Shikadai & Himawari (ShikaHima) becoming canon would be such an adorable thing. And if you disagree, remember that if they got together,Naruto,Shikamaru & Gaara would become family.

SHIKAHIMA HEADCANONS III
-hima loves pulling pranks just like dear old dad but always asks for shikadai's input before she pulls something awfully crafty
-when shikadai makes chuunin before everyone else (it's in the cards, face it), hima doesn't bother planning a surprise party; they instead have a tea ceremony because having a party is "too troublesome"
-shika lets hima paint his nails begrudgingly (to the consternation of him and the delight of his teammates), but doesn't complain about her use of eyeliner and mascara on him
-hima introduces shika to calligraphy once she learns that he hangs up every painting she gives him; she hangs up the poetry he writes in return
-every time boruto or naruto tries to spy on one of their dates they talk to one another in a code they made up themselves; they're both equally confused and terrified at this development
i will continue this series as long as i can! even if i have to fill up the tag my goddamn self

Breath [2] Shikahima series
Spring was showing it's teeth more and more as the days pasted by. Each day it seemed to heat up and the sun seemed to stay out longer than usual. It was bright, and bolder it seemed. I let the sun melt against  my skin, it itself was burning my fair skin but the rays felt like a warm clothe. For protection I put on sunscream. It was a little to easy for me to bake in the sun.
"It's a pretty day." I exclaimed as I glanced at him.
Shikadai, on the other hand was trying to hide from the sun in the little shade there was today. He sat against the tree as I rocked back and forth on the chair swing.
The blossoms of it still hung proudly. There are red and yellow tullips placed here. I remember when I was younger my mother and I grew these tulliops, and the mint, we even put the chair swing here for decoration. The branch that it hung from was sturdily.
I slowly turned around and glimpsed at him. His eye's were closed.. I honestly don't now how we stayed friends all this time. I guess I only really conncted with him but a few years ago. But I have known him for forever. Our familes are so intertwined.
Shikadai have always been so nice to me.  Always. People in Konaha was always nice. So why did he stand out so much to me? He was ordinary. Lazy but ordinary. So what was the difference?
Maybe that is why I like him so much. Because he could be so nice. I blushed slightly while thinking about it. I remember when I was younger I gave him chocolate  cookies on Christmas. I made sure to run all the way the so they were warm when he ate them. By the time I was there I was out of breath and frozen. I wonder if he remembers. I remember it like it was yesterday.
After awhile of sitting by myself I moved by him. My head layed on the  soft green grass. For a second I just looked at him. How the sun illumanated him. How peaceful he looked. To me it was all so beautiful.
I slowly got closer to him. I slightly put my hand on him chest and closed my eyes. I attempted to take him in. I wonder if he was doing the same for me. I'd be flattered if he was.

MORE SHIKAHIMA HEADCANONS, OKAY
-hima ends up being an early bloomer like her mom and shika doesn't like the way boys look at her even though he's equally as guilty
-shika doesn't like holidays as much as hima does but at christmastime he makes sure to place mistletoe around the house
-hima, having a water chakra nature, forms clouds in the shape of hearts and pineapples to make him smile
-himawari is a master of the puppy eyes jutsu(TM) but when shikadai uses it on rare occasions if at all she dies a little inside

Interesting things happen whenever I converse with annalovesfiction. This fic is fast forwarding to when the next gen are teenagers.
Asking Nicely Pairing: Shikadai & Himawari Sypnosis: Himawari’s learnt a thing or two about asking nicely from her parents.
___
It was well known through Konoha that the Nara clan were a lazy bunch. Dependable and respected, but undeniably a lazy bunch geniuses.
And Shikadai was not unlike the other born and bred Nara’s. He was more likely to be seen lying eyes closed under a tree rather than helping his friends decode and organise antique scrolls.
Which made this trip completely useless, Boruto concluded in his mind, because Shikadai would refuse to help because he couldn’t be bothered at all.
“Why are we doing this again?” he whined. “Why can’t we just go straight to Shikamaru instead? You know that Shikadai’s going to decline to help straight away.”
“Because this isn’t urgent and Shikamaru is busy,” his ever logical teammate replied. “Besides, stop whining Boruto. You’re almost twenty for goodness sake.”
Boruto pouted.
A chuckle came from his sister beside him and he noticed that she was carrying a small food container.
That’s right, his brain registered. Hima has a big crush on Shikadai.
