Animage November 2023 Issue ft. Murakami Erica Interview (translation below)

Publication: October 10, 2023 (between episodes 32-33)

"I'll do as I want and follow my own path!"

Hymeno Ran, the young queen of Ishabana and a remarkable doctor, is extremely selfish. Although Hymeno sometimes acts out of the ordinary, for her, being selfish is a way of life to get what she wants.

Her aesthetics can be seen in the words she once said, "No one can make your wishes come true, only you can make them come true," and, "Dreams, as well as the future, starts with being selfish."

Hymeno's parents were murdered by the perpetrator of the "Wrath of God," and she ascended to the throne at a very young age. As she tries to avenge her parents, she grows and deepens her bonds as she clashes with the kings of other countries.

Rita Kaniska, who tried to seal off "Tranquility Grodie," the culprit behind the Wrath of God, by sacrificing themself, was stopped, and together with Hymeno and the others, were sent to Earth by the Uchu King Dagded Dujardin, a planet with the same name as Chikyu, where the Zyuden Sentai Kyoryugers and Deboth Army were fighting. Not only is it a concern about whether they can safely return, but also the present situation in Chikyu without its kings.

After a fierce battle on Earth, the battle between the Royal Sentai and the Uchu King will advance to a new stage!

-The secret birth of "The muscles that protect people"-

"Please tell us how you're feeling now that we've crossed the halfway point."

Murakami: After interacting with fans at the Summer event, I realized that the opportunities to meet everyone, and the time the 6 of us have together for filming is running out, so now, I'm just trying to cherish the few remaining film shoots we have left. In particular, the trip to Kyushu for the movie campaign was a big part of my life. After spending some private time with everyone for the first time, I realized once again that, "I really do love these members." Since we were all together the whole time, we got along really well, and it felt like we were on a school field trip (laughs). I wanted to give something back to the fans to preserve these memories with them, so I made a conscious effort to take pictures of people other than myself and post them on SNS.

"That might be why the two shot photo of Taisei Sakai-san and Masashi Ikeda-san taken by Murakami-san became a hot topic."

Murakami: That's right! I took it right after the event at TV Asahi, and I felt a sense of responsibility to, "Deliver it to everyone!" (laughs). Posting photos to SNS is a great way for everyone to remember these events, as the photos will be preserved.

"What are you conscious of when expressing the relationships between the other kings?"

Murakami: I think that the current way of thinking is not to go out and fight alone, but to fight together. In the beginning, everyone was strong in their own way, and their own interests came first, so it was difficult to come up with a plan to join forces, but gradually, as the enemy became bigger, I think the mindset changed to one of working together to defeat them. Because we've gained each other's trust, we can now rely on each other in our respective areas of expertise. For Hymeno, such people with whom she can trust and with whom she can be in a mutual relationship with is a valuable thing. The butler Sebastian and the maids are all very lenient with Hymeno, so there's no one at Ishabana who's willing to speak their mind. I think that's why having someone like Rita, who she can honestly call a friend, is a positive thing for her.

"Episode 30, where the truth of the Wrath of God was revealed, was the climax episode of the drama between Hymeno and Rita."

Murakami: For scenes between the two of them, I was impressed by episode 30, where Hymeno excitedly invites Rita to tea when they come to pick up the repaired royal seal. She's developed a deep relationship with Rita over the Wrath of God incident, and since they went out of their way to come see her, I think she may be under the impression that they want to spend time with her. I personally think it would've been cute if she thought, "Hmmm~?, They want to get along, do they? Alright, I'll invite them over then" (laughs).

"We get the impression that, especially in the beginning, Gira and Yanma were always together."

Murakami: That's right. I really like the combination of Gira and Yanma alot, although we haven't seen much of it recently. There's a perfect balance between Gira, who's honest and straightforward, Hymeno, who thinks that she has no choice but to stop him, and Yanma, who gives him ideas. Just like Hymeno and Rita, I think the interesting thing about King-Ohger is that you can see completely different sides of the characters depending on the combination.

"How about Jeramie, who appeared over the course of the story?"

Murakami: I think Hymeno has the impression that he's an amazing guy who's also between the lines (laughs). Like Gira, who's always moving ahead, Jeramie is always in his own little world, and from my point of view is very cute, but for Hymeno, he's more like a troublesome little brother. Hymeno is able to say what she thinks without hesitation, so when Gira uses his evil talk, she says, "I don't understand, translate for me," and she'll cut off Jeramie's story by saying, "Get rid of reading between the lines." On the other hand, Rita and Yanma are reasonable, so they're easy for Hymeno to talk to. She used to not know what Kaguragi was thinking, but I think her impression of him has changed when she learned of his compassionate side when they swapped bodies (episode 28).

"We heard that the dumbbell lifting in the scene where the 6 of you were gathered was improvised."

Murakami: That's right. I was thinking of Kaguragi's line, "For the sake of my people, I'll get my hands dirty," so I said, "The muscles that protect people." Even though he tends to intervene and pushes through with power, I was alittle nervous because there hasn't been any depictions of him doing muscle training. But, since I was given the OK on set and it was aired, I guess it was fine for his character (laughs). Considering the depictions of her dancing, I also thought that Hymeno's inner muscles were well developed and that she'd be able to lift dumbbells.

"It was a scene that you performed after thinking about it logically."

Murakami: Yeah, I already had some ideas in mind. I also consulted with Kaku So-san, and we showed each other how we'd act in our original roles. When Kaku-san told me, "In Kaguragi's case, I think he's planning to use the swap for something," I thought, "I see." That's why I decided to do muscle training to compensate for the lack of outer muscles in Hymeno's body (laughs). I wouldn't have known unless I had become Kaguragi myself, and I felt like I saw a side of Kaku-san that I didn't know before. I felt the pressure to exaggerate and make it interesting without destroying his character, but I think we were able to make that body swap episode happen because we're all friends who can talk about the performance and say, "This is how I want to do it."

-Hymeno's way of life seen through a collaborative effort-

"Is there anything you're conscious of in your interactions with Sebastian and the rest of your entourage?"

Murakami: For Sebas and the head maid Cleo, I try to be natural. I think that Sebas and the others are like family to Hymeno, those she can show her weakness to that she wouldn't show in public, and who she can entrust everything about herself to. Unlike the other kings, who are equals and share their opinions with each other, I often speak to Sebas and my entourage as if I'm throwing them off. In episode 25, Hymeno's decision to go into battle with Sebas and the others was a very serious one for her, as she had lost her family, and I acted with those feelings in mind.

