This strip has been a script in my document file for almost a year before I sussed out how to make it work the way I wanted. Originally, it was written to just be Heidi and I on the couch, fighting over the remote. She likes to skip intros. I do NOT. This is a regular debate in our home. lol When I realized that for the final panel gag to make any SENSE, it would work better if the strip ITSELF had a "Skip Intro" button, it all came together. It's surreal and weird, and I am happy with how it all came together.

anyone else feel like all those analysis/video essays from 2014-2020 that deal with politics in media and philosophy and political debunking (think hbomberguy, shaun, skip intro, jack saint, big joel etc) feel so. idk. depressing now?

like they all try so hard to analyze this media and these events and these political movements, and they often have like. a LOT of effort put in. graphs, elaborate data, etc, and when i watched them then, it was like an antidote to all the far right bullshit that was spewed all over the place often by ppl laughing at it. highly entertaining and funny and also interesting and informative and a gateway for you to research more and think, and a lot of them help me develop my views on like. far right looneys from "they're just assholes" to "the large ones are motivated by capital, economics, and grifting, and the lower-class ones are reeling from economic shifts and tie cultural memory with economic memory (eg. I can't buy a house now, therefore the gays are what's wrong with the world since they showed up then.)" and these videos kind of have this hopeful tinge to them. like they all end with stuff like "well, if we build communities and organize labor and talk to these people, (and produce enough content to combat the far-right stream of disinfo) then maybe, maybe we can win. it will take a massive amount of change but we can do it, on a small scale first then a larger one." and then like none of that happened.

like the antidote was made and it was wonderful and it didnt matter for anyone except those healthy anyway. n like none of it happened. there wasnt mass community organizing (i tried but like. i was one teen), the ppl who were far right didnt stop being far right, and we like. went backwards. like there was a vid about how modern family or whatev normalized gay ppl and now its like we're going back. like far right assholes are in power n culturally important, the last election had right-wing talking points as the fulcrum of every discussion and trump WON by way way more than last time and most ppl i know either shifted right or were radicalized left but hopeless abt it. u see all these vids and they're like "well, heres a way we could fix this, here's the data to back this up, etc etc etc" or "here's how this media perpetuates negative beliefs about police" or whatever and then we didnt fix it and the media didnt change or still exists. all the hope they seem to have feels so fcking hollow when we are in the future they talk about and know everything still sucks.

There is definitely a...vibe to the way it handles the police. I clocked that much in the theater. I don't know that I'd call it extremely pro-police, but it definitely didn't feel like the movie was where I am, with regards to cops. It was a mixed bag. I think, other than an unwavering "Cops are human beings," it was trying desperately to be open to interpretation as far as what its position was on police, while also making their well-being immutably pivotal to the plot. I'd say it skewed pro-police, with some critical aspects peppered in, but I also think it's possible that someone of a different political leaning than myself could watch it and think it skewed anti-police with some sympathetic aspects thrown in. (I think the former is more accurate, though.)

I would still recommend the movie to adults to enjoy and consume critically, but I can understand thinking twice about showing it to a child.

Not sure if you've seen this, but it might be a good resource about it.

'Andrew Scott gave fans an ‘unexpected’ Irish language lesson this week as he showed off some of his favourite phrases as Gaeilge in a new interview.

The actor, whose latest project Ripley has just hit Netflix, was a guest on the Skip Intro podcast when he decided to show off his language skills.

During the segment, the Irish actor was asked what foreign languages he can speak, with the star revealing he can dabble in a few tongues.

When asked if he’s still working on his Italian, Andrew replied: ‘I’m trying, I’m trying.’

The host then pushed the question further, asking; ‘Do you speak all the romance languages now?’ to which the Fleabag star responded: ‘I speak a little French, a little Irish Gaelic…’

Clearly intrigued, Andrew happily obliged and showed off his Irish language skills to the podcast crew.

‘Go raibh míle maith agat, which means “thank you very much” for having me today.’

He added: ‘Go n-éirí an bóthar leat, which means “may the road rise up to meet you”. Isn’t that beautiful?’

‘That’s so lovely!’ the host remarked, with the All Of Us Strangers actor clearly delighted, ‘I love that.’

Fans of the Irish native were delighted to see him use our language on a global stage, with many taking to the comments to share their excitement.

‘Such a beautiful language,’ one user praised.

‘I didn’t realize I needed this until now. Thanks for the unexpected language lesson, Andrew!’ another added.

‘I think he flaked and added “Gaelic” instead of just calling it “Irish” because people don’t believe it’s a real language,’ a third reasoned following a few remarks from disgruntled Gaeilgeoirí.'

Two youtube channels I can definitely recommend are PushingUpRoses and Skip Intro. PushingUpRoses likes to cover a variety of topics, including some of the sillier episodes of Murder, She Wrote. Skip Intro, on the other hand, covers mainly TV shows with a series on copaganda.
