kinda massively cheating here, but for the character ask game, would you spill your thoughts on Inoichi, Asuma, and/or the not-yet-invented characters of Obimama/Obipapa? I'm feeling interested in a lot of fictional parental units in this chilis tonight

one aspect about them i love

Inoichi - Now this might just be my POV here, but Inoichi is super goofy at times and others he's SUPER serious. I love it. When he's with the Analysis Team right before Pain's attack, he's a no-nonsense leader. When he's interacting with Ino off work he is her silly, well-meaning dad. We love a man who can do both!

Asuma - Just how well he gets along with Ino-Shika-Cho. Like they have their moments, especially when Kishi (and Studio Perriot) wants to play up the comedy, and ESPECIALLY in the early anime, but he meshes very well with Team 10 and they mesh very well with him. He's like their older brother, or an uncle they know really well.

Obiparents - The thing about Obiparents is that they just straight up don't have characters--they're the archetypal dead parents, a picture on Obito's corkboard full of all of the people that he loves and nothing more. However, they gave us Obito, and for that I am forever in their debt.

one aspect i wish more people understood about them

I don't actually have anything for this for Asuma or Inoichi--I just can't think of anything, though I haven't really read any meta on Asuma or Inoichi so I'm not really sure how the people feel about them and if I disagree with any common fandom opinions on them.

Obiparents - Because they're the stock dead parents they don't ever really get to parent their son or have any kind of meaningful character on-screen. It is their absence that is felt more than anything.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character

Inoichi - He's a single dad. We never see his wife in the manga (i think she's there in filler but i still hc he's a single dad). He just gives off those vibes. He's the only person whose ever home in most of the scenes we see with Ino in her house (or he's just not there at all and she's all alone). Single dad Inoichi ftw.

Asuma - Had he lived, Asuma would have been the kind of dad who lets his daughter put make up on him and do his hair. You walk into Mirai's room and Asuma is sitting their on the floor with her with uneven pigtails in his hair and very badly done eyeshadow. He takes her to the movies and they both wear princess dresses. She paints his nails. He is having the best time of his life.

Obiparents - Obimama is the goofy one out of the two of them, she's where Obito gets it from. Obipapa isn't super serious but he's definitely not as goofy as Obimama.

one character i love seeing them interact with

Inoichi - I unironically love seeing him interact with Ino, even if it's sparse. He's so bad at relating to her it's kind of funny. Like there's a scene in a filler episode where he asks her if she's "finally chosen between Shikamaru and Choji" and she gets so mad at him for it. Peak teenage girl behavior, and he's soooo bad at understanding it. Like yes he is Inoichi of the Leaf, famed 1/3 of Ino-Shika-Cho but he is also Ino's lame ass dad.

And like it's very obvious he loves her very much because his final words to her (and his final words EVER) are of how proud he is of her and the person she's become. Like he is her silly dad but he loves her very much and so I treasure every interaction between them that we get.

Asuma - Shikamaru. There's a scene of them laying on the grass together having a conversation and they look so comfortable with each other. Like if they looked a little more alike you could believe that was Shikamaru's uncle or even older brother.

Gee Shikamaru, how come Kishimoto let you have THREE father figures?? - Naruto probably.

Asuma just really seems to GET Shikamaru and that seeps into every single interaction they have. Asuma knows how to get him to do things even when he doesn't want to, Asuma knows how to talk to him, Asuma knows how to work with him. Their interactions are always top tier to me.

Obiparents - If they were alive I would have loved to see interactions between them and Obito, and Rin and even Kakashi. Could you imagine?? Obito inviting Rin over after school only for her to drag Kakashi along and Obito is fuming and his parents think it's hilarious and adorable.

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more

Inoichi - I wish we saw Inoichi interact with Shikamaru and Choji. Choza has a couple interactions with Shikamaru that leads us to believe that the older generation of Ino-Shika-Cho interact fairly regularly with the younger members (altho it might just be Choza's chill vibes). Choza's wife also seems familiar with Shikamaru considering she runs up to him crying in episode 82 of Shippuden while trying to comfort HIM. I can't remember if Shikaku has had similar interactions w the rest of younger Ino-Shika-Cho so if anyone knows please let me know. I crave Ino-Shika-Cho crumbs.

Asuma - I wish we had seen more interactions between Asuma and his dad, Hiruzen. We're told that there's bad blood between the two of them but we're never really shown WHY exactly the two of them had a falling out. I know they disagreed on some things and I might just not be remembering things but we don't really see many if ANY disagreements between Asuma and his father. And Hiruzen isn't just his father--he's his Hokage! There's so much potential there for some interesting conversations/scenes and we just don't get any.

Obiparents - (if they were alive) I wish we could have seen some interactions between them and Obito. Like maybe if they were alive when he was super, SUPER young we could have seen them interacting with him and how they treated him when he was a baby/toddler. Was he a wanted child? Was he born out of obligation? These are questions we never have answered because they're dead before the story even begins.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character

Inoichi - I think Inoichi and Minato knew each other! Inoichi was the head of the Analysis Team in the Intelligence Division, I think there's a good chance he reported directly to Minato when he was Hokage.

Asuma - Since Asuma said that the Sarutobi serve as sensei to each new generation of Ino-Shika-Cho since Konoha was founded I like to think he was probably introduced to them when they were really young. He was probably sporadically in-and-out of their childhoods, like some cool older brother figure who takes them out to lunch to restaurants wayyy too nice for kids their age but he doesn't care, it just so happens that Yakinku Q became their favorite place to go so that's where he took them post mission.

Obiparents - Considering Obito is considered a bit of an outcast I think his parents were as well. Obiparents, for some reason or another, were not liked by Fugaku's parents (ie the clan head) and thus that extended to Fugaku as well. When Fugaku inherited the clan he didn't like Obiparents for one reason or another and thus that extended to not liking their son. Vicious cycle!

Love comes in many forms , like clouds in the sky. But for you love took the form of your best friend, Shikamaru. Neither of you remembered how you met or became friends but here you were lying next to him on a sunny day staring up at the clouds passing by. Once in a while you would glance at him, hands folded behind his head, eyes closed, satisfied smile on his lips, you fell for him little more on days like these.

You did not end up on the same team as him but you guys met regularly, sometimes to train and sometimes to lie down on the rooftop and talk about most mundane things. Shika liked spending time with you the most, unlike his other friends you were not intrusive or boring, you thought alike, you were as smart as him and posed a tough opponent in shoji and during training. He cared about you deeply, always has ever since you both learned to walk. He would wait for you at the gates when you returned from a mission and drag you to ichiraku, knowing you well you probably would have prefered to go home and sleep but food is necessary. Shika is a laid back person himself but not when it comes to you, he would make sure you eat well after a mission before dropping you home.

“Come on y/n is that all you’re going to eat? choji had that for his third snack during training”, he would say smirking at you.

“Shut up shika before I smack that smirk off your face, I just want to sleep..” You said pouting at him. It amazed him how you can go from threatening him to looking like a kid in seconds. But he liked this side of you. His friends often teased him about you but he rarely bothered with it.

Your friends knew about your crush on your best friend and often tried to push you to confess your feelings but you never did. You knew if he didn’t feel the same about you then you might end up losing the friendship as well.

