Summary: A smile spreads across Wei Ying’s face. He has a long and extensive list of Favorite Gifts From Lan Zhan, and at the very top of the list are nights like this. “Lan Zhan? Sleepwalking again, huh?” Lan Zhan looks up at him, eyes open but unmistakably glassy, and continues methodically peeling stalks of celery. “Mn.” -- Five times Wei Ying says how he really feels while Lan Zhan is sleepwalking, and one time Lan Zhan is awake to hear it. Kay's comments: What an absolutely adorable story!! Cuteness overload!! I still haven't recovered!! A 5+1 story in which Lan Wangji sleepwalks and his roommate Wei Wuxian looks out for the most adorable sleepwalker in the world. I loved, loved, loved how until the very end the only interactions we had between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji was only during the night when Lan Wangji sleepwalked, so we really only knew what Wei Wuxian told us about their relationship through their POV. Major cuteness with a hint of angst. Excerpt: He smiles when he speaks again, even though his audience won’t really see it. “Ah, wonderful Lan Zhan, you’ve worked so hard, and you’re going to wake up soon. You need to go back to bed.” Lan Zhan emphatically shakes his head. “I have to make him something. It must be perfect, he deserves—” He shakes his head again, agitated. “He is so good, he doesn’t think he should get good things, but he does. I will give him good things.” “I can—” Wei Ying coughs a little. There’s a lump in his throat, and he wonders if he’ll ever get used to this. All these reminders of how good Lan Zhan really is. How good Lan Zhan is to him. “I can make the cake for Wei Ying. You need to go rest, Lan Zhan. I promise I’ll make him the best osmanthus cake in the world, I just need you to go back to bed.” “If it’s not good, I will kill you,” he says, deathly serious. Wei Ying carefully breathes around the sensation in his chest that feels like it’s being filled by an expanding balloon. “I’ll keep that in mind,” says Wei Ying, and he gently tugs Lan Zhan back to his room to put him to bed.
pov wei wuxian, modern setting, modern no powers, 5+1 things, roommates, friends to lovers, getting together, sleepwalking, sleepwalking lan wangji, humor, fluff and humor, cute, soft lan wangji/wei wuxian, accidental confession, love confessions, family feels, light angst, angst with a happy ending

Lan Wangji has not told Xichen about the sleepwalking, but little escapes his notice - with regard to his brother, at least. Lan Wangji is fairly sure that Meng Yao could hide a body in Xichen’s wardrobe without him batting an eyelid.

I mean it’s a fucking terrible idea to talk about sleepwalking in a fandom with high amounts of wartime PTSD so like. No-war AU or some shit, where Wei Wuxian starts sleepwalking almost immediately after they get to Cloud Recesses, and normally that’s not that bad, he just tends to crawl into bed with Jiang Cheng or Jiang Yanli cause he’s forever searching out body heat and cuddles, (which would also very much help JC to realize that WWX loves him when he doesn’t even crawl into JFM’s bed but he will with JC and he feels loved AND annoyed) but things go a little funny the first morning Lan Wangji wakes up with that annoying Wei brat in his bed cuddled up to his chest and giving him a boner. How DARE he. They try everything to prevent it, they try locking him in, changing his room, trying out sleep meds, putting guards outside his door, that one has the most success with the two whole times Lan Xichen was up and with many giggles and gentle big brother voice, lead him back into the room and into Jiang Cheng’s bed, which Wei Wuxian accepted for a replacement, with grumbles. But almost every morning. There he is in Lan Wangji’s bed, mumbling about cultivation techniques and lookin kissable. Lan Wangji isn’t losin a minute of sleep if you know what I mean :) Lan Xichen and Jiang Yanli are planning their wedding, and Lan Qiren can’t even punish WWX for something he does in his sleep, and kicking him out would be like victim blaming in a way. So. Instead. He just drinks. A LOT. Of tea. And maybe plans their wedding with the gossips on the days he’s less annoyed with WWX.

back again with another translation question! :3c i'm wondering how you would translate this part from family banquet part 2?
 果然,到了巳時的尾巴,魏無羨準時無比地從榻上直挺挺地坐了起來,夢遊一樣地摸下床,先摸到藍忘機,撈過來在懷裡揉了兩把,再習慣性地捏捏他大腿。
there are a few translations of it but they're quite different to each other and they all read a bit oddly in english, so i'm wondering what exactly is going on here :p
Indeed, at the tail end of 10 o'clock, without missing a beat Wei Wuxian sat straight up from the mattress and groped his way off the bed like a sleepwalker, first finding Lan Wangji with his hands, scooping him into his arms for a couple of caresses, then giving his thigh a squeeze with practiced ease.
(I don't totally get what 撈過來在懷裡揉了兩把 is referring to, because there's no subject except--implicitly--LWJ, but the way it's written sounds similar to how MXTX writes about something... dirtier lol. However, it doesn't seem to make much sense if I try to interpret it that way so, that's all I got)

Mud on Your Feet, by AvoOwO (10 chapters)
Wei Ying is not in bed.
Normally, Wei Ying is curled up next to Lan Wangji when he wakes at five. Wei Ying will be strewn about, soft limbs and dark hair fanned and sprawled, leg over Wangji's hip, arms wrapped tightly around his chest, and face pressed into his neck. Even in sleep, Wei Ying is a bundle of energy; he is always moving. Now, Wangji wakes to a cold bed, and no Wei Ying.
A series of sleepwalking episodes leaves Wei Wuxian refusing to sleep, and Lan Wangji at his wit's end on how to deal with them. It appears, however, that it is anything but simple sleepwalking. And there is no telling just what may happen if the episodes are left unchecked.
Explicit:
Captured, by Incandescentflower (5th in a series)
The weakness of the core draining had left Lan Wangji feeling defenseless at times, but he needed only to think back to Wei Ying and the power he had displayed that day, before he started to feel something else. Something more animalistic and wild. A need to be kept. A need only to be fulfilled by Wei Ying.
This time Lan Wangji had the idea.
Or, the time when Lan Wangji realized he has a Yiling Patriarch kink.

He makes a new one then, staring into the flames. He swears it on the memory of Nie Mingjue’s lips against his skin and Lan Xichen’s cold silver eyes. He’s made of regret instead of Jin Gold now and he will not cower down in fear. He will make his father pay for it.

Subjugation Part 1
Read the Previous Chapter [Here]
Word Length: 3,913
Summary: With a victory comes more trials.
The call of a songbird broke through the calm morning of the Cloud Recesses. As the morning bell rang, disciples sedately got into their natural routine. Servants fluttered about the premises attending to the large influx of visiting cultivators still on the sect grounds.
The sound of a guqin permeated throughout the Jingshi. The simple melody struck from the Second Jade of Lan’s fingers sent a calming aura to those who happened to pass by.
In another room of the residence, the song filtered through the closed door and surrounded the bewitched cultivator inside.
“Calling me......”
“Master.....is....”
“Calling.....call-*Gasp*!”
With a sudden start, he woke. Sitting up in a rush, coughing harshly into one hand and rubbing his sore neck with the other, Wei WuXian was both alarmed and confused.
“What? Where...where am I?, “he coughed
While unfamiliar with his surroundings, he immediately knew that he was back in the Cloud Recesses. Stark white sheets stitched with protective embroidery covered his person, the GusuLan sect symbol was adorned on one of the walls, and the familiar sandalwood scent of the Second Jade flowed from the nearby incense burner.
