I really really need to make a pairing tag / ship name for Erlina/Elysan x Brugaves/Barma.

These two are a couple of my favourite characters in the game.. and yes, I absolutely ship them. They were best friends as kids, and they basically grew up vowing to protect each other and liberate their world (alas, in all the wrong ways..) so they could be together. I feel like these two are the kind who grew into love as they got older and realized how they feel as adults.

The pairing tag will eventually be useful.. should I ever finish the pile of Erlina/Brugaves fics I have in my WIPs..

I have a few, being:

Snake Eyes (after that ending? absolutely..)

Starcrossed Lovers (haha, celestial event joke)

Tangled Antlers (they've both got horns of some kind!)

I've been trying to think of one related to goats since they both seem to be half ungulate of some kind.. though Elysan'Darëlle seems more like a horse than Barma'thazël, who looks like a ram.

Badyah doesn't mind getting pulled along on one of Norma's investigations or adventures as long as Norma takes her seriously as an important part of the team, too.

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): I'm happy to say I have never stopped blorbo-ing Jack Vessalius in 4 years, have bestowed on him the highest honor (the aroace headcanon) and by this point i'm downright projecting. Of course I can't not mention Oswald/Glen because when you ship something so hard you don't know who was the original blorbo and who's just so integral to the way you view them that they might as well have been the original blorbo. Oh and for the record, these two are *also* my poor little meow meows and my horse plinkos. idk I do have something extreme going on haha, which is to say that I have the unbearable urge to make everything better in the fanfiction world, but I also have the unbearable urge to make it even worse. Mostly for sympathy though, thus the plmm part. 😂 with that out of the way for the sake of this meme i'll go with the second best answer for the other two questions <3

scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): just.... Elliot Nightray. I mean look at him! Petting stray cats and starting fights with strangers over blorbos! There's just, there's just so much of me in there!

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) : ADA. god i love her so much and want to protect her forever but i also think she's incredibly human and playful and wise, like she's actually the only sane adult in spite of the toxicity she puts up with! 🥺 It reminds me that I got the opportunity to write a fic from her pov once for a zine and that makes me v happy <3 (and then i forgot to publish it on ao3 i should edit it and do that someday) Also her uncle Oscar tbh. I really love their vibes.

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) oof i'm not sure i have much in terms of obscure faves in PH, part of that because Mochizuki takes the time to decently develop even supporting characters (often better than main characters *cough* black alice *cough*) Miranda Barma maybe? I mean we share a blorbo and all

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) Levi Baskerville. I find him hilarious, he has the rotten luck of a Baskerville and I have so little sympathy for him as a person that I think he's perfect for that specific genre of crack/comedy where nothing ever goes his way.

eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) Xai Vessalius, Ada's dad, for being an insane abusive pos and yet still being so very human and hurt that I care enough to eeby deeby him.

Warning/s: Description of eye-plucking and probably some spoilers for those who haven't finished Pandora Hearts.

Red eyes were a telltale sign of a Child of Misfortune. They were often a point of discrimination and their bearers were almost always shunned. Those who did accept Children of Misfortune found themselves in an early grave; their regrets were left in the wind.

"Such pretty eyes..."

Kevin hated his eyes. Every look in the mirror reminded him of the horrors he went through all because of a pair of eyes. It haunted his dreams and plagued his thoughts as servants stared at pointed at him. He kept to himself, unwilling to divulge any part of himself or his past to people as shallow as them.

Kevin Regnard had a quest he needed to finish.

"Your eye... It's..."

Kevin hated his eyes the color of blood. Suffice it to say that he also hated conversations regarding them. It did not matter if Reim Lunettes meant no harm or was just making small talk as Duchess Sheryl and Duke Barma had tea in the garden.

Without another word, he pushed himself off the windowsill and marched off, ignoring Reim's stammered calls and the worried look Lady Sharon sent his way.

"I'll have to pluck out the other eye..."