You were out on yet another long mission. It had been three months since you had been in Konoha, two more weeks of this and then you’d be home. You never stopped thinking about shika, He lived in your head rent free, every time you’d see a funny looking cloud you would think about him. Two more jonin were joining you today, they were coming from Konoha, One of them being your friend Kai, Kai was a friend of both you and shika and had known you both since academy. You hoped he would bring the news from back home. You were in your tent, the sun had started to set on the horizon when Kai walked inside, flashing you a smile that every jonin was familiar with, the one that said ‘I am glad you’re safe’, You smiled at him walking up to give him a fist bump.

You both were sitting outside when he finally spoke up “aren’t you going to ask about him?”

“ask about who?” You said trying to hide the little blush creeping on your cheeks.

“come on y/n I know you have been wanting to ask about him ever since i walked inside your tent”

“If you know then tell me” you said turning your face away in annoyance.

“I met him last week and he asked me something, I think it might be about you”

“what do you mean?”

“He asked me how to know if a girl likes you…” Silence filled the space around you, you could not hear anything except your heart thumping loudly, your body felt hot and cold at the same time and your throat ran dry. It took you a while to come back to your senses, you took a deep breath before speaking up.

“yeah so?”

“Come on y/n I have known you both since we were kids. I can see the connection between both of you. I know how you feel about him and him asking me this only means that he feels the same about you”

“What do you expect me to do Kai?” Ask him out?”

“Yes, Why not? For how long are you going to wait for him to ask you? I think you should go ahead and take your chance, I think you should at least try talking to him about it”

You sighed knowing what Kai said might be true.

“Fine then.. when we get back I will try to talk to him,but you have to promise to keep this between us!”

“I promise!”

“What did you tell him anyway, About his question?”

Kai threw his head back and laughed “I told him to take her cloud watching”

Soon you joined him in his laughter. Shaking your head at the stupid advice.

You reached the gates of Konoha mid evening, Everyone was excited to be back home after months long mission, But a tougher mission had begun for you. You were disappointed to find that like every time shika was not waiting for you at the gates. Was he away on a mission? Or in the hospital? You bumped into Choji on your way and told you that Shika was at his home. Something seemed off about choji but you decided to ignore it. You went to your home to wash off the journey from your body, if you were going to confess then you were going to do it right. You got ready immediately, wearing your cleanest clothes and doing your best with your hair. You kept taking deep breaths on your way to Shika's house, wiping your palms on the sides of your dress.

You stood outside his door now, the moment that you were dreading but excited about was finally here. With trembling hands to rung the doorbell..There was silence for a few seconds, As you were about to ring the doorbell for a second time you heard footsteps approaching from the side of the door. It wasn’t Shika. A tall blonde girl stood in front of you now, You stared at her, she had her hair in two pony tails and was wearing Shika’s shirt.. What was happening?

“Um, is Shikamaru there?” You said you're trying your best to not sound nervous.’

“Oh hey y/n you’re back!” Shikamaru said walking behind the blonde girl “This is Temari..we uh.. met a while ago” He said rubbing the back of his neck.

“Hi y/n nice to meet you! I have heard so much about you! Come inside!”

You nervously stepped inside trying your best to make sense of the situation.

“I need to head out now, It was nice meeting you y/n we should meet again” Temari said flashing you a smile. “yeah it was nice meeting you too”

“I didn’t know you were returning today”

“Uh, Yeah we were supposed to come tomorrow but things ended early, So what's up with you?”

“Well you have already met Temari”

“Yeah, is she from Konoha? I haven’t seen her before”

“She is from sand village, I met her on a mission, I wanted to tell you about her but you were away”

“Are you guys..Together?”

“I guess you could say that”

You felt blood run cold in your veins, You felt dizzy and hyper aware at the same time, Was she the girl he was talking about? Did you lose your chance to confess?

“Y/n you alright? You look pale?” , You snapped out of your thoughts and shook your head.

“Yeah I am fine, Just tired from the mission I guess, When did you ask her out How did it all happen?”

“She came to Konoha two months ago and we met for dinner. You wouldn’t believe it but I asked her to watch clouds with me at night! and she said yes” Shikamaru said laughing. You looked down at your hand and laughed with him, You spent the next hour talking with him pretending the ache in your heart does not exist.

“Do you want to join us for dinner?”

“No, it’s fine I have a mission report to complete so I better get started on that, I’ll see you around”, Shikamaru paused to look at you, trying to understand what seems off. But he was a fool when it comes to you.

“Alright then y/n”.

You left his place and walked back to your house, you head hung low, tears glossing your eyes, The lump in your throat straining painfully. As soon as you entered your house your knees gave up, You fell to the floor crying your eyes out. You were late. You missed out on your chance and now he was in love with someone else. You wiped your tears with the back of your hand as you made your way to your bed, You fell on the bed and closed your eyes, You were out tears and words to express what you felt, You felt numb. Soon sleep and exhaustion took over you, waiting for a morning when all of this would just be a dream.

You took every long mission that came your way, You could not bear to be around your bestfriend, It’s indeed funny how you were risking your life to be away from the same person you’d risk your life to be with, fate had dealt you a cruel hand and you had no option but to play. You were returning from one such mission, long gone were the days when Shikamaru would wait at the gates and drag you to ichiraku, Now you walk home alone avoiding him every chance you’d get. Things changed between you and Shikamaru, You rarely met, Rarely spoke, You don’t remember the last time you saw him, Had it been more than a year?

You saw an envelope stuck on your door, You opened it to find a wedding invitation inside, He was getting married huh? You were happy for your best friend to have found love. You were going to be there for him.

So here you were,wearing a blue dress with minimal makeup, seated on the second row, third chair from the right, Kai to your left and Ino sitting to your right. You stood up as the wedding band started playing, everyone was looking at Temari standing at the entrance,but you could not look away from Shikamaru standing at the altar, He looked at you and you smiled at him, For some reason he did not move his eyes away from yours, His bride to be was walking towards him and he could not move his eyes away from you, you raised an eyebrow at him in confusion and nudged you head towards temari indicating him to snap out oh his thoughts and look at his bride to be, Shikamaru finally snapped out of his thoughts and averted his eyes towards Temari who now stood two steps away from him.

Shikamaru who was all smiles and cheers a while ago now looked like he was solving the most complex puzzle in his mind. His breath hastened and palms sweaty, Was he getting wedding jitters? Something doesn’t feel right. As he looked at Temari standing in front of him he finally realised… when he looked at the audience once again, you were gone..

Summary: Shikamaru tells you how he feels

Notes: angsty, fluff, arguing, attitude, Shikamaru x reader, best friend naruto, nudish scene

You just got home from a long and exhausting mission with Kiba and Naruto. All you had in mind was going home and going to bed. You don’t mind long missions although you did miss seeing your best friend daily when you were gone. To your surprise you didn’t see him at the gate as you got closer.

“Bye , Naruto. Bye Kiba.” You yelled out as the two boys waved their goodbyes to you and you took your normal route home. On your way home you couldn’t get out of our head as to why you didn’t see Shikamaru standing where he usually stands, it was strange of him to not be in his normal spot when you got home. And it was still noon by the time you got back. You eventually pushed the thought away as you got to your front door. To your surprise it was already unlocked , you made your way in only hearing voices coming from the living room. You walked in curious to only see the TV was on and a sleeping Shikamaru on your couch. You walked by him , turning off the TV , and putting out his cigarette. With the motion of you putting out the cigarette for him woke him.

