#FantasyIndiesJuly- Family in your WIP Family is an ongoing theme in my Be Series (3rd image is the family tree in the back of book 1, Be). Henry's family is further explored in book 2, An Impossible Dream, and book 3, Where the Heart Is. As a beta reader pointed out for the MC of An Impossible Dream, Sare, family is a concept she would not know much about or understand. Throughout the book her and her friends develop a found family, as seen with this snippet of her and Maybell. After she has her son, too, there's more exploration of this, as seen in the second snippet. #SpilltheGreenTea- #Fairytales The five kingdoms in my Be series are rich with stories, to the point where I have plans for a companion fairytale companion to the overall series featuring stories discussed within the books. In Be, the first book, a couple Midgrim stories are discussed, including the origin of Midgrim as the Kingdom descended from shadows, and the origins of the curious apple trees. In An Impossible Dream, the second book, stories include the clay dolls from The West, The Boy Who Sailed to the Moon from the East, and the witch in the woods, AKA The Weaver of the World from the South. #SpilltheGreenTea- How do people get their names in your world? In Where the Heart Is, we learn more about both the Southern forest kingdom and the Eastern ocean kingdom, including the naming practices. Names for, at least, Southern royalty, often reflect status and/or have something to do with the fae, plants, etc. In the East, you match the first letter and borrow a couple other similar letters to create a new name, such as Henrick/Henry being named for Harris/Harry. #WriterFriendsChallenge- Story WIP Aesthetic! Where The Heart Is is Clary's story. This photo of the tea cup with the rosemary, ammonite earrings, acorn caps, and lace is part of the mood board I've made (& shared multiple times already) and fits both the character & the story to a T. In particular, it reflects that two kingdoms that make up her identity, the Southern forest and the Eastern shore! #FantasyIndiesJuly- Themes in my WIP! Day 11 for #SpilltheNovelTea & #FantasyIndiesJune is "#SnippetsSaturday" with lie or truth! In my WIP, An Impossible Dream, truth is another common theme in the story. The main character, Sare, is the queen of half-truths & technicalities. Her friend, Gracelynn, also has "a penchant for lying," as Hayworth puts it. It's another exploration of that ever-gray survival vs. morality. At the same time, there is so much about herself that Sare doesn't know and is left having to rely on stories she'd been told. There's a comfort to some of these stories, though, and "she'd like to think that, like most stories, somewhere in there lay a seed of truth." The prompt also made me think of this snippet from my first book, Society's Foundlings (available on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, etc, in my Etsy Shop, & ordered through your local library)! Day 4 & 5 of #themoonshadowandskychallenge is "#SnippetSaturday: MC's first line" and "#selfcaresunday!" I hadn't realized that the MC doesn't actually speak until about page 5 or 6. Here is the very first thing she actually says. Though, there is a lot of thinking before this. It also just captures her character so perfectly, I might add! As for self-care this entire weekend... Day 4 & 5 of #SpilltheNovelTea is "#SnippetsSaturday: Villain's POV" and "How do you make time for writing!" Here's a snippet from my WIP, An Impossible Dream, not written from the villain's POV but kind of showcases what he's thinking. As for making time to write, I don't do well with a schedule and I try to write when inspiration strikes. If I don't have my notebook on hand, I almost always have my phone (and there's an obscene amount of notes on my phone)! Here's a little tip if you use the OneNote app on your phone.
