Ironic how a Shonen anime that debuted in the 80s could have been much progressive than the so called "progressive indie queer show" from 2024. Vivziepoop, this is called writing, design, and dedication. Has Toriyama ever acted like a whiny baby because of criticism? No. He actually fixed things and kept people coming for more. He didn't shape one, but several generations. Yes, Dragon Ball has its problems, but Toriyama and the team acknowledged them and fixed them. These are characters, not edgy high school OCs but animated. In my opinion, Piccolo could wipe off Alastor's edgy smile. And heck, Piccolo has much better (unintentional) Black coding than Alastor. Many people in the Black community have identified with Piccolo, unlike Alastor. I've seen more complaints from the Black community on Alastor than praise.

Here with another Vivziepop critique post with something that has bothered people for a while: skin tones!!

Disclaimer: I am not counting characters designed by Viv's POC employees, just the woman herself.

All of the skin tones here were snatched from official media, no fanart, no edits, for both HellaVerse and DB. I know that from the 80s to early 90s, DB gave Black characters donut lips, until the late 90s, where we got some better, non-offensive designs. All of the DB skin tones were snatched from the non-donut lip characters. I really love how none of the skin tones from DB are the same! And the fact that they are colors of actual skin tones makes it better!!! The 13th one is the one that is like mine. Can you see if any match yours?

Queer rep: gay, lesbian, aroace, nonbinary/agender, and polyamorous

We have disabled characters that aren't infantilized (Tommy, the blind boy that befriended Buu)

And after several years of donut lips on Black characters, we have accurately drawn and portrayed Black/dark-skinned characters in DB (Uub, Janet, Rulah, ect.)

Here are some awesome examples:

Piccolo: aroace and agender, also part of the main cast

Kakunsa and Bikal: confirmed and open lesbians in a relationship. Not fetishized or shown as queerbait.

Janet: Pan's preschool teacher and an accurately drawn and portrayed Black character, with a loveable design.

Caulifla and Kale: implied lesbians in a relationship. Not fetishized.

And we can't forget about our fat magical girl, Ribrianne. Not shown as a hated greedy glutton, and with an adorable and loveable design.

Emily and Sera redesigns!!!

Okay so La Vivziepoop said "Oh I want my angels to be Black" but then they're ashy and horribly conveyed as Black.

And also why were the Seraphims weak?? Don't they reside at God's throne and are the most powerful of all the angels? Well basically in Redemption Resort, they are. Sera is the queen of the Heaven born Angels who resides at God's throne with her daughter Celeste, who will be her heir. Sera is the Great Mother of the Heaven Born Angels and was the mother of Lucifer among others. Once he fell, she didn't want to associate with him and when Celeste met Charlie, she was forced to treat her like an acquaintance rather than a new friend. Instead of the Hazbins fighting the Army of Heaven, their first enemies are actually the Overlords and Charlie's meeting was for her plan to redeem her friends. Sera and Celeste are the most powerful angels and conceal their true forms, as they are power wasting. Celeste is seen as a young child-like apparition and instead of having chemistry with Charlie, she just acts like a sort of friendly classmate type and shows her around Heaven. Currently Sera is training Celeste to control her powers and is also helping her improve on her flying. Sera is 8 feet tall and Celeste is about 6 feet tall. I felt like the Seraphims would be exaggeratedly tall to emphasize their power and rank.

WOOOO back with my HellaVerse redesigns, this time, the queen of the Gluttony Ring: Beelzebub!!!

The original design was a bit pleasing, due to the cute colors, but she contradicted her lore...a lot. She could also be mistaken for Lust. Why is she a fox? What is the mohawk in front of her lava lamp hair? What are these clothes? In my rewrite, Bee is a shapeshifter, made of a swarm of flies and demonic honey. She typically takes the form of a wolverine/insect hybrid, since wolverines are typically associated with gluttony!! Fun fact, their scientific name, gulo gulo, is a wordplay on glutton!!! Her stomach can inflate/deflate, depending on her appetite, her hair is edible, but eating it gives you endless manic cravings for food and delusions. Bee is a party girl at heart and is typically hosting food fairs and gobbling up whatever. She likes to dance frequently and is obsessed with Gyaru fashion. I was inspired by Majin Buu and Android 21 from Dragon Ball as well, since they are both gluttonous characters with an endless food craving, and gave Bee one of their powers: the food beam!! Whenever Bee's henchmen are incompetent or she gets furious, she can turn them into food and eat them!!! She and Mammon are like siblings, and constantly have some form of rivalry. Both of them have eating contests to see which one eats more.

Her main inspirations were wolverines, bees, honeypot ants, bearded vultures, and houseflies. The gyaru outfit was inspired by @ezralovrr 's Bee.

Her voice claim is Android 21

Angel Dust redesign!!! He's a genderfluid wolf spider demon who goes by he/they/she. He was a mafia member in the 40s who died of drug overdose. He was born to an Italian family who lived in New York who had many problems, both mentally and financially. Angel Dust, who at the time was known as Anthony mostly wandered around the streets befriending thugs and delinquents. Besides that, I don't really have a backstory for him and his siblings since I suck at backstories. Might do it sometime. I hate how much pink he has in his design and how he just blends in with the background like everybody else. I hate how he sexually assaults others, invades their boundaries, and is literally a stereotypical gay stripper. He also doesn't look like a spider. Where are the pedipalps? The eight limbs? I combined a stripper look with a mafia coat to him. I was originally going to make all his clothing blue, but my friend suggested that his coat should be yellow, to stand out. I made him blue because blue was the biblical color of Lust. My friend helped me with several details, including the silver tooth, the bra, and the coat. He works in the film industry and hangs out at the Black Widow Lounge.