Shikamru shot up from his slumber and gave you the biggest hug.

“Oh, y/n how I’ve missed you.” he expressed squeezing the life out of you

“H-hey Shika” you replied as he let you go, you walked to your room and he followed right behind you like a lost puppy who found his owner.

“How was your mission?” He asked sitting on your bed watching you get clothes out of your dresser

“Long, and exhausting, I was already craving my bed.” You replied as he smiled thinking to himself how alike you to are that it drove him crazy.

“Well Shika, catch up when I get out?” You asked walking over to the bathroom only in your tank top and underwear.

“U-uh, yea” Shikamaru said as he walked to the living room, trying to get the last image of you out of his mind.

Shikamru was lost in thought, confusing himself the more he thought about you, and how he missed you, seeing your body exposed to him was nothing new but this strange feeling of wanting more it left him startled.

“Feelings are such a drag?.. he mumbled to himself

You walked out the bathroom in only some short shorts and one of his training T’s that went to about mid thigh, your legs exposed freely, and your hair heald up by a towel, as you walked over to your room to do your hair.

“Shika I’m out” you yelled out to him, soon hearing his footstep closer to your bedroom, soon looking through your mirror to see Shikamaru laying on your bed with his feet hang off.

You sensed something was off but you didn’t know what

“Shika, are you okay?” you asked

“mhmmm” he replied with his eyes closed

“are you sure? You seem kinda weird, is something on your mind?” you asked

“Well yes sort of” he said know sitting up

“Would you like to talk about it?” You asked sitting next to him on the bed, the moment you sat down he engulfed you in a hug. You just sat there shook, Shika was never this sentimental around you. Yes you guys have slept in the same bed together, seen each other close to naked but it was never something that surpassed friendship. And his chakra was giving off strong vibes unlike his usual calm and collected vibes you received from him.

“Y/n , we do need to talk” He said letting go of you

“what’s up Shika?” You asked sitting back up to look at him, he looked back at you and sighed

“I like you y/n” he blurted out, you just starred at him shocked on that the fact that the lazy man in front of you just to you.

“I-I like you too, Shika” you responded , he sighed with relief and pulled you in for a kiss.

“ I have always liked you y/n , I just didn’t know how you would react since you were always with Naruto.” he explained

“Naruto? No way! He’s like my little -big brother theres no way I liked him, it’s always been you Shika.” you responded giggling.

“Feelings are such a drag.” he laughed out

“That they are , my friend that they are.” you grabbed his chin having him face you as you leaned in to peck his lips

“I’ve been wanting that since you left.” he admitted

“It took you, two weeks to come to your sense that you have a thing for me” you exclaimed surprised that it didn’t happen sooner.

“What you always threw mix signals” He sighed , the rest of the night he just listen to you ramble on and on how you liked him and you never thought he would like you back, and how he was so hard to read.

“Well y/n my love, now that I have you , feelings are such a drag.”

If Nart weren't the protagonist then he'd probably be dead by now with how many ppl just let him do stupid shit or just leave him in dangerous situations.

In the anime the toad makes Naruto stay on his back the whole day or smth. Also, it's kinda obvious since the start that Nart is the Fourth's kid.

Also the sand siblings (or at least just Temari and Kankuro talking) was kinda nice. The politic talk was kinda nice.

"Los shinobi solo son armas de ataque." (Shinoni are only weapons) if only the anime/manga carried on this theme until the end of it.

This scene should have happened last episode but the anime timeline is all messed up.

Also, the Sand Siblings scene was supposed to happen after this talk but the anime put before Naruto had even fallen off Lord Gamabunta.

Also, Temari and Kankuro lost Gaara.

Ino teasing Sakura is kinda funny until they bring up Sasuke. Sakuta bringing Lee flowers is nice. In the anime, Sakura was there just before Gaara attacked Lee or smth. She had left not even a minute before stepped into the room.

Of course not. You're the protagonist, in most animes they don't die. And if they do, they're revived not long after.

Backstory time.

I mean you're both jinchuriki but you're not the same. Like not that much alike.

Seeing Naruto at Ichiraku's was nice. Seeing the Ino-Shika-Cho parents just hanging out sure was something. Also, I think Nart has a doll that looks kinda like Kakashi in his room.

"Soy agresivo porque estoy frustrado pero debajo de eso me siento como un perdedor." (I'm aggressive because I'm frustrated but deep down I feel like a loser) So Naruto himself admits that he's quite aggressive and not that perfect, always cheerful person plenty of people like to write him. Not that ppl writing characters different ways and having different perspectives is bad, but Naruto isn't as perfect as plenty write him. He literally threatened to break Sasuke's bones to bring him back to the village.

Honestamente que pedo con los toros. Naruto arrives late after almost being trampled and asks about where Sasuke is.

Always: Shikamaru x Reader

Warnings: death, sadness, fluffy shit.

A/N: this one is about 2.2k words, it kinda got away from me lol enjoy and request!

Being Naruto Uzumaki's fraternal twin sister had its perks. I mean, the excessive amount of friends, ramen 24/7, always having a best friend that would be there for me and have my back no matter what but would also put me in my place if he had too. Being born five minutes after the infamous jinjuriki he was also so protective. Threatening any guy that would just have the nerve to flirt with me, the sister of the future Hokage.

We only had each other for so long, sure, our relationship took a bad turn for a while. While he was usually ignored and looked at as a monster, I didn't get the kind of treatment. Being the "normal" one of the twins, I was treated with more respect because I didn't have a tailed beast to host. I always felt awful for that and no matter how many times I stood up for my brother, he refused to accept my sympathy. The Chunin Exams came and went when he finally came to me after a few weeks of ignoring me. It was after Saskue had left and he was a mess. He cried into my shoulder and told me he was sorry. I just held him close and told him that I was never mad at him. I could never bead at him for how he felt about everything. It was unfair to him to be treated that badly, unfair that he had no say in being a host and I told him that he was so strong and had such a kind heart and people would eventually see that. I mean, they had to right? He was going to be the future Hokage.

When he left for those years with Jiryia, it was hard. It was like half of me was missing and I felt kind of lost without him. While he was out training, I had passed the Chunin and the Jonin exams. I was so proud of myself, but it would've felt even better if my twin was with me.

When he came home, I wasn't there to greet him. I was on business with the Kazekage. Gaara became a close friend, he accepted my friendship because he felt like he could trust me. He became like a little brother. And then everything happened with the Akatsuki and I ended up losing an arm trying to save a few children from a clay bomb. I laid in one of the beds while everyone was trying to get Gaara back and I felt like I failed. I was a fucking Jonin for kage sake and I couldn't protect or retrieve Gaara. It hit me hard.

When Temari, Sakura, Kakashi and Naruto arrived, they went straight to Kankauro. That poor boy was in such pain from the poison, it hurt my heart when I heard him scream from the extraction. I was so focused on not paying attention I hadn't realized Naruto had made his way over to me and held my left hand. Once I felt his hand touch mine, my eyes flew open and he had tears in his eyes.

"I'm so sorry, (y/n)! I should've been here to protect you! I failed and I'm so sorry you got hurt." He his head dropped to the side of the bed and cried.

