left of us.
"Home, sweet home."
I mumbled as Luke walked passed the two of us in aw. "Woah...." he stated as he looked around the giant place that is my house. Going over to the couch with a giant smile he continued "This place is huge!" Throwing his arms up in emphasis, he flopped back across the couch. Reggie nodded his head in agreement, while shoving his hands in his pants pockets. "Yeah (N/N), What are your parents, rich?" he followed Luke into the living room, eyes glued to the giant TV.
I shrugged before making my way towards the stairs in front of me "Don't call me that. And yeah, I guess you could say that. But it doesn't matter anyway." I started climbing up the steps to my room. As soon as I stepped up onto the last step, they appeared in front of me, causing me to jump a bit and lean back. I would've fell down the stairs, if it wasn't the quick hand that grabbed my arm, pulling me into his chest.
I leaned back, only to notice the white shirt, beaded necklace, and red and black flannel which belonged to none other than boy I was trying not to focus on. Reggie's hands rested on my biceps to keep me steady, I slowly looked up only for my (e/c) eyes to come in contact with a pair of concerned green ones. "You okay?" he asked, almost to quietly for me to even hear him, I felt heat travel to my cheeks, as I quickly stepped out of his hold sending him a nod of my head.
"Yeah. Fine."
I walked off towards my bedroom door while saying "Stay there." The guys surprisingly listened and didn't follow me into my room. Shutting the door behind me, I leaned my back against it, letting out a small sigh, I stayed there for a few seconds trying to recollect my thoughts and calm myself down from what happened just a few seconds earlier. 'Damn it, (Y/n).' I thought 'Get it together. You just met the guy. Sure, he's cute but I'm not letting him get to me. He's just a dumb flirt.' Lightly shaking my head, I huffed in annoyance, bringing my thoughts to focus on the task at hand.
'The book. I need the book and the box.'
My gaze shifted from the ceiling, to the closet almost directly in the middle of my room. Pushing myself off the door, I slowly made my way to the closet, not wanting to even touch that book. But I needed answers, and I certainly was not about to go to him for help. I wasn't going to let those boys get sucked into things with a man who is more of a demon than a ghost. I slowly slid open both doors to my closet, my eyes staring at the stacks of shoe boxes on the floor, I sat down on my knees, parting the stacks in front of me, only to reveal a secret compartment in the wall hidden behind the stacks of shoe boxes.
A rigid sigh left my lips as I stared at the compartment, an emotional pain sitting in my chest, one I haven't felt in a long time. 'I haven't touched this stuff since..' I cut off my own thoughts before they got to far. I didn't want to think about them. But it was all I could think about whenever I even dared to come near the book. I couldn't help the scared feeling that ran through me as I slowly reached out to open the medium sized compartment.
I froze my hand as the fear took over for a quick second, my hands only a couple of centimeters away from the door-like compartment, but I shook my head a little 'No. I gotta help the guys. Julie will probably be wanting an answer as well.' opening the compartment, I noticed some old candles, some halfway burnt through, others almost gone. Taking out the candles I put them off to the side, before slowly reaching out to grab the two books off of the medium sized box, hearing their screams in my ears, I closed my eyes in response, clenching my fist as the heavy pain in my chest grew.
Unclenching my fists, I opened my eyes, and quickly grabbed the books before I could give myself anymore time to think about it. Looking at the two books in front of me, one black with a purple pentagram on it, my book of spells, the other was an old brown book, seeming to have been around for centuries, the warn out parchment held facts about every ghost my family has ever encountered in it. Much like a diary, whenever someone was handed this book in my family, they would write down every experience with a ghost they had, whether it be good or bad. But only the ones with "The Gift" (as my grandmother calls it) get these books and the box.
If you couldn't tell, "The Gift" is basically being able to see and touch ghosts. It was a tradition for the older witch to teach the new one, and when they were ready, the older one would pass down the torch. My grandmother taught me for a couple of years before she passed, I ended up getting her witch stuff in the will. My parents thought both of us were crazy, so I ended up hiding the stuff from them in the hidden compartment. When I was practicing with my grandmother I understood everything, and was a great witch, but as soon as she was gone, I felt lost. Every spell I tried to cast to help someone back fired, I couldn't do a simple spell, I couldn't help ghosts, I felt useless.
Pushing up my sleeves a little, revealing the dark purple stamp on the inside of my right arm. "Alright.." I mumbled while pulling the old brown book towards me "Let's see if there's anything in here." opening up the book, I skimmed over each page carefully, as to not miss anything. About three pages in, I heard a soft smooth voice next to my ear.
