Top 10 male characters in fiction
 I was tagged by @letusmeetagain. Thanks! :)
- The Ninth Doctor (Doctor Who - Russell T. Davies)
Tumblr media
His tenure as the Doctor might have been short but Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor is one of my favourite characters of all time. There is such range and depth to his emotions, a repressed anger coupled with the unrelenting fear of the same mistakes being repeated again... but also a softer, more mischevious side, hungry for more discoveries. He is both ancient and also so terribly human.
- Yuki Soma (Fruits Basket - Natsuki Takaya)
Tumblr media
Yuki is a character who slowly but steadily grew on me. I don’t think I truly understood him when I read Furuba as a young teen for the first time. But to see his struggles, the way he grew into himself and faced the future as a young adult with the help of Tohru, some of his relatives and the friends he makes along the way... made him incredibly endearing. Of all the characters in this list, he’s the one I relate to the most.
- Lee Everett (The Walking Dead Game - Telltale Games, lead writers: Sean Vanaman, Jake Rodkin)
Tumblr media
The trick with Lee is that since he’s the main playable character of this series, his personality can change quite a bit according to the player’s choices, but he’s always well-rounded. My Lee always tried to stay as diplomatic as he could and understand all sides, but also accepted to use violence when needed. His attachment to little Clem and the depths he goes to to protect her amaze me still. I still have goosebumps thinking about the cliffhangers of episodes 4 and 5...
- William Parry (His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman)
Tumblr media
(Left picture is his portrayal by Amir Wilson in the BBC series, which I haven’t watched. Right is fanart by @dreamingpartone: since I have seen their art of Will I’ve never been able to imagine him with another appearance)
Will... ugh, I love him so much. A young teen forced by life’s circumstances to behave like an adult. His strength of mind has been an inspiration to me. At the same time, I kept wishing he could be relieved of the burden he had to carry. I was as devastated as he was by the end of the series, and if Pullman actually gave us the little sequel he promised so I could see him again as an adult, I would die happily.
- Eren Jäger (Shingeki no Kyojin - Hajime Isayama)
Tumblr media
The most recent addition to a list of old faves. I started reading SnK in 2020, and Eren made quite an impression on me. The way he’s been written, as a character who doesn’t change in his core but whose methods and ways of seeing the world around him evolve (while the mysteries of the plot unravel both for the characters and the readers) is just masterful. There are so many layers and complexities to Eren, and I hope he gets the satisfying ending a character of this calibre deserves.
- Subaru Sumeragi (Tokyo Babylon / X/1999 - CLAMP)
Tumblr media
Sigh... Subaru is probably the OG “son” character for me, and the kindest character in this list. I wish I could protect him from all the terrible things he had to go through. CLAMP really outdid themselves with his portrayal throughout Tokyo Babylon and X/1999, and even if his story is never finished, I think his character arc met a logical ending already. That said, I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him again if they ever decided to finish X one day.
- Prince Zuko (Avatar The Last Airbender - Lead writer: Aaron Ehasz)
Tumblr media
By writing this list I realise I really have a type lmao. Anyway, Zuko truly got the golden treatment as far as redemption arcs go. The way he broke the cycle of abuse and hatred he had been subjected to to fight against his fears and for a better future is beautiful. Dante Basco also did an amazing job at making him feel unique and relatable.
- Joe Yabuki (Ashita no Joe - Tetsuya Chiba/Asao Takamori)
Tumblr media
Joe and Eren could probably compete for the title of best shonen anti-hero out there x) Joe isn’t... likeable, really. He has a disdain for rules and morality and doesn’t really fight for anything, except the pleasure of fighting itself. He’s impredictable but that’s exactly what makes him a delight to follow as a reader. His story might be tragic in nature, but I don’t think there’s a single page of this manga that should be changed as far as Joe’s portrayal goes.
- Hamlet (Hamlet - William Shakespeare)
Tumblr media
(Pictured: David Tennant’s interpretation) Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece... What is there to say that hasn’t already been said, really?