"Hey, hey it's okay Naruto. This shit happens you know that. And it is not your fault, okay? You had to go and train. This was just a mission that turned wrong. But you're here now! And I just know you're going to go after Gaara and bring him home. And I'll be rooting for your success.. believe it!" I smiled, small tear trails staining my own cheeks. He looked at me and gave a small smile.

After everything that happened at the sand and Gaara's return home, no longer a host for the one tail, things seemed to go somewhat better. I got a fake arm that works well with my chakra and I had been training non stop with all my friends. But I mostly spent time with one particular ninja the most. A cute, lazy Pineapple haired Nara. You see, Shikamaru and I had been close and dating for about a year at this point. We never particularly told anyone, but people seemed to know. Well, all except Naruto. He was so oblivious to it all, he didn't realize how close Shika and I were until Pein attacked the Hidden Leaf. So, that's where I'll begin this little tale.

"Shit shit shit!" I was running around trying to get civilians to safety, grabbing children and pushing other civilians towards the Hokage head mountain. A building was starting to crumble and fire and explosions were coming from everywhere it seemed. Once I felt like I got everyone I could I ran back to where the main event was happening. Thankfully Naruto wasn't here, I wouldn't even begin to imagine what they would do if they had captured him. I mean, they killed Gaara, but Lady Chio had that special secret jutsu that she took to the grave. I couldn't bear to lose my brother.

To fight was lasting so long, there was no way to tell when it would all be over. I was separated from Choji, Ino and Shikamaru when everything began. The three started fighting while I helped get the civilians to safety, but I knew they had to be around here. Alive. They just had to be. Things were seemingly going fine until I heard a small child scream. I snapped my head to the sound so fast I swore I got whiplash. A small girl was cowering against a wooden wall, the enemy heading toward her. I ran as fast as I could and snatched the girl away. I tossed her to the side gently and told her to run. She just looked at me, her big brown eyes filled with tears and a worried look on her face. "It's okay, you go to the mountains and find your family. Okay? Go!" She nodded and took off. I fought off the enemy for as long as I could. My chakra was running extremely low, so low that I wasn't able to dodge the wooden spear that came hurtling towards me. It went straight through my chest, pinning against the wooden wall behind me. I coughed up blood and my vision started to go a bit fuzzy.

"Your time is now over. You were a decent Shinoni, but you were still weak." The enemy spat out. I didn't say anything as I clutched the wooden spear that pinned me to the wall, trying to take in air. It felt like I was drowning, I could feel my lungs filling with blood and tears start to run down my face. I would never see my friends again, see my brothers happy go lucky smile while down bowl after bowl of ramen. I would never be able to Shika that I loved him. Everything was fading to black, my head dropped and my arms went limp by my side.

I woke up in a dark place, no longer in pain. I was dead. "Hello little one." A voice spoke and I looked around to see a small light. I ran towards it, hoping maybe I'd wake up for real and I was alive and well. That this was just a sick dream or a gentusu. But what I saw when I reached the light was unbelievable. I saw the fourth Hokage with a woman with red hair.

"Welcome, (y/n)." The woman came over to me and gave me a hug. "I'm your mom." She whispered in my ear and turned to the man. "And that's your dad." To say I was crying was an understatement. There was a river flow of salty tears streaming down my face as I hugged them both.

NARUTO'S POV

I ran back towards the village at full speed, I just had to get back. I had to protect my friends and mentors. I had to protect (y/n). I saw the massive crater when I returned to what was supposed to be my village. Injured and dead ninja and civilians alike were being gathered in a clearing. I ran ahead, I had to find them, I had to find everyone. I spotted Sakura first and ran towards her, "Sakura!" She turned her head, tears running down her face and I stopped in front of her. "Where is everyone?" She pointed to our group of friends, everyone is there except for Kakashi-Sensei and my sister. "S-Sakura? Where… where is Kakashi and (y/n)?" She sobbed louder which caused all of our friends to look over. I walked towards them and the moment I spotted Shikamaru on the ground holding someone, sobbing, I froze. I knelt down and looked over him. He was holding my sister, cradling her head in his lap. Her body was paler than normal against the red stain on her shirt. I didn't move, I didn't cry, I just stared, not convinced that she was actually gone. After a few moments I got up and made my way towards the true enemy.

"N-Naruto? Where are you going?" Sakura asked me, her voice meek and breaking.

"To end this."

SHIKAMARU'S POV

The enemy had retreated for a bit, allowing us to gather our injured and deceased. I was frantically looking for (y/n) I had to make sure she was okay. "(Y/n)!!" I heard Ino yell from behind me. I ran towards her voice as fast as I could. Once I reached her, my blood ran cold. There she was, the one that I truly cared about and loved, pinned against a wall, spear straight through the chest. I tentatively reached out and touched her and my instantly moved back as I felt her cold, stiff, lifeless body. I stood frozen. The rationalist inside me was gone and I then pulled the spear from her form and caught her in my arms and she limply fell. The cry that ripped from my throat was inhuman, angry and broken. I fell to the ground holding her close to my chest. "W-wake up, please!" I cried even harder knowing it was useless. She was already gone. Passed onto the afterlife while I was here to deal with the heartbreak. The pain. I knew this love thing was a drag, but I endured it for her. She made my days brighter, the sun burn hotter, she made everyday so much better.

"Sh-Shika? W-we should get her to the others." Ino whispered, scared her own voice would break, as she gently put a hand on my shoulder. All I could manage was a small nod and tried to suppress my cries. I carried her to where everyone was putting the deceased and all our friends stood there with wide eyes and I carried their closest friend in my arms. Everyone was shocked, too stunned to say anything as I put (y/n) on the ground. But I still cradle her head in my lap, I couldn't let her go just yet. The tears still slipping down my cheeks were enough for everyone to know this was real. When Naruto showed up I sobbed, he was just in shock as the rest of us. When he left to go confront the real Pein, none of us stopped him. If anyone could end this. He could.

YOUR POV

Talking to my parents had been the most calming time of my life. Well, afterlife. They told me stories about what it was like before they died, how Kakashi was like another son to him. How they never wanted Naruto to host the nine tails. I told them how life was growing up, how I was dating Shikamaru and my dad gave me a whole lecture on safe sex, even though I was dead and I wouldn't have to worry about any of that. Well, until I started to glow. "Looks like you still have a full life to live my sweet." My mother smiled and I looked at them with a smile and tears in my eyes.

"I love you both." I said as I faded back into the darkness. This time though, when I opened my eyes I saw a face I never thought I'd be able to see again. "Shika?" His eyes snapped open and he stared down at me, his eyes wide and mouth open. He stared at me for a moment, not believing what he was seeing. His dead girlfriend, breathing. Alive.he held me so close to his chest and sobbed even louder. Ino and Choji were all giving him sad looks until they saw my arms wrap around his neck and held him closer.

"OH SHIT!" Choji yelled as the other dead bodies were coming back from death. I sat up slowly and grabbed Shikamaru's face and kissed him. I kissed him like it would be the last time I ever would.

"I… I thought I lost you for good this time." He spoke softly.

"I will always come back for you." I smiled at him, tear glazed eyes staring into his own. "Always." We kissed again, pulling each other close. We stayed like that for a moment until we heard a certain obnoxious blonde yelling at us.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?! SHIKAMARU THAT'S MY SISTER! WHEN THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN?!" Causing everyone to let out a laugh. Resting his forehead on mine Shikamaru spoke quietly. "I love you."