"You find anything?"
I jumped in surprise before rolling my sleeves down and slamming the book closed. Turning my head only to come face to face with Reggie who was currently leaning over my shoulder looking down at the books in front of me. I stared at the side of his face, which was only a couple of inches away from mine, feeling my heart beating out of my chest. 'Come on (Y/n). Get it together.' I thought as I cleared my throat, turning my head to look back down at the books in front of me.
"No..."
Shaking my head I continued "No, I haven't found anything." Luke appeared on the other side of me, sitting crisscross "Woah, what's all this?" He tried to grab the black and purple book, only for his hand to go right through it. Huffing in slight annoyance I stood up abruptly, taking Reggie and Luke both by surprise. Reggie stumbled back, wide eyed, but was quick to catch himself as Luke jumped at my sudden movement.
I turned around with my arms crossed a crossed my chest, an annoyed look on my face. Luke stood up, noticing the annoyed look on my face, and quickly went over to stand beside Reggie. I glared at the two of them while asking "Do either of you ever listen to anything anyone says?" Luke threw an arm over Reggie's shoulders wearing a confident smirk "Never." Rolling my eyes in annoyance from Luke's response, I turned back around and kneeled down in front of the books.
"Can we help?"
Reggie's voice could be heard from behind me, as I opened back up the brown ghost book. "You guys are ghosts." Flipping through the pages to get to the spot I was before, finishing with "So you guys won't be much help." I skimmed through the rest of the third page before flipping it. It went silent for a couple of seconds as I dragged my finger underneath each word on the fourth page, skimming over to see if I could find anything about other people seeing the ghosts.
I heard someone sit down to the left of me, I paused looking out of the corner of my eyes, only to see Reggie sitting to the left of me in a crisscross fashion. Bringing my eyes back to the book in front of me he spoke "So, are you a witch?" I didn't look at him as I continued to skim through the pages of the book. "What makes you think that?" I asked, still not taking my eyes away from my book.
"Well, the fact that you have a black book with a pentagram on it, is very witchy, don't you think?"
I took a quick glance at Reggie, only to see him reaching over to grab the black book. This caused me to widen my eyes and quickly slap his hand. I grabbed the book and put it back on top of the box in the wall compartment. I responded, while going back to looking through the brown book "Yeah, well, I don't do that stuff anymore." I flipped the page, practically feeling Reggie's eyes on me as he asked "Why not?" I looked over at Reggie, only for his green hues to be starring curiously back at mine.
His head was tilted a little, causing some strands of hair to flop over to the side, mouth slightly agape as he took in small breaths of air. Eyes full of curiosity, as he tried his hardest to get to know me even more. Reggie's face easily reminded me of a puppies. The way his head tilted, his mouth slightly agape, but overall curiosity shinning through. As if a puppy was looking at me, not knowing what I was saying but interested anyway, because it loves the attention.
'Cute.'
I thought as I stared at him for a couple of seconds, the couple strands of hair grabbing my attention 'I wonder how it would feel to run my fingers through it...' feeling another blush coat my cheeks from just that thought alone, I tore my eyes away from him. Clearing my throat I looked back down at the book in front of me. Leaning on my hands I glared at the book in front of me, angry at myself, as I responded "Because I just don't." It was silent between us for a couple of seconds.
"Hey (Y/n)?"
Reggie and I both turned to look back near my bed, only to see Luke sitting on it while looking at the picture on my nightstand. "Are these your parents?" Pointing at the picture I held most dear. I nodded my head before turning back to look at the book in front of me. "Yeah, those are my parents." I heard a shuffling noise beside me, only to look over and see Reggie making his way towards the picture.
I watched him as he stopped in front of my bedside table, kneeling down to get a good look at the picture from when I was 8. I suddenly felt a bit self conscious of the picture, closing the book in front of me, I stood up and started to walk over. "Where are they, anyway?" Reggie asked, his gaze still fixated on the picture, as if trying to memorize every little detail.
I quickly snatched the picture off of my nightstand, grabbing both Reggies and Lukes attention, as their eyes now stared at me. "New York." The lie came out of my mouth so naturally at this point, having already said it over 100 times. I've said it so much, that you'd think I'd actually start believing it, that they are both just in New York on a business trip. But I know the truth. Having witnessed it all first hand.