"What are your impressions of KamakiriOhger, played by Suit Actor Sakanashi Yume-san?"

Murakami: She's so cool! I especially loved the scene in episode 27 where she wields the giant sickle. Seeing Yume-san's beautiful and cool actions makes me feel like I can't lose to her, and I get really fired up during the dubbing. While discussing it with Yume-san, I challenged myself with the pre transformation action scenes in episodes 32 and 33, which were done in collaboration with Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger.

"Episodes 32 and 33 were directed by Sakamoto Koichi, who's known for his action direction."

Murakami: It was fun to challenge myself with actions that I put my whole heart and soul into, and everyone else was really cool too! I even performed an Ina Bauer (laughs). In the scene where I fight with the Ohger Calibur, I didn't swing it around quickly, rather, I thought about the sword's center of gravity as I performed. When I was talking with Yume-san, she mentioned that she was conscious of sword driven movements, where the weight of the sword can be felt, so I also wanted to keep that in mind.

"Other than Hymeno, who's your favorite character?"

Murakami: It's Grodie! I love characters who are apathetic but the strongest, like Kiyotaka Ayanokoji from "Classroom of the Elite," or Levi from "Attack on Titan." I especially like characters who are mindless but can do anything, and who think the world is boring because they can do anything. That's why Grodie, who’s despairing of the world but also strong, is exactly what I like, although, for Hymeno, he's someone she can't help but want to perform surgery on (laughs).

"Please tell us about some of the most memorable scenes you've filmed."

Murakami: In episode 33, when Ian called out to Hymeno, she said something really cool in response, and I thought, "What is this line? 100 points!" (laughs). I think it showed Hymeno's idea that she'll live her life on her own terms. I myself will also keep these words in my heart as I live my life. I think that the unique combination of Hymeno and Ian is what made that interaction so interesting.

"We're looking forward to that broadcast! Finally, what are some highlights of future events?"

Murakami: The king's pasts will be depicted during the upcoming battle between the Uchu King and the Five Jesters, so make sure you pay attention to that. And, just as I felt during the movie, you’ll also see the unique aspects of Sentai, where the characters advance together with their friends, and the 6 members work together to face the enemy. Please look forward to seeing how the kings will conquer their extremely overpowered enemies! _

Question to Hirakawa Yuzuki-san! (Rita Kaniska's Actor)

During the tea party with Rita in episode 30, I think I asked them, "Do you like sweets?" I know that Yuzuyan herself really likes Japanese sweets, but I wonder what Rita likes. When I invite Rita to a tea party in the future, if you know what they like, I can prepare it and entertain them. Also, I need help designing a coat for when I go to Gokkan (laughs). I would love to hear Rita's ideas. (-Murakami)

Question from Watanabe Aoto-san! (Yanma Gast's Actor)

Q: What does Hymeno currently think of Yanma?

She didn't pay much attention to Yanma in the beginning, but when he talked about the Wrath of God in episode 7, he gave Hymeno a different perspective and values that she didn't have before, and now she trusts him. That was the first scene where Hymeno had a realization to what someone said to her. But it's not just Yanma that she trust, it's everyone. I want to tell him that. (-Murakami)

A blanket of snow covered the grounds of Hogwarts. Despite the biting chill in the air, its hallways were bustling with students; many anticipating the winter holidays. Everyone was excited to return home.

Everyone except you.

While Poppy prattled on fervently about her Gran’s recent bowtruckle encounter, bless your heart, your mind wandered elsewhere. You couldn’t help it. The constant “what if’s” pestering your mind as you recall the letter that you received from your mother. She wrote to you with a “heavy heart” informing you that her recent assignment would keep her away from home. Enjoy Christmas at Hogwarts; her scribbled words reminding you once again that you wouldn’t be alone.

five days prior

“It’ll be nice to have a friend,” a soft smile dawns on Ominis’ lips, as if he’s pleased with the thought.

“You aren’t going home?” The quill in your hand comes to a pause, as you look up at him quizzically.

“I never do.”

“Oh.” You don’t know what else to say. While Ominis shared little of his family, you knew they didn’t get on well with each other.

“Don’t worry about it, little dove.” He turns, his eyes immediately falling on you. He chuckles, poking at the frown you didn’t even realize you had. Your heart flutters at his sudden tenderness.

“Besides, I won’t be alone this time.”

You smile shyly. “What about Sebastian?”

“Went home early to spend the holidays with Anne.”

Ah.

“That makes sense,” you brush the loose strands of hair that tickle your face as you look down once again. “...You didn’t want to go with him?”

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were trying to get rid of me,” he nudges you playfully.

“No, never!” You quickly chase away any wrongfully read intentions. Little did he know, this was by far, one of the best ways you could be spending your Christmas.

“Good,” He looks pleased, returning to scribble notes down. His pen pauses, twirling slightly between his pale fingers as if he is carefully piecing together his next words. “You’ll spend Christmas with me then?”

You bite your lip, hiding the fact that you are completely over the moon that he even asked.

“If you’re alright with having me,” you glance up at him through your hair shyly only to find that he’s already turned towards you, answering your silly question with a gracious smile.

“I’ll meet you at your common room on Christmas morning then.” He returns to his assignment as a comfortable silence falls between the two of you for the rest of the evening.

“I have a feeling you haven’t heard a single word I’ve said,” Poppy grins knowingly as she knocks on the bottom barrel. With your exams out of the way, she invited you back to the Hufflepuff common room to spend some time together before she returned home.

“Oh shush,” you usher her into the common room, away from any prying eyes or ears. Nobody but Poppy knew of the fact that Ominis Gaunt had you completely enamored in all respects. Merlin forbid anyone accidentally overhearing her usual teases.

“I don’t understand,” Poppy picks up an apple on the way to her room, with you trailing not too far behind. She takes a bite, “It sounds like he’s totally into you.”

You shrug, wanting to change the subject. But she closes the large wooden door behind you, plopping down on the nearest bed, patting on the mattress and inviting you to join her.

“You like him.” She asks slowly.

You manage a slow nod, feeling your cheeks heat up – embarrassed to finally admit it aloud.

“You should totally tell him then.” She giggles, nudging your shoulder playfully.

“Well,” you say sheepishly before confessing the plans you made with Ominis to spend Christmas morning together.

“No way!” She gasps, apple in hand totally forgotten. You nod through your giggles. Night had fallen by the time you told her the full extent of your feelings for Ominis. Both of your eyes began to droop and before either one of you knew it, winter break had snuck up on you and Poppy was on her way home.

