thinking about when guts sent a bunch of his men directly into zodd's meat grinder without even knowing demons like him existed. and that moment after the fight where casca runs to griffith unconscious on the floor and tells guts it's all his fault. and the time gambino tells him he's bad luck and should have died instead. and about how he tells griffith he cares about his men, and how casca doesn't seem to see it. and the time guts is thinking about casca telling him it's all his fault (after he got griffith hurt) and then griffith comes to him and says (like it's nothing) do i need to give a reason every time i come to save you? or whatever. like he's worth it. like he's worth dying for, and like it can be a choice people make because they value you. like he's a good luck charm, like griffith needs him to reach his goals, his full potential. like griffith is not enough to make it without him. like griffith finds out when guts leaves. fuckin.g gnawing someone else's legs off because i still need mine to run into traffic

[ID: A digital drawing of Redd, a fat, white trans man, in fishing gear. He has shaggy blonde hair, a patchy beard, body hair, freckles and acne, and is wearing a gray t-shirt that reads "women want me fish fear me" in all caps red text, a red flannel shirt, a brown fishing vest, gray jeans with a brown belt, brown boots, and a red and gray hat. He is carrying a red tackle box in one hand and a net and fishing pole in the other arm. He is walking with his arms lifted, smiling in excitement. end ID]

OKAY so rangers apprentice is this book series set in medieval europe-adjacent, like it has countries clearly inspired by european regions and the names are usually related to the real world name, so that combined with the locations is not hard to figure out which countries are which
the main character is this 15 year old kid named Will who grows up throughout the series (11 books), and he’s the ranger’s apprentice in question. the Rangers are this ultra-secret group of spy archers who work for the king and a lot of ppl think they’re dark wizards but they’re actually just good at camouflage, so Will is apprenticed to one of the rangers and he ends up saving the country a couple times.
there’s not much of an overarching plot through the whole series but there are smaller arcs that go through a couple books, like books 1-4 are mostly together and then 5-6 could have been one long book, book 7 is a weird outlier that takes place between 4 and 5, and so on.
what’s interesting about the setting tho is that there’s not explicitly magic systems/users, but it’s heavily implied that there’s more to the world than meets the eye (i think there’s demons in a spin-off series? idk haven’t read that one yet) it’s sooooo fun
and the characters are super engaging too!!! there’s Will, the protagnist; Halt, his mentor; Horace, his best friend; Alyss the love interest; and lots more side characters that are interesting too and even tho i described them as how they relate to Will, they all get super interesting development and backstory. this got so long i’m sorry but rangers apprentice is one of the best book series i’ve ever read and i highly recommend it :33
Finally archers getting the attention and spotlight they deserve! (can you tell I’m partial??)
It’s really interesting (in a good way) that there’s a “lack” of over-arching plot. a lot of longer “media” i’ve “consumed” (at least lately) has suffered from a sort of burn-out where the stakes feel wonky and over done, yet underwhelming after going on for so long; it’s often affected other stuff like continuity and character development and consistency (hello supernatural, how goes the Winchester self sacrifice reset?). I’m actually really excited to see how smaller chunks over longer time will feel after so long.
I also love the idea of a magic system not being explicitly stated wether it’s it a star wars-y “long time ago in a galaxy far far away” type thing were it’s implied that you’re reading an in universe recollection where you’re already supposed to “know” or it’s a narrative tool for the author to frame perspective/plot twists etc
I’m gonna go now and start looking for epubs and shit even though my kindles broke :,( (fuck you ryaniar) and i’m looking for a new one

*911 Spoilers*
Okay, I'm now on season 5 of 911. I've always shipped Buck and Eddie since I started watching the show, but what really "solidified" the ship for me I guess, is the episode where Eddie gets shot, in the end of season 4. The way Buck reacts to the whole thing is so interesting to me because if you look at Bobby, Hen, or Chimney, obviously they're worried about Eddie as friends usually are. But Buck is absolutely devastated, he's full on breaking down because Eddie almost died. And to me that doesn't seem like a just friends kinda reaction, it seems like love. Also at the end of the episode, where Eddie tells Buck that he wants him to take care of Christopher if he ever died. And the fact that Eddie trusts Buck more than his own familly for something that important, AND the fact that Buck has basically been a like a Dad to Christopher since the beginning anyways, is so amazing. The way that Buck and Eddie care about each other so much is just so beautiful to me.

he named a bee after her!!! no other sherlock/watson duo can compare
HE NAMED A BEE AFTER HER!! Could it have been any more perfect, or more meaningful a gesture ... ugh. I love them, and the scene was perfect.
I am so fond of this series, and whenever reruns are on TV I have to sit down and watch. Other recent adaptations - except the Japanese series Miss Sherlock, which I also liked - don't do anything. The bros just add frenetic editing and jacked up music. This creative team really said, what if we reimagine them ... and one of many things I love about the result is how Sherlock held Joan in such high regard, right from the start. So much to love about their characterization and how their friendship and professional partnership developed, and how the longer form, 20+ episode series format could really be a positive for a story like this one.
(I know they lost steam in latter seasons, but still. I could write a whole essay. :)