Luke and Reggie looked at each other for a few seconds, as if having a silent conversation of there own. "What are they doing there?" Luke asked, I shrugged in response while walking over to my bureau. "They are on a business trip" I placed the picture gently on my bureau, eyes fixated on it, as thoughts swarmed my head.
'Just keep lying. The only person who needs your baggage is yourself. Don't be a burden.'
Reggie's voice dragged me out of my thoughts "Do they both work for the same company?" I closed my eyes and shook my head a little to bring myself back to the present conversation. Turning back around, only to see Reggie now sitting on my bed, I leaned back on my hands, which sat on top of the bureau "I guess you could say that." I looked over at Reggie, only to see him already staring back at me, brows furrowed seeming unconvinced.
Luke cleared his throat and was quick to change the subject "Well..." Reggie and I's attention was now on Luke, he got off my bed "We, were thinking..." moving his thumb to point at both him and Reggie while stepping in front of me. Reggie got off the bed and walked over next to Luke as he continued "You should join Sunset Curve!" The two of them held giant smiles on there faces, and I let the sentence sink in for a couple of seconds, before letting out a small huff in amusement.
"Yeah, no. I don't do bands."
Reggie rolled his eyes a little taking a few steps forward "Oh come on (Y/n), can't you make an exception?" He brought his hands together and interlocked his fingers, bringing his hands up underneath his chin as to exaggerate his plea. Reggie stuck his bottom lip out in a small pout, his emerald green eyes seeming to grow bigger, as to sway my decision. I let out a small laugh before shaking my head feeling a blush coat my cheeks from how cute Reggie was being "No. I already said I don't do bands." Luke shrugged while throwing his hands in his pockets.
Stepping up next to Reggie he stated "What if we got Julie to join, then will you join too?" I crossed my arm and raised a brow, I was about to respond, only for Luke to cut me off as he continued with "Pretty please?" The two of them now looked at me with the same face with their hands together and fingers interlocked.
I let out a long sigh before rolling my eyes in annoyance "If I say yes, will you two drop it and leave me alone?" The two of them smiled and high fived while saying "Yes!" Reggie's attention was quick to move on to me, pointing at me with his index finger. "But. I will definitely not leave you alone. You're gonna be seeing more of me around here." Reggie sent me a wink at the end of his sentence, a wide smile sat on his face, causing one of my hands to fly up to my mouth as I let out a small giggle in response.
Taking my hand away from my face, I stated "Okay, but make sure to knock. Oh, and don't touch things that are off limits" I stuck out my hand for him to shake and he was quick to take my hand in his own, holding it tightly, while shaking my hand eagerly. "Deal. But, what is the stuff that's off limits?" I let out a small chuckle before shaking my head and pulling my hand back, Reggie seemed to frown at the loss of contact but was quick to bring back his smile.
"You'll figure it out."
Reggie nodded his head, only for Luke to clear his throat. "Well.." Luke stepped up behind Reggie, putting his hands on his shoulders. "As cute as this whole interaction was, Reggie and I are gonna head back over to Julie's." Luke pulled Reggie back, causing him to stumble a bit backwards as Reggie stared at me. I went back over to the two books in front of my open closet and sat down in front of them.
Luke started to drag him out the door before Reggie stopped "Wait!" I looked over towards the two boys in the doorway, only for my (e/c) eyes to come in contact with a pair of forest green ones. "Would you like to come with us?" Reggie asked hopefully, I sent him a small smile, along with a shake of my head. "I would love to, but I can't. Julie's dad thinks I'm at school right now, so I'd rather not ruin my chances of skipping." Reggie nodded his head "Gotcha" he stated as Luke dragged him back out.
"Come on."
Luke stated as a giggle of amusement left my lips, causing me to shake my head, amused at Reggie's behavior. I turned my head back around to look down at the open brown book in front of me. 'Okay (Y/n)...' I thought as I flipped to the next page, and started skimming over it.

"I'm done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom, I'm taking an axe to the tree. The rot at the roots is the root of the problem, But you wanna blame it on me." - the tree, maren morris
“They want me to do what?” Dex had to clarify, hear the words one more time just to be sure. He was holding his phone close to his ear, clutching it, really, as he sat on the couch, fingers ice cold.
Marla, his manager, was always confident and collected. She was kind when needed, and firm when needed. A stronghold of a ship in any storm. Yet, she was hesitant as she repeated herself, “He’s receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CMA’s this year. They want you to be part of the big honorary presentation. Ideally, they’d love for you to be one of the performers that sings one of his songs.”