Kevin hated his eye and the way he screamed himself awake. He could still feel it. He could still feel her fingers digging into his sockets, digging out the nerves and plucking his eye out like she would a ripe berry. He could remember how painless it had initially been until she drew her hand away and he wanted nothing more than death.

Sleep would evade him during such nights and Kevin Regnard remained a ghost of a man, tormented by his past.

And for a while, he was alright with that.

"Your eyes... They're beautiful."

Lady Shelly was a formidably strong woman underneath her silk dresses and her failing health. She single-handedly raised a dying man back to life as she showed him kindness and allowed him as much time as he needed to recover.

It was time that she did not have.

Her hands combed through his silver hair humming softly as she did. The smell of flowers filled the air. He could hear the sound of rustling grass. His eye was closed and he could see the black and white checkered tiles, the shelves of dolls; a white girl and a red cat. He was instantly afraid.

Lady Shelly must have noticed because she paused in her humming and continued. Young Lady Sharon was laughing as she approached her mother and presented her with a flower crown.

"You mustn't raise your voice too much, Sharon," Lady Shelly softly said. "He is asleep."

The little girl gave a gasp and he opened his eye.

"I am awake, Lady Shelly," he informed her, unwilling to raise his head from her lap for the time being.

"Ah... I see... Your eyes are beautiful..."

Lady Shelly's smiles were muted and lackluster, but they were by no means insincere. Her smiles were not meant to make one smile. They were meant to remind him of this garden, the flowers, her fingers running through his hair, the sound of Sharon's laughter, the smell of grass and time as it ticks.

Her smiles grounded him, more than his eyes awoke nightmares and memories he wanted to but should not forget.

Kevin Regnard hated his eyes. Fortunately, Xerxes Break was a tolerant one.

Maybe I should space out my Pandora Hearts reblogs... I only have 2 more volumes left. I know already that I will reread it someday in order to see all of the connections that were in the story from the start that I didn’t notice. I am really in a rereading mood latelly. 2020 is the year I rediscover my love of rereading.

Some random thoughts so far (spoilers ahead):

Me at the start of the manga: I want to kick Vincent. Me almost at the end of the manga: You are still a bit problematic but I love you. A baby. I understand. (Also I ship you and Ada more than everyone else wth how and why)

Me at the start of the manga: Gilbert is fine but a bit boring. Not as complex as some other characters. Me almost at the end of the manga: How did you get to top 10 favs and became like that?

Me at the start of the manga: Echo doesn't have much of a personality. Me almost at the end of the manga: Fav! Also I ship Oz x Echo even if they don't have that many scenes together.

Me at the start of the manga: Hmmm not sure if I trust this blonde dude. Me almost at the end of the manga: I was right. Fuck you, Jack.

Me in the middle of the manga: Hmmm pretty sure Oz is a chain. And the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. He has the clock and everything. Me almost at the end of the manga: Called it. It was either him or Jack. 

Oscar and Ada are the most wholesome characters in the series. I love them so much.

I expected more of Break since he seems to be a favourite of many people. I love him, but I love some other characters more.

Alice seems to be the least interesting character. It’s weird because she has a really interesting backstory, and yet... she doesn’t seem as complex and fun to analyse. There is a reason for that, but still...

My favourites and the ones I have the most fun analysing are Oz, Jack, Vincent, Lacey, Gilbert, Echo, Break, Elliot and the Glens in general. I am also very interested in Sheryl Rainsworth and Barma and I feel like I still haven’t seen enough of them.

Favorite character: ugh it’s SO HARD, but I’ll go with the Main Trio, because they are soft and give me warm feelings! I love how all of them are struggling with memory loss and trauma, and how differently they fight it. They aren’t perfect, but they mean so much. Honorable mentions are Vincent and Lacie, far more problematic characters. but also the ones I relate to the most in some weird way.

Least Favorite character: Idk, like, Miranda? I still don’t get why she wanted Oswald’s head?? was she just real crazy??? that it?????