“Gusu?, “Slipping out of the bed, WuXian stretched, pulling at strangely sore muscles, “Lan Zhan? Zewu-jun?”
Hearing the sound of the guqin, he stepped lightly out of the room. Hand against the wooden walls, WuXian shambled down the hall towards the sound. Coming into the common room, he quickly raised his hand to block the sun from his eyes.
A white clad figure sat on the other side of the room near the window.
“Lan Zhan?, “he called weakly
Nimble fingers immediately stopped plucking at the guqin’s strings. Head snapping up, the Second Jade of Lan was almost frozen in place as he saw Wei WuXian in the doorway.
“Wei Ying, “the Second Jade of Lan stared at him, golden eyes wide and bright
“Lan Zhan? Weren’t we.....weren’t we on a night-hunt?, “the Jiang cultivator mumbled while stumbling into the room, “Your brother he...
Nearly flying out of his seat, Lan Wangji rushed over to the confused man taking him into his arms and looking him over. Hands coming up to his face, Lan WangJi sighed in relief to see familiar radiant silver eyes.
“Wei Ying, “taking his hands, he brought them up to his face, giving them a quick kiss
Eyes going wide and cheeks flushing a deep red, Wei WuXian stammered out, “Lan...Lan Zhan, what...what’s going on.”
“Sit, “Hand going to the small of his back, WangJi led him over to the table, urging him to rest
“Are you okay, Lan Zhan?, “WuXian asked giving the jade a once-over himself
Sitting to his side, the Lan heir replied, “You have been in a trance for almost a month.”
“What?, “turning his head sharply a look of disbelief was etched onto his face
“You don’t remember anything, “WangJi narrowed his eyes in displeasure, “You have been sleepwalking, your eyes changed color, you were calling for your “Master.”
“A master, “WuXian mutter, hand coming up to his neck again, “I...really don’t remember any of that.”
“What do you remember, “WangJi questioned
“I remember....hearing a voice, then....your brother’s voice and then....the song you were just playing, “WuXian scrunched his nose in concentration
WangJi pursed his lips at that answer, “It came for you, that “Master”, “he continued
“Really, what was it?, “intrigued, WuXian leaned back against the wall
“We don’t know yet, “WangJi shook his head and then stood from his position, “You need to eat.”
“I’ll come with you, “moving to stand, Wei WuXian was stopped by WangJi gently pressing him back down by the shoulders
“No need, “WangJi shook his head, “Stay here.”
WuXian grinned, “Aw, Lan Zhan, I’m out of commission for a few weeks and you treat me like one of your little rabbits.”
“Stay, “WangJi gave him a serious look before tentatively leaving the room
A small smile found its way onto WuXian’s face as he heard the front door open and close. Huffing, he looked down toward the zither left on the table, gently plucking at the silver strings.
Huh, “WuXian mumbled, stringing a small melody
...
Unbeknownst to Wei WuXian, Lan WangJi made sure on the way to procure food to delay telling anyone other than his brother and uncle that the Jiang cultivator had awakened, wanting him to have a little time to readjust to his surroundings. The two spent the morning together, Lan WangJi informing Wei WuXian of the past three weeks, and Wei WuXian listening on trying to make heads or tails of the situation. After lunch however, when he could stall no longer, Wei WuXian was escorted from the Jingshi by a couple of servants to meet with the sect leaders in the discussion hall while Lan WangJi was asked to watch a class due to Lan Qiren’s needed absence.
“Young Master Wei, it’s wonderful to see you awake!, “Sect Leader Wang said gleefully
“You gave us all quite the scare, Young Master Wei, “Sect Leader Yao added, clapping the man on the back
“Ahaha, “WuXian gave them a hearty grin, “This one is grateful for Wang Zongzhu’s and Yao Zongzhu’s concern.”
"There’s been quite the commotion going on since you went under. Tell us, Young Master Wei, do you know what that creature is?, “Sect Leader Yao asked
“Second Young Master Lan has informed me of what happened, “WuXian said, nodding amicably toward the minor sect leader, “But no, I haven’t a clue what it is either.”
"How unfortunate, I fear we will all be trapped here, “Sect Leader Yao said in a morose tone
“I was told it was injured. I doubt it will come back for a while. You should be free to leave the Cloud Recesses today if you wish, “Wei WuXian gave a comforting smile
“I see, I see. Well, if that’s the case, then I will send my disciples on ahead, “Sect Leader Wang nodded their head, “Wei WuXian, seeing as you were out of sorts, I never did get to speak with you on this matter. I was wondering-”
“Wei WuXian, “turning around, the Jiang disciple was faced with the Wen Sect Leader
Wei WuXian bowed, “Wen Zongzhu”
The two minor sect leaders flinched, giving a quick bow to the Great Sect Leader before nodding at Wei WuXian and quickly walking off.
“I see your up and lively, “the Wen Sect Leader mused, eyes roaming up and down the young man
“I feel quite alright. The Lans have given me excellent treatment, “WuXian said, unintentionally bringing a hand up to his neck and rubbing at it again
“We were concerned about your health, “Wen Ruohan smirked at the Jiang cultivator, “That creature’s affect on you was strong.”
“I’ve heard, “WuXian said amicably, “Though, I’m unable to recall much from the past few weeks.”
"That so, “Bringing a hand up, Wen Ruohan rested his face against one long finger
“I was told there’s still a hunting party out for the creature, some of your disciples, Wen Zongzhu?, “WuXian pondered
“When Second Young Master Lan returned with you and a piece of that creature, I thought it best to send a fresh batch of disciples not tired from the fighting, “Ruohan smirked, “Hopefully they will bring back the entire corpse this time.”
Wei WuXian nodded at the man, eyes contemplating. Having been told of his intentions to take him back to Nightless City, he was doing his best to make sure the man didn’t have any reason or ability to waylay the other sects or himself.
“a-Xian, “looking to his side, Wei WuXian gave a wide smile to the Jiang contingent
“Uncle Jiang, “Wei WuXian bowed once more, “Yu-Furen, Shijie, Jiang Cheng”
Narrowing her eyes at him, Yu ZiYuan did not reply. Scoffing, she turned her head away, watching the minor sect leaders converse.
“Jiang Zongzhu, “Wen Ruohan nodded at the other man, a perceptive look in his eyes
“a-Xian, “Yanli walked forward and placed a hand on his arm, “How are you?”
“I’m fine. Seems I slept for quiet a while, so I’m full of energy today!, “he grinned letting out a small laugh
Jiang WanYin rolled his eyes, slapping at WuXian’s chest.
“Look at you, strutting about like some high born lord, have some shame, won’t you, “the Jiang heir waved at hand in WuXian’s face
Wei WuXian simply replied with a grin and said placidly, “I can’t, I’m so full of energy I can barely even stand straight.”
Yanli smiled, “Then, a-Xian should come home and spend all his energy there. We’ve missed you all this time.”
Wei WuXian smile shrunk at that, “Shijie”
Hands coming up looked to be reaching for her shoulders, but then stopped and re-thought their decision. Wei WuXian let his hands drop to his side once more.
“I...can’t go home yet, “a guilty look came upon his face as Yanli’s shattered
“a-Xian, “she said in a quiet tone
Wei WuXian continued, “I wish to stay in Gusu for just a bit longer. I have to find this monster and be rid of its enchantment.”
