The NDIS and Medium Term Accommodation
When a participant is in the market for a new home, the NDIS may offer funding for Medium Term Accommodation (MTA). It's an ideal solution for a participant who needs temporary housing while waiting for a long term residence. The NDIS has also been known to fund short-term stays, such as those during rehab or a hospital stay. However, this type of funding is not available to everyone.
In order to obtain MTA funding, the participant must have a disability. The participant must also have proof of need. This can include a medical diagnosis or evidence of an ongoing or imminent housing need.
The NDIS has a number of registered providers of medium term accommodation NDIS. They offer a wide range of accommodation options, including comfortable, modern homes and daily life support services.
As well as providing a safe and secure place to live, these homes provide personal care and assistance to help participants achieve their fullest potential. For example, many of the homes provide nursing, capacity building group activities and assistive technology.
Alternatively, the MTA may be part of a larger residential housing solution. If you're considering moving into specialist disability accommodation, you'll need to consider other aspects of your accommodation and living plan. During your application, your NDIS planner will discuss additional supports you might need.
Medium Term Accommodation is not a replacement for informal support. Rather, it's designed to meet your particular disability-related housing requirements. Whether you need an interim home or a permanent residential solution, there's a wide variety of options.
There are a few steps you can take to get the NDIS to approve your application for MTA. First, you must identify your home and living needs and determine the right NDIS plan for you. Next, you can contact a local Area Coordinator to help you locate the best MTA provider. Finally, you'll need to fill out an application form. Keep in mind that this process can take some time, so be prepared.
Luckily, the National Disability Insurance Scheme has a dedicated team of professionals who are here to guide you every step of the way. From your initial application to a final decision, the NDIS will do its best to reach a conclusion in ten days or less.
In addition, the NDIS has a plethora of information to help you understand how the scheme works. Among other things, the NDIS has a portal where you can explore providers, use a Housing Seeker profile to track your own housing needs, and access other resources.
The NDIS also has an operational guidelines document, which you can consult to find out more about when the NDIS is most likely to fund your MTA. Those guidelines are constantly changing, so check in with your NDIS planner to make sure your plan is up to date. A good rule of thumb is to keep your needs top of mind at all times.
The NDIS is a great option for people with disabilities waiting for a permanent residence. However, it's important to remember that you're still responsible for all of your day-to-day living costs.

On the off-chance that my mutuals have a lead -
I'm looking for short term accommodations on a bus route to the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC. It's just me and my suitcase. I'm respectful, quiet, don't smoke, don't drink, don't party, or have overnight guests. In summary, no fun will be had. I'm there for work.
I can't find anything. Even the hotels are full. The booking system for Air B and B and VRBO isn't working; availability is shown but doesn't actually exist.

Prohibition of Short-Duration Lodgings in BC
This significant policy, announced in October 2023, is set to be implemented in May 2024.
A major shift in policy is transforming the housing and tourism sectors: the prohibition of short-duration lodgings. Intended to stabilize the housing market, this policy has far-reaching consequences for the thriving tourism industry in Victoria, BC, a city celebrated for its enchanting beauty and dynamic culture.
The Background of the Prohibition on Short-Duration Lodgings
British Columbia's move to limit short-duration lodgings stems from increasing concerns over housing affordability and accessibility. In places like Victoria, where the real estate market is notably strained, this policy is designed to shift properties back to the long-term rental market, thereby improving housing accessibility for the local populace. However, the impact of this prohibition extends beyond real estate, significantly affecting the tourism sector in Victoria.
Tourism in Victoria: A Fragile Equilibrium
Victoria, often praised as a gem of the Pacific Northwest, depends greatly on tourism. Attractions such as the city's quaint downtown, historical sites like the Parliament Buildings, the Royal BC Museum, and its scenic waterfront, draw numerous visitors. Nevertheless, the prohibition of short-duration lodgings is likely to upset the balance Victoria has maintained – a harmonious mix of residential life and tourist visits.
Changes in Lodging Options
Short-duration lodgings have historically offered tourists a range of accommodation choices, from charming apartments in the downtown area to comfortable homes on the city's fringes. These options accommodated various budgets and provided a more authentic experience of living as a local. With the prohibition, tourists might face more limited choices, primarily confined to hotels and traditional inns. This may lessen the appeal of a personalized experience in Victoria, potentially reducing its attractiveness as a tourist spot.
A Future of Change and Resilience
The prohibition on short-duration lodgings calls for adaptation. Those involved in the tourism and real estate sectors must seek new ways to attract and house tourists. This could involve enhancing traditional accommodation options or creating new tourist experiences that offset the shift in lodging availability.
The resilience of Victoria's tourism sector will be put to the test in this new chapter. The city's intrinsic charm and allure remain, but its response to this significant shift will be crucial. Collaborative efforts are essential to ensure that Victoria continues to flourish as a top destination, balancing the interests of tourists, local residents, and the real estate industry.
In summary, the prohibition of short-duration lodgings in British Columbia poses a multifaceted challenge, especially for a city like Victoria where tourism is vital. While it addresses housing issues, it inevitably alters the delicate interplay between tourism and real estate. As Victoria adapts to these changes, its future success will depend on its capacity for innovation and preserving its unique charm as a leading tourist location in the Pacific Northwest."