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Oswald/Jack (husbands!), Elliot/Leo (boyfriends!!), Oz/Gilbert (lovers... not in the part where Oz is 15 though. I’m generally keeping an opinion that Oz is an eldritch bunny monster so age doesn’t matter that much in his case, but before he regains his memories even he doesn’t know that. Gilbert definitely doesn’t, and he’d never go for it with a 15yo), Break/Reim (soft!!) aaaand, ugh, Ada/Vanessa (softer!!!!)

Character I find most attractive: ♥Lacie♥ And then after Lacie... Fang!!! Don’t @ me, he’s big and gentle and wields a giant sword, I don’t ask for much in a man. (but also Lacie is like, holy shit, the whole new lvl)

Character I would marry: honestly, Lacie would make a great wife for me because she doesn’t like to be controlled and I don’t like controlling people! This union would probably fuck up my sleep schedule and impulse control, but I’m willing to give it up.  Lacie looks like someone you can just... enjoy the world with, together. Isn’t it a thing to live for?

Character I would be best friends with: probably, like, Lotti? (she’s really cool and we would gossip and bitch about every single one of people we know) 

a random thought: well it’s about Lacie again: I think it’s funny how the manga builds her up. By the time she actually shows up she’s, like, a legend. A secret. A mystery. And it makes her great, but it also kinda fucks her character over (I think it was to keep the mystery and panache that author gave her so many contradictory actions, like developing an empathetic relationship with the formless core of the abyss, but then having her rip human into pieces without second thought and dancing in bloody rain)

An unpopular opinion: Victorian England aestetic? ...way overrated. I know I was all over this shit when I was 13 but now, ugh

My Canon OTP: Jack/Oswald, Elliot/Leo... jokes aside, canon pairings are kinda eh

My Non-canon OTP: look above but also specifically post-canon Gil/Oz/Alice. They have such a great dynamic, I swear, and just re-imagining them in more modern times is so much fuuuun

Most Badass Character: Gilbert. 

Most Epic Villain: Jack (Juries were pretty rad too, esp. theme-wise, but Jack’s betrayal was just so visceral) 

Pairing I am not a fan of: Break/Sharon

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): the female ones :) (like I’m sorry to say it because a lot of female characters are powerful and cool and have great potential, but their arks just fall flat next to the male character arks. the only exceptions I can think of are Alice and Echo)

Favourite Friendship: Gil and Oz and Alice! But also entire Baskerville family! 

Character I most identify with: probably Alice? I too can be pretty rude and aggressive and absent, but also I’m really emotionally intelligent and honest? I was surprised to recognize this in her, too, but also pleased

Character I wish I could be: Rufus Barma. Reading books... Pretending he’s a weird baloon man... Pining after a more successful woman for decades... dude’s living the life!

Now FENRIS (but I’ll try to keep it short!)

How I feel about this character: he’s great! I think he stands for very important topics, my fave being relationship to the kind of people who traumatized you. Not, like, the person, but the people. This extrapolation happens a lot in real life, and I don’t see it addressed enough in media? I also like that his personal ark (best case scenario) doesn’t end in just learning to see a person beyond just being a mage or not, or just in a death of his former master, or in acceptance of mages as a whole. He actually goes and fights the problematic people. Physically. What an icon! 

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: mostly just Hawke

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: w Isabella! I don’t think they can really develop romantic thing, but their friendship (even with benefits) is so sweet!

My unpopular opinion about this character: ...I honestly don’t know what’s popular, and feel like a grandma about it

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: better relationship with Anders, duh. Like, I know I just said his hatred for mages is kinda cool narrative-wise. But hanging out with someone for 6 years and not being able to empathize with them even a little? really? it just paints them both as really unreasonable. also the constant bickering is kinda annoying. 