- Raymond Holt (Brooklyn 99 - Dan Goor/Michael Schur)
Tumblr media
Andre Braugher combines gravitas and humour perfectly, and elevates every character he interacts with. His portrayal of Ray Holt as an openly gay, black police captain who climbed the ladder against all odds to become a sort of father figure to his coworkers is just delightful.
- Royce Bracket (Transistor - Supergiant Games, lead writer: Greg Kasavin)
Tumblr media
I don’t know if Royce really is deserving to be on list, to be quite honest. I think the other members of the “villainous” Camerata, especially Asher and Sybil, are as deserving as him of the honour (well, Sybil is a woman, but still), but he’s such an intriguing character and unusual “boss”. The way he piles mistakes upon mistakes but seeks to understand everything as a mathematician still, is quite fascinating. Amazing voice actor as well.
Honourable mentions: Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist), Gesicht (Pluto), Iroh (Avatar), Reiner Braun, Armin Arlert, Zeke Jäger (Shingeki no Kyojin), Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle), Zagreus, Hades (Hades), Julius Reini (Asher, Tell a Demon), and probably a multitude of others who slipped my mind along the way.
I don’t really know who to tag, so anybody who wants to do this, please feel free!

Why do you don't post my hero acadamia drawings and posts ? I liked them
Aw that’s sweet ! I’m glad uu liked them :’)
And I guess I just…. It’s not I dislike bnha but for me it’s a slice of life with typic shounen actions thrown in it. It’s funny and stuff and sometimes very emotional (I had goosegumps at the AFO/OFA fight and at Endeavor’s one) but like,,,
After you get the festival shit and you see them plays eletric guitar. woaw. so impressive i’m screaming it’s crazy i love that what a plot twist and compelling story…..
I think it’s the lack of real plot that make me roll my eyes lmao The manga is about Izuku becoming Number 1 and that’s all. Like. What’s the plot ? You can see Hirokoshi is a bit improvising as he draws it and it’s fine if you like that kind of story !! I’m not saying ti’s shit or that nobody should love it !! I still read the manga but it’s just not the same. I’m really not interested in it anymore cuz I know i could skip an arc and still understand what’s going on.
Personally I LOVE story who’ve been thought from the begining to the end, with really neat plot and amazing characters !! My fav anime/manga are FMAB, Erased, Mob Psycho and ofc SNk. All of them follow the story from point A to point B and it’s amazing. They are perfectly crafted story with plot twists and deep characters and I could watch them over and over ! Mob Psycho is sure set in our the modern world but it doesn’t take away the fun story and more than fantastic and original animation :D
Anyways, I’m not gonna diss bnha for years and paragraphs ahah Just knows I kind of moved on and I’m not really inspired by it anymore but I could still draw bnha fanart x) Who knows ?

Happy SnK Positivity Week! I read the prompts over again and just realized a suggestion for Content Creator Appreciation Day was to write a fanfic for a fanart you enjoyed and I really liked the art that @attack-on-social-skills drew for a YOI AU created with @tsuki-no-ura 💕 I hope this is okay 🙏💖
The Dance of the Sexy Pork Cutlet Bowl
Springles. Yuri on Ice AU.
2728 words.
“So,” he says, a wide grin on his face. It’s too wide, too bright, too expectant. “What do you have for me?”
Nothing. She has absolutely nothing for him, but it’s not like she can say this to her idol. Her idol, Connie Springer, the most talked about figure skater in the world, who is standing right in front of her and asking her to perform a short program for her. He should be in Russia practicing his quad lutzs and quad loops, not standing here and waiting for him to slip and fall on the ice right in front of him. So why is he here?
She should be over the moon that she finally gets to meet her idol after so many years of watching him on screen and behind the scenes during skating competitions because she didn’t have the courage to talk to him. She should be marveling at how unexpectedly tall he is – much taller than he looked on television – and how gray his hair is for someone as young as himself. She should be wondering if it’s naturally gray or if he’s dyed it that color. She should be gushing about how much she loves his work, his dedication, his talent, not standing in front of him and stammering because she can hardly string two words together in front of him.
