1. she was originally a random sim i made in the sims 4!!! but i ended up rlly liking her and made her into an oc!!

2. she’s a preschool teacher, and she absolutely LOVES her job

3. logan is her birthname! even when she decided to transition she never felt the need to change it, she likes her name just the way it is!

4. in her free time you can always find her in her garden!! in cold seasons she likes to read!

5. on the topic of seasons, summer and spring are her favorite!! 

6. yellow and white are her favorite colors!!

7. she doesn’t feel the need to search for a romantic relationship, she’s happy living alone! but if it happens, it happens!

8. she speaks like an old southern woman saying stuff like “goodness me!” “golly!” “well i never!” “darn!” etc. just without the southern accent JGSDKGJKD

Azerbaijan, Part I: Baku

Paris has the Eiffel Tower; Baku has the Flame Towers, arguably its most famous and recognizable landmark (assuming you've even heard of Baku, which may not be true of many Canadians!)

One of the many entrances into Baku's old town (most of the old city wall is in remarkable condition)

The Maiden Tower (in Old Baku): we were told that the reasons behind the tower's name are unknown but we do know that it's from the 12th century and used to be on the Caspian Sea (whereas nowadays the waterfront is ~500m away)

One of the many beautiful mosques in Baku (though being the 10th least religious country in the world, I get the sense that they don't exactly fill up...and we never once heard a call to prayer...)

Apparently, chess is popular in Baku...these giant chess boards were in constant use!

For those who don't know, the second part of our trip - which began last week - will be spent in the Caucasus (i.e. Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia). This is a region of the world that has always fascinated me, in large part because I just don't know much about it! We don't talk about these countries very much in Canada and before arriving, I couldn't help but wonder: what exactly goes on there? I also knew that the geographic location of the Caucasus - kind of Europe, kind of the Middle East - would make for some interesting contrasts. This is especially apparent in Azerbaijan, which is where we decided to start this leg of our journey.

We just left Azerbaijan, meaning that we spent just over a week there in total: roughly 4 days in Baku and 4 days in rural Azerbaijan (which is basically everywhere that is not Baku). While Azerbaijan is not touristy at all, it soon became clear to us that the tourists that DO come to Azerbaijan are primarily Russian and generally seem to stay in Baku...we did not see a single other tourist the entire time that we were traipsing around the countryside. (More on that in my next post - this one will focus on our time in Baku, Azerbaijan's glitzy capital city.)

Baku was an interesting place for several reasons. As I'd expected, it was indeed a place of contrasts: it is full of big and beautiful mosques and was in the midst of readying for Novruz (Persian New Year) celebrations, but we were repeatedly reminded by Azerbaijanis (with a hint of pride) that Azerbaijan is the "10th least religious country in the world." While the majority of Azerbaijanis are technically Muslim, there are no real signs that you are in an Islamic country when you're in Baku: judging by the architecture and how people dressed, you could easily forget that you're not in Western Europe. Indeed, Azerbaijan considers itself quasi-European, just like it considers itself to be quasi-Middle Eastern...because of this, Azerbaijanis see their country as having enormous potential to help bridge the cultural gap/misunderstandings between Europe and the Middle East. Another notable juxtaposition in Baku relates to the architecture, which clearly reflects the country's history regarding its discovery of oil. Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to start producing oil and in the early 20th century, it was producing half of the world's oil. Obviously, this directly correlates to the country's wealth and explains why many of Baku's buildings are straight out of 19th century France. At the same time, there is still a walled-off old quarter in Baku - which gives a good idea of what life was like in the centuries prior to commercialized oil production - and there remain many ugly Soviet-era buildings that remind you of that particular part of Azerbaijan's past. And of course there are many shiny, modern new buildings that remind you that Azerbaijan hasn't run out of oil (yet). Personally, my favourite part of Baku was just how over-the-top the public art was. Andre described it well by saying that it felt like we were walking around a city designed by a kid on the computer game Sim City...there was an inordinate mish mash of wacky statues, fountains, carousels, giant chess boards, several different styles of park benches and street lights, trees and shrubs shaped in funny styles, and even a mini Venice in a park (in which you can take a gondola ride around the small maze of canals). It gave me the impression that Baku's city council just has an absurd amount of money lying around and is constantly trying to come up with increasingly ridiculous things to spend it on (giant fake trees with a lone bird house on top, anyone?). Needless to say, it made for an interesting place to walk around!

In addition to walking around, we also visited the famous carpet museum (Azerbaijan is very proud of its rich carpet making history), the Heydar Aliyev museum (one of the coolest buildings I've ever seen...you can kind of see it in the back of the I ❤ Baku photo but for a better idea, you should google it) and ate lots of delicious food (bread and cheese, welcome back into my life!).

I fully recommend this pack for weddings and parties, other than that the items are kind of pointless because they dont really look good in everyday gameplay/houses, in MY opinion. 3/10.

This pack has gotten so much critisism but honestly i love it and its all bc of the aquarium coffee table, the circular end table, new things for cats and dogs and the sofas.Dont get this pack if you dont own cats & dogs. 5/10.
