Today's NPC is the truffle! you would not BELIEVE how hard it was to design this guy.

I actually started trying to design him ages ago, right after the Dye Trader, and it was a total nightmare. I ended up drawing over two pages of wildly different mushroom men, some based off bionicle, some based off the vortigaunts, and all of them lacking something.

Finally, Something was hashed out, and I'm proud to present Porcini, the Hyperlight Alice's onboard smith.

Originally he was discovered living as a solitary hermit deep underground, but jumped at the opportunity to come along when it was shown that his creations would receive actual use in the hands of Vix and co. He may be a gentle soul, but he loves making weapons. He's connected with nature, which is not a pacifistic force. As a member of the fungal network of glowing magic mushrooms that spread across the universe, he has a unique ability to understand the inner-spirit of all things. He's able to understand which metal would most like to be a gun, and how to sing it into the right shape so that it can be most effective.

He's a mushroom of little words, but quite friendly, even if he has a mischievous streak. It seems his long time alone has left him highly entertained by everyone's various squabbles and dark secrets, so he's quite likely to be occasionally unhelpful if it leads to something he considers entertaining.

i promise i promise i promise i'll explain s.o.u.p. in depth later but for now , i might as well introduce one of the characters !

meet helio pyrose , one of the older students of the school for the odd , as well as one of the quietest . his power , which allows him to heat his palms like stovetops to temperatures hot enough to melt metal , could be practically applied in combat , but helio prefers to use it for simpler things , like thawing frozen food and keeping himself warm during the cold winters his hometown frequently experienced . he keeps to himself upon transferring into the school for the odd , but a few students take to him in spite of his efforts to lay low . the most persistent of these is an all-too-curious zombie who seems keen on trying everything helio cooks up in the dorm building's meager kitchen , despite the fact that they can't eat normal food ...