There’s a giggle in the corner of the ice rink and Sasha turns to glare at the little kids hanging out, watching the world-famous ice skater hanging out in the very same place that they practice. As expected, there is a phone amongst them and they elbow each other, fighting over who should hold it as they record Connie Springer and rack up more likes on their YouTube page. How did seven-year-olds have YouTube pages now? Didn’t they have age limits to those things?
Sasha sighs.
That’s what started it all. A video recorded by those little troublemakers while she was just fooling around in the rink after returning home from a competition where she failed to place yet again. It was just practice. She had just put on Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. It’s  “Infernal Dance Of All Of Kaschei’s Subjects,” the same movement that Connie Springer had skated to when he won his first Grand Prix medal. Some people believe that his last Olympic performance was his best, but his performance at the Grand Prix back when he was still new is still one of Sasha’s favorites.
She was just standing in the middle of the rink, her eyes closed as she soaked in the magnificent horns and drums of the Stravinsky. The plan was just to practice her toe flips, her spins, her jumps, but she was caught up in the music, reimagining that performance she had watched on the television years ago. It was what had really sold her into the world of ice skating. Before she was just fooling around. After watching Connie Springer, she wanted to really skate, to dance on the ice like he did.
Before she knew it, she was envisioning what it was like to be like him, to move so elegantly across the ice. She began to glide across the ice, mimicking the graceful movements of his arms that she had seen so long ago. She had watched the video clip so many times after that that she had practically memorized the choreography. Sasha knows every spin he did as the music swelled, knows when he punctuates each phrase with the perfect jump, and remembers all the intricate footwork to his step sequences. And she does it all one by one, probably not as perfectly as him – she can’t do the same jumps he can and she’s not nearly as graceful as he is - but it feels thrilling to skate the steps he did because it gives her a feeling of what it feels like to be him.
So this is what it must feel like to be magnificent, she thinks when the piece finally comes to an end, breathing heavily.
Unfortunately, other people didn’t think it wasn’t close to magnificent. Reiner, her friend whose parents owned the rink, had his little and their friends come over often for skating lessons. Sasha had always known the kids were addicted to technology and the various social media apps that have become popular over the years, but she never thought they would feel the need to capture her on camera and post a video of her dancing to Firebird Suite on YouTube. She didn’t even know about it until her dad barged in her room, telling her that her skating abilities had improved so much since she was a little kid.
She was mortified, but Reiner only laughed when she came running to him. It was giving her recognition, and isn’t that what she wanted? It was, but not like this. She didn’t want people comparing her to Connie Springer or accusing her of wanting to be like him when she could never be on his level. She didn’t want people giving her pity praise, telling her that her technique is good and that in time she would become even better than she already was. And she most certainly did not want Connie Springer to fly all the way over from Russia and ask her to skate for him after watching the video.
He doesn’t seem angry at her, which is what she’s most grateful for, but she can’t say that she’s exactly happy he’s here either. There are some idols that get incredibly angry if they see a fan mimic them, screaming about how originality is dead and that the younger generation will never live up to the old stars. Connie doesn’t seem like that at all though. He looks like he genuinely wants to watch her skate for him up close and personal. It’s just that it’s too up close and personal for her.
“Well, you see,” Sasha mumbles. She twirls a lock of her hair nervously around her finger. “I don’t really…have anything. I was planning on taking a break from this season of skating, you know. I don’t have anything choreographed and my programs from last season…they weren’t any good.”
He looks so surprised when she says that. “Really? But I thought they were impressive,” he says. His eyebrows are knitted in confusion.  “But what about that last one you did? The one in the video, I mean. It was magnificent. Do you think you could skate that one just a little bit? It seems like you know it quite well.”
Sasha’s sure that he’s mocking her now. He says it as if she’s the one who originated the program, the one who had skated it first, but he must know that he was the one to do that. It was his first gold Grand Prix performance, how can he not?
She’s about to open her mouth to refuse him when she hears another giggle where the children are. Unable to deal with both the children and her figure skating hero, she shoots a glare at Gabi and her friends and growls, “Scram!”
The children all scream and scamper away, Falco nearly dropping the phone. The door slams shut behind them, but even then, Sasha only feels a little calmer.