Christmas time at Hogwarts was your favorite. There was truly no word to describe it except magical. The halls were decorated with wreaths and ribbon, every corridor filled with the scent of earthy pine, with wafts of gingerbread trickling in every so often from the Great Hall. By this time, most of the students had returned home, leaving the castle unusually quiet.

In the early hours of the morning, before anyone else was awake, Ominis was true to his word and snuck his way over to your common room. He steps through the doorway in just his nightclothes and dark emerald robes; his usually gelled hair falling in tuffs over his silver eyes as he bends down, careful not to hit his head on the low ceiling.

“I thought I’d be caught for sure,” he laughs, a little out of breath, running a hand through his hair as he stands up straight.

“As did I,” you tease, “I’m surprised to see you breaking the rules Mr. Gaunt.”

His chuckle is faint as he follows you in towards the empty lounge area, the both of you falling to the floor, unconsciously huddling close together around the toasty fireplace.

“That little faith in me?”

“Well,” you jest, elongating your words for good measure. “You must be spending too much time with Sebastian. Here I thought that he was the one who was always up to no good — never in a million years did I imagine I’d be harboring “rule breaker” Ominis Gaunt.”

“I suppose I’m willing to break a rule or two for you, little dove.” He leans just enough so that your shoulders are touching. A small smile ghosts his lips, his gaze immediately drawn to your sudden closeness. Ominis always seemed to be drawn to your presence — like moth to a flame.

“Don’t tell me that,” you purse your lips, hiding your smile. “At this point, I’d just think you’re trying to get on my good side...”

He pauses. And for a second you think you’ve spoken out of turn.

“Is it working?” He plays with the ring on his middle finger. “Am I on your good side?”

Your smile falters for only a moment — realizing that he ever had the thought that you may think of him any less than you already do.

“You always are,” you say softly before looking down. “But…I don’t want to get greedy.”

There's a pause between the both of you and you think you've messed up everything. However, Ominis is the first to break the silence.

“Little dove,” his fingers hook under your chin, gently guiding you to look up at him. “You can be as greedy as you’d like.”

For a moment, you recall Poppy’s words wondering if they had held any truth. Your lips part, taking a deep breath to gain control of your nerves. Ominis must have taken notice. He pulls away quickly, looking down before changing the subject.

“Join me in the Greenhouse tonight.”

“The Greenhouse?” You ponder aloud, wondering what in the world would draw him to the Greenhouse on Christmas day.

He nods. “I…There’s something I’d like to show you.”

How did you wind up being so lucky – getting to spend the entirety of the day with the man who had secretly captured your heart. How could you say no?

“If you’d like.” He quickly adds.

“Of course, Ominis.” You cover your mouth to hide the giggle that threatened to spill out. “How you spoil me so.”

He lets out a breathy chuckle, almost as if he is relieved by your answer. “Tonight then.”

The wind was unforgiving, the icy air nipping at your warm cheeks as you followed him quickly in pursuit. With the darkness of night keeping you hidden, the two of you made your way down the spiraling steps, through the large copper doors and into the warm, welcoming confines of the Greenhouse.

“After you,” he holds the door open, allowing you to pass first. A gentleman to his very core. The small gesture makes you smile sheepishly. Following the steps, you finally stop in front of the large wooden planter; wild bluebells singing a sweet song – the cold wind from outside disturbing their slumber.

You pull down your hood, fiddling with the drawstrings, and doing your best to hide your nervousness.

“I wanted to show you something.” He’s not too far behind you, removing his hood as well, fair strands of hair falling to his eyes, making it hard to read his expression clearly. Was he nervous too?

“What is it?” You hold your hands behind your back, slowly walking towards him to get a better look.

“Well.” He begins towards you, closing the gap between the two of you. “It’s Christmas, y’know?”

You cock your head to the side but can’t hide your smile. His nervous rambling was one of the things you absolutely adored about Ominis.

“And I didn’t get you anything.”

“Oh Ominis,” you manage to find your voice, “I’m not expecting any gifts from you.”

“I know.” He interrupts, his voice dropping a soft murmur. “But I wanted to.”

“I– … Here.” He holds out a gold chain, dangling at the end is a beautiful stone in the shape of a small dove – its chiseled edges shimmering amidst the moonlight each time it twirls.

You don’t know what to say. He gestures for you to turn, before gently brushing your hair out of the way. His arms carefully lock around you, clasping the dainty piece of jewelry around your neck – his cold touch lingering just long enough to make you want more as soon as he pulls away.

You feel the little dove that hangs at your chest; his thoughtful gift almost brings tears to your eyes.

“Ominis, I –...” You sniff, turning around to face him, “It’s beautiful, thank you. But I feel horrible, I didn’t get you anything!”

“Oh but you did, little dove.” He steps closer, “Getting to spend Christmas with you is more than I could ever ask for.”

His soft words make you feel like the summer sunshine was beaming down and heating your skin; Your cheeks flushing as you feel the slight rustle of your robes, his closeness making your heart skip a beat.

The silence that ensues is filled with a small rustling sound overhead. Peering up, the shimmering glow of the lacewing flies illuminating the dainty decor that was now hanging above the both of you; Its crimson beady berries seemingly taunting you.

Oh.

“Mistletoe,” Ominis murmurs softly.

“So it is,” you say, barely above a whisper.

“I have something important to tell you,” there is a slight shake in his voice, almost as if he is afraid to speak his next words.

“Yes?” you whisper, encouraging him to continue.

“But I’m afraid it’ll mess up what we already have.”

You shake your head, assuring him that there was nothing to fear.

“This isn’t easy for me,” his warm breath is visible against the cold air. He reaches out towards you slowly, his hand pausing inches before touching your skin — hesitant. Scared. “I’ve never…not like this.”

You step forward, closing the gap between the two of you.

“But — you matter to me.” He gasps, feeling your cold touch against his cheek.

“Ominis?” You trail your fingertips along his fair skin and to your surprise, he closes his eyes and leans into your palm.

You are certain yet your words are only but a murmur, “Kiss me—“

He cuts you off, cupping your face in his hands as he leans down and brushes his lips to yours; Hesitant as if he is still asking for your permission. His minty breath fans across yours as he slightly pulls away, his hands gently searching your face for any uncertainty.

You can only manage a small nod, assuring him that it was okay. This time, he is anything but gentle – pressing his lips against your own, hungry and desperate to pull you in close. As your fingers make their way around his neck, he wraps his arms around your smaller frame – the both of you allowing yourselves to be completely consumed – and enraptured by each other.