Favorite friendship for this character: Bella! but also, you know, the whole Hawke-crew is one big family and I live for that

aaaaaa guys ive been reading this manga since about 7th grade which was abt 2011? for me? and now its 2019 and im almost 22 and like aaa i’ve finally finished it.....im so glad my children are happy....

i have the physical volumes of 1 to 18 so i had to reread 18 at the library and also use the library to get volumes 19-24. i binge read them all earlier tonight and they were so good. i was honestly worried abt the ending being like tegami bachi where lag sacrificed himself but no, gil’s just like 125 i guess and oz and alice got reincarnated + oz has jack’s body which is stuck in a loop of growing up and then turning back into a baby so like he’s physically immortal i guess? like benjamin button? ok? as long as oz, gil, and alice are together, im ok. vince was kinda annoying the whole series for obsessing over his brother but like the last few books of him being like “i hate myself for being a child of ill omen and opening the door to the abyss bc miranda barma told me to” made me be like “oh no vincent you poor bby. u didnt deserve any of this aaaaaaaa” im a bit annoyed that he didnt get together w/ ada at the end tho. the end ship of sharon and reim felt like it came out of nowhere, but i guess when your friends are dead/in the reincarnation cycle and your brother/best friend is also dead, eh? ok? i guess?

Yaasss Anon! Tbh tho whether Ben is spelled or not, I think it’d be an interesting dynamic. Ben has obviously been raised under the “Thou shalt have one female partner only” premise for a long time but maybe a few years post-cotillion (and probably post-Mal), just imagine Harry starting to hit on him in the college hallways and Uma sliding a little closer to him in study hall and Ben going insane like “omg can I like two people? is that a thing?” And Uma’s patient so she’ll wait for him to figure things out (and she makes sure Harry does too). 

Then when Ben thinks he’s finally sorted it out, he walks up to them in one of his cute little vest-suits (casual Friday) and has a whole speech planned out and then he actually sees them and just freezes up. He eventually manages to sputter out his feelings and Harry is trying so hard not to laugh while Uma is just kinda making the ‘aw por boi he’s struggling’ face but luckily they’re “quite fond of” him too (Ben’s words exactly).

BUT OMG DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON DOMESTIC BEN X UMA X HARRY! (Bumarry? Barma? H.U.B.? idk imma call it Bumarry)

Like imagine King Ben coming home from a LONG ass night of working to see his beautiful wife Uma sitting at the kitchen in a rockin pantsuit with a few buttons undone so she can finally breathe. She’s almost as tired as he is since she serves on the council as Head of Villain Affairs and Domestic Security (I feel like she would go into politics if she didn’t sail the seas) but he had to stay out longer since he’s the King. Dinner is already served, a lovely fish and chips dish (Uma and Harry switch off who cooks, but nowadays Uma is too damn tired to do it, but Harry still makes her favs). Ben sits down, so relieved to be able to relax after a lot of work.

Ben and Uma start to chat about anything other than work when their husband Harry, wearing nothing but his boxers and a cooking apron because he’s just THAT kind of guy, and holding a small little form in his arms and doing that bob thing, before saying “keep it down, the wee lass is tryin’ to rest.”

Yes, Harry is the stay-at-home-dad (he would normally work down at the docks, fishing and keeping all the ships in ship shape, but Uma had a kid and he dropped everything to take maternity leave) they tried to say he couldn’t but he’s married to the king

Also, they don’t know which one is the father, but all they know she’s Uma’s child and they would love her no matter what.

1: How long have you been in the fandom?

Well, since 5 years in the Hungarian one and two years in the international (?) one. In the Hungarian one, well, it has grown into a family. We had *counts* Six members, me, @reo-bae (our Leo) @seshihira (The Hero Oz) @ultimate-hopeless (Our Alice) and two more, Elliot and Alyss. The Alyss betrayed us and told me to go and kill myself, and destroyed my small group, even if I also made bazinga big fuckin mistakes, she claimed she is the victim of all of us, ect. She is no longer Anything in my eyes. (sorrythisbecamelongehhehehehreallysorry)

Break.

3: Favorite Baskerville?