“Sorry,” Sasha mumbles. She looks down at her skates, wondering why she had even bothered to put them on. “They just…like to hang around here and watch me skate a lot.”
“No worries,” Connie says cheerfully. “I like kids. If they’re making you too nervous, though, maybe we could talk to them later.”
She doesn’t want there to be a later. She wants this to be over now, but it seems like he won’t leave until he’s seen her skate once.
Fumbling with her phone, she finds Firebird Suite and hands it her idol. When he sees the piece she’s chosen, he gives her an excited grin.
Right from the start, she knows it’s a failure. She can hardly hear the music over the thumping of her heartbeat. She’s off by a beat, two beats, an entire bar of music. Her movements are unsure, clumsy rather than graceful. Instead of gliding over the ice, her skates scrap across them. She’s not dancing the way she should be; her spins are all over the place, her jumps sloppy, and her step sequences are nervous stomps across the ice. She should have never put on her skates. She should have never put on this song. She should have never thought she could skate the way he could – even for a little bit – because it’s clear now that that will never happen.
She doesn’t even notice that she’s tripped over herself until she hits the ice. It’s a hard and fast fall, one she doesn’t feel until she stumbles up. She rubs at her cheek, numb from the ice and sure to turn purple the very next day. It doesn’t really hurt though. It just feels cold.
“Hey, are you okay?” a voice asks quietly. When she looks up, Connie is there with a hand outstretched and a worried look on his face.
“Yeah, I just,” Sasha mumbles, swallowing hard. Damn, she really wishes he weren’t here. She feels how tender her cheek is again, wincing at the pain after touching it so lightly. She hadn’t fallen like that since she was a kid. “I guess it’s not really my day.”
Connie shrugs, helping her up. “Bad days are more common than you think. I’ve had my own fair share of those.”
“Sure,” she says bitterly. “I’m sure you have.”
“It’s true,” he says, eyebrows raised. “Some days are so bad that I just feel like quitting, you know. But I never have.”
“Why not?”
He blinks. “Why not what?”
“Well, why haven’t you quit?” she asks him.
“Oh! Huh. I guess because I have things I like. Things that inspire me to skate more,” Connie says, shrugging. He tilts his head, thinking of examples. “My parents, you know. The people in the village I was brought up in. They’ve never had someone like me representing them before, so I guess I’m kind of a big deal. And the kids I meet, the ones that say they want to skate just like me.”
For a guy that’s won numerous world championships, he’s pretty humble. It makes Sasha like him even more, but it also makes her even more upset that he’s seen her slip and fall. Years of skating practice and she can’t even prove that she’s capable of skating better than a child. He must be so disappointed that he’s come all this way here only to be let down.
“What about you?” he asks.
“What about me what?”
“What did you think about when you were skating in that video?” he asks.
“Absolutely nothing,” she lies immediately. She was thinking of him, how graceful and magnificent he was, but she can’t admit that to his face. That’s too embarrassing and she’s already so flustered already. “My body just moved on its own. You know how it is sometimes.”
“Is that so? I guess that happens sometimes,” he says, laughing. She’s not sure that he believes her entirely, but he doesn’t press on. “Well, next time you skate, maybe think of something that inspires you or motivates you. Don’t think about people watching. I find that only makes you nervous.”
“Right,” Sasha says quietly. She reaches for her phone which Connie holds out to her in an outstretched hand, but she hesitates. Firebird Suite is still on her phone and she could easily just switch her phone off, pocket it, and be on her merry way. Then he could go back to Russia and forget all about her, but it seems like such a shame. He came all the way to see her and all she gave him was an embarrassingly terribly performance. He didn’t even laugh at her once, only smiled and given her this advice, and she’s not sure she’s ready to let him leave like this. This isn’t the way she wants him to remember her if he remembers her at all.
So she presses “play,” skating to the center of the rink once more as she listens to the sound of horns blare from her phone. She chances another glance at Connie to gauge his expression – confused, elated, surprised. Good. She’ll surprise him even more by the end of this piece.
Think of something that inspires you.