The mandrake leaves shudder, mimicking you as they dig themselves deeper into the dirt — just as you were falling deeper, losing yourself in all of the man that was Ominis Gaunt.

In this chapter: You get a little emotional when the Ackerman family are overly protective of you. After returning home you face off against someone from your past.

Part 8

Hurried footsteps pattered against the wooden floor towards you as you happily baked in the kitchen. It’d been a week since you left the hospital and you were still recovering, but you felt rather strong. There was a dull aching now and then, sometimes there was blood and other times where you couldn’t walk at all. However, today you were feeling pretty good. So, you wanted to prepare a nice baked selection for Levi because he was out working to catch the shooter.

The hurried footsteps reached you and a sweet flora scent came from the person next to you. Soft hands grabbed yours and stopped you from working. You glanced at the concerned person to see it was Kuchel. You gave her a reassuring smile, but it did not change the look on her face. A sinking feeling filled you, you just knew this wasn’t going to be good.

With a gentle touch, Kuchel pulled you back from the counter as if you were going to break. “You should be in your chair.”

You gave her another smile. “I feel really good today. I just wanted to do something for Levi. He deserves something delicious.”

“You are not allowed in this kitchen.”

“But I feel fine.”

She moved you to your wheelchair. “You are not fine. You had a whole new spine put in. You’re doing too much and it will damage your body more. Levi will be distraught if you damage your body more.”

A cry crept in as you felt ashamed of yourself. “I understand, but I don’t like being stuck in bed all the time or the chair. I’m supposed to move around for therapy reasons. I just wanted to bake something for Levi.”

She pushed your chair down the hall to Levi’s room. “You are not stepping foot in my kitchen again.”

You lowered your head. “I just wanted to bake. I thought just one time would be okay.”

“It only takes one time for damage to be done that cannot be reversed.” She put you in Levi’s room. “Stay in here. You worry me so much.”

You fought your tears. “I’m sorry, Kuchel.”

She sighed a little. “It’s still too soon and you’ll be able to bake and do everything else you want once you recover. This is for your own good. I’ll finish off your baking for you. Do you want a drink?”

You shook your head slowly. “I think I’ll go to bed.”

“Let me help you get into bed.”

“I can get in.”

She held your upper arm. “I’ve got you.” She moved you to the bed and pulled back the covers. “Here we go. Now, take a seat and lie back.” She saw Hades walk over from his bed. “No Hades, you can’t get on the bed you will hurt her.” She smiled. “All right, all better. Rest well.”

Once Kuchel left the room you felt tears stringing your eyes. Kuchel was wonderful and caring, she was a dream mother but you felt a little suffocated. Not only had Kuchel been all over you and overly protective, but so had Sebastian, Vincent and Levi. Even the smallest movement was policed by them. It was like you were this bird trapped in a cage of love.

A gentle whining from your side grabbed your attention. You turned your head to see Hades staring at you. You smiled a little and patted the bed. “Please, get up here with me. I need someone.”

Hades jumped up onto the bed and partly lay on you like he knew exactly what you needed. He nuzzled close to you and huffed a little as he relaxed. When you smiled at him his tail thudded against the bed. He leaned into your touch as soon as you fussed him.

While your emotions ate away at you and Hades tried to provide comfort, Levi was in the middle of interrogating someone with the help of Erwin and Vincent. Levi was filled with rage and he was trying so hard not to lose control of himself. They had finally tracked down the sniper who hurt you and Levi. However, in Levi’s mind, all he could think about was this man hurt you, he didn’t care about himself.

The sniper was begging for mercy and forgiveness. Fear consumed the man as Erwin and Vincent questioned him, but his eyes were on Levi the whole time. Rumours had spread in the city long before Levi had met you about his insanity and strength, now there were more stories because he seemed to have gained more strength after you. You had become Levi’s great strength.

Levi had enough of the man’s begging and whining. All the sniper was doing was making excuses, but not actually condemning a single person. Levi needed a name, he wanted a confession. Levi shoved his sleeves up and clenched his fists causing his muscular tattooed arms to bulge. Not a word was spoken from Levi, he was just too angry to even utter anything. Levi was hurting because you were, so he wanted to hurt someone.

His fist collided with the sniper’s face with a loud crack. The sweaty and warm body of the sniper hit the metal floor so hard that he bounced a little. Before the man had time to mentally register what was happening to him, Levi grabbed a fistful of the man’s shirt and began hitting him over and over. Though Levi had no cybernetics in his hands, the force at which he hit was as if he were some mechanical beast.

Reason fluttered through Levi’s head causing him to stop hitting the man. He panted a moment not from exhaustion, but because of the anger that he was trying to contain. Levi inspected his cut-up fist. “Names. I want names.”

Vincent squatted before the sniper. “I would tell him if I were you. The woman you shot is his fiancée, someone he is deeply obsessed with and in love with. You fucked up big time. It would be in your best interest to talk.” He smirked. “He’s holding back because of her. I know my brother. I’ve seen the things he’s done.”

The sniper shook in place. “She wasn’t the target, Levi was. My job was to kill Levi, but he moved at the last second.” He stared at Levi. “Almost like he knew at the last minute. Is he some monster?”

Levi moved closer. “Wanna find out?”

The sniper felt a cold fear shoot through him, but Levi’s communicator went off and whoever called made Levi demonic look to become so gentle and soft. Watching a murderous look turn into something so soft and loving was scary. “Who? What?”

Levi softly said your name. “My cute little bunny! Are you okay?”

You whined a little. “I umm…I won’t be at your parent’s place when you come home. I’m leaving.”

Levi felt panicked. “What? What do you mean bunny?”

“I left. I packed some things and left with Hades.”

“Where are you?”

You sighed. “I’m home. I’m at our home. I just…I love your mother and father a lot, but at your parent’s place, I felt like a wounded bird being locked up in a tight cage with eyes on me always. I couldn’t do anything.” You sobbed a little. “I wanted to bake you some delicious treats and I wasn’t allowed to. I know your family means well. I know your family is concerned. I know I almost lost the ability to use my legs, but I want to do things for myself.” You sniffed a little and wiped your tears away. “Sorry, I feel awful for crying and complaining about this all. I just…I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“I’m on my way home, my bunny. I’m coming to you.” He hushed your cries. “It’s okay. You have every right to be upset. Please don’t be sorry, okay? You’ve done nothing wrong. My family is overly protective, you know how terrible I am for it too. How about I come how and we bake together? I’ll give you lots of kisses.”