"I love you too, Shika. I love you too."

ANBU

Sasuke grits his teeth, hiking Neji higher on his back. He’s thanking Kami that the Hyuuga is light— the fact should be worrying, if they’re not unconscious and bleeding right now. The omega has a loose hold around his neck, his black cloak enveloping Neji enough that the warmth of his back is keeping him cold. He tries to hold Neji as securely as he can with one arm, the other supporting Shikamaru.

His hawk summon, Aya is guiding him through the forest outside the walls, slowly walking closer the gate. Their shadows isn’t seen in the dark, his mismatched eyes looking around in case they get ambushed again. Wet plops of mud can be heard from his footsteps, dragging Shikamaru with him. He ignores the shaking of his hands, ignoring it to move faster, despite the protest of his wheezing breaths.

He feels Shikamaru waking up from where he’s supporting him with his left arm, the beta thankfully— awake. “Deer, wake up.” he says quietly, still pulling the other teen along, “It’s just a bit from here, just open your eyes please.” He pleads, no matter how it hurts his pride, but his emotions are haywire— sometimes being an Uchiha has it’s downsides— and his anxiety is high-strung. His alpha instincts making his ears ring, the overwhelming impulse to protect the people important to him.

Shikamaru blearily opens his eyes, making him sigh in relief seeing familiar chocolate brown eyes. “You with me?” he asks, one brow raised. “Barely.” Shikamaru mumbles, the Nara inhaling his alpha scent, the toasted almonds and smokey cinnamon pheromones helping the beta gather his thoughts. He breathes out slowly, gritting his teeth at the bones in his ribs grating against each other, shivering as the cold wind hits his bare chest, his clothing around the two males he’s with to keep them warm. Shikamaru moves to pull away, making him click his tongue in annoyance. “Deer, stay close.” he tugs the beta closer, Shikamaru’s arm hitting his rib by accident, making him hiss in pain. Shikamaru, only pulls away more when he hears the hiss, attempting to wrench free of his hold. He would be amused if he his instincts aren’t screaming at him to not let go any of the two. His hand grips Shikamaru’s waist tight — making sure that the beta can’t be separated from him.

The beta male just narrows his brows, titling his head, licking his dry, chapped lips. “Why do you keep pulling me?”

He shakes his head, pretending to shrug, before leaning on the wall, relieved to see they’re in the outskirts. He stops in his tracks, leaning on the wall with his dislocated shoulder, his chakra exhaustion finally putting a toll on his battered body. “Just don’t walk away, you might pass out, you hit your head pretty damn bad earlier.” he rasps, while lowering Shikamaru on the ground slowly, the Nara sinking on the muddy grass below him, blinking repeatedly to fight the sleep away.

His body aches for carrying the two for so long, for once thanking Kami for being an alpha, even if omega genetics is the major second gender running in Uchiha Clan. “Kakashi,” he calls out, mismatched eyes staring at the lone dark grey eye in front of him, relief flooding his whole being at seeing reinforcements arriving.

“Kid, how are you still standing?” his sensei asks him, sturdy hands holding him up while Wolf carries Neji from his back, Sasuke falling forward to Kakashi’s chest. “5 soldier pills, 3 adrenaline shots and pure sheer will.” he snaps, exhaling shallowly. “Crow, Wolf, we need to shunshin these three to the hospital.” The two other ANBU scouts carry his team on their backs, Itachi and Kiba staring at him with worry. He waves a hand dismissively, smiling in satisfaction when he sees Itachi’s red eyes glaring at him. “I’m fine, aniki.” he answers, letting Kakashi support him as they shunshin, arriving in the hospital, nurses and doctors alike walking out of their way.

Kakashi drops him to a bed, Sakura slamming the door open with Ino, Tsunade coming in last, the woman glaring at him. “Brat, what mess did you get into?” she pursed her lips, her eyes looking over the obvious bruising by his ribs, and the shudders going through him.

“Obito is with Shisui finishing the mission, they’ll arrive using the Kamui in a bit.” he croaks out, reassuring Kakashi and Itachi for their lovers.

Tsunade rolls her eyes at him, fondly scoffing a ‘tch’ under her breath. “I question myself why you’re my favorite Uchiha.” she says at him, earning a shallow breathy laugh from him, “It must be my charms, a lot of people say so.”

He drew in a large breath when Tsunade moved his bones back into place, the action making him choke on his breath, coughing wetly. “What happened, Uchiha, you’re only supposed to get intel.” Sparrow asks him, making him look up from where he’s staring at his bloody knuckles.

“Kiri ANBU, three teams, ambushed us.” Several winces comes from the other ANBU scouts, Kakashi’s lips pressed to a tight line. “Obito’s fine, old man.” he teases, patting Kakashi’s arm with his unoccupied hand. Tsunade decides to click his shoulder back in that exact moment, making him slap the arm in accident. He bit his lips enough to draw blood, turning to the woman with his eyes whirring, glare in place. “That was uncalled for.” Tsunade looks at him, before her hands glow in green chakra, healing the muscles and tissues around the socket on his shoulder, humming. “You should’ve paid attention then, brat.”

He rolls his aching shoulder blades as he leans back on the hospital bed, inhaling the scent of antiseptic and white sheets. He looks at his shivering pale skin, while wrapping his ankles together, whistling, “Thank you, mom.” he says, watching as Tsunade fondly pats his leg. “Try not to get hurled across the field next time.” she jokes, if only she knew. “You should tell that to Shika.” he points to the half-asleep Nara, the beta opening an eye to glare at him. “No, but really, you were thrown across the field.” he says in a firm voice, knowing the beta didn’t remember it, “Kami, my heart stopped beating for like, minutes.” he admits, crossing his arms. “Glad to know you care for me, Uchiha.” Shikamaru yawns, pillowing his head on his folded arms. “As if carrying you two across a whole damn forests isn’t caring, I don’t know what it is.”

He moves to stand, bare feet planting on the cold ground, stubbornly ignoring the protests of the others telling him he’s healing. He opens the bathroom before looking at them flatly, over his shoulder. “I don’t want to sleep from getting doused on the rain.” He gestures at his bare chest before turning to Shikamaru, “No matter how lazy you are, you better take a shower or else,” he threatens, narrowing his eyes, “I won’t hesitate to drag you to the shower, wounded or not.” The Nara sighs in defeat, before dryly answering. “Yes Captain.” He closes the door, turning the knob to the hottest setting, pleased when he sees three folded clothes on the shelf, amused that the three of them already have a separate room from the other patients.

He walks out the shower, steam billowing by his ankles, drying his wet dark locks. He chuckles watching Shikamaru dragging his sleepy form in the bathroom, throwing his towel to the back of the brunette.

The brunette glares at him, before picking the towel off the ground, closing the door behind him. Sasuke fixes their masks by the bedside table, collecting their discarded uniforms to the hamper on the corner, separating his cloak and placing it on the back of a chair.

Sasuke moves their beds beside each other, gently rousing Neji awake, “You need to take a bath,” he tells him, the Hyuuga sleepily walking to the bathroom, while he lays down face down on the larger bed, listening to their humming.

He lays still while the two males drop to either side of him, a thought on the back of his mind nagging him if the his brother and the others are still in the room, but he’s too tired to care. He reminds himself to tell the others of his relationship, tired of being professional in front of them.

