"Fashion focus: For evening". Simplicity Fashion Magazine, vol. 25, no. 3. Simplicity Pattern Co., F/W 1972.
"Forget Women's Lib, let him fix the flat."
"You're in trouble if you steal your best friend's date. However, if it seems like a good idea at the time, there's no better way to do it than in an elegant dress with a clinging bodice and opulent skirt[...]."
"Escape to the powder room when the guys start talking football, and stay until they begin to worry."
Just genius writing.

To all my crutch using loves who sew or know someone who can sew for you!
The brand Simplicity, a well known pattern company, is going out of business along with Joanne's (😭) BUT it means they have a pattern for a crutch pad, bag and toe cover for $2!! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

These two are relatively normal, as far as Cinderella pattern illustrations go, although the shoes in the second one are a little odd to me. It’s clear, from the name “Cinderella” and the type of illustrations, that they’re going for a fairytale vibe, but the, idk, Arabian nights? vibe going in the second one feels disconnected from the pattern the illustration is for?
Anyway, more under the cut

I really like that the backgrounds are usually black and white
Tumblr media
@dollsahoy this one reminded me of black-eyed kitty

That’s the last of the ones from the “girls” section.
And apparently that’s the posting limit for images on mobile!

For once I actually recognize a fashion inspiration on a doll lol, because of my mother.
Fearbook Venus’ boots are clearly inspired by Blundstones (or whatever their popular kind of boot is called)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if you look at the outer side of her left boot you can just make out a flytrap pattern.
I’ve seen some people express dislike for these shoes but they’re one of my favourite pairs of shoes for Venus so far, just for being simple black boots

butterick has been making sewing patterns since 1863, so they basically rose in popularity along with the sewing machine. mccall's was founded in 1870. vogue was established in 1899, and simplicity in 1927. they weren't all under the same company until 2017. they avoided getting broken up by the FTC because the deal brokered was under the trade commission's monetary threshold to qualify as a monopoly. now the parent company has been sold to the same liquidator that has been slashing and burning joanne's to the ground, specifically citing tariffs for their OTHER products even though the patterns themselves are made in the US. this company also owns the last tissue pattern paper production factory in the US which smaller pattern companies contract with in order to produce THEIR patterns, not to mention any archival materials for the 100+ years most of these companies have been operating.
jfc
if you would like to share something special or important you made with one of these patterns in the tags, that would be really cool, too. even if they are big companies in their home nations, please count non-american produced patterns as "indie" for the purposes of this poll, mainly because of issues of access. if you couldn't get it in a big box craft store like joanne's (rip), that's indie for a lot of people.

Here are a few pics I took back in February of the colorful look I wore for Valentine's. 🌈🩷 I made the dress myself using a vintage pattern and vintage-inspired print fabric from Spoonflower. 🌼
The pattern itself was a nice and straightforward sew, so if you're into casual '60s styles I definitely recommend it! It's the perfect simple a-line style for showcasing a fun graphic fabric print and with the addition of oversized pockets and a chunky metal o-ring zipper down the front you can get a pretty authentic mid-late '60s look without much effort!
My version of the dress deviates slightly from the pattern as I opted to make single welt pockets rather than large patch pockets. This design choice was mainly out of necessity as I was short on fabric yardage and didn't have enough for much else aside from the main body of the dress. Luckily I was able to utilize the generous plain white selvage edges that were provided on the fabric to create the pocket welts and contrasting stand collar.
I'm currently in the process of putting together a good old fashioned BLOG (what a throwback, right?) where I'll get more into technical detail about my sewing projects, including this one. So if that's something you're interested in watch this space for updates! I'm hoping to have it launched by the summer. 🤞😊

My friend @blairaptor and I have fantasized about making custom tsum tsums of our OCs for years, and while I was never able to math out a workable sewing pattern, I decided to try utilizing my crochet skills to recreate her character Caroline as a birthday gift! Both Blairaptor and I adore Caroline so it wasn't hard to choose which one of her blorbos to bring to life c:
You can see what Caroline normally looks like here (and please give Blairaptor's story a read while you're there, it deserves more love!)

I ended up getting sidetracked and not posting the pictures from the craft section of the Simplicity December 1982 sewing pattern catalog, so. Here we go!
Tumblr media
I like that it actually says what the doll is here (Dy Dee Baby, from Effanbee) (always possible that I missed it but I feel like most of the time in more recent catalogs it’s just here’s a doll, do you know who it is? Too bad if not)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love the very long tail on the cat door stop. Also I genuinely find soft body clown dolls charming and cute
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@starry-beetle I thought you might like this little pink clown child?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The description absolutely kills me- “Halloween can bring out the femininity in you - or the witch” - and I adore the little witch with the spider hanging off the brim of her hat.
Tumblr media
Be Santa… for Halloween
Again, I’ve hit the limit for images so. Last 4 will go in the reblog