“But you’re working. It’s okay grumpy. I just wanted you to know I won’t be in your room at your parent’s place. Have a good day at work, grumpy. Love you.”

He walked away from the group as he lovingly said your name. “I love you, my beautiful bunny. I’m coming home to you, okay? You need me. I’ll be home in a bit.” He ended the call and turned to Erwin. “I have to go home, my bunny needs me.”

Erwin nodded. “You need to get home to her. We’ll sort this out.”

“Get a name.” He turned from his friends and made his way back home to you. “Poor bunny.” His heart longed for you. He wanted so badly to fix the pain in your heart. He understood what you were going through, his family could be overly protective of people they care about and he was rather bad for it too. “My little bunny.”

As soon as Levi’s car pulled up you had a sinking feeling within you. You didn’t want to hurt him or his family. You felt terrible. As you gazed at the door your vision blurred once Levi entered with flowers in his hand. “Mm.”

Levi hurried over to you. “Bunny?”

You shook a little as you fought your emotions and lowered your head. “Mm.”

He dropped the flowers and threw his blazer before picking you up and holding you close. “Don’t cry, please don’t cry. I’m sorry. Whatever it is I did I’m sorry. I’m a terrible fiancé and you deserve better.”

You clung to him. “Don’t ever leave me.”

He hugged you tightly. “I won’t.”

“I love you.”

He showered your face with kisses. “I love you so much.” He carried you to the sofa and sat down with you on his lap. “I’m sorry you felt suffocated.”

“I know everyone is just worried about me, I know and I feel shit that I ran and got upset.”

He cupped your face. “Don’t be sorry for your feelings, we’ve gone over this before my darling.”

You released a long sigh. “You’re right.”

“Do you want kisses?”

You nodded and whined a little. “Please.”

He showered your face in kisses before crashing his lips against yours. “You ready to start baking together?”

You smiled brightly. “Yes!”

He moved you to the kitchen. “You get a few things out and I’ll just put your flowers in water, then I’ll let Hades out in the garden.”

“Okay.”

Levi blew you a kiss and walked away from you allowing him to call his mother. “Hey, ma? She’s home with me.” He glanced over at you. “She’s okay, she just felt a bit…yeah, you’re right…no don’t be sorry, okay? She knows you love her and she loves you too. She’s independent and she has been for so long, so it’s hard for her to have someone fuss over so much. No one is to blame.” He chuckled. “You don’t need to send her anything…mum…mum…mum, don’t send her all that.” He laughed. “Love you too mum. I’ll take care of her, don’t worry. I’ve got this…mum…mum slow down…it’s okay, you’re just full of love. I’ll talk to you soon, okay? Love you, bye.”

“She’s upset, isn’t she?”

Levi turned and gazed at you. “How did you sneak up on me? I’m a bad boy member of the deadly Ackerman mafia.” He pulled you close making you giggle. “Sneaky little bunny.”

You hugged him. “The sneakiest. So, she’s upset, right?”

Levi kissed your forehead. “No, she’s just worried about you. She loves you and she almost sent you a vanload of gifts.”

You giggled. “I’m glad we’re okay. I feel bad for running.”

“She understands and is sorry for being very possessive of you.” He blushed. “Now you know where I get it from.”

“I do.” You nibbled your lip. “Speaking of possessive. I want to get a tattoo of something dedicated to you.”

Levi’s heart raced as a tingle of pleasure went through him. “R-Really?”

You nodded. “Yes. Now, time for baking!”

You sat up on Levi as he tugged on the restraints, seeing him below you and panting from pleasure after he just emptied himself deep inside you was arousing. Even though you were tired from the body-shaking lovemaking, you knew you needed to rest. You dragged your nails down his pecs and purred at him. “Are you getting hard again inside me?”

Levi’s cheeks became pink. “Uh…yes…”

“I’m flattered.” You kissed him before pulling off him. “But we must rest because we’re both still healing.”

You bit your lip as you mewled. “Yes. Chase me grumpy.”

Levi growled a bit before yanked his arms hard causing the restraints to break. “Hop along little bunny.”

You squealed in delight and ran out of the room. “The big bad wolf is free!”

Levi yanked on his bottoms before sprinting after you. “Come here little bunny! It’s time for spanks!”

You screamed a bit and ran outside into the lush garden. You looked back to see Levi was right behind you. You ran around the pool allowing you to get some space between you and Levi. For a moment you thought you were free because as you glanced behind you Levi was gone. A mixture of pride and sadness filled you. However, as soon as you entered the living room you were tackled and lifted off your feet.

Levi growled at you. “Got you. You really think you could escape me?”

You giggled as you looked at him. “I’m a good little bunny. You wouldn’t hurt a good little bunny, would you?”

He pretended to think your words over. “Hmm. I wouldn’t.” He sat down and put you over his lap. “But you’re not a good bunny.” He pushed his fingers into your hair and tangled them in place before lightly tugging. “Naughty bunny.” He smacked his hand against your bum causing you to cry out with a mixture of joy and pleasure. He smirked a little. “You know, the sound you made then made me think that maybe you enjoy being naughty just so I’ll do this.”

You kicked your legs a little. “Maybe.”

He spanked you over and over, each moan and cry was delicious to him. “Learned your lesson?”

You pouted a moment. “Yes.”

“Good girl.” He rolled you over before sitting you on his lap. “Love you.”

“Love you.” You hugged him and hummed with happiness. “What are the plans for today?”

“I think we should relax.” He looked down at you. “I’ve pushed your body too much today. I know it’s been a month since you’ve healed up, but I worry.”

You slipped off his lap. “I think we should have a nice snuggle session and some time in the pool would be good.”

Levi smiled at your suggestion. “I think so too.”

You leaned over and kissed him. “I’m going to go to the shop. I’ll take Hades with me.”

Levi whined a little. “Thant could be dangerous.”

“Levi, you have been the target, not me. I’ll be okay alone.”

He released a long sigh. “Okay. Don’t be long and text me along the way, okay?”

“Promise!” You hurried to the bedroom and pulled on a classy nice dress, then paired it with a thin robe. You gave Levi many kisses before leaving him. “I’ll be back soon.”

“Love you!”

“Love you too!”

Hades jumped into the car first and then you climbed in after. Having someone drive you around was odd, but you were part of a power family and someone had tried to kill you, so you needed it. It was strange how much had changed for you. You went from a terrible boyfriend who put you into debt and living on barely anything, to being engaged to the son of the most powerful family in the city while living in an expensive flat. Even though you had been shot, you were incredibly happy now and the life you lived was perfect. You were looking forward to your future with Levi.