He rolls tiredly, looking up to Neji peering at him with white eyes, staring at his very soul. He huffs a quiet chuckle when he feels Shikamaru laying down beside him, an arm moving across his stomach, the rise and fall of his chest comfortable to Sasuke’s side, his arm wrapping around his shoulders.

Neji doesn’t break eye contact, blinking at him softly, the Hyuuga content on switching his gaze between him and Shikamaru. Shikamaru opens his eyes slowly, nuzzling him softly, “Neji, just fucking sleep.” he grouses, letting out a faint brown sugar and coffee scent.

Sasuke snorts, before pulling Neji down, tucking his head to brown locks, inhaling honey — the scent pleasing to the nose even if he hates sweets.

He kisses their temples, looking at their intertwined hands over his stomach. Shikamaru leans over to kiss Neji on the lips, nudging their noses together before laying down again, muttering ‘how troublesome it was to lean over’.

“Ah, sleep, I’m tired, you’re both heavy.” he complains, his eyes already drooping. “Ji, you heard that?” he listens as Shikamaru mockingly whispers, the two of them talking about how he’s the heaviest out of the three of them, which is untrue — he has the lightest steps, Shikamaru is the heaviest out of the three. He cuts in, “I’m not the heaviest, I just happen to be the one strongest to carry your two sorry asses across the forest.” “You love these sorry asses though.” Neji teases, white eyes in mischief. “Damn right I do, now sleep.” he kisses their lips, before pulling the covers over them.

The silence is comfortable, the warm sunlight through the curtains lulling them further to sleep, their scents mingling, the combination fitting so perfectly, their chests breathing in the same rhythm.

“Baby Uchiha!” Obito greets quietly, making Sasuke scowl at him in irritation, not appreciating woken up from his sleep. He glares, feeling his drowsiness slip away from him, making him grumble. “We still need to do the report.” Obito reminds him, still standing in his uniform. Sasuke stares at him, glancing from his mates to Obito, and back again. “Fine.” he answers blankly, separating his limbs from his lover’s, pushing the two together. Sasuke sighs at the sleep he just lost, before securing his boots, murmuring how it’s unfair he can’t rest after bringing two people on his own.

“Sas, why’re you leaving?” he glances back at Neji’s sleepy mumble, making his features soften.

“Just report, I’ll be fast.” he reassures him, closing the door when the omega tucks his head on Shikamaru’s chest.

“So, that’s your lovers?” Obito teases, throwing an arm around his shoulder, ruffling his hair.

“No, that’s just my teammates who just likes to cuddles.” he retorts dryly, pushing Obito’s hand out of his now unruly hair.

“Maa, maa, you’re so agressive.” Obito mimics Kakashi, making him puff out a laugh. “Come on, I still need to sleep.” he tugs his cousin to run faster, the two of them on the way to the Hokage Tower.

(A very short AU prompt, soooo.....it’s a Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies....with A/B/O dynamics and Sasuke has the Rinnegan, cause I want to. I would’ve wrote this better if I wasn’t so damn busy...so excuse me for the OOC moments..)

A/N: Thanks for the biblio [1+2, 3], dona--I did not know who Hisoka was before this, so those helped a lot! I did, also, have to reread the Lone Wolf 'verse since from what I understand Hisoka is an AU of that 'verse specifically? If not, please let me know.

Anyway, on rereading Lone Wolf 'verse, here are the facts that I gleaned:

Danzo is Hokage

Hiruzen died of "natural causes" several years before canon

Kakashi "betrayed the village" somehow and is being called Comrade-Killer more prevalently than canon

Asuma is probably dead

Yuuhi Shinku isn't an entire dick (since Uchiha Uzume can think about him without an automatic insult attached)

Shin is still alive (but very slowly dying)

and Kurenai is helping the Uchiha at the very least cover up a meeting with Kakashi outside of the village.

The facts of the Hisoka!AU are:

Shikako was taken to be ROOT

in order to protect those she cared about she mentally/spiritually maimed herself to the point where she no longer counted as "a Shikako" to Gelel

her partner for the final exam was Sai

she escaped/convinced Sai that the point of the final exam was to fake her death and became a fishmonger on the coast of Wind

when Shikako!Prime leaves via Gelel she "wakes up" from said previous mental/spiritual maiming

Kakashi finds her and they're a lovely wolf and cub pair who aim to kill Danzo (and get rid of their loneliness and maybe heal)

... okay, now that I typed all that out, did you mean Hisoka!AU of canon DoS instead of the Hisoka!AU of the Lone Wolf 'verse? Because those are different things, I think. But I kinda figured Hisoka!AU was intrinsically tied to the Lone Wolf 'verse, so, uh, here's a couple of ideas I had in mind:

1) Akimichi Chouza as Rokudaime.

Because after the absolute worst sort of "warmongering, self-cannibalizing, Konoha first" bullshit that Danzo spewed, the village needs someone who recognizes that being the village leader means making and protecting a home worth living in, not just a harsh taskmaster sending his soldiers out to die.

I considered Shikaku!Rokudaime for a similar sort of reason, but it's not as thematic and, also on a personal level, he can't. In a Hisoka!AU, he has to reconcile the fact that he gave one of his children--willingly or not, even if Danzo wiped his memory later--to a man who he already knew would exploit her horrendously. Maybe he didn't know the full extent of ROOT's training (surely not the final exam) but the fact that he was apprehensive and still went through with it is not a good look.

Even if Hisoka and Kakashi do not return to the village proper (and part of me is like, hey! They shouldn't! And I will go into that more in a little bit) he has to make amends to at least her, if not both of them, and he can't be Hokage and bound to prioritize the village over her if he ever wants to succeed.

Chouza, on the other hand, is the only one of the three who never made that decision (I'm still a little side-eyeing the Yamanaka clan, because surely a clan whose whole deal is KNOWING WHEN MENTAL SHENANIGANS IS GOING ON should have seen that with Fu, especially since he was allowed to keep his name and also, probably, had to have clan training to learn the clan jutsu, but maybe it wasn't Inoichi who made that deal? Maybe it was his predecessor. Either way, still mega sketch. I'm a little hand-wavy with Shibi and the Aburame because I headcanon that the Kyuubi largely wiped out what power they had the most out of any of the clans and they were like. Desperate to survive. And didn't have allied clans to bolster them.) And yes, probably that's because as far as fighting styles are concerned, they rely on their clan jutsu which is very recognizable and thus not great for ANBU (in the same way that I imagine the Inuzuka aren't often recruited into ANBU) but it's still a notable fact. The Akimichi are trustworthy pillars of the village and have been since the beginning.

And it helps that of the Nidaime's team, Akimichi Torifu was one of two of the full six who didn't turn into an old corruptible asshole. Sure, we don't necessarily know what happened to him, but he wasn't specifically seen as an old corruptible asshole so I think he's winning. It reflects well on his clan as a whole. Also, given my headcanon of the Akimichi actively cultivating their ties with civilians and also possibly the Daimyo's family they have, alongside military might, financial and political clout.