The CMA’s. the Grammys for Country Music. The biggest event of the year. Growing up, the month of October was often overshadowed with award show prep and press for his father for the November event. Dex had even walked the red carpet a few times himself. There was always some sort of big achievement award. Lifetime or Decade or Icon. The wording changed but it didn’t matter. The presentation was always the same. A group of just as famous artists would take turns singing the songs of whoever the award was going to, honoring them, their legacy, and their contribution to the genre. It was always touching. And easy marketing fodder. Of course they wanted him to come back, of course they knew it’d made for a great story; The wayward son returning home. It felt almost as pandering as their desperate Taylor Swift jokes each year. If they couldn’t get Taylor, maybe they could get Dex Finley to come out of retirement for his father.
His ears were ringing. Ever since he got to New Athens it felt like Dex had been planting roots, growing stronger and surer of himself everyday, shedding all the old leaves and branches and growing them back anew. But, there were still a few stragglers, branches he was scared to let go of just yet. He knew this one would come back to bite him eventually, he’d just hoped maybe it’d take a few more years.
“And it’d fit perfectly with the timing of the single dropping.” Dex said quietly, a stoic wiseness in his voice as he rubbed his temple. It’d been almost a year now, quietly working, head down, happily lost in the throws and joys of his own creativity. He’d signed with a record label, with mild murmurs and fanfare across the internet at the news. And between subtle weekend trips to LA, quiet zips into New York City, and working with Carly producing in his own makeshift studio, a full album was about eighty percent finished. The first single had been picked out and was planned to be released in November. Then based on the response, some small pop up shows come the new year, and the album in early Spring.
“Yes.” Marla continued, putting her manager voice back on, “It’d be a perfect little bow to send off the last of your old image you’re trying to shed, while also being a perfect first performance for a comeback. The two of you don’t need to fully make up, or for you to even like it, but it’d do the job.” Despite being on the phone, she lowered her voice like it was a secret, “But, you and I both know you don’t have to say yes. We can find plenty of other promo for the single rollout instead. I’d just be remiss if I didn’t at least pass the invitation along.”
Dex sunk into the couch. “Does he know about this? Or is this just some Producer-induced idea for ratings?”
“He had to okay the list of possible performers and make any adjustments before they reached out. So…yes. He’d know you’re an option.”
Thinking about his father always left a twisting, uneasy feeling in his stomach. Keith Finley was never an angry man. He was known for a lot of things: his iconic love songs, his signature white cowboy hat, his passionate love for University of Texas football, but anger wasn’t one of them. Dex had never heard his voice go above a concerned, slightly raised tone. He was the reason Dex was an insufferable hopeless romantic, why he knew how to cook, and he'd kiss every cut and scrape Dex endured before putting a bandaid on it. The first lesson he taught Dex upon becoming famous was to always say thank you, even to the smallest of helpers, and always remember their names if you could. Dex had looked up to him, and more than anything, he taught him how to be kind, respectful, and generous. Which is why his slow descent into whatever he was now felt all the more jarring.
However, he’d been unusually silent the past six months. What once was an ignorant social media post or Twitter rant every few months was now a sight nowhere to be seen. Dex guessed he’d gotten a new Publicist who finally took his accounts away from him. But either way, it still left him uneasy, unable to gauge what this meant or how it might go. At least the bigoted behavior was steady and reliable.
He realized too late that he was already chewing on his lip, leaving it chapped and raw. “Who’s said yes so far?”
“Uh,” He heard her rustling some papers. Marla rattled off a list of names that made Dex squint, skeptical. Dex’s godparents were to be expected, but everyone else? Very opposite of his right wing, conservative home base. It reeked of a desperate, PR re-branding. A narrative he was unsure about contributing to.
But, something small in the back of his heart tugged ever so slightly. The stupidest, tiniest sliver of hope. Dex held his breath, then exhaled.
“I’ll do it.”

Is This God's Way of Testing Me? Chapter 1
Set after the ending of PP3. After staying in Paris with Chicago for six months, Chloe comes back to the U.S. pregnant and alone. She goes straight to L.A. and Beca. Beca of course takes her in and promises to help raise Chloe's baby since Chicago wanted nothing to do with either one of them. Chloe's daughter, Sophie, is born, and a few months later, Beca and Chloe reveal their romantic feelings for each other. They got married when Sophie was one year old.
They've been married for two years, and things are going great until Chloe's past comes back to haunt her. Will Beca and Chloe's marriage remain strong or will this be the beginning of the end for them?