You climbed out of the car and looked around as Hades climbed out. You moved to the convenience store in front. As soon as you slipped inside you were in heaven. The shelves were filled with all the things you loved. It didn’t take long before your basket was filled with noodles, snacks, cakes and drinks. You paid for everything and left with a spring in your step.

Hades stopped and began growling at someone. His fur was up as he growled deeper with more rage. Knowing your dog very well, you turned and looked over to see Hades growling at Ariana and Danny. It was strange seeing your ex after so long, the last time you saw him was in the old apartment you shared and you were cuddling and kissing, but then in the morning, he was gone. It looked like everything had gotten to him because he looked a little rough, he’d grown out his stubble and his hair was a bit longer.

Danny brightened up at seeing you. He moved closer as he said your name. “You look incredible.” He flinched when Hades snapped at him. “Aggressive dog.”

“He’s my guard dog. He protects me from bad people. Why are you here?”

He smiled a little. “I’m back. I’ve fixed everything and now I’m back. I wanted you to meet my mother.”

You released a long sigh as you got ready to say something you’d been building up. “No. You didn’t fix everything, I did. You owed the fucking Ackerman family thousands and because you weren’t here, they came after me. Lucky for me, Levi was a kind man and found another way I could pay him back for you fucking everything up. One thing led to another and we became a couple. I’m going to marry Levi.” You stared at Ariana. “Besides, I’ve already met your mother and she’s a fucking bitch. She hired a sniper to shoot my Levi and as a result, shot me!”

Danny’s eyes widened. “You were shot?”

“Have a new spine too.”

He turned to Ariana. “You shot her?”

Ariana gave a strained smile. “I would never hurt the woman you love.”

You flipped her off. “Fuck you, you bitch. You hurt my man. I look forward to the day when the Ackerman family break you.”

Danny stood between you and Ariana. “Hey! That’s my mother.”

“She’s cruel and evil. Do you know what she did to her first child?”

“First?” He backed up. “I didn’t know. I thought I was an only child.”

You shook your head. “No. Vincent Ackerman? He’s your half-brother. You share the same mother. She beat and tortured him, but Sebastian found out and took Vincent away. She was desperate to be rich and famous. She never cared about her children. When we were a couple, you never spoke of her and when I mentioned my mother, you pulled a face as if you had mummy issues. She abandoned you until she wanted something from you. She’s using you to get to the Ackerman’s again.”

Danny lowered his head. “She…”

Ariana placed her thin hand with long nails on her son’s shoulder. “Don’t listen to her. You know I love you.”

He glared at her. “Do you? You left me with father and you only sought me out again recently. You knew I was in debt to the Ackermans. You knew.”

Ariana let out a nervous laugh. “Let’s go home.”

“You wanted to come here. You said she was here.”

You rolled your eyes. “I’m leaving. I have a wonderful lover to get home to.” You returned to the car and let Hades in with you. “Damn woman.”

Hades whined a little as if he could sense that something wasn’t right. He perked up when you fussed him showing that you were okay. All you wanted was to go home and Hades wanted it too. A tingling was going through your back meaning you had pushed it a bit too much, but you also were thinking it was linked to seeing Ariana and Danny. Adrenaline was just pumping through your body.

You closed your eyes for a moment as the car moved. Once you pulled up at the house you climbed out and hurried inside to see Levi was tapping on his communicator. “Are you getting ready to call me?”

He blushed hard. “Maybe.”

You giggled at his blush. “Well, I’m home now and I brought all our food.”

“Perfect.”

You placed it on the kitchen counter and hissed a little. “Fucking back.”

Levi picked you up. “Darling bunny, you need to sit down.”

You kissed his cheek a few times. “Okay.”

He placed you on the sofa and moved to the kitchen. “I’ll make the noodles for us both.”

You gazed at Levi with a happy sparkle in your eyes. “Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome.”

You nibbled your lip as you thought over a few things. “Levi, I need to tell you something.”

He handed you a drink. “You can tell me anything.”

You lay back on the sofa and told him all about meeting Danny and Ariana. “Don’t worry, they didn’t hurt me but it seemed like Ariana was very nervous. She didn’t want Danny to know what she did to me.”

Levi clenched his jaw a little. “How did Danny seem? Sasha told me he’s rather handsome.”

You frowned a little. “Sasha told you? Why did she tell you? What do you mean?”

He gulped. “I uh…I’ve been watching him. I asked Sasha to follow him and locate him. I was close to getting him, but Ariana got him.” He winced a little. “You’re mad at me, right?”

“No.��

“Disappointed?”

You shook your head. “No, I’m…I’m flattered. You hunted my ex because he hurt me. I kind of want you to catch him.” You purred at Levi. “I wanna know what you’d do to him.”

Levi sat next to you and began massaging your legs. “Well, I’d break his hands and fingers for touching you in intimate places. I’d cut his dick off for being inside you. I’d gouge his eyes out for looking at your pretty body and face.”

You mewled in delight. “That’s hot.”

Levi dragged his hand up the inside of your thigh and lightly brushed your underwear. He smirked as you moaned at his touch. “I’m glad you find me so arousing.”

You panted a little. “Touch me more.”

“What kind of touch do you want?”

You leaned closer and kissed him. “Light touches. Touch the inside of my thigh more, touch my breasts and bite my neck lightly.”

Levi helped you pull your arms out of the top part of the dress and pulled it down. He admired your chest covered in lovebites. He tugged on your panties and pulled you to straddle his lap.

You hummed a little and removed your bra for Levi. You tangled your fingers in his beautiful soft raven hair before pulling him close to you. Description: Ominis and you are talking about your family. Ominis x f!reader

Warnings: none

You sat in the undercroft, exhausted after exercising some spells usually you would go to the Room of Requirement, but since DADA would start in like an hour, you thought practicing near by would give you more time before the class starts.

You heard foot steps approaching, "Sebastian? Are you in there?". A familiar voice asked. Hence only three people would enter this room, you knew it was Ominis. "Hello Ominis, I'm afraid he is not.", you greeted him with a smile, he couldn't see it but your tone gave him a welcoming feeling. "What a shame I wanted to talk with him, but since you are here, I could also ask you as well.", he declared. Wondering what he want, you wait as he asked you, "Why is it that you and Sebastian seemed to avoid each other? Usually you two stick together all the time. Did something happened between the two of you?" "Oh", you said, with a saddening voice, "well we had an argument about Goblins, but I rather would not talk about it, if it is ok to you Ominis." - "Well sure, I'm sorry that I had ask you." hearing you being uncomfortable, Ominis tried to change the subject, "I've always wondered what your parents are be like."