Wen Ruohan hummed to himself, watching the four Jiang’s reactions. Father and daughter looked both shocked and disgruntled by his words, while mother and son balked and narrowed their eyes at him.
“What! Wei WuXian you...., “Jiang WanYin stalked forward
Jiang Fengmian raised a hand, cutting his son off short, before sighing and replied, “I’m afraid I can’t allow that, a-Xian.”
“Uncle Jiang, “giving the sect leader his full attention, the man was gazing at him with an intense look
“We need you back at Lotus Pier, “the Jiang Sect Leader replied
“I’m no use while I’m still under this monster’s spell, “Wei WuXian countered
“We can help you look for it, “Fengmian opposed, “Besides, you’re in no condition to look for it yourself.”
“Who else but not me, “the Jiang disciple questioned
“a-Cheng can handle the monster while you get back to your original duties, “the sect leader words sounded final
Sect Leader and Head Disciple stared at one another, faces covered with a stoic mask; Jiang Fengmian stood with his arms crossed and eyes slightly lidded, while across from him WuXian arms laid flat against his sides and his lips pursed. The younger man suddenly sighed, face softening ever the slightest. It looked as if the man was going to concede when surprisingly, Wei WuXian gave the deepest bow possible.
“a-Xian, “Fengmian raised a questioning brow
Wei WuXian looked up at Jiang Fengmian from between his eyelashes, “Uncle Jiang, please, allow me to stay for a little while longer. I can learn and act faster in the region where I was attacked. If I go back to Lotus Pier, there is no telling how the situation will change.”
Looking down at his ward, Jiang Fengmian was well aware of the stares they were garnering from the other attendees in the room. Side eyes and whispers were drawing up in the corners of the discussion hall, and Lan Qiren and Lan XiChen both looked ready to stride over.  Looking to his side, he noticed the Wen Sect Leader’s eye on his Head Disciple, brilliant eyes shining as he gazed upon him.
Jiang Fengmian was quiet for another moment longer before he sighed, “I will only allow you three weeks, a-Xian. Then, you will return to Lotus Pier.”
Body feeling as if multiple weights were thrown upon his shoulders, Wei WuXian could only assent, “Three weeks.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, all of the visiting sects departed from the Cloud Recesses along with their disciples. After meeting with the Jiang contingent at the gate to wish them farewell on their departure, Wei WuXian headed straight for the Lan Sect’s library pavilion.
“So, let’s start from the beginning, “Wei WuXian smiled at the Twin Jades while pulling out a blank scroll, brush at the ready
“I was attacked during a fierce corpse infestation, my first night-hunt in a couple weeks since I came here to recuperate, “he began, “This creature rendered me unconscious and drank my blood.”
WuXian began to draw the creature on the scroll, WangJi’s detailed report of its appearance from yesterday still brimming in his mind. Eyes narrowed in determination, he tried to search his brain for any memory of the creature.
“I was put under some sort of enchantment. Every night I would rise and try to find my “Master”, “the Twin Jades nodded at him
Minutes past and the illustration was placed before them. The creature of the night was arranged with its fangs bared and claws and wings outstretched. Underneath was a blank space for the name of it.
"Two night-hunts were conducted to try and eliminate this creature, however it was only injured and a second party was sent the next morning to finish the job, “WuXian finished and dropped his brush in the ink pot
“WangJi’s the one who ended up doing the most damage, “XiChen smiled at his brother, “He brought you back while the rest of us tried to tail it before it disappeared into the clouds.”
“My hero, “WuXian gave a wink to the second Lan heir
WangJi shook his head fondly while “XiChen pondered, “You broke it’s enchantment the next morning. Do you have any idea how, WuXian?”
Taking out a blank piece of parchment, WuXian began to speculate, “It probably ran out of energy, “the Jiang cultivator replied while he wrote, “You said it had a healing factor; it’s more than likely that Lan Zhan injured it to the point where it needed to put all its energy into healing and less into enchanting me, so I ended up breaking out of it.”
“But that means that it may try to enchant you again if it heals, “XiChen frowned
“I can’t help that now, “WuXian shook his head, “We can only hope that the hunting party finds it and at least injures it again; it would surely gain me some time.”
“But then you would be in Wen Zongzhu’s debt, “XiChen said what he wasn’t saying
WuXian shook his head again, “One problem after the other. For now we can only try and figure out what it wants with me”
The First Jade of Lan tapped his finger on the table in contemplation while the second grabbed his own piece of parchment and a brush for his own thoughts.
“The creature..., “XiChen paused, “A sexual component may factor in.”
Turning his head, WuXian asked, “How so?”
“When you escaped the Cloud Recesses, the monster came for you, “XiChen explained, “It...embraced you...before trying to drain your blood.”
WuXian raised a hand to his lips, disturbed, “That so...”
The Twin Jades watched as the Jiang cultivator ran a finger over his lips, a wide frown adorning them.
“Wei Ying?, “WangJi asked, concerned
“It’s nothing, “WuXian immediately replied, “Just...surprised is all”
The brothers watched as Wei WuXian bit his bottom lip before sighing deeply. Looking back up at them, he immediately changed the subject.
“Lan Zhan?, “the Second Jade nodded, “What’s the name of your song?”
“Why?, “WangJi asked
“I like it, “WuXian smiled, “It sounds nice so I want to know the name. Is it a Gusu folk song or...?”
WangJi shook his head to say no, but then XiChen said, “You don’t normally play folk songs WangJi, “the First Jade looked to his brother, “What song is it?, “he asked curiously
Both flautists gazed at the Second Jade of Lan, a look of intrigue upon both of their faces. WangJi felt his heart rate increase and the tips of his ears heating up.
“We should be focusing on the task at hand, “the Second Jade muttered
Wei WuXian simply grinned while XiChen smiled fondly.
Standing, the Jiang cultivator took a small stride to a nearby bookshelf, “this library is so big, hopefully there a little something here that can point us in the right direction.”
Smirking in challenge, WuXian turning back to the Twin Jades, “Where should we look first?”
...
Wei WuXian dove into work like an animal preparing for Winter. Only stopping his work for a mandatory mealtime the Lan heirs demanded he take, he rarely stepped out of the library. After spending four days in continuous research, Lan WangJi strode back into his family’s archive and grasped Wei WuXian by the arm, dragging him out for a much needed break and distraction.
“Ah little Yin, you would not believe the trouble I’ve come across, “Wei WuXian lamented as they arrived in the rabbit field picking up the peculiar black rabbit and placing it in his lap as he sat on the ground
The little prey animal sniffed at his hands, flapping its ears as Wei WuXian rubbed a troubled hand down its back.
“You see, I’ve read so many books and scrolls on creatures and beasts that bewitch and enchant their victims, but none of them match the description of the one that’s ensnared me into its grasp, “the Jiang cultivator continued, “So, you see, it’s almost been a week, and I’m no where closer to fixing my problem.”
The rabbit simply flopped over, demanding that Wei WuXian rub its belly.
Wei WuXian huffed, scratching at it stomach, “I suppose it doesn’t really matter to you. Your whole life is spent being spoiled rotten, no?”
“Yin is very spoiled, “Lan WangJi agreed, sitting to the side of Wei WuXian with Yun in his lap and a battalion of other rabbits surrounding the two
“I can imagine, “WuXian smiled at WangJi, “He’s so fat; he’s a giant puffball.”
Wei WuXian scooted closer to Lan WangJi, taking Yin and plopping him into the other man’s lap to be with his companion.