Warning: Some angst to start us off (and probably more before all is said and done).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beca sat in her office, staring at the wall. She should be on top of the world, but things were not going so well for the brunette. She'd won several Grammys over the last five years and was getting to produce more and more, but her career was not the problem. The problems she was having were at home. She thinks back to three days ago. It was just a typical Tuesday for Beca, or so she thought.
"I'm home," Beca called out as she entered the house. She smiled when she heard the patter of tiny feet that came to greet her.
"Mama!" 3-year-old Sophie called out as she jumped into Beca's arms.
"Hey, Soph," Beca said and then peppered the young girl's face with kisses. "Where's mommy?"
"Kitchen," Sophie said, then lowered her voice. "I think she's mad."
"Why do you think that?" Beca whispered back.
"She's got her not happy face on," Sophie said quietly.
"Oh," Beca said, worry lining her face. "Can you go play in the playroom? I'm going to go talk to mommy, okay?"
"Okay," Sophie said, and Beca set her down on the floor. Sophie went running off to the playroom.
Beca let out a heavy sigh and made her way to the kitchen. When she got near the door, she could hear Chloe muttering to herself. Beca looked in and saw Chloe at the stove with her back to Beca. Beca walked up behind her and put her arms around Chloe's waist. Well, she tried, but as soon as Chloe felt her presence, she pushed Beca's arms away from her.
"Don't," Chloe said.
"What's going on, Chlo?" Beca asked. "Sophie said you had your not happy face on."
"Don't pretend like you don't know," Chloe said.
"What now?" Beca asked with a heavy sigh. "Did I leave the cap off the toothpaste again? Or maybe I left a dirty cup in the sink?"
"Don't be a smartass, Beca," Chloe spat at her. She pushed past Beca and picked up a magazine from the counter. She shoved it into Beca's chest and said, "Page 7."
Beca took the magazine and really started to get angry. She threw the magazine in the trash without looking at it. Chloe stood there with her arms crossed in front of her and just glared at Beca.
"Really?" Beca said, trying to hold her temper. "Chlo, this has to stop. I don't know what's been going on with you these past few months, but why are you suddenly worried about some garbage you read about me in a magazine?"
Chloe retained her stance and didn't say anything.
"So, you're going to stick with being mad at me again. And what for? Because of a magazine article? I can only assume that it says I've hooked up with someone who isn't you. Or maybe I'm leaving you for someone else. Or, my favorite is the one where I'm fucking Theo. Good to know you trust me after all this time."
Chloe remained silent. She went to the stove and turned her back on Beca. Beca held her tongue and walked out of the kitchen. She went to the playroom and kissed Sophie on the top of her head.
"I have to go out for a while, Soph," Beca told her daughter. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"You coming back?" Sophie asked.
"Of course, I'm coming back," Beca said. "I promise I will always come back. Mommy and I just need to calm down. I'll be back. I promise, okay?"
"Okay," Sophie said and smiled. "I bewieve you 'cause you always keep your pwomises."
"That's my girl," Beca said and gave her a hug. "I'll see you later. I love you."
"I wuv you, too," Sophie said.
Beca left the house, thinking it was better to just walk away instead of starting another fight with Chloe. She drove around until she found herself at Venice Beach. She parked and walked along the beach for a while before sitting down and just staring out at the ocean. She let the tears fall freely as she thought about her and Chloe. She didn't know how much more she could take of Chloe's accusations that she was cheating on her or that she wanted to.
Beca made her way back home around midnight. She quietly let herself into the house and checked on Sophie before she made her way to her and Chloe's bedroom. She opened the door and walked in only to find an empty bed. She furrowed her brow and checked the guest room. There she found Chloe curled up asleep.
Beca swallowed the lump that was in her throat and walked over to the bed. She got in the bed and put her arms around Chloe.
"Chloe," Beca said softly. "Chloe, wake up, please."
Chloe woke up and turned to Beca, nestling her head under Beca's chin.
"I'm sorry," Chloe mumbled against Beca's neck.
"I know," Beca said sadly. "I think you should go sleep in our room. It's late. I'll stay here so I don't disturb you when I have to get up for work."
Chloe pulled back with tears in her eyes. "Beca, no," she said. "I don't want that."
"I think I need it for tonight," Beca said. "We can talk more tomorrow when I get home from work. But for now, we both just need to get some sleep."
Beca let go of Chloe and climbed off the bed. Chloe sat up and just looked at Beca as tears ran down her face. "Please, Chloe. Just for tonight?"