"Pardon me?", you didn't expect that turn of the conversation, you went silent for a moment with a concerned expression, as you remembered how it was grewing up in your household. "I only know my family and they are rather unpleasant, I've never had a chance to meet different parents and how they would be like. I only imagined it, hearing of your fast success with every charm and potion making, I assume your parents would be quite proud of such a talented witch like you.", Ominis explained himself.

"Actually it is quite the opposite, Ominis. Almost as your parents but on the other side of the coin.", you told him, with a doubtfull face. "Really, are they also having a pureblood obsession or anything like that?", he dig even more for answers from you.

"No. They are muggles.", you confessed. "Muggles, really?", he frowned, "such a powerful witch, which is a muggleborn? Hilarious thinking of it." "Again pardon me, Ominis? I thought blood status didn't matter to you at all.", you replied. "Sorry, it came out wrong. I didn't mean to insult you, just the thought of it. I'm sure that you are the most capable witch of all time, knowing that you are indeed muggleborn is a punch right in the stomach for every pureblood fanatic. It is actually funny, thinking of it like that.", he reassured you.

"Putting it like that does sound a bit funny. But you wanted to know what it is like with my family. And I can guarantee you it is nothing at all like you would expect. See, as muggles they never knew that such a wonderful place like hogwarts even exist. Despite they aren't believing in such things, if they would be confronted with it, they would be confused. They would say it is the devils work. So you can imagine when I got my first letter, I didn't got the chance to open it myself. In fact the first three letters got thrown away, they thought that someone is playing pranks on our family or maybe that some sort of satanic cult tries to lure their daughter away from home. One time I got lucky enough to read one letter, wondering what Hogwarts was and the list of things I would need to buy. But when they found the letter in my room, they punished me and sent me to a monastery to live there for years. Until one time Professor Fig approached me. I was first hesitant, since the cult thing could have been real. But Fig asked me if I never encountered some sort of happnings which could have not be explained with rational thinking. My parents are faithful in god, so of course everything that's happened could be explained by it was gods way of showing his love. But I never felt that way. And also Fig was right, I've made things appear, it always seemed when I cried the sky always cried with me. So one time I snugged out of the monastery, to meet Professor Fig, he disapparated with me to diagon ally, to proof me that it was real that it wasn't a cult."

You went silent about your thoughts how the things between you and your parents have had ended. "Wow, I certainly couldn't imagine that, but I've heard muggles would be narrow minded if it includes some sort of magic. I'm sorry, that your parents are pleasant as mine", Ominis said putting a hand on your shoulder to comfort you. "Well it wasn't the end of it, I was doubting on telling my parents the truth. Part of me would loved to share those news with them, but deep down I knew the truth is, if I would have ever tell them about that wizarding world with all seriousness, they would have try to exorcist me or drag me to an asylum, I'm pretty sure of it. But I didn't want to go, leaving them heartbroken without any trace of my disappearance. So I've left a letter, that I want to take the path for my future in my own hands and that I will leave them, as long as I need to.", with tears in your eyes and some melancholy you told everything Ominis have wanted to know.

"Thank you, Y/N. For trusting me and to share your history with me. I'm truly sorry, about you feeling alone , as I do and having a family you can not return to. I promise you, that I will always be there for you." he assured you, with a soft smile. Feeling warmth in your chest, you thanked him, "Thank you Ominis for your kind words, I'm always thinking to visit them some day, not sure about if I will ever be willing to tell them the truth, even if lying is a sin. I think honesty will only do harm, I don't want to lose them entirely. Knowing that you will be there for me really makes the loneliness inside of me disappear. Maybe it is true that family doesn't end in blood." - "And it doesn't start there either.", he finished your sentence, while being closer to your face. You saw his lips and glared at his wonderful blue eyes not leaving them.

"Is it ok if I?", he asked hesitant. "I would love to, Ominis", allowing him, he moved his face closer until his nose peaked at your cheek, trying not to mess up he slowly tried to find your face with his hand. You assisted him by putting your hand over his to guide him to your chin. As he softly searched with his tumb for your lips, he blushed feeling your soft underlip. He always imagined it to feel like that. He lean in, pressing his lips gentle at yours. If there was a heaven, he surely was there now. Knowing that you trust him, makes him feel so close to you, that he wanted to feel it also on the outside. Letting him in to your vulnerability, gave him the confidence to be your guard, your safe haven.

He promised to himself, that he will never leave your side. Ominis ended the kiss with a smile. Taking a deep breath, you went in for a hug, pressing yourself thight to him. You wanted to be at him as near as possible. He brushed with his hand over your silky hair, he smelled at them, he went crazy for your scent. He could always tell your presence, because of it.

"Ominis, I think the class will start soon.", you've realized, not wanting to leave that comfort you're just feeling. "We should go, and continue exploring each other later. Shall we?", he took out his wand to guide himself to move out of the undercroft, holding your hand to accompany him. Your head was a mess, exploding by figuring out what he just meant with exploring each other later.

As you joined the class you two shared one desk, a Sebastian, sitting at the desk on the corner behind you, looked confused by his best friend holding hands with you. But you didn't even capture his expression, your eyes, head and thoughts were all one and only about Ominis. Hecat started the class, but all you could think was what he meant by exploring each other later.

2023 In Review : Authors' Edition

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again? I wrote my first drabble. Plan to do more as part of my compliments to fanart that I like and reblog.

How many fics did you work on this year? (They don’t have to be finished or published!) 28

What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer? I overuse semicolons and dashes and the first step is admitting you have a problem.

What piece of media inspired you the most? Handmaid's Tale, Snowpiercer (And of course MCU just b/c of Stucky)

What fandom(s) did you write for this year? Marvel/MCU, Actor RPF, Supernatural, Fresh, Snowpiercer, Knives Out

What ship(s) captured your heart? Stucky already had my heart. I really got into other C.Evans and S.Stan characters paired with OFC's, this year though.

What character(s) captured your heart? I liked exploring Curtis Everett and Lloyd Hansen. But I still ride or die for Steve&Bucky.

Did you write for a new fandom or ship this year? Yes!! Lots of new M/F pairings, and 5 new C.Evans characters.

