Ok, so I’ve been doing some amount of fiber arts stuff since I was like 7 or 8 (whenever I learned to make granny squares with my mom). I then graduated to a wide variety of stuff including cross stitch, embroidery, sewing, knitting, and clearly at least once, spinning my own yarn. I then shoved it all in a box because I was 9 and bad at organization, only to paw through whenever I wanted a sewing needle or yarn ball for something. Anyways what I’m saying is that baby Jay ought to be tried for war crimes
Tumblr media
This mess contains, among other things:
yarn balls, only half of which are large enough to do anything with, and only one of which has a label indicating any info about weight, fiber content, or yardage (330 yds of worsted acrylic, btw)
embroidery floss and a hoop, but no needle
seven (7) knitting needles ranging from 4.5mm to 8mm. In that seven, there is only one usable pair (it’s the metal 4.5mms)
a knitting loom with half a scarf
a pair and a half of truly fucked up fingerless gloves
something that is clearly done in very loose stockinette, was never finished, and then was taken off the needles without securing any of the live stitches. I have no clue what it was meant to be
a foot of loose super bulky yarn. I’m pretty sure I made it starting with the sheep. I didn’t shear the sheep, but I started with unwashed raw wool from the 4H sheep I was helping take care of, iirc
faux leather cord
beading thread, but no beads or loom
a singular pin
a scrunchy that would have matched my gymnastics leotard I wore when I was 6 with the elastic removed
rope
a drawstring backpack
a roll of zebra print duct tape
a snapcircuit base
an expired fishing license and pin to attach it to your hat
a book on how to make friends
Anyways, there’s like 5 things in here that I want but first I have to free them from the mixture of poly fill, unmarked plastic crochet hooks, and so much fucking yarn. See y’all in a while

Enrichment.
"Eh..?" [He seems confused as to why this would be left outside of his workshop, as well as who exactly could've left it...] "I mean... couldn't hurt t' bring it in..." [He will not leave the workshop for seven hours. Enrichment indeed.]

Sharing some play ideas as a #musictherapistmom. When I was an intern in an adult disability facility in Brisbane, I came to know about the #multisensoryroom and it was WOW! It costs a bomb and I always wonder if I can create a similar set up in my music sessions. And Yes- actually I do! Music is sensorial and that’s when I like to pair up soft music while dimming the lights or pairing it up with laser at the end of a session. If you’re a teacher/ parents who have been to classes and seen soft music pairing up with lights, now you understand it’s function. It’s a calming strategy towards the end of a very energetic music class! Some backgrounds: I have chosen a profession that embrace #neurodiversity and the more I learn the more I believe that EVERYONE including you and me could have different types of #sensoryneeds. You may be a #sensoryseeker or a #sensoryavoider. That understanding has led me to believe that there is No Bad Kids, but just kids whose sensory needs are not met. Only if our sensory needs are satisfied, then we reach an equilibrium, that’s when learning takes place. So I have decided to set up a light table at home and see what effects it has on the children. It was fun to observe the different ways of explorations my 1, 4 and 7 years old have. We used that towards the end of the day to wind down the day. To add more magic to it, I selected a playlist that I like to listen to 😁 cos it’s not always about the kids, but it’s good #selfcare for the parents too! 7/23/21 - Today, #AmoghBanagere had a stupendous time building “Photo Audio Infrared Detector” using @snapcircuits LIGHT kit! It was endearing to watch him gather the individual components, assembling the circuit using the instructional diagram and demo it by explaining its working mechanism! Designed for ages: 8 - 103 years (Can also be independently assembled by 5 year old intellectually gifted children) #snapcircuits #snapcircuitslight #snapcircuitsjr #stem #stemeducation #stemforkids #americanmensa #mensa #mensakids #gifted #giftedkids #giftededucation #toddler #toddlersofinstagram #toddlers #kids #kidsofinstagram #kidsactivities #learn #learning #learningthroughplay #education #homeschool #stemtoys #toys #gadgets #engineering @americanmensa https://www.instagram.com/p/CRsNh4GAM9E/?utm_medium=tumblr

Teaching Computational Thinking with Stories of Electricity
Kids loves drama. Don't fight it; embrace it. I recently developed this prototype project for elementary school students where they learn about electrical engineering through narrative. Using a fantastic kid-friendly circuit board called Snap Circuits, kids are encouraged to personify electricity and to embrace the journey it takes around the board. If you try it in your classroom, or riff ons other K-12 computers science ideas here, message me. I'd love to see.
Project
Stories of Electricity
Description
How electricity operates is an important part of computer science because computers, at their foundation, run on rapid pulses of electricity. The logic of electrical engineering is inseparable from the logic of computers. In this activity, students work with Snap Circuits in order to safely explore how electrical circuits operate. They will work independently and in groups to build circuits and to write “stories of electricity” that use descriptive narrative writing to explain just how electricity, like a character on an adventure, navigates the circuit, what it does at important junctions, and why.
Guiding Questions
Where does the electrical current start and end its journey? What does the electricity do each time the circuit board pieces change color?   When the circuit doesn’t work as expected, what are the possible reasons for that? What “trouble” might electricity be running into? Read the full article

Great STEM Gift Ideas with @elegoo_official @sphero @ozobot @snapcircuits
It’s the most wonderful time… of the year…. (ok, so my tune may be off a bit).  The holidays are here. Parents are scrambling to come up with gifts for their kids. So, what do you get them that will keep them interested, having fun, and… get this… learning at the same time?

Snap Circuits Battle: A Two-Hour Tournament to Learn As Much As We Can About How Circuits Work
You take a smart STEM toy like Snap Circuits. Mix it with some game theory. Add a group of pre-service teachers. What do you get? A two-hour tournament of inquiry, hands-on learning, and straight up fun. Here's how it goes.
Step 1
Set the rules. Something like this: Instructions: Each team will battle it out to learn as much as they can about how electrical circuits work AND make connections between the way they are learning and James Gee’s reading from last class on games and play-based learning. Teams will have equal amounts of time to complete each circuits challenge. Points are awarded as follows: Completing the working circuit in the time allotted (10 XP) Identifying what each part of the circuit does and how electricity flows through it (3 XP per factoid or principles of engineering with source cited) Making strong connections to specific lines and concepts from our James Gee reading (4 XP per connection, including quote, explanation, and page number) After three rounds, the team with the most XP earned will be declared the victors. (The music of AC/DC will be played throughout.)
Tumblr media
Step 2
Battle it out for three rounds, remembering that the real goal is to deepen players' understanding about how gaming and play-based frameworks create exceptional situations for learning. Use my Battle Log to keep track.
Step 3
Tally points and declare a victor.
Step 4
Step back and reflect on what was learned AND how we learned it. Want more about this project? Message me. ;) Read the full article