Katsudon. Her mind immediately goes to katsudon, her go-to comfort food once she comes home from a competition. She likes to sit in the Japanese restaurant at the corner of the street, soak in the quiet and comforting atmosphere as she sits and waits for her pork cutlet rice bowl. She doesn’t even have to ask for it. She just sits and the chef immediately begins making it in the kitchen, the dish appearing before her.
As the music begins again, she lifts her arms as if to mimic the warm and inviting atmosphere that her favorite dish brings, and she begins. Although it’s the same choreography that she had done in the video, the same movements that Connie had used in his stunning Grand Prix performance, it’s not the same either. Those movements were far more fluid, graceful. Now, she moves with more strength and power. It is not the grace of the firebird that she dances with, but its energy and vigor because it is the same with katsudon.
She twirls as she thinks about the captivating aroma of the delicious dish, how it envelops her right as the pork cutlet begins to fry in the pan. She jumps as she imagines the seductive pork cutlets, juicy and full of flavor from the fried crust. She thinks of the absolute satisfaction of finishing the entire dish – the fresh scallions used for garnish, the mouth-watery eggs cooked in a sweet and salty broth, the savory and tender meat of the pork cutlet underneath its crispy fried crust, and the fluffy white rice underneath – and feels the same satisfaction when she finishes the program, arms extended towards Connie who is clapping enthusiastically as if she’s won a gold medal already.
“Did you see that? It was incredible!” Sasha asks him excitedly, skating towards him recklessly and jumping into his arms.
“I did! I saw the whole thing and you were magnificent,” he laughs, twirling her about.
Magnificent. The word people use to describe him on the ice, the word that pops into her head whenever she thinks of him, and now the word he chooses to describe her skate.
It takes her a second to realize that she’s still holding onto him and she lets go immediately, thinking it must be strange for her to hug him when she’s only just barely met him, but Connie doesn’t look as if he’s bothered by it.
“It really worked, you know,” she says, her cheeks flushed from hearing the compliment he had given her earlier. “I was skating to katsudon.”
“Katsudon?” Connie repeats. He doesn’t laugh at her, but there’s an amused smile on his face. “That’s that pork dish, right? The pork cutlet bowl?”
“Yeah,” Sasha mumbles, feeling a little silly now. It’s not often that she feels self-conscious, but she feels that way now. It would help if he stopped smiling at her so much.
He has a charming smile. That’s what judges and competitors always say. No matter how many years pass, his smile remains boyish and charming. In the end, that smile he flashes at the crowd is what ultimately makes people fall in love with him and his programs. Sasha thought it was just something they said, an embellishment that created in order to play him up whenever he was on the screen, but she understands what they mean now that she’s able to see his smile up close.
“What is it?” Sasha asks nervously, tugging at a lock of her hair that has fallen out of her ponytail. He’s been staring at her for quite some time now.
“Nothing,” Connie says, grin growing wider. “It’s just that I’ve never seen a pork cutlet bowl that was so…alluring.”
Her face flushes again but for a different reason this time. She’s probably a brilliant red now, bright as a firebird.

December’s PSA - Merry Christmas for a Milestone!
Tumblr media
Can you believe SnK’s first three-digit chapter is out in a few days?
We’ve gone that far. Chapter 100 is probably a milestone in SnK just for that. And last chapter offered so much tension after Willy’s brutal revelation that the world’s common enemy was none other than Eren Yeager! What’s going to happen from this point onwards? Full massacre? Marley heroes coming to save the day?
Considering how Willy ratted Eren badly, the latter has every reason to transform now. His position implies he’s targetting the Tybur representative, further implying we may get to see that sweet Warhammer Titan in action. I hope he’s going to be as magnificent as he was on stage.
Things are also going bad for Reiner, but there’s a chance he and Falco might make it away in a rush, using one second of diversion. I doubt Reiner’s going to die now, but things aren’t looking too good for Falco... or anybody onstage for that matter. We’ll also know the deal with the trapdoor guy, Pieck and Porco’s fates and where Zeke is led.
Hyped for the showdown already, lads and ladettes?
Other news: the 3rd official poll’s results will be out soon! Isayama planned to draw an illustration of the top 3 and you can bet Levi’s going to be in it. I’m really excited to get the results and do a further comparison with last poll.