Chloe nodded her head and got off the bed. She leaned in to give Beca a kiss and Beca moved her head and the kiss landed on her cheek. Chloe sniffled and left the room. Beca got back into the bed and laid there for a bit before she finally fell asleep.
Since then, Beca has spent several nights in the guest bedroom; she was still undecided on if she even wanted to move back into her and Chloe's shared room.
"Beca?" A voice slowly penetrated through her brain. "Beca!"
Beca turned to see her best friend, Stacie, standing in front of her. She was so far into her own head that she had forgotten she was giving Stacie a ride home since her car was in the shop.
"Are you okay?" Stacie asked.
"What? Oh, yeah," Beca said. She frowned when Stacie handed her some tissue until she realized she was crying. "Thanks." Beca took the tissue and wiped her eyes and down her face.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Stacie asked.
The tears fell faster and Beca cleared her throat before she started speaking. It was like a dam was opened as she talked about how Chloe had been on edge for several months now but wouldn't tell Beca what was bothering her. She also told Stacie how Chloe seemed to be more jealous over nothing but pictures and innuendos that were written about her being seen with other people. She swore to Stacie that she hadn't cheated on Chloe and would never do that, but Chloe still would come at her over some stupid photos and media stories. It was like she was using those stories to pick a fight so they wouldn't talk about what was really going on.
"I don't know how much more I can take," Beca said quietly. "I have done everything to prove to Chloe that I love her and only her. I make sure I'm home by six for dinner every night. We try to have date nights at least once a week. I'm so tired because I don't know when she's going to pick another fight."
Stacie knew Beca had more to say so she just sat and waited for her to continue. Beca wiped her face and began talking again.
"A couple of days ago she started again over some magazine article," Beca said. "I didn't even read it. I just left to cool off. When I came home she was asleep in the guest room. I went in to check on her and she said she was sorry. She's always sorry but she'll do it again when another story or picture comes out. I told her that I needed space and that she should go back to our room while I stayed in the guest room. I told her it was just for that night, but I've been sleeping in the guest room since."
"Is that what you want?" Stacie asked softly.
"Yes," Beca said. "No. Maybe. I don't even know anymore. I haven't really been sleeping. And when I go home Chloe doesn't say much to me. We only talk about things Sophie needs or what bill needs to be paid. It's like we don't even know how to be just us anymore. I don't know what I have to do to get her to trust me."
"It's Friday night, Stacie said. "Brey and I will watch Sophie so you can take Chloe out on an impromptu date. How does that sound?"
"I don't know if that's a good idea," Beca said.
"Surprise her," Stacie said. "Make her feel special. Take her out and show her she's the only one for you."
Beca thought a minute and then slowly smiled. "Okay," she told Stacie. "If you're sure it's okay with Aubrey."
"I'll call her now," Stacie said. "And, I'll have her meet me at your house. That way you and Chloe can leave when you're ready."
~Is this God's Way of Testing Me?~
"Chloe?" Beca called out as she and Stacie entered the house. "I have a surprise for you."
"Mama!" Sophie squealed as she ran to Beca. Beca grabbed her up in a hug and kissed her on the cheek. "Aunt Tacie!"
"Hey, Soph," Stacie said and tickled the girl causing her to squeal and squirm out of Beca's arms.
"Where's mommy?" Beca asked as she set Sophie down.
"Your room," Sophie said.
"Okay," Beca said as she knelt to talk to Sophie. "Soph, can you stay here with Aunt Stacie for a minute? I need to talk to mommy."
"Are you gonna yell?" Sophie asked quietly.
It broke Beca's heart to see the sadness on Sophie's face. It took everything Beca had in her to hold back her tears.
"No, baby girl," Beca said and pulled Sophie tight to her. "I'm sorry if you heard us yelling. I promise there won't be any more yelling. Okay?"
"Okay," Sophie said, and just like that her smile was back on her face.
"Stacie, do you mind?" Beca asked, nodding toward Sophie as she rose to her feet. "I'm going to go talk to Chloe."
"That's what I'm here for," Stacie said. She took Sophie's hand. "Let's go color while we wait for your mommy and mama to come back down."
"Yay!" Sophie squealed.
Beca took a deep breath and headed upstairs to her and Chloe's room. She stopped in the doorway as she watched Chloe putting away the clean laundry. Beca leaned her shoulder against the doorframe and couldn't help but smile at how beautiful Chloe is, even putting away laundry.
"Hey," Beca said just loud enough for Chloe to hear.
"Hey, yourself," Chloe said, looking over her shoulder.