Anyway, while a possible Tsunade as Rokudaime would have similar vibes (and does, you know, match canon and have those canon reasons for working) in terms of "healing the village" etc. etc. This is a Tsunade whose most bitter cynicism was proven right? And there's no inspirational Naruto to convince her otherwise. And also, Tsunade shouldn't HAVE to clean up Danzo's mess. Like, the minuscule obligation she had to clean up Hiruzen's mess does not apply to Danzo. (It's a little like... Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru were raised to be the ultimate team to take over for Hiruzen except they didn't know it and were dysfunctional. The fact that Hiruzen's death was by Orochimaru's hand and between her and Jiraiya she is the better choice is the only reason why she has that slight obligation to go back to Konoha. Whereas, with Danzo? FUCK THAT NOISE. That's a mess the village needs to resolve on their own. THEY'RE the ones who let it get so bad. THEY'RE the ones who need to deal with it)

And also, another reason why I don't really want Tsunade as Rokudaime is because I kind of like the idea of Kakashi and Hisoka sort of orbiting/paralleling her and Shizune. Like, there's a not-so-secret society of Konoha expatriates who aren't actually missing-nin and both love and hate the village and Tsunade is exasperatedly fond of those two disasters whereas she is sickened by the village. Maybe one day it will have fixed itself enough that she'll go back and visit and whip their Medic Corps into shape, but that is not any time soon!

Also, also, also, and I don't know if you remember this, dona, but in your In Which Someone Attempts to Kidnap Shikamaru, Instead, Inoichi brings up something called the Regency Protocol with Ino in regards to Danzo kidnapping Shikako and brainwashing Shikaku to forget and originally I thought it was some kind of Ino-Shika-Cho contingency plan where the three clans take over the village BECAUSE DANZO IS KIDNAPPING AND MURDERING CHILDREN AND THE SANDAIME WAS LETTING IT HAPPEN ON HIS WATCH? And of the three clans, the Akimichi really do have the traditional fighting prowess to wear the hat, so that's part of this too.

I just think an Akimichi Hokage would be pretty chill about it. Like. They wear power well and are good at managing people without crushing them in the fist of tyranny.

2) Maito Gai as Rokudaime.

This one actually for similar reasons as Chouza. Although, in terms of lineage, Gai could be Shichidaime, not that we're particularly holding to that Hokage teacher-student lineage so much.

In terms of semi-parallels where canon goes Tsunade to Kakashi, that means Gai also is a candidate. And in regards to showing the village/world a new kind of Hokage, he's as far from Danzo as one could get. He's straightforward and kind and draws out the potential from everyone and honestly real great but also wouldn't send someone into a mission he himself wouldn't do. Obviously, being a Hokage would mean delegating and sending shinobi on missions, but he would never send them out to die just because. Yes there are risky missions, but he would send those best suited to succeed with every tool available to them so they can succeed. Whereas Danzo would just throw bodies at a problem and kill the survivors for not doing it good enough.

The main difference between a Rokudaime Gai vs Rokudaime Chouza is that Gai's Konoha would rely less on the clan system. Of his three students, two were not from clans and the third is from the Hyuuga Branch (AND YOU KNOW FOR SURE THAT'S GOING TO BE SOMETHING FINALLY ADDRESSED BY A HOKAGE BECAUSE WHAT THE FUCK). Yes, his sensei was Akimichi Chouza, but neither of his teammates were clan either. A Konoha under the rule of Rokudaime Gai is a Konoha that builds up those who don't have the same infrastructure as clans, who strengthens civilian-born and clan-born alike, who make sure that talented civilian-born students aren't only noticed by predatory old men who can sweep there existences under the rug.

Because truly one of the many ways that Danzo's weird self-hating megalomania harmed the village was by draining away the talented civilian-borns of Konoha. He who hated that the Shimura were a near-civilian clan, committed the worst crimes against those who could have proved that bloodline wasn't everything. He was so obsessed with the power of the Sharingan that it became a self fulfilling prophecy. Any talented non-bloodline student who could have proven a challenge were stolen and smothered before they could prove themselves.

Because imagine this: one day some random student with the ubiquitous last name of Satou or Tanaka or Honda beats Uchiha Itachi in a spar. Maybe its an accident. Maybe they got lucky. Maybe Itachi wasn't taking them seriously (after all, what could some no name civilian born do to him?). But those maybes don't matter. Satou or Tanaka or Honda gets in one good hit. The teacher takes a note of it. Talks about it in the teacher's lounge. One of Danzo's spies brings news of that notable spar.

By the next week--maybe even the next day--Satou or Tanaka or Honda is gone. No one beats Uchiha Itachi in a spar anymore. And ROOT adds another nameless, faceless soldier to its ranks.

BUT NONE OF THAT HAPPENS UNDER HOKAGE MAITO GAI. Because it is civilians that make Konoha a village and not just a loose coalition of clans. Because a name and a bloodline are not necessary to make a person great.

3) And here's the angsty/semi-bleak option: Yuuhi Kurenai as Rokudaime.

And I wrote a little bit for it, but I'm a little... mreh... about it because it does revolve a lot around the various men in her life which I'm not exactly proud of, tbh, but aaaaaaaaaagh this is endemic to a lot of Naruto fic. D:<

Yuuhi Kurenai is nobody's first choice.

(She was Asuma's first choice, and he was hers, and that had nothing to do with either of their fathers. Except now Asuma is--)

Her father wanted a son. A proper heir. Someone to elevate the prestige of the Yuuhi clan.

(In another universe, Yuuhi Shinku will think the only way his daughter can benefit the clan is through marriage, not her own merits. In this universe Yuuhi Shinku is a little bit more open minded enough to make do. He's still a dick, but not as much of one as he could've been. This puts Kurenai in an interesting position.)

The Uchiha clan are pursuing another ally with a little more fire power, a little more name recognition, and all the intimidation and influence that entails.

(But look at where that got Kakashi, exiled and with his reputation in tatters. Look at Gai who so eagerly and overtly wants to follow. Look at Asuma who--)

The rest of the village would prefer someone who didn't look so much like the clan of would be traitors. Someone who didn't have black hair and piercing red eyes. Someone who didn't specialize in genjutsu, an art for liars.

(Oh, but they were fine quietly suffering under a man who lied and stole and murdered. A man who manipulated and cheated and framed others for his crimes. A man who ruined everything he touched and Asuma tried to stop him, gods, but then he--)

And the world doesn't quite know what to do with a Hokage like her. Or a Kage that is a her, for that matter.

Yuuhi Kurenai is nobody's first choice.

But that's fine. She can make do.

She can make miracles out of nothing.

So the thought process to get to a Rokudaime Kurenai went kind of like such. Obviously, the Uchiha would prefer an Uchiha Hokage. However that largely depends on whether they succeed in their coup or not. There's the distinct possibility that Kakashi plus Shikako!Prime or Kakashi plus Hisoka will just kill Danzo and then leave, forcing the rest of the village deal with the consequences... AS THEY SHOULD... and thus also sort of cutting the coup off at the knees.

If the coup doesn't succeed (whether out of failure or because Kakashi and a Shikako kills Danzo first before they're prepared to do the rest of the coup) then if the political climate actually matches the one they perceive themselves being in (although, I don't think the Uchiha are as hated as they think they are, but its hard for them to see that isolated as they've been forced to be) then they're unlikely to get an Uchiha Hokage especially if news of them actually seeking an alliance with Comrade-Killer Hatake Kakashi comes out. Much less the aborted/failed coup.

Anyway, no Uchiha Hokage without a successful coup... although, if there were a successful coup, the three Uchiha I would think would be even feasible would be Fugaku--boring, bland, but that's what they know. Shisui--friendly, well liked by those outside the clan, has an international reputation. Mikoto--this is largely based on fanon/headcanon, but she was ANBU Captain? That's pretty neat.