In a style like their mother’s, Himawari took one look at Shikadai, back when they were children, and attached herself to him like a koala bear. It didn’t look like Shikadai minded at all; he never rebuffed her. Hell, even if he had minded, he was probably too lazy to rebuff her.
He wondered if his sister knew that she was probably courting a dead log.
Boruto was so deep into his thought, he didn’t realise that they’d arrived at the Nara household.
“Boruto, Sarada and Himawari,” Temari greeted warmly. “What brings you lot out and about?”
“Hello Temari-san,” Sarada smiled. “We’re looking for Shikadai to help us with something. Is he home?”
Temari pointed behind her. “He’s in the backyard. Napping like always. It’ll do him some good to see people and actually do something for the day.”
“That is, if he wakes up and doesn’t refuse to look at our scrolls,” Boruto mumbled.
Temari barked out a laugh. “Ha! Just shove him a bit to wake him up. And tell him that I told him to do it, that trick works half the time.”
“I’ll ask him if you want, Boruto-nii,” chimed in Himawari. “He always says yes when I ask nicely.”
Temari paused in her action and flicked Himawari a thoughtful look. “Oh really?”
Himawari nodded. “Sure. Shikadai always spars with me when I ask him to.”
Shock flashed over Sarada and Temari’s face. So it wasn’t a surprise that when Himawari left, Sarada and Temari had already camped by the window to watch them.
Weird, Boruto thought. He went to join them anyway.
 -
Alarm pricked Shikadai’s skin as soon as he felt a warm body sit beside him. The feeling doubled when he felt a daisy crown flitter on top of his head and his nose picked up the hint of vanilla in the air.
He sighed, waving a regretful goodbye to a delicious day of rest.
“What do you want, Hima?”
Uzumaki Himawari smiled, unbothered by the rumble in his tone. “Sit up Shikadai, I have a treat for you.”
His eyes cracked open a slither, eyeing her with suspicion. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”
“Well what makes you think I want something? Maybe I was just dropping off the taro mochis I made you this morning.”
Oh, she definitely wanted something. His favourite handmade mochis always came with a price. “You want me to do you a favour don’t you? Figures. You always want me to do something...”
“Maybe I’m compensating for your lack of wanting,” she said. “Because it’s pretty much known that you want nothing at all.”
“Not true,” he said. “I don’t have a lack of wanting. Right now, I want you to feed me the mochi and let me nap in peace.”
That made her giggle, her happiness flowing over him like melted honey. “Then you’ll choke silly. If you want the mochi, you’ll have to get up.”
Shikadai let out a long, pained, mournful groan and lugged his body into sitting position. His eyes fell on her twinkling blue eyes. Then it fell to mochi box and the scrolls in her hands. Apprehension swelled in his chest.
“So Boruto-nii and Sarada-chan are refining jutsu scrolls for dad right-“
“No.”
“-and they were stuck, getting pretty frustrated too, on some particularly tricky jutsus-“
“No.”
“-and I thought to myself, ‘Who better to solve these scrolls than the cleverest, smartest person I know-”
“Hell no.”
“Because you are, you know,” she continued with her cheeks slightly red, “You are the smartest guy I know.”
His resolve wavered at her compliment.
“Oh no,” she said, her eyes focusing on his head. “Your crown’s all wonky! Let me fix that for you.”
What are you doing? Shikadai thought to himself. Don’t let her get too close, stupid! You let her get too close and that’s it. You’re done for. You lose your peace, your relaxation and the rest of your day.
His body didn’t move an inch.
Himawari leaned forward, sweet as peaches, hot as peppers, the combination wreaking havoc on his senses. She placed her a hand on his chest, sending warmth trickling through his nerves. Her other hand stopped midway to fiddling with the crown on his head. His blood heated.
“Please do them for me,” she whispered, giving his cheek a small stroke with the back of her hand.
He flushed and scowled. “Stop trying to manipulate me.”
“Is it working?”
“No,” he grumbled. Then he sighed as took the scrolls out of her hands and muttered as he scanned over them.
Himawari giggled and patted his cheek. “Thank you, Shikadai.”
Boruto found his jaw stuck to the ground, Sarada mirrored his actions. Behind them Temari guffawed like a madwoman. His sweet, little sister using her feminine wiles? His sweet little sister having feminine wiles?!
“What was that?” he said disbelief. “Is that what I think that was?”
“I don’t know,” Sarada said in admiration.
