Skywave Linux 4.4 is releases and on the wires, friends. Yeah, maybe I'm biased because I develop it, but dayum I sure enjoy using SuperSDR. And DirectKiwi. Snd the SDR Map utility. They make it so easy to tune around the bands and find great broadcasts.

Skywave Linux 4.4 (GNOME + i3)

Skywave Linux 4.4 is in the works. Currently I am working on the keybinds, as the keys in i3 don't quite match the GNOME defaults - and many conflict with the hotkeys for SDR and radio streamer apps in Skywave Linux.

When the iso is released, you can just replace your old iso with the new one. You'll be able to switch easily between i3 and GNOME, and the keys will (mostly) work the same way in either session.

A nearly two hour video of AB9IL collecting geolocations on the 3860 kHz ham radio jammers. Sometimes it was a pileup of noise and music dumped on those alt-right brownshirts who congregate to circle jerk on 75 meters every night.

Skywave Linux 2.3 Released

Skywave Linux 2.3 is released, available for download via bit torrent: http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page=torrent-details&id=41cca6cdd7c79c905466f9d0c89c732b05544a6a and from SourceForge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/skywavelinux/ It has updated software packages, a fresh kernel, and a higher gain VGA setting in the rtl-sdr firmware.

Would you prefer your your rtl-sdr firmware to have different gain and filter settings? You can adjust devices with R820 tuners on the fly using the R820Tweak utility. In the picture above, what you see is a VOR station received via RTL-SDR and presented through Gqrx. Using R820tweak, I adjusted the dongle to provide moderate LNA gain while reducing the mixer and VGA gains. Reception was slightly improved in this case, but overall, the unmodified linux drivers are pretty good though the gains are a few dB too high. Your mileage may vary - try R820tweak and experiment!