We’ll also get vol. 24 in Japan, alongside the release of the first OVA of Lost Girls, starring Annie and her days in the MP. That should make a good appetizer in the meantime, while the S2 recap movie is coming in January. There’s still two OVAs to go, and then S3.
And as a post-Christmas surprise, we might get early spoilers of chapter 101. We can make it double this month... to end up with nothing till February’s spoiler week. But at least this month will be active?
Don’t mind the grey slashes: I’ll be away for Christmas break and unfortunately, there’s a chance I’ll miss potential spoilers from chapter 101. Or at least, won’t have the luxury to comment on them. Hope you’ll understand.
As a reminder, I’ll keep the #snk_spoilers and #snk_100 as spoiler tags, as usual. Same thing for potential SnK 101 spoilers (#snk_101).
Here’s the list of the birthdays of this month!
1st: Connie’s mother (Mrs. Springer)
6th: Petra Ral
7th: Rico Brzenska
15th: Googles
18th: Moses Braun (unironically not related to Reiner)
20th: Samuel Linke-Jackson
21st (Winter Solstice): Theo Magath
23rd: Unnamed inventor killed by the MP
25th (Christmas): Levi Ackerman
26th: Dirk (SC member)
27th: Marlene
28th: Phil
30th: Bertolt Hoover
31st (New Year’s Eve): Uri Reiss
WIT’s even organizing a Levi event (Memorial Fair) in tribute of his birthday. Between us I’m looking forward for the sweets fanarts for Bertolt’s birthday.
November’s PSA
October’s PSA
September’s PSA
August’s PSA
July’s PSA
June’s PSA
May’s PSA
April’s PSA
March’s PSA
February’s PSA

Anon said:Honestly I love your ocs so much! I like seeing your fanart because you really flesh out characters we don't get enough development of, but I really love seeing your ocs. I can tell you love them and enjoy drawing them just by looking at it, and that makes me love them even more! You're a wonderful artist!
SOB thank you!!!!! holy heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;O; I can’t believe how much love my kids get hahaha I’m so so grateful aaahhhh!!!!
Anon said:Okay, so I was just going to tell you how great your comic is (and it is), but I just read your last ask to that anon, and I'm sorry, but deku didn't do nothing to gain his quirk? Like, what? He risked his life and almost killed himself trying to say his exfriend/then bully? That isn't just "being nice"? He didn't know all Might would save him? He risked his life even though he was powerless just to help another person? He earned the quirk, all Might said so in the second episode, like, what?
Since you don’t seem to want a polite and civil exchange of opinions on this, and are actually being incredibly rude here (whether you meant for it or not, I don’t know) I hope you won’t mind me keeping this as short as I can. All Might worked in the beginning of the bnha manga as a textbook definition of a deus ex machina, came around, solved an otherwise unsolvable plot point out of the blue bending the laws that had just been established for that universe, and Deku literally (literally) didn’t have to go through any conscious trial, soul-search or any other self-aware journey with the intention of fixing his own problem. All he did was to be heroic and to be quirkless, which for him are circumstances since those are innate traits of his character. And the only singular thing he has is that he’s quirkless, his heroic personality is shared by all of UA (Mina acted in the exact same way in Kirishima’s backstory as he did to save Bakugou, didn’t get any cool op powers out of it)
All Might was supposed to give OfA to Mirio, the literal most heroic character in bnha, a boy who had been working his ass off to become a proper hero since he was a child, but instead he found a quirkless kid and decided that he deserved a chance to become a hero too. I’m not saying that’s not true, or that Deku didn’t deserve it. I’m saying that he didn’t actively or consciously do anything to gain that power. He simply acted in a way true to his self, and that was it.
I’m gonna have to make present to you that the next time I get an ask with that tone in my inbox I’m blocking you without answering. I’m not here to be called an idiot by the first random stranger I find online, if you want a conversation with me all I’m asking is for you to be polite, that’s not too much at all in my opinion.