“Y’know, I was talking with your brother a couple days ago, “WuXian looked at WangJi with lidded eyes, “He told me how you cared for me when I was out.”
WangJi didn’t reply, reaching down to make the rabbits in his lap more comfortable.
“Aiya, Lan Zhan, you didn’t have to do that, “Leaning backwards, WuXian tried to find a comfortable laying position in the tall grass
“I wanted to, “WangJi replied, tapping Yin on the nose as they scrounged around looking for more treats
“You wanted to see me half naked and change my clothes?, “the Jiang cultivator raised a brow
“Perhaps, “WangJi huffed
WuXian froze, a pink flush coming up on his face. Turning onto his side, he almost slammed his head against his hand, exclaiming, “Lan Zhan, you can’t just say something like that!”
“I’d do anything for you, “the Lan heir finally looked at him
The man’s cheeks grew redder at the declaration, mouth agape at such a bold statement. Shaking his head, WuXian took a couple of deep breaths before let out a loud laugh and smirked.
“You know what you could do for me now, Lan Zhan?, “the Second Jade blinked at him and WuXian purred, “tell me the name of your song.”
“Not yet, “was the immediate reply and WangJi proceeded to pet Yun again
“Ah, Lan Zhan, “Wei WuXian pouted, “Didn’t you just say you’d do anything for me?”
“Anything, “Wei WuXian could swear he heard laughter in the man’s voice, “It’s not the right time.”
“And when is the right time, “Wei WuXian raised a brow
WangJi turned and locked eyes with him, gold against silver. Tentatively putting a hand out, the Lan heir kept his gaze in line with the Jiang disciple’s; Wei WuXian reached forward, taking his hand with a fond smile.
The rabbits around them hopped about, oblivious to the blushes adorning the two cultivator’s faces.
“That’s for Wei Ying to decide.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The day after, Wei WuXian found himself right back in the library. Every couple of hours, a disciple would come in to return the books and scrolls he no longer needed to their shelves, and a servant would come round the clock asking after him at the request of the Second Jade.
“Snake Yao, no it had the body of a man.”
“Incubus, no I haven’t been dreaming.”
“Jiangshi, no Zewu-jun said it was agile and flew.”
“It didn’t trigger the compass, so not a resentful being.”
Sighing, Wei WuXian leaned back, throwing his brush down on the desk. Squinting his eyes down at his notes, he found himself at a block.
Turning his head to a window, he saw that the sky had turned a deep dark blue, the clouds almost invisible in the darkness. Rubbing his brows in irritation, he noticed that it was getting close to the curfew bell.
‘Another day and no progress, ‘he mentally sighed
Any other disciples using the library had long vacated the premises. Sitting alone, WuXian listened to the nightly insects creaking about. Closing his eyes, he prepared to meditate until the bell.
“a-Ying”
“Who’s there, “immediately jumping out of his seat, he summoned his sword into his hand
“a-Ying~, “the voice called in a coquettish tone
“Come out, “grabbing Subian’s hilt, he was ready to draw the blade at any sigh of movement, “Right now.”
Shadows seemed to stretch along the floor, dancing lanky figures wobbled about in the candle light. Wei WuXian gritted his teeth as he was brought back to his last night-hunt.
“a-Ying, “the voice called again, “Come”
A fire sparked within his neck, rising up to the top of his head. He was filled with a sense of loss and desire; he felt sluggish, sword dropping to the ground out of a loosened grip.
“Master..., “he found himself mumbling, “Master is....calling me”
“a-Ying~, “the voice was pleased, “Come~”
Taking an ungraceful step forward, he murmured, “Calling me....Master is- NO!”
Snapping back to consciousness, he shook his head wildly, trying to shake off the enchantment.
“a-Ying, “the voice became forceful, “Come to me.”
“No, no, “Wei WuXian said through gritted teeth, gripping his head tightly
The shadows grew larger, surrounding him, shifting into arms, they looked as if they would drag him into the floor.
“Ying. You are mine., “the voice was harsh, “Come.”
His body tensed, filling with a sense of worthlessness his entire being became as heavy as stone. His mind demanded that if he wouldn’t move forward, that he should fall to his knees and break.
“Master...no, no. I need. I need., “he nearly cried out
A gentle tune filled his ears as the voice echoed on and on, the soft melody came to him as he fought for control over himself.
“Lan...Zhan..., “he panted
He started to hum, filling the quiet of the library, besides himself as the voice called again. The melody broke through the constant calls from before and came to the forefront of his mind. Worthlessness was replaced with a feeling of appreciation and his body felt renewed. The hold on him crumbled, and the song was now the only thing he could think about.
“WuXian?, “mouth snapping shut, he swerved his head to the side and was met with a worried Lan XiChen
“Ah, Zewu-jun, it’s just you, “WuXian laughed and huffed, sweat dripping down his forehead
“Are you alright?, “the man walked forward, putting a hand on the other’s forehead
“I’m....not okay, “WuXian shuddered, “I was....hearing a voice.”
“I see, “frowning, the First Jade of Lan took him by the arm, “Do you need a healer.”
“No, no, I’m fine now, “WuXian shook his head, “It’s gone....for now.”
“Sit, “XiChen ushered him back to his seat, “I’ll go get WangJi, and we’ll play Clarity and Cleansing for you before you rest for the night.”
“Thank you, “reaching for his research notes, “WuXian said absentmindedly, “I think...Lan Zhan’s...song helped me fight it.”
“WangJi’s song?, “XiChen raised a brow
“It’s the song he won’t tell me the name of, “WuXian huffed, “It...was the first thing I remember hearing after...the voice. I started to hum it and....it’s just gone.”
XiChen smiled, “Well, then you should keep singing it. Maybe if you tell WangJi it helped, he’ll tell you the name as well.”
“Hopefully, “WuXian laughed, “I...need to get back to my notes”
“I’ll be right back, “Sending a careful concerned glance back, XiChen quickly left the pavilion
Watching the man disappear into the night, Wei WuXian twirled his brush in his hands before letting out a frustrated sigh. Reaching forward, he shuffled all his papers together, intending to read them over in the morning, and covering his ink pot with its cap. Throwing everything into a qiankun bag, he sat watching the flickering candles on the table, awaiting the Twin Jade’s return.
“It owns me, “he said to no one, running a hand through his hair
Sitting alone, WuXian let his head fall into the hands, exhausted.

Author’s Notes:
-A Jiangshi is the Chinese Vampire, but for my story I’m not using this. I was inspired to make this from seeing a gif from the movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula so that’s where most of my interpretation comes from.

(Planning the Day) To Meet You
Wangxian, Modern AU, Slow Burn, E-Rated
[Read on AO3]
Chapter 10
As far as love confessions go, Wei Wuxian has thoroughly fucked this one up.
1. He didn’t actually confess.
2. The man he wanted to confess to is currently sleeping, head resting on top of his dining table, after downing three shots, frowning hard at Wei Wuxian for thirty seconds, and announcing “Wei Ying. Tired. Good night.”
Wei Wuxian blames this on several things. First, Lan Zhan had shown up looking incredibly handsome. Sure, he’s always handsome, every second of every day, but today it was even worse. And he’d greeted Wei Wuxian with this barely there smile, radiating a fondness Wei Wuxian still isn’t used to having directed at him - so really, nobody can blame him for losing track of his plan for a minute or an hour.
