I am truly enjoying Divinity: Original Sin 2! I was however very surprised when I found out that it was not only possible to have late-game romance scenes with high-affinity companions that I had specifically never flirted with, but that they were basically all in actual romantic love with my player character based on affinity points alone I guess?! Haha whoops

An episode about difficulties in understanding the people around you, where no one can judge you for getting stuff wrong because they all got things wrong too. Beautiful.

The Laios fakes all get pointed out immediately. Drooling-Laios is the easiest one to attribute, to Marcille. Big-Laios has to be Chilchuck's work, exaggerating his size, strength, and facial features. Falin-Laios is Senshi taking the opposite approach, seeing him as soft and chill.

(Edit: People have pointed out in the notes that some of my assessments are wrong. See if you can guess which!)

Scarf-Chilchuck and Pristine-Senshi get attributed to Laios on the basis of poor attention to outfit details, and are imprisoned along with the Laios fakes and Lipstick-Marcille. (I'm not going to try to figure out how to pluralize Laios's name.) Lipstick-Marcille fits into a pattern of Chilchuck seeing exaggerated features, in particular face angularity.

The trios each lose a member to having the wrong tools. Kid-Chilchuck's thieving tools are incomplete, which is clearly Senshi's work. Meanwhile, Senshi and Marcille are taking jabs at each other's professions. Sidebraid-Marcille is noticeably less serious, while... honestly, I'm not even sure what to call Marcille's Senshi. He's a bit taller, and also more... spread out, I guess? In particular, rather than pointing forward, his horns go out more to the sides, making him look less threatening. Flattened-Senshi?

This makes an easy process of elimination for the last three. Cute-Chilchuck is Marcille's work, reading his demeanor better than Senshi but still not as well as Laios. Stern-Marcille is Laios's only lasting creation - he's the best at maintaining professional respect for each of them, and always does well with the concept despite getting details wrong. In this case that shows up in the form of playing up her determination, which he ends up catching when he realizes he made her too cautious. And Tough-Senshi is Chilchuck's, playing up his height and strength like with Laios, but with a rogue's outlook on the dungeon.

This episode was a fascinating look into each of the characters and their interactions, and I love how many times the fakes casually slip into the conversations with the real ones. Easily my favorite episode so far.

OC Looks: Rose Trevelyan

Thanks (again) for the tag @librivore42. Continuing on with Rose Trevelyan! I have two big fat fics for her, an Inquisition era long fic (In the Shattering of Things | ITSOT) and then a DA2 era matchmaking fic (Kiss Me Moonstruck | KMM) and the fashions are slightly different.

Hair style (if it isn't obvious from above)

Rose is not great at doing her own hair. Her messy sidebraid is pretty much because that's about what she can manage to keep her hair out of her face lol.

Pre-Inquisition, House Trevelyan type stuff! I HC that the Marches have a more 18th century design for their fashion. Rose spent lots of time in dresses. She shows up to the Hawke Estate in Kirkwall in one such dress and will wear them for various special occasions from then on. Is it her favorite? No. Does she hate it? Also no.

More casual probably a chemise beneath a structured bodice, comfortable breeches and boots. Not real far off the canon Venture Forth Skyhold outfit!

Armor!

Usually in leather, medium weight armor that offers the best freedom of movement for archery and dodging. Her dress armor has an inquisition chestplate in everite across the front.

Accessories:

Rose's most obvious feature aside from her hair are her enormous cowls and shawls she wears. She likes to be cozy at all times.

Footwear:

Undergarments! If she's not wearing a structured bodice she's in a short stay. I used to default to 'breast band' in writing (as is popular) but upon researching decided that nah, Rose is either in a proper stay, either short or full size OR a structured bodice. THEY HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY

I'm officially back to drawing, I guess??

Azem and my WoL, finally drawn together for a proper comparison.

Some details on the thought process behind their similarities or lackthereof (Spoilers for 5.3?):

1) I discarded any feature I associated with Rhaq'a being a Moonkeeper. This includes the hair, some physical features (the thicker lips, the nose), partially the skintone… Overall facial structure and shape are intended to be similar. To me, making the WoL and Azem different physically was very, very important. They're their own people after all. Also, the small amount of canon data on the matter we have supports this direction.

2) I say partially for the skintone because they're actually the same—in greyscale. Azem doesn't have a Moonkeeper's greyish skin, but I still wanted to have some point of commonality there. It lightens the color quite a bit, alas. Funnily enough, I got a bit too addicted to adding melanin when I made Rhaq'a's family so he turned out to have the noticeably lightest skin of them all… So I now blame Azem for that!

3) Azem's eyes are blue-ish purple instead of Rhaq'a's pink-ish purple. This is to accomodate Ardbert, who has blue eyes. This makes the physical transition to either Shard a lot more logical, instead of having Azem resemble physically the WoL and only the WoL. In fact, if he looks closer to Ardbert in some regards that's good for me! Ardbert is a hyur, it just makes sense.

4) Same for the hair. Although I always planned to get rid of the white hair, the chosen color is brown because of Ardbert. Azem's hair was originally planned to be a long longer (still straight vs. Rhaq'a's wavy), but made his vibe too close to Hythlodaeus' for me… so I cut it down. The weird ponytail is intended to be a cheeky reference to Rhaq'a's tiny sidebraid, which isn't really visible in this drawing because Perspective, while keeping it different.

5) The black mask is a reference to the 5.3 cutscene where the WoL sees Elidibus' hazy memories of the Convocation. There's a member who's shown to wear a black mask instead of the usual red, and it has been long theorized to be Azem. It makes a lot of sense to me to give Azem a very unique mask, as the Traveler is the most front facing of all Convocation members (their job being literally traveling the world to check first hand if there's any issue in need of the Convocation's attention), so I decided to stick to the theory. The mask design itself doesn't have much of a deep thought process behind. Maybe someday. I hate designing masks, I've found.