Anon said:Your last BakuShima comic was so cute!!! AAAAA!! 💖
Thank you!!! I’m super happy you liked it!!!!!! :O
Anon said:I love you. So much right now. Can I give you a virtual hug because I swear
I dunno what I did to deserve this but SURE *holds u back*
Anon said:do you think you'd ever sell any minajirou merch? (maybe like the one with the flower background) because if you do i would buy 20 (not literally but,, i think you get the point) Sorry if this sounds annoying or anything! im just curious
Not annoying at all!!! If I remember right the one I posted was a bit small tho, I’ll have to see if I can work with the size in a way that would fit the default redbubble dimensions... if I can’t I’ll be sure to make the next one big enough to fit, tho!!!! And thank you for wanting to buy my stuff!!!!! :O
Anon said:I'M NOT THAT ANON BUT I CAN HELP W MOMOJIROUS & yes we totally agree they're fuckin gay and canon there's no doubts here. SO anyway I at least see them liking in each other exactly what you said- they have what the other lacks (or thinks they do), and still find the other to understand them and be interested in them in every sense of the word, also tol and beauty and smol and cute are def the first thoughts about each other, damn maybe I should have thought about word limit I need more space
Awwww anon I thank you for trying to explain to me why they work!!! But that’s not the problem I have with it at all haha I understand the ship on a superficial level perfectly, that’s why I ship it! I just can’t seem to find myself in the relationship anywhere, so empathizing with it comes harder than it does when it’s MinaJirou haha
Anon said:you draw kirishima's eyes so pretty I can't look away from them
THANK YOU Kirishima’s eyes are super pretty in canon, I’m so so happy I can portray that in my style well enough!!!!! :O
Anon said:Ok, sorry for going through ur hq!! tag sjeow, oh gosh I love ur art and ur art style and I love the way I draw the boys !!!! Aaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! Thank u for blessing my night!!!! I hope something makes ur day the way going through ur art *cough* again *cough* made my day!!! (Also a question: what's ur second fave ship from hq!! after bokuroo?? )
MATSUHANA :O and thank you so so so so much for liking my stuff!!!!!!! I hope you’re having a great day today too, anon!!!
Anon said:I love you Fran, but I completely disagree with what you told the last anon about the idea behind bnha. You had me with the positivity concept, and I would also love it if eri could fix mirio and nighteye, but the rest of that was just so far off to me; and probably for many other fans in this community. Like, first, a story does not have to be the level of snk or dgray man to have bad things happen. That is how all story telling has been since the beginning of time.
A good narrative story is never straight sunshine and happiness throughout, even if it doesn't involve death. People don't just enjoy the bad things that happen in a story because it's realistic or because it's sad, they enjoy it because that is how a story and it's characters grow. They make mistakes and learn from them; these moments help the characters change and pushes them forward through every new obstacle.
It helps drive them and gives their stories/actions/ideals meaning and gives the audience a reason to care. And that is where I wonder if we are even reading the same story, because this concept is shown throughout the entirety of bnha. It is no where near the "positive-to-a-naive-point" you seem to believe it is. The story starts off with a weak, defenseless deku being beaten by his once best friend?
Like, I really don't want to sound condescending, but I don't understand how you could come to this conclusion. Bakugou has an inferiority complex from hell and suffers constantly from his own inner turmoil, todoroki has an an abusive father with a horrid childhood, iida's brother/idol was paralyzed and almost killed, shigaraki unknowingly killed his parents as a child, toshinori may still be alive, but all might (the hero) is gone to the world forever,
eri was used and experimented on HER ENTIRE LIFE, believing she was a disease to the world and could only cause suffering. I could go on for pages about the suffering these characters have ALREADY gone through- but that is okay, because the story is better for it. Because we as an audience wouldn't have cared nearly as much for deku's gain of one-for-all, if it wasn't for the trials and turmoil he faced his whole life living as a quirkless child;
Bnha is a positive story, but it does not rely solely on positivity to get by. It is a story about determination; to push back against adversity, to go on even in the face of the unknown or impossible; even if fate itself is against you. It's about climbing your mountains and beyond that, dare I say, beyond plus ultra. It's is not trying to adhere to its genre, it's is trying to be everything the genre could be and more, and as succeeded thus far.