"So, um, Stacie's here," Beca said. Chloe stopped and looked at her. "I wanted to surprise you by taking you on a spontaneous date tonight and she offered to babysit so we could go out."
Chloe bit her lip and seeing Beca's hopeful look, smiled and said, "I'd like that."
"Yeah?" Beca said, straightening her stance. "Great. Aubrey's going to come over to help but Stacie said we can leave whenever you're ready. I didn't plan anything fancy. Just something casual and lowkey. Unless you want to do something fancy. I mean, I'm good either way. I just didn't know what you might want to do. So, whatever you want to do, we'll do."
"Beca," Chloe said, walking to stand in front of her. "Casual and low key is perfect." She gave Beca a quick kiss on the lips. "Thank you for this. I just need to change."
"Okay," Beca said. "I'll meet you downstairs in 20 minutes."
"Deal," Chloe said and skipped over to the closet.
"Maybe this was a good idea after all," Beca thought as she made her way downstairs. Aubrey had arrived and was standing next to Stacie with Sophie in her arms.
"Hey, Aubrey," Beca said. "I want to thank you and Stacie for doing this."
"Are you kidding?" Aubrey said. "We love babysitting our goddaughter. And we're going to have so much fun. Aren't we, Sophie?"
"Yes," Sophie laughed and clapped her hands.
Beca pulls out some cash and holds it out toward Stacie. "I figure you guys could just order some pizza for dinner."
"We can do that," Stacie said, pushing the money back at Beca. "But you don't have to pay for it."
"It's the least I could do," Beca tells her, holding the money out.
Stacie ignored it and started talking to Sophie and Aubrey. Beca sighed and put the money back in her wallet.
"Chloe should be down any minute," Beca said. "I'm going to freshen up just a bit."
Beca hurried upstairs to the guest bathroom to brush her teeth and run a brush through her hair. She spritzed on a bit of perfume that she knows Chloe likes and checked herself in the mirror. Once she's satisfied she heads back downstairs. Beca chatted with Aubrey and Stacie until Chloe came down a few minutes later.
"Hey, Brey," Chloe said, giving her a hug. "Hey, Stacie, where's Bella?"
"Birthday sleepover," Stacie said.
"Ready?" Beca asked, brazenly checking out her wife.
"Yeah," Chloe said with a smile. "Okay, munchkin, mommy and mama are leaving. Give us kisses."
Sophie squirmed and Aubrey set her down. She gave Chloe a hug and Chloe bent down to kiss her on the top of her head. Beca knelt down in front of Sophie.
"Be good for Aunt Brey and Aunt Stacie, okay?" Beca said.
"I will," Sophie said and hugged Beca. As Sophie started to pull away Beca grabbed her and peppered kisses all over her face.
"Mama, stop," Sophie said, giggling the whole time.
"Okay," Beca said, laughing as she let Sophie go. "We'll see you in the morning. Love you."
"Wuv you, too," Sophie said.
Beca and Chloe just stood there watching Sophie play with Aubrey and Stacie.
"Will you two get out of here," Stacie said looking at them. "We've got this."
"Right," Beca said, holding out her hand to Chloe. "Shall we?"
"We shall," Chloe said and took Beca's hand.
~Is this God's Way of Testing Me?~
The waiter set their wine down in front of them. Beca told him they weren't ready to order just yet and the waiter left them alone.
"We haven't been here in a while," Chloe said looking around the little French bistro.
"I know," Beca said. "And that's on me. I kind of got stuck in the parent trap of only going places that are kid-friendly. I forget that we're adults and can pretty much go to nicer places without a kid sometimes."
"Thank you for bringing me here," Chloe said as she sipped her wine. "It hasn't been just you and me for a while."
Beca's face fell because she knew it was true. And she also knew that she had a big share of the blame for it.
"I'm sorry," Beca said as she looked at Chloe. "Our date nights have been a little crowded lately."
"Beca," Chloe said. "I'm not blaming you for that. I mean we have a kid for goodness sake. Sometimes, time for just you and me is going to be pushed to the back burner and that's fine. It would be nice if other times, like this, it could be just you and me."
"I'll make sure that we have more time for just you and me," Beca said. "I thought maybe after this we could head to Venice Beach and go for a walk. And, um, maybe talk."
"I'd like that," Chloe said. "There is something I need to tell you."
"Oh, um, okay," Beca said, reaching for her menu. "Let's order."