The second thing is, maybe, that Wei Wuxian didn’t actually have a plan, per se. He knew he wanted to tell Lan Zhan “I’m in love with you, please be my boyfriend” without actually saying any of these words. Terribly uncreative and clichée, and not even the hint of a joke to counteract the sincerity? The thought alone is mortifying. So he decided to wing it, because the more he tried to think about what to say, the more his inner voice insisted that there were no words that could justify him burdening Lan Zhan with this embarrassingly huge mountain of feelings Wei Wuxian has been carrying around.
Which leads to the third thing, which is, according to Wen Qing, his “crippling self-worth issues”, and according to Jiejie his “disbelief that good things can happen to you”. Which… hm. Maybe there’s a kernel of truth somewhere, but also - hey!
He does think Lan Zhan can do better. Wei Wuxian is nothing but a messy ball of chaos, family issues, a criminal record because he was young and stupid and not yet the brilliant hacker he thought he was, abandonment issues and the occasional month or two of insomnia. And his Lan Zhan is just… so good.
A lock of hair has fallen across Lan Zhan’s face and moves every time Lan Zhan breathes out. Wei Wuxian smiles and gently tucks it behind Lan Zhan’s ear.
“Lan Zhan, what do you want me to do, when you’re this cute?”
Maybe Lan Zhan deserves better, but Wen Qing was also right when she said, brandishing a large kitchen knife (either for the vegetables or as a threat or both): “Lan Wangji surely deserves to voice his own opinion on the matter and if he wants to be with you, don’t deny him that just because you’re scared. And an idiot.”
Lan Zahn should have everything he wants in life, and if for some lucky reason this includes Wei Ying, he should do his best to make sure Lan Zahn doesn’t regret liking him.
So, he’ll confess and tell Lan Zhan that he, Wei Wuxian, is ready to commit to whatever level of commitment Lan Wangji is comfortable with. It’s the least he can do.
Well. First, Lan Zhan has to wake up from his drunken slumber.
“Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian softly strokes his cheek and then starts poking it, when there’s no reaction. “Lan Zhannnnnnnnnnn.”
Nope, nothing. Wei Wuxian sighs and pries the empty shot glass out of Lan Zhan’s fingers. Even like this, he’s devastatingly beautiful. Wei Wuxian takes a minute to admire this face he hasn’t been able to get out of his head since that first day at the library. And back then he didn’t even know yet, didn’t even know Lan Zhan could be gentle and caring and secretly funny and stubborn and hadn’t even seen him smile yet, corners of his mouth drawing up ever so slightly and putting anything Wei Wuxian might be carrying at the risk of falling to the ground, because he just. Can’t. Handle. It.
“What’s wrong with Lan Wangji?”
Wei Wuxian freezes and then slowly turns around to see Wen Ning staring at Lan Wangji, obviously concerned.
“Lan Zhan… may be a little drunk.”
“I was gone for no longer than thirty minutes.” Wen Ning comes over, stands next to Lan Zhan, and then pointedly looks at the tequila bottle on the table between them.
“It wasn’t my fault!” He may have opened the alcohol, but he didn’t tell Lan Zhan to drink it!
“Are you just going to leave him here?”
“A-Ning, this judgement in your voice is so unbecoming! What has Wen Qing been teaching you?” Wei Wuxian stands up and puts his arm through Wen Ning’s. “I was, of course, waiting for you! You’re so strong and tall and I’m merely a weak little computer wizard.”
Wen Ning, bless him, doesn’t even roll his eyes. He simply bends forward and carefully maneuvers Lan Zhan into a standing position.
Together, they somehow manage to drag-carry Lan Zhan into Wei Wuxian’s room and lay him down on the bed. Wei Wuxian takes off Lan Zhan’s slippers and arranges the pillow and blanket so Lan Zhan at least looks comfortable. Then he turns around to Wen Ning, who’s been hovering, clearly about to ask some annoying questions.
“So… did you… did you tell him? About your…?” Wen Ning gestures towards Wei Wuxian’s chest, possibly meaning his heart, which is endearing but also makes Wei Wuxian feel like a love-sick teenager. “Is that why he’s… like that?”
“I didn't quite get the opportunity to tell him, no. Also, why is everyone in this household so nosy?”
“I’m sorry. I thought it was okay to ask, because you’ve been talking to us about Lan Wangji non-stop for the past few weeks. I didn’t mean to pry.”
Wen Ning does his best hurt puppy face. Wei Wuxian knows he’s being toyed with while simultaneously being made fun of and he can’t help but laugh, because ah… shy little Wen Ning has come so far, he’s so proud!
“Fine, fine, don’t worry about it. Ask away, whatever.”
“Why were you even drinking? You don’t like tequila.”
That is indeed correct. Since Nie Huaisang’s 18th birthday party, Wei Wuxian cannot smell tequila anymore without having flashbacks of Jiang Cheng and him kneeling next to each other on the floor, vomiting into a bathtub. But the only other alcohol he could find was the beer in the fridge and that just hadn’t seemed like enough.
“A-Ning, I know you’re not the innocent little wallflower your sister thinks you are, so surely you’ve heard of the expression ‘liquid courage’, no? So, yes, maybe this gege of yours needed some courage tonight and yes, maybe I accidentally freaked out Lan Wangji somehow… but he ended up like that all by himself!”
They both turn around to Wei Wuxian’s bed, just in time to see Lan Wangji turn around on his stomach, his arm dragging across the bedside table and pushing Wei Wuxian’s alarm clock to the floor. That’s okay, he never uses it anyway.
“Good luck.” Wen Ning pats his arm and then leaves. Abandons him, basically. Rude. But it’s okay, he doesn’t need help or ‘luck’. Hopefully.
Wei Wuxian sighs, crouches down next to the bed, and gently rolls Lan Zhan on his back. Lan Zhan’s dark blue dress shirt is incredibly soft and shimmery, probably more expensive than all of Wei Wuxian’s clothes put together, and it’s already getting all wrinkly. Lan Zhan will surely be unhappy about that when he wakes up. Wei Wuxian can’t even offer to iron it for him, because they don’t own one.
“Lan Zhan, is it really okay such a person loves you? Someone with no means to straighten out a mess?”
Lan Zhan doesn’t reply, only huffs a little in his sleep.
“Stop being so cute, how many times do I have to tell you? Always trying to make me like you even more, attempting the impossible…” Wei Wuxian adjusts the blanket one last time and then gets up to fetch a bucket to put next to the bed. Just in case.
While Lan Wangji sleeps, Wei Wuxian plays a video game. It takes him a while to be able to focus on it though, because Lan Zhan is lying barely two feet away from him and he looks so soft. He’s also hesitant to put on his headphones, because what if Lan Zhan wakes up or makes cute noises???
However, Nie Huaisang assassinates him seven times in a row and Wei Wuxian cannot let that stand and spends about an hour showing Huaisang why Wei Wuxian’s necromancer would be ranked first on the server if he could actually be bothered chasing such dubious honours.
When Huaisang acknowledges his superiority by saying he’s ‘bored now’ and that he has ‘a hot date anyway’, Wei Wuxian stretches, takes off his headphones and treats himself to another look at Lan Zhan’s face. And almost has a heart attack, because Lan Zhan is sitting up and staring at him.
“Lan Zhan?”
Lan Zhan doesn’t say anything, only blinks slowly. Is he actually awake or doing some kind of sleepwalking or… sleepsitting? Wei Wuxian approaches the bed, Lan Zhan’s eyes never leaving his face, and then sits down on the bed, waving a hand in front of Lan Zhan’s face.