But, uh, to get back to the no Uchiha Hokage... Kakashi's reputation is still in tatters. Maito Gai could be a good option, but while his lack of clan is a good thing for future Konoha, he doesn't quite have the political backing necessary to get there. (Namikaze Minato was an undisputed war hero. Maito Gai hasn't quite proven himself that level yet)

If its brought up that the Ino-Shika-Cho were compromised (ie, Shikaku would have worked closely with Hokage Danzo as the Jounin Commander and also one of Danzo's top ROOT agents is Yamanaka Fu) then even Chouza's candidacy would be suspect.

The village wants Tsunade. But Tsunade does not want it. I have no fucking idea what Jiraiya has been up to, but if he didn't want the hat after Hiruzen died he sure as fuck won't want it after whatever Danzo's done with it.

The Hokage's Council is suspect. Yuuhi Shinku, for all that he is similarly important to the infrastructure of Konoha while also not being part of Danzo's corruption (in another universe, he very well would have been, desperate for power), isn't actually that strong and is old, besides. (The village has had enough of old men entrenched in positions of power telling them what to do).

But he does have a daughter. Genjutsu specialist, yes, but with potential and room to grow. And Sarutobi Asuma loved her (and, fuck, what a shitty campaign to run on, the would-have-been-widow of the Sandaime's son, but you know Shinku would be ruthless in pushing that. Remember, not as much of a dick in other 'verses, but still a dick) so she has that tether to the old regime, tentative as it is.

No one really has any major objections, but no one is really all that gung-ho about it either (except for maybe Anko who will punch all detractors in the face and may very well be a one woman Hokage's Guard).

Kurenai least of all. Because she doesn't want to be Hokage, but she'd rather step up and do it than watch her village tear itself apart even further. And maybe she doesn't know who she is just yet, and maybe it sucks that she's going to have to discover that while also being Hokage, but gods she's going to try her best because at least she knows what Danzo was doing was wrong and that there's no way she can do worse than him unless she just actively slaughtered children in the street.

...

Hm, yeah, kinda bleak ending. But as I said. The Rokudaime Kurenai one is the angsty-bleak option. I mean, it gets more hopeful, but it is a struggle I think for both her and the village.

An Unforgettable Reunion

The Inu Gang, Sesshomaru’s pack, their children, a resurrected Toga and Kirinmaru were having trouble beating an old rival of Sara, Hebimaru. Inuyasha grunted, “Dammit! Nothing works on this guy!” All of them were getting tired as Sesshomaru was on his knees Hebimaru taunted, “So this is the family and fiance of my rival? You’re all pathetic! No wonder she died too early and by the most shameful death as well! She couldn’t even live longer to meet her half-breed of a brother!” Something in Sesshomaru snapped as he muttered, “sister” he blocked an oncoming attack with the sword his sister gave to him, the Bakusaiga. He remembered the times when his father was too busy ruling the lands to train him and his sister was the one who taught him everything he needed to know to protect not only himself but those he cared for as well, he hated, no resent it when demons and humans alike insult and degrade his sister in front of him, he will and always protect his sister’s honor, dead or alive. There was one clear memory, the day before his sister’s demise when he was training he heard some of his father’s warriors talk about her saying that she’s a disgrace and that she’s a useless hybrid since she isn’t a full-blooded dog demon or a full-blooded deer demon. That night when he found his sister wearing a normal kimono in her garden he dashed to her, “Sister! What is a hybrid?” He remembered her shock before it turned to that of sorrow as she knelt down to hug him close to her. At that time, my sister cried for my sake… yet she carried on her duties not for the clan, but for me, she cried knowing that I might never will be the heir to the Western lands. Sesshomaru, with a newfound rage he shakily stood up and harshly glared at Hebimaru, “It doesn’t matter if she was pathetic or a great warrior” his eyes turned red as he growled, “I will never forgive anyone who dare insult my sister’s memory” Sesshomaru lunged at the snake demon, “That’s why, for her sake and honor, I will not be slain by scum like you!” All of them were shocked when the attack Sesshomaru sent took effect, successfully breaking Hebimaru’s armor. Sesshomaru raged as he delivered an onslaught of attacks, “This is for my sister, and this, is for insulting all of the sacrifices she had done for the Western lands, for her mother, our clan, our family and for me!” No one had ever seen Sesshomaru this angry before, he was usually calm and collected during a battle but it seems that Sara’s death must’ve made an incredible impact in his life. Towa, “This is the first time I’ve seen dad get that angry.” Setsuna nodded in agreement, “Aunt Sara must’ve been very important to him.” Inuyasha and his daughter, Moroha shivered a bit in fear with Toga and Kirinmaru had the look of regret, knowing that they unintentionally contributed to Sara’s death. Hebimaru screamed in agony as the attacks were so painful he couldn’t move, his eyes widened in fear when Sesshomaru landed in front of his crumpled form as the aura around the InuDaiYokai resembled that of the Shika no Taisho. Hebimaru didn’t even notice before it was too late as his head was beheaded by none other than Sesshomaru who had a satisfied look in his eyes, “And this is for calling her a pathetic hybrid.” With all of the adrenaline gone, Sesshomaru dropped to his knees, bakusaiga clattering beside him as the grief he bottled for centuries burst, his twin daughters and his father tried to comfort him but to no avail couldn’t help him as the haunting memory of his sister’s almost unrecognizable corpse flashed in his mind. Feeling wind pass behind him, he paid no mind to it but his eyes widened in shock when he felt the familiar scent, embrace and voice of his sister. Sara, “It’s alright brother, sister is here now.” Sesshomaru turned and there she stood in all her glory, armor and all, it seems the heavens did listen to his prayers and gave her a chance. Without wasting any more time he hugged his sister tightly as tears of joy flowed down his cheeks as Sara soothed him like how she used to when they were young. Seeing his daughter resurrected, Toga immediately joined the hug, muttering words of praise and apologies to his eldest children for the pain he brought. After letting each other go Sara simply nodded at Inuyasha who nodded back, Sara turned her attention to Kirinmaru who was still frozen in his spot before he took a step towards her with Sara doing the same. As the two lovers slowly approached the other as if they were afraid that they will wake up from a dream before they ran towards each other meeting at the middle, Kirinmaru captured her in his embrace, twirling them around taking in her scent and warmth with the thoughts She’s alive, by the gods above, she returned repeating in his head like a mantra. Both of them let out teary smiles, finally reunited with the person they love.

There is a weekly dinner with team Shika-ino-choj that slowly starts to expand out to include their girlfriends/wives. Every week someone new has to cook, which is fine because everyone learns how to cook just a little better (and boy does kakashi appreciate that shikaku can finally cook something thats not poision)

But then Yoshino decides to test Kakashi's ability to live on his own by inviting him to this dinner and telling him its his turn to cook

Inoichi and choza think they're in luck. Kakashi is about to make their cooking look steller

Shikaku knows better and is not at all surprised to get home with his friends the night of dinner to find specified dishes at each seat. Everyone's favorite, no two dishes alike, with snacks and drinks in the middle of the table.

Kakashi has been cooking all day just to prove that not only can he cook one dish, he can cook 7 diffrent dishes and they will all taste amazing