“Because if that’s what I think that looked like, and I hope it’s sincerely not what I think it looked like, then she’s way too young to be doing that kind of stuff and Shikadai better know this.” His hand had armed, without his full awareness, a glinting kunai. Boruto eyed Shikadai with intent.
Temari shook her head, a smile on her face.
“Kid, you are exactly like your dad,” Temari remarked as she put her hand on Boruto’s shoulder, an appreciative tone lingered in her voice. “Just like how your sister is exactly like your mum.”

heart talk | naruto
pairings; naruhina, borusara, shikahima
notes; teenage uzumakis talking about their parents because #relationshipgoals
notess; i'd prefer it if boruto and sarada stayed friends/comrades/rivals for now, but i wouldn’t at all mind them getting together when they’re older
notesss; i’m assuming the shikahima age gap is small, like maybe around three years
~
“Kiss him. French him. Fuck him, even. Just, just be with him. Because that’s what Mom and Dad are. They’re with each other. Always.”
~
There is a certain amount of restraint that Naruto and Hinata practice around their children when they are young. Slobbery kisses are kept to a minimum, make outs are left for when they’re the only ones home, and sex, for a time, is completely and uncompromisingly avoided, unless they’re feeling particularly lustful for skin. All in all, the parents try to keep as innocent an environment around the house as possible, deciding that their children can learn more about the world of intimacy when they’re older.
Older inevitably meaning when Himawari turns sixteen.
Of course, by this time, Boruto has already been exposed to some of his parent’s love antics, namely, their kitchen counter make outs and in-bed tickle fights. The first time he caught them doing anything remotely frisky was when he was seventeen--they were frenching intensely in a storage closet--and he’s now twenty-one. Naruto and Hinata’s desperation for each other’s skin has ceased to bewilder their son, sparking some annoyance in him only when he can’t concentrate over their shrieks and giggles.
The morning after her birthday, Himawari sees her mother press a long-lasting kiss to her husband’s lips before he leaves for work. As she and her older brother file out after their father, the raven haired jonin gushes and says, “Our parents are positively adorable, aren’t they, big brother?”
Boruto snorts and mutters something under his breath before replying, “Yeah. Positively adorable.” The fact that his sister is still blissfully unaware of how touchy-feely their parents are makes him grin. He wonders what her first awkward encounter with them will be like. Now that she’s sixteen, it’s inevitable that she catch them in the act. Maybe she’ll be luckier than him and actually walk in on them doing something unforgettably dirty. That would make him laugh.
“Seriously, though!” Himawari says. “I mean, who wouldn’t give for a relationship like that? Shikadai’s a nice kisser, but getting him to kiss me in the first place is like asking pigs to fly.”
“Maybe you should break up with him.” Close friends though he and Shikadai are, Boruto has never approved of the pineapple-head dating his little sister. He is fiercely overprotective of Himawari, and the fact that Temari can beat her son to a pulp if he does something wrong only comforts Boruto a little. For the most part, he tries to avoid the topic of his sister entirely when in the Nara heir’s presence, instead making small talk about S-rank missions and their fathers’ camaraderie.
Himawari, not having taken his comment well, delivers a swift punch to his gut and then struts off, diverting her conversation from his attention to Naruto’s. The Seventh listens to her eagerly and blushes when she bumbles about his relationship with his wife. Naruto is guiltily aware of the fact that she doesn’t know of the true nature of her parents’ relationship, and a part of him wishes to keep it that way, though he knows this is impossible. Right now, she is sixteen, but if she and Shikadai stay together for a few more years, he can imagine they’ll be doing much of the same, intimate things that any romantic relationship eventually insinuates. In a way, it almost makes him happy: to know that someone will touch her the way he touches his own wife.
“Yo, Pops,” Boruto interjects, breaking Naruto’s train of thought. He drapes his hand over his father’s left shoulder and says cheekily, “For the record, I think you and mom are positively adorable. Really.”
Now it’s Naruto’s turn to snort. The Hokage brushes off his arm’s son and replies, grinning, “Tell me that when you have a girlfriend.” Boruto, obviously offended, attempts to make a comeback, but all that escapes his lips is a mangled sort of sound. Himawari giggles uncontrollably as their father walks away in the direction of the Hokage’s office, and Boruto turns to shoot her a bewildered look.
“Am I missing something?” he asks, but this only causes her to further lose it. His little sister bangs a fist against her knee and tears up at the eyes, cackling hysterically. “Dumb--ass--!”