Which is why I can understand the disappointment from the last anon, because solving everything through friendship and "hand holding" has become a norm in this genre specifically- and bnha is anything but quick and easy ways out.
Sorry if this is long, and I really hope you don't take this as an attack against you or your opinion. If that is all bnha is to you, and if that is how you perceive the show, who am I to say you are wrong. But I hope you understand what I have said at least, because you still are a huge inspiration to me as an artist and in this community. Hope the rest of your day goes alright.
Alright, first off, if you don’t want to come off as condescending try and maybe don’t be condescending. I’m nearly sure you didn’t do this consciously, considering how you ended the rant, but going “are we even reading the same story” when you supposedly want a civil exchange of opinions is the worst thing you could do ever. You pretty much said “I don’t wanna disregard your opinion but here is a list of reason why you’re wrong and I’m right”, please next time you mean to keep it civil try and avoid that, because that sounds just as bad as you’d assume.
Second, I thank you for the recap of all the tragic backstories bnha gave us, but my answer was about conclusions to arcs, not beginnings. I literally never once said that bnha is a happy-go-lucky story from start to end, I only said it made an habit of reaching for the best possible conclusion it could ever go for by the end of every arc up until now.
“The story starts off with a weak, defenseless deku being beaten by his once best friend”, sure (aside from the “once best friend”, Deku and Bakugou were never friends to begin with, please do reread the second Kacchan vs Deku for Bakugou’s view on their relationship) that’s how the story starts, and it ends with Deku with the strongest quirk on the planet, mentored by his childhood hero, with a civil and friendly rivalry with his childhood bully, on his way to become the number one hero, happy and loved and respected. “”Bakugou has an inferiority complex from hell and suffers constantly from his own inner turmoil” again, sure, and he could have given in to it and become a villain or let his terrible personality just become worse and worse, every single bad thing happened to him could have made him closer to a bad guy or given him good reasons to go against the heroes, and instead he’s working to become better, is loved and cherished, has friends that will build him up and care for him and risk their lives for him, and is actually in a way healthier place than he was in the beginning. “Todoroki has an an abusive father with a horrid childhood” SURE and now he’s got his mother back, he’s learnt to be the bigger person and put distance between himself and his father to instead use him to reach his own goals, is happy and has friends and, again, he’s supported and loved and is in a way happier place than he was in the beginning. “Toshinori may still be alive, but all might (the hero) is gone to the world forever” yes, and in any other manga the reveal would have brought a whole damn lot of drama and people calling him a fraud and turning against him, but instead that scene is the most heartwarming one in the whole manga, the whole world supporting and loving him and yelling his name to cheer him on
I could go on, but I think I made it pretty clear? Every single arc, be it a character arc or a story arc, starts tragic to end up with the most positive outcome you can have for it. There isn’t one arc that has had a tragic conclusion yet. So is it really that weird for me to think it’s believable and not surprising at all that Eri’s story, for however tragic it might have started as, could also have a happy ending? That this manga never tried to present itself as one in which things can and will turn out for the worse?
I’m not even sure exactly what your incredibly long ask was about, man. What were you trying to prove to me? Which part of the answer I gave were you trying to disprove? You just went on about how sad everyone was at the beginning of the manga as if that proved somehow that Horikoshi isn’t actively working to give everyone the happiest future they could have.
A recap of my answer is: “I personally don’t mind Eri having a fix-it quirk because it fits well in Nighteye’s plot and falls perfectly in line with how every other arc has turned out for the best up until now”
And you came at me with an eight asks long rant that can be summed up in “you’re wrong because people in the beginning of the story were sad”
Listen. I’m always open to conversations about different opinions and takes on a story. But, again, I’m gonna need you to be polite about it and open to an equal exchange. Simply going at the end “I hope you won’t feel attacked” and “have a nice day” isn’t enough if for the rest of the rant you talked to me as if you were assuming I’m an idiot. And I’m actually gonna need you to properly read my answers before trying to follow up with them, next time. Please. I don’t have the time to rephrase my answers sixty times just because people keep answering without actually reading them.