“Lan Zhan? Are you awake?”
“Mn.” Lan Zhan’s gaze is somehow simultaneously somewhere far away and intensely focused on Wei Wuxian. He’s still blinking as though his eyelids weigh several pounds.
“Alright… you can sleep more, if you want.”
“Water.”
“Yes, fantastic idea. Look at you, still so smart and practical, even when you’re drunk and sleepy. Wait here, I’ll get you some water.”
Wei Wuxian starts to get up, but Lan Zhan wraps his hands around his arm and drags him down onto the bed again.
“Wei Ying.” Is Lan Zhan… pouting? No, he is not allowed, that is too cute!
“Lan Zhan?”
“Water.”
“... Yes. I’m going to go and get some for you, okay? But first you have to let me go.”
“No.” Lan Zhan only tightens his hold. Oh fuck, he’s definitely pouting.
“Okay… but you’re thirsty?”
“Mn.”
“But I’m not allowed to get up?”
“Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan drags his hands down Wei Wuxian’s arm until he closes them around his hand.
“Right…” Luckily, Wei Wuxian has plenty of practice arguing with stubborn people who follow their own very special kind of logic, thanks to A-Yuan. “Lan Zhan, how about you keep holding on to Wei Ying then, and we both go to the kitchen to get water?”
“Mn.”
Wei Wuxian manages to get the blanket off of Lan Zhan’s legs and him into his slippers and on his feet without letting go of his hands and doesn’t even have to dislocate his shoulder to do so. Once he’s standing, Lan Zhan follows him obediently into the kitchen. He completely ignores his surroundings in favour of looking at Wei Wuxian’s face, so Wei Wuxian has to take extra care to avoid any of A-Yuan’s toys cluttering the floor.
In the kitchen, he awkwardly uses his free hand to pour Lan Zhan a tall glass of water and puts it on the counter in front of him. Lan Zhan does not pick it up.
“Lan Zhan… that’s for you.” Wei Wuxian points at the glass, then points at Lan Zhan’s face.
Lan Zhan looks down at their hands and shakes his head.
“I would hold the glass while you drink, but that would only end in a wet mess. So, you need to let me go so you can drink.”
Lan Zhan considers this for a second and then says: “Fuck.”
“Did you just swear???” This is truly the best day of Wei Wuxian’s life.
Lan Zhan lifts his chin in defiance, clearly ready to smite everyone who would dare tell him to stop swearing. Wei Wuxian… needs him to drink this water and then sober up immediately, so he can confess or whatever, and then make out with him for five hours straight. He can barely handle Lan Zhan on a normal day, but how is he even cuter when drunk? He’s cursing, because he doesn’t want to let go of Wei Wuxian’s hand to drink some water? Illegal!
“Lan Zhan… how about you keep holding on to me with one hand and use the other for drinking? Mhm? Is that a compromise you could get behind?”
Lan Wangji sighs, clearly agreeing to a great sacrifice, and finally drinks his water. Wei Wuxian makes him drink another glass and then leads him back to his room. Still only able to use one arm freely, he arranges the pillows and his blanket, so they can both sit cross-legged on the bed, while leaning comfortably against the wall.
“I didn’t know you cursed. How naughty!”
“All the time.” Lan Zhan looks at him as though he’s stupid.
“Whaaat, you do? But not in front of me? Should I take it personally?”
“Ah… Only in my head,” Lan Zhan frowns.
“I see… My Lan Zhan keeps a lot of things inside his head, hm?” Wei Wuxian uses his free hand to stroke Lan Zhan’s forehead until he stops frowning. Lan Zhan even closes his eyes and leans a little into his touch.
“Mn.”
“You can swear in front of me all you want. Let it all out.”
Lan Zhan opens his eyes after a while, looking somewhere into the distance and says emphatically: “Fuck.”
“Yes! Exactly! Fuck it up, Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian laughs happily. This is wonderful, Lan Zhan is wonderful.
“Fucking shitballs, “ Lan Zhan says, testing it out. The result seems to please him and he smiles.
“Amazing! I love it!” It’s also kinda hot and Wei Wuxian very much hopes Lan Zhan will keep this up in the future. The possibilities…
Lan Zhan spends some time simply smiling and muttering “Fuck” every few seconds, while Wei Wuxian tries really hard not to laugh. He wants to be supportive of this development, not ridicule it! When Lan Zhan seems to have gotten it out of his system, Wei Wuxian strokes his cheek to get his attention.
“Lan Zhan… you can tell me anything you want, you know? If there are things you’re tired of keeping inside, you can tell me. I will listen and keep your secrets.”
Lan Zhan turns his head and blinks a few times, until his focus is wholly on Wei Wuxian’s face again.
“Want to buy things for Wei Ying,” he whispers.
“... Huh?” What? Wei Wuxian didn’t expect these secrets to be about himself, but maybe he should have? He’d only wanted Lan Zhan to know he should feel comfortable opening up to him… This feels a bit like cheating, and he doesn’t want Lan Zhan to regret it in the morning. But knowing Lan Wangji wants to spend money is pretty harmless, as far as secrets go.
“Wanted to buy flip flops.” Lan Zhan is pouting and saying ‘flip flops’ in the most adorable way - this is a personal attack on Wei Wuxian’s heart!
“Ah… that’s terribly nice of you, but you really don’t have to! I know you probably feel bad because we clearly don’t have a lot of money here and -”
“No.” Lan Zhan scowls at him. “Want to take care of Wei Ying.”
“Oh… okay.” Wei Wuxian realises he cannot handle Lan Zhan’s earnestness any better when he’s drunk. It might be even harder now, because it’s completely unexpected. “Uhm… you’re very sweet, Lan Zhan.”
“Wei Ying is sweeter.” Lan Zhan miraculously lets go of Wei Wuxian’s hand, but only to grab Wei Wuxian’s face and pull him closer. “Fucking sweet.”
“Alright! We’re both sweeties! Got it!” Wei Wuxian must look and sound ridiculous, because Lan Zhan is kind of squeezing his face, squishing his cheeks and lips together.
“May I buy things for you?” Lan Zhan asks with such gravity, how could Wei Wuxian refuse him? How could he ever refuse him anything???
“Yes, yes, you may.”
Immediately, Lan Zhan looks terribly pleased, lets go of Wei Wuxian’s face and fishes his phone out of his pocket. Wait… is he literally going to buy something right now?
“Lan Zhan! What are you doing?”
He tries to grab Lan Zhan’s phone, but Lan Zhan only raises it high above his head, so Wei Wuxian can’t reach it anymore.
“Wei Ying said I’m allowed.”
“Wei Ying has done enough drunk shopping to know this is a bad idea! Give me your phone!”
Lan Zhan gives him his best “I’ll stare at you until you stop being an idiot” frown and Wei Wuxian sighs.
“You can buy me things tomorrow, alright? When you’re sober you can buy me flip flops, or whatever else you want, okay?”
Lan Zhan finally relents, lowers his arm and reluctantly lets Wei Wuxian take the phone from him. He puts the phone on the nightstand, leans back against the wall and suddenly… Lan Wangji turns around until he’s sitting with his back to Wei Wuxian and then leans back until his head is resting on Wei Wuxian’s lap. Oh? Oh.
“Hi?”
