So excited to share my collab with @cutestkilla for @carryon-reverse-bang! I was bouncing off the walls hoping I would be the one to get this concept, and it has been an absolute joy to work on!

I’m about to click Baz’s email when I hesitate. What if it’s a virus? Baz would send me a virus. He would disappear for weeks just to get me messed up and then send me magickal malware that will explode out of my laptop and level Mummers. That’s exactly something he would do, because he’d know. He’d know that even if the bloody subject line was “This Is A Virus,” I couldn’t resist. I would open it. I open it. - The Humdrum can’t get what he needs when Simon is too distracted by Baz’s disappearance to go off. He has to find a new way to get to him, and if Baz is the only thing that can hold Simon’s attention, well, the Humdrum can work with that. Probably.

Not only are you amazingly talented in every conceivable way, but you're just one of the coolest, smartest, most thoughtful people I know. So, I'm writing this story for you. There's a certain podcast that holds a special place in your heart. And my gift to you is this story about it (or something a whole lot like it) holding a special place in Simon's and Baz's hearts too.

Six Sentence Sunday

Yes, 2023 is drawing to a close. Yes, I have been lurking for (I think) months at this point. Yes, I have been writing. Thank you so much to everyone who has been tagging me in recent weeks/months, I'm so sorry I haven't been interacting as much with you all as I have in the past. In the last few months I just haven't had the social battery to do much more than just lurk in comments sections, and sometimes not even that (autistic burnout is not fun, can confirm, 0/10, do not recommend).

But I'm back, and here's hoping 2024 is a good year, and one that's productive where writing is concerned! 2023 was a pretty good year for me; I published my first fic (which was also the first bit of writing I've properly published anywhere!), and I sent off my first query for ASR! To a proper literary agent! Like ... WHAT?! I still can't believe it!

As for the end of this year, let's get one last hurrah in for the year of 2023 with the final WIPsday of the year. Chapter 11 of Trails is coming, it just needs to be edited. Here's an unedited snippet of the chaos you have to look forward to.

“When I tell you to, run like fuck,” Fiona tells us, clicking the hammer back on her revolver.  “How many more rounds have you got?” Penny asks. “Enough to take down half the idiots aboard this ship.” Fiona takes up a position on one side of the hatch, her finger on the trigger guard. As she moves I hear the tell tale clink of a box of rounds, and see the outline of it in her trouser pocket for the first time. “Fiona,” I caution. “Maybe we should try to do this quietly.” “No chance of that, boyo. I’m killing as many of these fuckers as I can before we go overboard.” “Fiona,” I try again, but she isn’t listening. “The lifeboat is on the right side,” Penny whispers to us, eyeing Fiona out of the corner of her eye. We’ll lower you into it, Baz, then follow.” I guess I don’t have much of a say in this, as Snow is literally the only reason I’m still standing right now. I nod, and Penny creeps up the stairs behind Fiona, who does so about as well as a bull in a china shop. She storms out onto the deck and I’m actually surprised by how long it takes for bullets to start flying. There’s a solid fifteen seconds or so, which allows Bunce to make it up the stairs and gesture for us to follow, before an alarm is raised and Fiona does what she does best: cause chaos.

This hiatus with Trails wasn't planned, but work and general holiday madness got in the way of the tentative schedule my beta's and I had. New Year, fresh start, once more into the fray, as they say. I hope you can join us for this fics future shenanigans.

Fan Fic Fuck it Friday

All the f's because I'm kind of procrastinating massively rn I'm having such a lovely time taking part in CORB this year and I'm sooo excited to see what @larkral and @scribble-tier write based on my silly pics. In the meantime, the discord chat keeps giving me so many ideas for cute things I could write, if only I had the time!! So far I have: ✨ Wild dragon!Simon leaving offerings of dead things on Baz's door step like cats do for their owners. Does he think Baz is incapable of feeding himself, or does he just adore him and doesn't know how to show it? Does Baz know who the dragon is, or that there's a dragon at all??

✨ Baz loves marmite, Simon thinks its the worst thing since the mage. Baz likes rhubarb, Simon has never tried it. He doesn't know what a parsnip is. Maybe Baz is a chef in this one.

✨ Simon learning to knit- badly. Penny tries to teach him but has no patience for it as she's only ever knitted with magic. Baz asks Simon why he is leaving bits of wool around the house and Simon shows him the dreadful attempt at a scarf he was trying to make as a birthday gift for Baz. Turns out Baz is a master of knitting- Fiona taught him in a soft moment, having taught herself when she learned her sister was pregnant with Baz.

I might need to write the last one when winter sets in, to give my brain something cosy and warm to play with :3

We’re running a podfic festival called Caught on Tape for the Carry On Fandom! Any ship, any length, any experience level!

What is it?

A fest to encourage members of the CO fandom to try their hand at podficcing, and to get us more excellent podfic content.

Okay cool, but what’s a podfic?

Podfic is an audio recording of fanfic, read aloud by a fan (or several). The term is also used as a verb; someone may ask to podfic someone else's story, or spend an afternoon podficcing. Podfic is also known as audiofic. (Thanks Fanlore!)

When is it happening?

Podfics will be posting from October 29th to November 11th, 2023. Sign-ups for authors to give explicit permission for their fics to be made into podfics will open soon, and stay open until August 31st. Podfic creator signups will open September 1st and run to September 15th. A detailed schedule will follow shortly!

Who can participate?

Everyone! No matter your experience level or your recording setup, we want you! Watch this blog for helpful tips on podfic production. Detailed fest rules coming soon!

What rating can the podfic be?

Any rating may be created. We simply ask that no minors create podfics for M-/E-rated fics.

Which fics can be podficced?

Any fic, as long as the author has given permission. This permission can be given three different ways: (1) the authors will be given a chance to give permission for specifc fics of theirs in a list we’ll be maintaining (more details to come); (2) the authors can provide blanket permission on their AO3 profile or Tumblr to let podficcers know any of their works may be podficced; (3) a podficcer can reach out to an author directly to ask for express consent.

How many podfics can someone create?

As many as you want!