“What?” He jogs over to her and slaps a hand across her back as she breaks out into fits of coughing. “You know--what I’m--talking--about--!” she manages to choke out, vague as ever.
“No, I don’t,” Boruto insists, and Himawari finally groans. The aggravated stare she fixes him with makes him squirm, and Boruto directs his gaze to the ground in an effort to avoid eye contact. He runs through a list of Konoha nin his age, but none of them seem to have ever held an interest in him. Or at least, not an interest that goes past the fact of him being the Seventh’s son.
As Himawari’s eyebrows flatten a bit, she looks at her brother with a sisterly sort of sympathy. “Haven’t you ever wanted something like that? Like what Mom and Dad have?”
“Well, that depends. What exactly do Mom and Dad have?”
Himawari’s response is immediate: “Closeness. Faith." She dims her voice down to a whisper.
“Their own language.”
And almost as if someone had stabbed him with a real kunai, it hits him.
That he and Sarada have their own, secret way of communication is a fact known universally. Developed in their younger years, the language consists of them drawing words into the skin of each other’s palms when they are close. It presents a sound tactic when they are fighting back-to-back, which is coincidentally how they battle on their missions more than anything. Mitsuki has warned them again and again of the method’s disadvantages, namely that they’ll be left unable to communicate in the usual manner if they’re separated, but Boruto and Sarada understand each other so subliminally as it is that they aren’t quite bothered by the fact.
“Yo- you’re kidding,” he stammers, but Himawari shakes her head ‘no’. The smile that crosses her lips is a sad one. “She’s been waiting ages for you to say something. Everyone knows it. Everyone except you.”
Boruto curses under his breath and grabs his hair by the braid, twirling it anxiously around his finger. As he and Himawari stand in the shadow of the Hokage’s building, the sun starts to rise, a signal for all shinobi to start their day. The thought of Sarada crossing his path within the hour makes him feel sick to his stomach. She isn’t aware of the fact, but Naruto is assigning them to a week long mission today. And Mitsuki, conveniently, is on a solo mission as a member of the ANBU, so he won’t be with them.
Are he and Sarada really like his parents? he wonders. They certainly don’t whisper love into each other’s skin or find a need to bite each other senseless. And Buddha knows how many irrational arguments they’ve gotten into in comparison to his parents’ virtually none. To top it all off, Sarada has never seemed to express the slightest bit of romantic interest in him. The closest thing he can equate to her caring about him is the way she handles him when he’s wounded: with delicacy, concern, and so, so much fear.
Oh.
Well, it’s not like he sees her that way anyway. She is his friend--his best friend--and he could never think of her like that. Not even if the way her hair has started to fall past her shoulders makes her look more graceful, or the way she smiles at him makes his heart pound a little. Not even if the number of times she’s willingly endangered herself have kept him from being able to breathe.
Oh shit. Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit.
“Big bro--”
“Mom and Dad are more than you think, okay?” he blurts out. Himawari blinks. “They’re like. . . disgusting. But in a good way. A good disgusting. So be that with him. With Shikadai. Okay?”
“I’m sorry, I don’t think I und--”
“Kiss him. French him. Fuck him, even. Just, just be with him. Because that’s what Mom and Dad are. They’re with each other. Always.”
“Oh, yeah?”
Boruto whips his head around so fast he thinks he hears it crack. Himawari, apparently stunned by her brother’s sudden burst of emotion, does not turn her head until a few seconds later, and when she does, her mouth drops a few more millimeters. Sarada stands at the foot of the walkway leading up to the Hokage’s building, a pleasant smile played out on her lips. She strides up to the siblings with an amused look in her eyes, and as Boruto turns to completely face her, she stares at him with an expression he doesn’t recognize until now as being one filled with love.
“I didn’t think you could be so sentimental,” she says, slowly but surely closing the space between them. Boruto doesn’t react when she brings their foreheads together. He just closes his eyes, breathes in the scent of pine at her neck, and feels the pads of their fingers touch. “Did you mean it?” she asks, voice barely above a whisper.
He isn’t the one to answer. Himawari, coming up from behind, stands up on her tip-toes to plant a kiss on his cheek. She can see Shikadai making his way up the pebble path, and at the thought of their ramen plans for tonight, she smiles. Maybe, she thinks, they’ll ask Sarada and Boruto if they're up for a double date. Maybe.
“Yes, yes, he did.”