6) The ridiculous robe is, sadly, not optional.

Goro's voice sounds as the camera turns on, focused on the small TV in his and Natsuki's shared bedroom. "I'm recording this one myself, because Beholding will just post it anyway. It's about to hit midnight, and it's raining."

As if on cue, the TV turns on, and the bright red static (a quiet "what the...?") dissolves into the front of a building - some kind of European townhouse with a large wooden sign reading 'Fragmentary Memory Publishing House'. A title card fades in - Race for the Autobiography - as the shot pans up. For a brief moment, someone could notice the door opening and a figure in a dark cloak rushing out, but they're not in frame for longer than half a second. (Goro catches it, evidently, because there's a quizzical hum for a moment.)

An announcer speaks - Natsuki's voice, though notably older. "Welcome back, one and all, to Race for the Autobiography! Here at Fragmentary Memory, five authors are competing for the chance to put their story on the market. Let's meet the candidates!" (A sharp intake of breath from Goro. "Oh.")

The footage cuts to a fourteen-year-old girl with her dark blue hair pulled into a sidebraid. Her eyes are dark brown, with a fleck of gold at the bottom of the irises. She's wearing the Naranja Academy autumn uniform. The title card - and announcer - introduce her as "The Galarian Trainer!" She's sitting on her bed in a Naranja dorm room.

The next one is "The vigilante turned Archaeologist!" Again a person with dark blue hair, this one in a bob cut, with the bright green eyes with teal pupils Natsuki is known for. The fleck of gold is in a slightly different spot. She's wearing a cream turtleneck and black slacks. There's a subtitle for the title card - "fan favourite". She looks to be about 18 years old, maybe 19, and is inside a library of some kind. Strangely, her ears seem to be pointed...?

The third 'candidate' looks very different, in comparison - olive skin, long dark brown hair, in an outfit not out of place in a renaissance fair. Brown eyes with a fleck of gold, again in a different spot than the previous two. Freckles everywhere. She's announced as "the amnesiac Prosecutor!" With a subtitle of "probably not going to win". She's in her mid twenties, standing in the street of an old town, people in similarly middle age-ish clothes milling around in the background. There's also a massive building shaped like an open book faintly visible.

Number 4 is caucasian, without freckles. Hazel eyes with a ring of gold around the pupil, hidden by black glasses that really need to be cleaned, they're wearing a black hoodie and houndstooth pattern grey sweatpants. A black dyejob that really needs to be renewed soon. This one is introduced as "The Origin", with the subtitle informing the viewer that they're "German, been in the race the longest". It's difficult to gauge their age, somewhere between 14 to 19? They're sitting on a bed in a nondescript room. It could be a dorm? It's incredibly cluttered.

"And finally, our newest candidate!" It cuts to Natsuki's bedroom in the Dojima house. There she is, sitting at the writing desk, looking exactly how she should. Except for the ring of gold around her eyes, and the black pupils. This one is wearing the Yaso High winter uniform. "The Johtonian Navigator!" The background is quickly filled with fog.

A flashcut again, and all five candidates are lined up in front of the publishing house. It's a little hard to tell, but the door is open.

"Let the race begin! Whose memories will prevail?"

The TV turns off. Goro's voice is heard behind the camera. "Shit." The video ends.

Fan Kids OC Info

Name: Meadow Smith

Gender: Female

Appearance: Has her mother's features but her dad's eye color and hair color.

As a kid she wears her hair in messy pigtails and wears this outfit with yellow sneakers. Once she gets older in her teenage years she wears these paint splattered overalls with a rainbow striped turtleneck underneath and yellow sneakers. Wearing her hair in a loose sidebraid.

Bio: She's a twin being a few minutes older than her brother mason. She's very energetic and lively. She's an early riser and spends almost all her time with her mother in the garden. Meg named her meadow for her own fondness for flowers and it actually resulted in a child who loves nature.

Meadow is very bubbly and full of energy and this doesn't change as she gets older. She grows to love life and nature. But rather than get into gardening itself she becomes a painter. Starting at a young age. She likes being in nature and painting vast landscapes like mountains, lakes and gardens of flowers as well as trees.

She's a mama's girl as a kid but does grow close with her dad in her teenage and young adult years. If she was allowed to meet or interact with rick at all she wouldn't like him due to his negative view of the world. Also would not care for how he treats others. Would be interested in the possibilities of other planets and dimensions but if she heard about her dad's trauma regarding that she'd wanna stay far away.

Her dream is to make money off her paintings. Selling them on the street or in small art galleries. Nothing too crazy and she'd wanna live in a little cabin in the woods.

So I redesigned Shu! At first I just wanted to change her color palette but I ended up changing a lot more. The motifs I used is the Azure Dragon, her namesake millet, and the endless knot. I think they missed the opportunity to make it green/yellow even though using them is a balancing act. Yellow of the sun's rays that make plants grow and of full-grown ears of corn and grain and well, millet, and the green of newborn sprouts. I changed her hair into it being just tied up and added a sidebraid. I hate hair vents so they're not included but the sidebraid is supposed to look like her namesake plant, the millet. Like this.

The endless knot is on her sleeves because the endless knot is a symbol of continuity and interconnectivity. Crops like corn are just a part of a system that works endlessly in motion, as they die and are regrown every year. And of course, the Azure Dragon that is, in contrast to its name, more of a tealish color. It's the god of spring, so it's associated with growth and new life.