Tumblr media
The Appeal of Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley
Why Invest in Holiday Rentals?
Both the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley are known for their lush natural beauty, vibrant local culture, and diverse activities ranging from wine tasting to scenic train rides. Properties in these areas are high in demand for both short-term stays and longer holidays, making them ideal for holiday rentals. By investing in accommodation management services, you can turn your property into a lucrative business while offering a unique experience to visitors.
Key Attractions
The Dandenong Ranges are home to some of the most beautiful gardens and walking trails in Victoria, including the iconic Puffing Billy Railway and the picturesque William Ricketts Sanctuary. Meanwhile, the Yarra Valley is renowned for its world-class wineries, gourmet food, and art galleries. Whether visitors are seeking adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, these regions have something for everyone.
Understanding Accommodation Management
What is Accommodation Management?
Accommodation management involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of a rental property. This includes managing bookings, coordinating with guests, maintaining the property, and ensuring a smooth, hassle-free experience for both owners and guests. Effective accommodation management not only boosts occupancy rates but also enhances guest satisfaction and maximizes rental income.
Benefits of Professional Management
Higher Occupancy Rates: Professional managers have the expertise and tools to market your property effectively, ensuring high visibility and consistent bookings.
Streamlined Operations: From managing check-ins and check-outs to handling cleaning and maintenance, professional management services take care of all the operational aspects, saving you time and effort.
Enhanced Guest Experience: A well-managed property with prompt, friendly service results in positive reviews and repeat bookings, contributing to the overall success of your rental business.
Tips for Successful Holiday Rental Management in Yarra Valley
1. Create an Attractive Listing
Your property listing is often the first impression potential guests have of your rental. Ensure your listing includes high-quality photos, a detailed description, and highlights the unique features of your property. Mention nearby attractions, amenities, and any special offers to capture the interest of prospective guests.
2. Set Competitive Pricing
Research similar properties in your area to determine the right price for your rental. Consider factors such as location, size, amenities, and seasonal demand. Offering discounts for longer stays or early bookings can also help attract more guests.
3. Invest in Quality Furnishings and Amenities
A well-furnished property with modern amenities can significantly enhance the guest experience. Consider adding features such as a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable bedding, high-speed internet, and entertainment options like a TV or gaming console. Small touches like a welcome basket with local products can also make a big difference.
4. Implement a Robust Booking System
Using a reliable booking system can streamline the reservation process and reduce the risk of double bookings or cancellations. Many property management companies offer integrated booking platforms that sync with popular travel websites, making it easier to manage your calendar and communicate with guests.
5. Provide Excellent Customer Service
Prompt and clear communication with guests is crucial for a positive experience. Respond to inquiries quickly, provide detailed information about check-in/check-out procedures, and be available to address any issues that arise during their stay. A responsive, friendly approach will leave a lasting impression and encourage positive reviews.