Beca called over their waiter and the couple ordered. They chatted about mundane things and then Beca started telling a story about one of the artists she was working with. They both had tears in their eyes from laughing. Beca hadn't felt this good being with Chloe in quite some time.
Beca and Chloe smiled at each other over the rims of their wine glasses. They set their glasses down and Chloe clears her throat.
"I'm sorry I've been out of sorts for the past couple of months," Chloe said softly.
Beca started to ask why that was when she caught something in her peripheral vision.
"Oh, my god," Beca said, frowning. "Seriously?"
"What's wrong?" Chloe asked.
The question was barely out of her mouth when she saw the camera flashes. She gave a heavy sigh and looked at Beca.
"I'm sorry," Beca said. "I don't know how they found us."
"Maybe we should just go home," Chloe said.
"Chlo," Beca said, reaching across the table to take Chloe's hand. "Let's not let them ruin our night. We can still take that walk on the beach."
"They'll just follow us," Chloe said with a small smile. "It's okay. Plus, it's probably better if we talk at home anyway."
~Is this God's Way of Testing Me?~
"I'm really sorry our night got cut short," Beca said as she drove them home.
"I meant it when I said it was okay," Chloe said. Before she could say anything else her phone pinged with a text. She pulled out her phone and read the message.
"Shit," she muttered.
"Everything okay?" Beca asked, giving Chloe a side glance.
"Um, oh, uh, yeah, everything's fine," Chloe said. She quickly typed out a response and hit send.
"Are you sure everything's-" Beca was interrupted by Chloe's phone ringing. Chloe saw the caller ID and closed her eyes before answering.
"Hello," Chloe said. She glanced over at Beca. "No, I can't right now. Beca and I are on our way home from dinner." Chloe lowered her eyes to her lap; she spoke softly into the phone. "We're about fifteen minutes from home and I can't really talk right now. We can talk about it later." Beca sees a tear fall down Chloe's face. "Yeah, mm-hmm. Okay, bye."
Chloe ended the call and looked out her window. She wiped the tear from her eye.
"Hey," Beca said, quickly glancing at Chloe before turning her eyes back to the road. "Who was that? Is Sophie okay? What's going on, Chloe?" No response. "Babe, please say something because you're scaring the shit out of me right now."
"I'm sorry," Chloe said, wiping her eyes again.
Nothing more was said as Beca pulled into their driveway and the car's headlights caught someone on their porch. It looked like they were talking to Stacie and Aubrey; the person turned and stared at the car as if waiting for its occupants to get out.
Beca thought she was imagining things until the person turned toward them and the porch light showed his face in full view. Beca felt her anger begin to boil when she clearly could see who it was.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Beca mumbled as her body became rigid and she turned to glare at Chloe. "What the fuck is he doing here? Is he the something you had to tell me about?"
"Beca, but it's not what you think," Chloe said.
"Get the fuck out of the car!" Beca snapped at Chloe. "Get out!"
"No!" Chloe said and looked at Beca "Beca, please, let me-"
"Get the fuck out of my car," Beca said through gritted teeth, barely containing her rage.
"Beca, please. It's not what it looks like," Chloe said as tears streamed down her face. "Just listen to me for a min-"
"I don't want to hear anything you have to say right now," Beca said, glaring at Chloe. "Just get the fuck out of the car."
"NO!" Chloe yelled at her as tears streamed down her face. "Not until you let me explain. He-"
Beca took off her seat belt and Chloe leaned into the door as Beca reached toward her. Beca unhooked Chloe's seatbelt and then reached over to pull the door handle. The door opened and Beca said, "Get out!"
At this point, the door was pulled completely open and a man's voice joined in. "What's going on? Chloe, are you okay?"
Ignoring the person who spoke, Beca, with tears streaming down her face, looked at Chloe and quietly said, "Chloe, please, just get out of the car."
Stacie and Aubrey made their way down to the car but stood off to the side unsure of what to say or do.
Chloe looked at Beca, still pleading with Beca to let her explain. Beca turned and stared out the front window of the car, watching Stacie and Aubry and ignoring Chloe; Chloe let out a sob and got out of the car. As soon as Chloe was clear of the car, Beca backed out of the driveway and with tires squealing, drove away from the house.
"Beca!" Chloe screamed and fell to her knees in the driveway.
Stacie and Aubrey ran over to Chloe. Aubrey helped her to her feet as Stacie told their unwanted guest that he should leave.
"I'm not leaving until I'm sure Chloe is okay."
"I'm fine," Chloe said, her voice thick with tears. "Please, just go, Chicago."
