OO! Also for the ask game. Galacta Knight, 7 and 8

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

Oug, I've barely been dipping my toes into the fandom lately, there are few things I can think of that the fandom really does with Galacta Knight on a regular basis. ^^;

At the same time, I kind of like the variety! There's very little to go off of when it comes to characterization, and what little there is comes from secondary sources (Galactic NOVA, Star Dream) or pause screen descriptions, it seems. But I love how the fandom has so many different portrayals of him, ranging from him being just the sweetest dork who never deserved what he got, to an absolute menace who I want to hunt for sport. :>

I do like, also, when people in the fandom write him interacting with the Ancients -- the people who presumably imprisoned him. It can be so fascinating, and so laden with characterization, and I love it.

I also like the pretty consistent portrayals of him being free-spirited -- perhaps to a fault, at times -- and I've seen like two or three people give him a love of strawberries, I think. I don't know why, I just love that little detail. It makes him seem more... human, which makes any angst all the more of a punch to the gut.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Again, there's not a whole lot I can think of at the moment that the fandom is really cohesive about when it comes to portraying Galacta Knight, and I don't think that I really despise any of them -- though despise is a very strong word.

The biggest thing I can think of is maybe shipping him with Meta Knight, but that's because I'm simply not a fan of romantic metagala (and shipping is something I tend to not touch in the Kirby fandom, anyway, due to some behaviors I've observed in the past). Like, ship whoever, but that one just doesn't do it for me.

The only other thing I can think of is taking away his emotions -- I can understand why, but I personally tend to like the portrayals of him that paint him as a highly emotional, volatile sort of character. Especially with being sealed away, presumably against his will, and presumably either undeservedly or with good reason, I like seeing those emotions pushed to a wild, virulent extent. However, that's less of a dislike and more of a personal preference.

Thank you for the ask! I wasn't expecting to get one for a Kirby character, but I'm really excited that I did! I don't talk about Kirby enough on this blog, it is like 50% of my childhood (the rest is FFCC and TLoZ:TP) and a consistently recurring obsession, and it's been on the brain lately.

I ordered the DRRR complete Blu-ray set "used" because it was like half the price of new

There's no fuckin way this box set was ever used. It came still wrapped in the plastic. There's not a fingerprint other than mine inside it.

I am so fuckin ecstatic. This was a set I wasn't actually sure I'd ever be able to get my hands on because... Well... Aniplex and their prices for physical copies of their animes

Simple lifeform facts I take for granted that I've now seen blowing people's minds on here:

That sea urchins walk around and have mouths with teeth on their undersides

That corals are related to jellyfish

Barnacles being related to crabs and shrimp

Ants being an offshoot of wasps

Termites being totally unrelated to ants and all similarities just being convergent evolution (they're actually a group of cockroaches, but even science didn't know that part until a few years ago)

Starfish having an eye at the end of each arm

That the bodies of ticks and mites are also their heads, essentially big heads with legs (they even frequently have eyes way up on "the body")

Sperm whales have no upper teeth, and also their bodies are flat from the front

Goats also having no upper (front) teeth

Tapeworms having no mouth at all and just absorbing nutrients over their entire body surface

That flies are bigger pollinators than bees

That moths are bigger pollinators than bees

That wasps are just as important pollinators as bees (more important to many groups of plants) and when we say they're "less efficient" at it we just mean individually they get a little less pollen stuck to them.

That honeybees are nonnative to most of the world and not good for the local ecosystem, just good for human agriculture

That earthworms are also nonnative and destructive to more habitats than the reverse

There being no hard biological line between slugs and snails; all slugs aren't necessarily related to each other and there are gastropod groups where some have shells and some don't

That ALL octopuses (not just the blue ring) have a venomous bite

Most jellyfish and sea anemones being predators that eat fish

"Krill" being shrimp up to a few inches long and not some kind of microbe

Blue whales therefore being the deadliest predators to ever evolve as they eat up to several million individual animals per day

That krill are still "plankton" because plankton refers to whatever animals, algae and other organisms are carried around by the sea's currents, not to any particular group of life or a size category

Fungi being no more related to plants than we are, and in fact more like a sibling to the animal kingdom if anything

Venus fly traps being native to only one small area of North America in all the world

Parasites being essential to all ecosystems

Leeches not having a circular ring of teeth anywhere

That algae is not a type of plant

That most seaweed is just very big algae

That enough wood ends up in the ocean that plenty of sea life evolved to eat only wood

Speaking of which the fact that the "ship worms" that make tunnels in wood are just long noodly clams

Butterflies technically just being a small weird group of moths we gave a different name to

That insects only get wings once they reach maximum size and therefore there can never be a younger smaller bee or fly that's not a larva

Spiders not being any more likely to kill their own mates/young than just a cat or dog might, for most species maybe a lot less often?