"PRISON FARM TO OPEN ON MONDAY," Victoria Daily Colonist. August 29, 1912. Page 1 & 3. --- Most Modern Methods in the Treatment of Offenders in Force at Burnaby - Mr. W. G. McMynn Made Warden ----- On Monday the prison farm at Burnaby will be put into commission, when twenty-five short-term prisoners from the Kamloops jail will be transferred there to complete their terms. Mr. William G. MeMynn, who has been government agent at Golden for some few years, and who has been in the provincial service for twenty years, has been appointed warden of the new Institution.
The establishment of a prison farm has been the aim of the attorney-general, Hon. W. J. Bowser, for a considerable time, and he has worked out the details of the plan very carefully. He is now about to see them put into practical operation at the farm which has been purchased in the municipality of Burnaby, near Vancouver.
As the accommodation of the existing jalls was becoming congested the attorney-general decided to have a temporary building put up in advance. of the permanent structures, and a well-built prison, capable of containing two hundred men has been erected. To this will be moved men who are serving short terms in the provincial jails, and as the institution gets into working order men of longer jail terms will be transferred there. On the completion of the permanent buildings the temporary structure will be utilized for workshops and so forth. Farm Well Located. There are 190 acres in the farm, which is partly bottom land and partly timbered. The men being taken there at the outset will be employed In clearing up and getting the land ready for cultivation. Work on the farm will at once provide prisoners with healthful occupation in the open air and furnish produce for the feeding of the inmates. When the farm is in full operation there will be workshops where the men can follow their trades If they have any, or be taught some form of industry which will enable them to earn an honest living after they are released. The location of the farm will render the transfer of pr oners to it an easy matter.
The prison farm system has proved very successful wherever it has been tried, and Mr. Bowser is satisfied that Its adoption in this province will be followed by the same beneficial results. The system is more humanitarian than the present jail system, but at the same time it does not run to the extremes that so-called humane treatment of offenders has done other countries, and the punitive object of imprisonment is not lost sight of in the corrective.
Warden McMynn In Warden McMynn the attorney-general has secured a man who is admirably fitted for a post that is rather more responsible than that of an ordinary jail warden. While he has had considerable police experience and is a disciplinarian he is a man of broad and humane principles and has always been interested in the reform of prison methods. In carrying out the plans of the farm he will be a worthy seconder of Mr. Bowser's efforts in this direction.
The new warden is a native of Scotland, born in Glenvarnoch in March, 1864. He came to British Columbia just twenty-eight years ago and took up ranching in the Deita, afterwards moving to Rock Creek, in the Kettle River valley. In 1892 he entered the provincial service as a member of the provincial police force, and later became mining recorder for the district In which he lived. Twelve years ago he was appointed government agent at Greenwood and a few years ago he was transferred to Golden. Mr. McMynn is considered one of the best officials in the public service, his handling of the many duties that fall to a government agent having been performed to the absolute satisfaction of the public and the departments.
Healthy Influences Among the advantages of the prison farm system is the fact that it takes the men out in the free, open air, away from the atmosphere of the prison, although, of course, under very strict guard, and keeps them busy at out- of-doors tasks under conditions more healthful than in the best-kept of jails. This is bound to have a good influence on all but the most hardened of prisoners, and physically and mentally they return to society better for their terms of incarceration. Marks for good conduct lend to the shortening of their sentences and are an inducement to them to make the best use of their time. There will be general Interest in the province in the success of the at farm at Burnaby

Short Term Accommodation in Melbourne
If you’re thinking of starting a short term rental business, you should know the rules and regulations that apply in Victoria. These laws include zoning regulations for vacation rentals. They also specify that the place to be rented out must be the operator’s primary residence.
The Greens have urged the state government to regulate short stays as they reduce the availability of long-term rental homes. A statewide registration system and a 180-day cap could help address this issue.
Private landlords
When looking for short term accommodation Melbourne, you can choose from a range of private rental options. These include vacation rentals, serviced apartments and rent by owner homes. These are typically located in the city's inner and bayside suburbs. They provide privacy, space and a range of amenities, such as a fully equipped kitchen and laundry. They also offer connectivity benefits, making them ideal for business and travel.
Houses, flats and apartments are usually found through newspaper, online and real estate agent listings. You can also check university or TAFE websites and noticeboards for student housing. If you're an international student, it's a good idea to arrive in Melbourne at least a month before your course starts to inspect offers from the student housing database and apply for rental properties. In addition, you can look for share housing or house mates in the local area. Many of these homes will require a bond, and some may require a deposit.
Hotels and motels
If you are looking for a hotel in Melbourne for short term accommodation, there are many options available.