You don’t know how much I hated Lottie, because the conflict between her and Break. And then I realized how much she is actually a very sweet lady. Funny story, I realized if there were other conditions, I think she would be friends with Break and Sharon, because she does resemble them in some ways.

5: Favorite Chain?

Duldum, Cheshire and Mad Hatter. Duldum is theprettiest, Ches has the sweetest personality and story, Mad Hatter is the most badass. But Albus was also something I longed for. I wanted a knight.

9: Favorite Vessalius?

Oscar. I want him to live with his wife and child pls.

13: How did I join the fandom?

I pulled P.H. up everywhere and so the mentoined Elliot found me, thanks to a Rufus Barma quote. (Knowledge is power and you have to know how to treat it. -or something like this.)

18: Do I hate or like Jack?

Heck no. He is complex and I do think he could have ended up being good. I don’t agree with what he did, but I can accept that he was destroyed mentally.

Well, she might be pretty but she is a straight unliked character. I hate people acting as victims.

They are family.

By appaerence it is Alyss. She inspired my first oc, Elie Cheshire. By persona it is definitelly Alice. I find her very diverse.

Both. I just want them to be happy.

No one. This is a question I mostly try to avoid. I rather ship the characters vithin the series, in everyway, and find out who do I resemble, than making and Oc or anything with myself. I rather make a character with resemblence (not fully, I hate copying) to the character I like the most.

As for the very first, I am unsure. Gilbert, or Ada. Or Oscar. But because we didn’t get to see Oscar and Ada for quite some time after the first chapter, it’s likely Gil after all?

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not:

Alice? Not that I don’t like her but I am not a big fan of her development, so I like her early in the series because she’s cute and funny, but I tend to prefer other characters in the serious and tragic part of the story. That, and honestly some of her insensitive comments rub me the wrong way (as when she asks Break if he’s not yet dead when he’s about to, or when she calls Ada an “airhead” and a “burden”), because I happen to have a very subjective soft spot for the characters in question xD.

For the PH ask thing 2, 6, 18, 36, 37

2: Favorite character? -

I would say my favorite character is Break. I really liked the amount of depth he had, how he pulled himself up and forced himself to atone for his mistakes again and again, and still found time to help the other characters. He was at times too harsh but he was often humorous as well. He was definitely strategic; I loved his fight scenes a good deal.

Personally,  I really liked that despite being a servant he rarely acted like one. That was one thing that always kind of bothered me with Gilbert.

Aside from Break, I would say Lacie! I admired how she persevered in the most hopeless of situations and found independence even when she, arguably, didn’t have any. She was fated for tragedy but she maintained a regal air despite that. She was also quite difficult to understand and seemed to change a lot from when Jack met her to when she was an adult. I wish we could have seen more of that transition.

6: OTP? -

Probably Oz x Echo. I think they had a lot they could bond over. Neither of them felt like they were “real” people but they each fought for the other’s right to personhood and they really admired one another. I enjoy Barma and Sheryl’s almost-romance quite a bit as well. I guess they would be more of a BROTP. As for crack ships, I always thought Break and Gilbert would be fun.

18: Do I hate or like Jack? -

Ultimately, I like Jack. There were a lot of moments where I really felt angry with him--it’s almost impossible not to feel that betrayal--but he was so interesting! He essentially succumbed to despair so much that he couldn’t recognize who he even was. Even as he was mourning for Glen he was unsure of whether he felt anything at all. He’s a very sad character. I wonder what he thought in his final moments; I think he meant to make amends by offering up his body to the Intent of the Abyss but... I don’t know.

36: Favorite character backstory? -

Probably Oswald’s, Lacie’s, and Jack’s, which they kind of share. I would love to have more details on what things were like between those three.

37: Least favorite character backstory?-

I don’t think I really have a least favorite but one I think I would have liked more detail on is Barma’s. Everything about that family is left a bit vague and it reminds you that we don’t know anything about what country they’re from or what country they’re currently in. If there’s one thing that I wish Pandora Hearts had included it’s a little more geography. XD
