The Sword in the Stone of Tuscany

The Sword in the Stone of Tuscany is a legendary site with a fascinating history, often compared to the story of King Arthur’s Excalibur.

Unlike the mythical sword of Arthurian legend, however, this sword is real and still embedded in the rock at Montesiepi Chapel near San Galgano Abbey.

The story behind it is tied to the dramatic life of Galgano Guidotti, a former violent knight who, after a vision of Archangel Michael in 1180, renounced his past and sought a life of devotion.

In an act of faith, he drove his sword into solid rock where it miraculously sank, forming a cross with the hilt. This site became his home until his death a year later.

Scientific research has confirmed the sword's authenticity, dating it back to the 12th century, aligning it with Galgano’s era.

The sword’s composition and the surrounding rock provide compelling evidence that the object has remained in place for over 800 years, further blurring the lines between legend and reality.

While some once dismissed the story as myth, these findings lend credibility to the tale of Galgano’s divine act.

Adding to the intrigue of the site are the remains of two skeletal hands displayed nearby, linked to a chilling local legend.

According to the tale, a thief who tried to steal the sword was attacked by wild wolves, leaving behind only his severed hands.

Today, the sword remains embedded in the rock, symbolizing peace and faith rather than the quest for power and continues to attract visitors, intertwining history, legend, and mystery.

Tommy isn't sure why he answers the phone. He's aware that he kind of hates himself, but this is a level of self-flagellation he doesn't often reach.

"I cannot believe I used to think you were smart," the other person says.

"So," Tommy says. "This is what it takes to hear from the elusive Eddie Diaz."

Eddie sighs. "Grow up, man."

"Hey, you're the one calling me to, what? Rip me a new one? For what purpose exactly?"

"I can yell maturely. You're an idiot who needs to get his head out of his ass. There, see? Didn't even raise my voice."

"Have you ever heard the phrase 'the lady doth protest too much'?"

"Have you ever heard the phrase 'I like tacos not hotdogs'?"

Disgusting. Tommy really missed this asshole. "I've seen you together and I've seen good friends. You two are not-"

"Most friends haven't watched each other almost die enough times to fill up the fingers on one hand. It doesn't mean we want to bang."

"I know you don't," Tommy says.

"What."

"Adhering to bro code this closely even though said bro didn't even ask is the most heterosexual guy behavior I've ever seen."

"Tommy, for the love of-" Eddie groans. "I have had my own shit going on." Sure, whatever. "The last thing I needed was to set Buck off into a betrayal spiral once he found out we were still friends. He was already the biggest sadsack in SoCal and that was before I decided to move."

"What are you talking about?"

"It would have made Buck even more pitiful to know I still got to see you and he didn't? What's not clicking?"

That makes no sense. Evan wasn't pitiful.

"Tommy."

Tommy rubs the back of his neck. "He said he's been fine."

"Do you mean to tell me you got snowed by Evan Buckley? Evan "my face is literally just a direct screen to my brain" Buckley?" Eddie scoffs. "Jesus Christ, you deserve each other."

"So," Tommy says, tentatively. "So he-"

"Lost his freaking mind over you. I was legit worried about his safety for that first month or so."

Nothing has ever made less sense.

"Idiot," Eddie continues. "At least now I know it was mutual. God, you know what? Don't get back together actually. You both give me heartburn."

Tommy lets out a weak laugh. "Goodbye, Eddie."

"Ask him about the baking," Eddie says, cryptically, and hangs up before Tommy can even begin to think of a response.

domestic jerejean tidbits for this wonderful morning

jean doesn't let jeremy cook and jeremy always does the dishes so he can feel helpful

they still go for morning runs and then long walks with jabberwocky before lunch

jeremy buys one of those pet backpacks for jean to take jabberwocky on rides with

jean will send jeremy to work with trays of baked goods when he's been stress baking close to playoffs

jeremy wanted to make homemade treats for jab and it started off so disastrously that jean relegated him to decorating the jar

(he knew better than to let jeremy try but he was so excited)

jean still watches cat and lailas pro games and texts them throughout with blunt suggestions

the first real color in jeans wardrobe is blue

they have a huge collection of sea glass and beach rocks, and they're running out of space for it

there's a postcard collection on their fridge of all the places they've visited, but some from kevin

jeremy has a barkbark shrine that jean hates but will not let anyone suggest taking down

they drive to the beach on the weekend to listen to the waves

jean learns to stand with him feet in the water and they walk along the ocean with jab

they definitely both fall aslep on the couch during movie night