“Want to look at you.” Lan Zhan searches for Wei Wuxian’s hand and then presses it against his cheek. Wei Wuxian is still baffled by the fact he suddenly has a lapful of Lan Zhan, but not too baffled that he can’t indulge this drunk, earnest, adorable man and start stroking his cheek.
“I also want to look at you, so this works out nicely.”
“Mn. Like it when Wei Ying takes care of me.”
“Well, taking care of you is one of my favourite things, how convenient!”
“Mmh.” Lan Zhan smiles up at him, and Wei Wuxian really cannot believe this is his reality. These past few days he’s spent telling anyone who would listen, and even when they didn’t want to listen anymore, how he was suffering, because he was so in love with Lan Wangji, he didn’t know what to do with all these feelings and now it turns out he hadn’t even reached maximum feelings yet.
“Anything else you want to do I can help you with?”
“Mn.”
“Oh?”
“Kiss you.”
Wei Wuxian’s brain does the mental equivalent of running into a glass door. Fuck. How is he supposed to… ??!?!?!? Fuck.
“Arnhg… yes… uh, yes, we can do that.”
Lan Zhan’s smile deepens, both corners of his mouth curling up, oh no, help, he lifts his hand to Wei Wuxian’s neck and, oh shit! Wei Wuxian quickly grabs Lan Zhan’s wandering hand and pulls it down again.
“Tomorrow, we can also do that tomorrow. Or a later day. Whenever you want. Any day. Every day. Kissing is a-okay. Very welcome.”
Wei Wuxian keeps stroking Lan Zhan’s cheek, who looks disappointed, and he wants to laugh and cry, because Lan Zhan wants to kiss him. It’s not exactly a shock or a surprise but… if Wei Wuxian hadn’t been such a coward and confessed earlier and this whole tequila debacle didn’t happen, would they be kissing right now? But then he would have missed out on drunk Lan Zhan, which would have been a tragedy!
Meanwhile, drunk Lan Zhan continues to be a menace and turns his head slightly, so he can press a kiss to Wei Wuxian’s thumb.
“Want to fuck you.” And then he bites Wei Wuxian’s thumb.
If Wei Wuxian was holding something, he would have thrown it across the room. But the only thing he is holding is Lan Zhan, and he doesn’t think he could throw him, even if he tried.
“Fuck!”
“Mn.” Wei Wuxian’s thumb is still in Lan Zhan’s mouth.
“Well… yes, we can do that too! Ha… I mean, hell yes. But also, Lan Zhan, please have mercy on me!”
Lan Zhan stops biting him, thank fuck, though, well, it’s not like Wei Wuxian disliked it, but also this is not the time!
“Fucking hell, Lan Zhan…”
For a drunk person, Lan Zhan looks incredibly smug. Wei Wuxian closes his eyes for a few seconds, or minutes, trying to calm his heartbeat and hoping Lan Zhan will fall asleep again soon, so Wei Wuxian can get some rest.
When he opens his eyes, Lan Zhan is still looking at him, though he’s gone back to his slow blinking, which hopefully means he’s about to nod off.
“I hope you’re happy, you have accomplished what Huaisang’s assassin couldn’t, and completely defeated me.”
Lan Zhan hums, though it seems to be a sound of contentment, rather than understanding, and he takes Wei Wuxian’s hand and moves it until it lies on top of his head. Wei Wuxian smiles down at him and begins stroking his hair. Lan Zhan sighs happily, and the next time he blinks, his eyes stay closed.
“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan… you should sleep sweetly, love. And when you wake up… we can start doing all the things you want to do.”
“Mhm.” Lan Zhan’s eyelids flutter and then he opens them under great strain.
“You can close your eyes, it’s okay.”
“Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan’s eyes are suddenly intense, despite the drunk and despite the sleepy. “Have to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“Wei Ying, I l-”
Wei Wuxian quickly puts his hand over Lan Zhan’s mouth, muffling the rest of the sentence.
“Shhh, gege quiet.”
Lan Zhan frowns, clearly unhappy.
“Another thing for tomorrow. Okay? Go sleep now, love, so we can get to tomorrow quicker.”
Wei Wuxian slowly lifts his hand from Lan Zhan’s mouth and puts it on Lan Zhan’s chest instead. Lan Zhan keeps staring at him, but his frown fades as Wei Wuxian continues stroking his hair. Eventually, he drifts off to sleep, hands holding on to Wei Wuxian’s hand again.
Wei Wuxian keeps stroking his hair and looking down at him for a long, long time. He can’t believe he is this lucky. Can’t believe Lan Zhan is here and wants him. Wants them to take care of each other. Ah, Wei Wuxian really wants to cry, but he doesn’t want to cry on Lan Zhan and there is not a fucking chance he is going to move now.
So he keeps smiling, which is nicer than crying anyway.
Tomorrow.

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
(back to masterpost)
I have a backlog a mile long...
But yes, we are back to this point in the story!
Chapter 31: Dew (Part 4)
I remember being kind of worried when Lan Wangji showed up, too, haha. After all, it’s difficult to get a read on his character in the beginning when you lack a lot of context for all of his actions.
“Wei WuXian had never seen him with such an obviously displeased expression on his face before.”
This is saying something given that Lan Wangji had been genuinely pissed at him for various things throughout the years.
“He touched his chin and, for some reason, felt exceptionally guilty.”
I like this little moments where Wei Wuxian is self-conscious. They are brief and the narrative doesn’t linger on them, but they help build an image of him as not as completely and utterly shameless as he is otherwise made out to be at times.
Also adds something to his character that he can’t identify the reason why, just that he does feel guilt. He has awareness of his own emotions, but the reason is not always clear.
“Oh no. Don’t tell me that Lan Zhan really pretended to be drunk so that he could kill Wen Ning after I summon him. Of course. Nobody actually gets drunk after just a bowl.”
lool Wei Wuxian’s worries. Don’t worry, that is totally not his intention. Very reasonable conclusion to make considering he is walking over with his sword, though.
“With a loud smack, Lan WangJi hit Wen Ning.”
now you can laugh
“As if he didn’t think one smack was enough to express his rage, Lan WangJi pushed Wen Ning to about thirty feet away.
He spoke to Wen Ning in an annoyed voice, “Go away.”
And again.
lol Lan Wangji you are so childish when you’re drunk.
“He was even more serious, proper, flawless than usual...But, as he looked down, he found that Lan WangJi’s boots were put on the wrong feet.”
I don’t know how Wei Wuxian didn’t die laughing. I guess he was more freaked out about why the heck Lan Wangji was like this, but it’s pretty hilarious. The proper and formal Lan Wangji...put his boots on the wrong feet.
He’d be a weird sleepwalker, I guarantee it.
“With one on the left and one on the right, he solemnly wrapped his hands around both of Wei WuXian’s fingers.
With a clang, Bichen fell to the ground due to its master’s negligence.”
I guess I’d be freaked out too. Did someone possess Hanguang-jun!? or something like that.
Poor Bichen, you are abused so much in this novel. I couldn’t believe he just dropped it to grab Wei Wuxian’s fingers. The great part is that he does it solemnly, totally serious despite how random this act seems.
Then he totally denies being drunk...
...See, Lan Wangji can lie! When drunk.
“Lan WangJi attentively maintained his gesture of how he grasped Wei WuXian’s fingers, with both of his hands in loose fists.”
I thought this was funny when I first read it, but now it’s sort of sad and adorable all at once.
