Chelsea Sidecar

A drink named after the posh London neighborhood of Chelsea requires a posh London gin. Boodles is the much-asked-for classic dry gin from London. You won't see it in the U.S. that much, and much less now that American gin is all the rage. But there is something to be said of an old standard. And while the Gin Sidecar is slowly giving way to it original brandy forebears, a Boodles Sidecar is still smashing, baby.

"Our Sidecar is in Another Castle..." 👑🍑🥃 I thought about using peach puree for this cocktail, but I decided on a Sidecar riff with peach brandy since the Princess is kind of a badass. I also had this bottle of @fireballwhisky gathering dust in the back of my liquor cabinet and was determined to use it in something. If you don't have Fireball, just increase both the Cinnamon Bark Syrup and the Bourbon to ¾ oz each. Peach Princess • 1 oz Cognac (30ml) • ½ oz Evan Williams (100 proof) Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon (15ml) • ½ oz Lemon Juice (15ml) • ¼ oz Peach Brandy (10ml) • ¼ oz Fireball Cinnamon Whisky (10ml) • ½ oz Cinnamon Bark Syrup (see notes) (15ml) • 3 dashes Fee Brothers Cardamom Bitters • Peach slice Instructions: ① Add everything except peach slice to a cocktail shaker. ② Add ice and shake until cold. ③ Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. ④ Garnish with peach slice. Notes: Cinnamon Bark Syrup 1 cup water 2 cups sugar 3 cinnamon sticks, broken up into 10–20 pieces Add water and cinnamon fragments to a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Simmer for ten minutes then slowly add sugar while stirring or whisking. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove saucepan from heat, cover, and let sit at room temperature for at least 8 hours. Strain through a cheesecloth into a 16 oz bottle, close tight, shake, and refrigerate. Sidecar Cocktail

Happy Monday! Mondays can sometimes be rough- experiencing the loss of the weekend and the start of a long week ahead. Sometimes there just needs to be a celebration of sorts to look forward to… and for me, that means going back to the classics. Actually, if I had to rank my favorite classic cocktails this drink would be up there in the top 3 for sure- a Sidecar. There are many variations on the Sidecar although it’s historically a mix of Cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice. It’s such a favorite in our house that we’ve had an opportunity to play around with the recipe quite a bit over the years. This version has stuck around as being our favorite. I also might be a little obsessed with the Asbach Uralt Brandy- it’s soooooo good!

Juicer

Cutting Board

Ingredients

1.5 ounces Asbach Uralt Brandy

1 oz Camus Cognac

1.25 oz Cointreau

1 oz fresh lemon juice

Directions

Cut and juice 1 oz of lemon juice

Shake all ingredients with ice and pour into a coupe glass.

Garnish with orange peel.

Gin Sidecar

This is the gin version of the brandy drink that's all the rage right now. And it is being served up, as it should be. The Gin Sidecar is more relaxed, shaken but served on the rocks. A good gin and triple sec will really improve your experience with this cocktail since there's no added sugar. Triplum or Cointreau will keep things strong on alcohol and preserve a fresh citrus flavor that the drink should properly give off all around.

2 oz. gin

1 oz. triple sec (Luxardo Triplum used)

1 oz. lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into an Old Fashioned glass full of fresh ice.