Watching lichen videos about how they discovered there could be more than one fungus in the symbiotic relationship and everything they're saying just sounds like people suddenly realizing their OTP should be an OT3.

angst, no comfort, established relationship

“archons, (y/n). how careless could you be?”

tighnari roughly grabbed your arm, dabbing a cloth doused in rubbing alcohol as he pressed down on your wound. you had gone out to the forest that morning to look for more flowers to press in your book, only to find yourself being attacked by some fungi and getting your arm scratched in the process. luckily tighnari was on his rounds in that area, but that didn’t make his frustration with you any lesser.

he kissed his teeth as he wrapped your arm in a bandage, glaring at your reddened skin.

“what was so important for you to go and get yourself hurt for? please, enlighten me (y/n).”

you couldn’t help but look at your lap in shame. it hadn’t been the first time something like this had happened with tighnari coming to your rescue. it wasn’t like you couldn’t fend for yourself, you’d just find yourself in the thick of the fungi and you alone were not enough to clear it.

“for my book..” you mumbled, pointing to a brown leather book that sat on the table not too far from you. tighnari stood up without a word, going over to said book and began tearing page after page out. the bright, colorful flowers you had spent years pressing and collecting over several nations now laid on the floor, petals shredded into small colorful bits. something you had started as a small hobby with your now deceased friend, completely gone in a matter of minutes.

“there. now you have no reason to put yourself in danger. i mean, come on (y/n). your silly book of flowers? couldn’t you just ask collei to get you some?”

tears blurred your vision, ignoring him as you couldn’t help but stare at your years worth of collecting now on the floor.

“you had no right to do that..” you whispered, your hands coming up to your face as you quickly wiped away your tears. after each harsh wipe of your eyes more tears would stream down your face.

tighnari’s gloved hand gripped your chin tightly, forcing you to look up at him.

“i do actually. matter of fact i’ll do anything to keep you safe. even if it means taking away things that put you in danger.”

“i’ve spent years collecting all of that tighnari! you have no idea what you’ve done. i’ll never, never forgive you for this.”

“archons, if i knew i’d have married such a boneheaded girl i wouldn’t have married you.”

your eyes widened, your now glossy eyes staring into his. “do you mean that?”

“yes, yes i do. maybe i should’ve gone for a ranger instead of some hobbyist like yourself.” he spoke without thinking.

your sadness quickly turning to anger, tearing his hand from your face. you didn’t bother saying a word to him, leaving the house without a word as he stared at your form as you left, dismissing it as another one of your childish outbursts.

“the nerve of that girl..”

he scoffs as he packs up the first aid kit. his ears twitch in annoyance as he replays the previous conversation. his tail drooping as he remembers your teary eyes. “fuck..”

he sets out to the city, going to the market as he picks up your favorite dessert from a stall. he carries it tenderly in the crook of his arm, remembering your smile when he’d previously given you the sweetly packaged dessert. his guilt kept him at home, waiting at the table for you to return.

but you wouldn’t.

you’d long boarded on a ship that belonged to captain beidou, heading to inazuma. if he was so sure that he didn’t want you as his forever partner, you’d just make it your new “hobby” to explore the nations once again, getting back what was so cruely taken from you.

tighnari stood from the table, his anxiety coursing through his veins as he ran through the city, asking your friends if they knew where you were.

“have you seen (y/n)? she hasn’t come home yet?”

“has (y/n) come by here?”

“have you seen (y/n)?”

‘please .. please just tell me where you’ve gone..’

‘(y/n).. come back to me..’

tighnari laid curled up in a ball alone that night, hugging your pillow as he tried to imprint your scent into his memory. all he felt was guilt in his stomach, his ears flatting on his head as silent tears slipped down his cheeks.

“i have so many things to say to you (y/n).. this ring holds so many unsaid words i want to say to you so very badly..

please.. come back to me.”