“Some wailed loudly, others giggled idiotically, some flounced about, others collapsed immediately, some were determined in taking their own lives, others whimpered, “Why are you leaving me?”
The last one of these is a reference to MXTX’s other work, The Scum Villain’s Self Saving System. xD
“Lan WangJi whirled around and angrily smacked him once more.”
Chill, Lan Wangji, stop smacking the poor guy.
“Lan WangJi repeated angrily, “Do not play for him!”
your ugly side is showing, Lan Wangji. haha this is actually the first time he’s been really overt about this jealous side of him in the story, I think. There are various signs littered throughout, but it only becomes really clear when he’s drunk.
“Seeing that Lan WangJi had never been too fond of demonic techniques, he might have not liked how he used his flute to control Wen Ning.”
A totally reasonable assumption. You can’t blame Wei Wuxian for not connecting the dots.
“Anyway, he had to pet him in the direction of his fur, of course, “Alright. I’m only going to play for you, okay?”
Its adorable how patient and accommodating Wei Wuxian is, though like he said, the best thing to do is just go with the flow.
“Yet, unexpectedly, after Lan WangJi heard this, he reached out, grabbed his shoulder, and pulled him into his arms.”
are you sure you’re not possessed, hanguang-jun.
“Lan WangJi, “The face doesn’t show anything. Listen to the heartbeats.”
This is just hilarious in an odd way.
Wei Wuxian hasn’t noticed yet that this is really, really unusual. Lan Wangji dislikes people touching him, yet grabs your hands and shoves your head against his chest? hmmm...
“...it would’ve been impossible for Wei WuXian to treat him with respect and not play any tricks.”
Just can’t help himself, as usual, when it comes to Lan Wangji.
"Having heard no answer from behind him, he turned around only to see Lan WangJi holding the basin in his hands, his face already buried inside.”
loool whhy Lan Wangji why
Wei Wuxian is surprisingly (or not) good at taking care of people though.
“… Did he drink the water or did he not?”
lool his concern. like, oh god he d r a n k the water meant for your face! please don’t let him remember this
I have to admit, I was quite surprised by some of the answers when I first read his little interrogation.
I was like: then why did he have those jars of Emperor’s Smile?? I thought he took up drinking after Wei Wuxian died, but if so why did he not drink the ones in his room?
“Do you like rabbits?” “Yes.”
HA. he does like the rabbits. who can resist them. Though, the Cloud Recesses probably has a bit of an overpopulation problem...how are they not overrun by bunnies?
“Have you ever liked anyone?” “Yes.”
haha
hahaha...
Since Wei Wuxian next asks if he likes Jiang Cheng, then Wen Ning, he meant this in a general term, not a romantic/physical attraction thing. But Lan Wangji answers “Mine.” when he asks about himself.
don’t you think this is a suspicious answer??
“He took Bichen off his back, thinking to himself, When I pointed at myself, Lan Zhan probably thought that “this one” meant Bichen.”
NO. WHY. You asked him what he thought of YOU. arrgghh. why would it make sense for you to ask if he likes his sword? Granted, he figured that his train of thought derailed since he was drunk, but nooo. He doesn’t mean his sword...you see how he treats that poor thing? XD
ALSO:
Jiang Cheng receives a negative response: a frown
Wen Ning receives an indifferent response
haha poor Jiang Cheng.
“Wei WuXian knew that Lan WangJi was desperately drunk, that it wasn’t directed at him, yet those three words still crashed into him, taking away the strength in his arms and legs.”
just think of what he’ll do when it IS directed at him and he finally realizes it
“Bichen was thrown onto the ground by its master again.”
see
“After pausing for a moment, Lan WangJi’s hand came over and, after fumbling around in the blanket for a while, started to slowly untie the ribbons holding his clothes together. Wei WuXian exclaimed, “Okay! Enough! I didn’t mean for you to remove it in this sense!!! Alright!!! Sure! I’m lying down and I’m sleeping!!!”
lool Lan Wangji is a little shit with selective hearing when he’s drunk.
“It seemed that, ever since he came back, whenever he decided to tease Lan WangJi like how he did in the past, he always suffered from his own actions.”
It’s called karma. xD this is what you get for bullying him all those years ago.

Part of the MXTX Remix 2022
Summary: Wei Ying draws in his sleep sometimes. Kay's comments: A remix of the sleepwalking Lan Wangji fic I recced yesterday! In this one, we have sleepwalking Wei Wuxian, who is also incredibly cute. When he sleepwalks, he draws and Lan Wangji - the big sap that he is - of course keeps all his little drawings and tucks Wei Wuxian in. Until, one day, Wei Wuxian draws something a little spicier~ Really loved their chemistry in this one and how caring Lan Wangji is. Excerpt: Each time Lan Zhan finds him like this, he lifts Wei Ying in a bridal carry, careful to avoid disturbing the drawings. He shifts Wei Ying's weight so it's more evenly distributed between his arms. Today the backs of Wei Ying's knees settle over his forearms, his kitten-socked feet dangling by Lan Zhan's knees. It's not difficult at all to lift him - at the food bank he hauls crates of fish and sacks of rice that weigh more than Wei Ying does. He told Wei Ying that once, to try and get him and eat more, but Wei Ying had only pouted and asked Lan Zhan to prove it. Lan Zhan had, of course. He'd watched Wei Ying flush and splutter as he hefted Wei Ying like one of those fish crates, observed Wei Ying's expression change from astonishment to something awed, something wanting. Lan Zhan wondered what would have happened if he had dug his thumb into the spot he knows Wei Ying finds ticklish, just below the hem of his plasticky shorts. He wondered how Wei Ying's expression would have changed then.
pov lan wangji, modern setting, modern no powers, developing relationship, roommates, mutual pining, getting together, friends to lovers, love confessions, sleepwalking, soft lan wangji/wei wuxian, sleepwalking wei wuxian, caring lan wangji

I recently read this story, and its amazing, it explores wwx's trauma in such a creative way, its lwj's pov so we feel both of their pain, also jc and wwx reconciliation! Honestly im not much of a fan of that trope (not bad, just not my cup of tea) yet I loved how it was in this fic, it also has mentions of jyl and how much she affects her siblings in both life and death. Very angsty, very sweet, and overall amazing. I don't have much to say but I think the summary, well, summarizes very well. - Anon

Summary: Wei Ying is not in bed. Excerpt: "When Wen Chao tossed me," Wei Ying starts, "it's…it's dark. And–and I landed, and my back broke. A little higher up, I think. Not quite in the middle. But–but it was my back and an arm, my legs, I think my pelvis, too. But I didn't feel that. So–so it was just me, at the bottom." He glances away, focusing on Chahua in the corner. "I think I spent the first few days laying there. Because–because I couldn't move. And then–and then…because of the core transfer, I couldn't practice inedia, so–so. Sorry, just a second." "Take your time, Airen," Lan Wangji whispers. Wei Ying nods, rubbing his face and breathing in. "There's nothing edible in the Mounds," he says at last. "Nothing grew down in the deepest parts of it. No grass, no weeds or roots or insects. Everything was made to die down there. So–so the only thing down there was corpses. And–and I was going to die if I didn't, so I did. And–and it fucking sucked, so bad, so bad, but I did it." Jiang Wanyin closes his eyes, the letter gripped hard in his hand. His lips tremble with effort. Lan Wangji feels his stomach roll. Nausea builds up in his throat. Bile and spit. Wei Ying sniffs.