What fic meant the most to you to write? "The Carter Academy for Omega Excellence"--because this was my first commissioned fic and I'm super proud of that. Plus, I've formed a friendship with the person who asked for it!

What fic made you feel the happiest to work on? No clear winner for this one, just a ton of ties. Fluffiest fic was "Angels Are Avian Adjacent"

What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing? "The Merging: A Union" - just b/c I've left the SN fandom and was glad to have given the story an end.

What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it? "Medically Necessitated" - because there is SO much I want to include in the plot of this one and it just is hard to keep it all straight in my head sometimes. Plus I'm rarely in the mood to write it because I hold the tone and quality of the writing so dear to my heart, that I don't want to just phone it in or half ass it. It is not finished (yet!).

What fic was the easiest to write? "Wet Dream" was written as a Bingo fill, and it felt like it came pretty easily.

What were your shortest and longest fics this year? "It Started with Helga the Lunch Lady" - 863 words "Medically Necessitated" - 91,000 words

What were you go-to writing songs? "Wicked Game," "Enjoy the Silence," "I want to," "Like U," "Say It," "Falling," "Insomnia," "Should Be Higher," "Daddy Issues."

What were your go-to writing snacks? Kratom, caffeine pills

What was the hardest fic to title? Hydra Sanatorium - the title was actually something else that I decided I didn't like, so it got changed.

Share an excerpt from your favorite scene AGAIN, too too many to sort through them all, but I love the scene in Good Ol' Fashioned Values where Steve and Bucky are making love, and Steve is emotional over wanting to be the omega mate he used to be for Bucky, and Bucky tenderly reassures him that he's still the perfect mate: [[“Buck, oh, p-please …”

Always. Even when you can’t.” Steve’s eyes got misty at that, and plaintive, sad sounds started working their way out of his throat alongside the moans. Bucky hushed him. “Shh sh sh, Sweetheart.”]]

Share the final version of a sentence or paragraph you struggled with. What about it was challenging? Are you happy with how it turned out? The last paragraph of Modifications & Improvement of Functions, because the tone of the fic was so lighthearted and so twisted at different points, I wasn't quite sure which tone I wanted it to end on. [[Steve’s old junker of a heart gets another ding in it. He pulls Bucky in close to be the little spoon, and lies there kissing at the back of his neck for a long, long time. “You always work right, Buck. You’re always perfect. I love you.” He traces the edges of the star that’s carved into the nape of his neck, and eventually he whispers, “We’ll go to the piercing shop tomorrow.”]]

What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story? That a 16 year old character may NOT be written engaging in even non-explicit sexual relationships in a Tumblr fic. I had to reformat a few details to be safe (but I increased the age gap super much instead, so nah nah! 😝(Got my abusive Tumblr Staff Troll 🧌to thank for that one.)

What did you use to write? (e.g. writing programs, paper & pen, etc.) Google Docs. Sometimes I'll jot something small down straight onto a Tumblr post.

If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year? I'm just really satisfied with the themes and unique way the narrative handles the subject matter in Modifications and Improvement of Functions, I think. As well as how I navigated the half-sibling incest depicted in "Make it Stick"

Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic? When I achieved 5 in a rows on Bingos, I posted the masterlists. First time doing that!

How did you recharge between fics? Sleep, binge eating, elliptical machine/gym, Youtube videos.

I also had two fics I was supposed to write and another fic I was supposed to draw for, for the @stuckybangs, which I didn't complete due to the injury. I'd love to collab with those partners and fulfill their visions! BUT MOST OF ALL: I want to finish up many, if not most (or all 😅) of my WIPs that I have going. I love them all so much and have no intention of letting any of them remain unfinished forever!

I'm actually better at writing smutty fiction than I am at drawing. I've already posted several smutty fanfictions of 'Omnis x Reader' and 'Sebastian x Reader' on Japanese SNS. I wanted to publish them on AO3 one day, so I created an AO3 account. The problem is that those fics are written in Japanese and I don't have the English skills to translate them 🤣.

Interview on Animate Times 07.12.2023

“Along with our trajectory, the 20th anniversary was beautifully colored.” The tribute album “SID Tribute Album -Anime Songs-” released to commemorate the 20th anniversary features Daisuke Ono, Romi Park, Masakazu Morita, and other splendid voice actors! SID’s members talk about their feelings and thoughts on the album.

SID, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, is releasing a tribute album “SID Tribute Album -Anime Songs-” on December 6 (Wednesday). This album is an unprecedented tribute album in which SID’s anime tie-up songs are covered by splendid voice actors who have appeared in the respective anime.

The album includes seven songs. The participating voice actors are Daisuke Ono (Sebastian in Black Butler), Romi Park (Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist), Masakazu Morita (Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach), Haruka Tomatsu (Morgiana in Magi), Ayumu Murase (Mahmut in “Altair”), Sora Amamiya (The Seven Deadly Sins: Imperial Wrath of the Gods), and Jun Fukuyama (Saburo/Sanlang in Heaven Official’s Blessing).

Each time the participating voice actors, song titles, and comments by the voice actors were announced, there was a huge response on SNS. The “SID Tribute Album -Anime Songs-” is finally released. On the same day, a new song “Soyokaze” was released digitally for the first time in a year and nine months, conveying the band’s gratitude for the past while providing a big boost for the Nippon Budokan, the last venue of their 20th anniversary, and for the future ahead.

We interviewed Mao (Vo), Shinji (Gt), Aki (Ba), and Yuuya (Ds) about “SID Tribute Album -Anime Songs-” and the new song.

Our journey as a rock band and the journey we have taken together with anime

How did you come up with the idea for the tribute album "SID Tribute Album -Anime Songs-"?

Mao: With the 20th anniversary of SID, the idea of a tribute album first came up. While we were deciding what direction to take...we had the opportunity to do quite a few anime tie-ups. When I looked back on our past, I realized that while we have walked the road as a rock band, we have also walked the road with anime, and I thought it would be great if we could show our progress with anime on our 20th anniversary.

I thought it would be “ordinary” if we just collected our anime theme songs and made an album. When we decided that we wanted to do something out of the ordinary... I started thinking: “It would be great if we could get the voice actors who play the characters to sing the theme songs of the anime, but it would be difficult, right?” So I approached the record company to discuss the idea. At the time, I thought, “Well, it’s probably not going to happen.” After that, when I was wondering about what happened to the tribute project, I got a call saying: “It’s decided!” At that point, the lineup had already been decided. And I was surprised. I was surprised by the lineup, and I was sure it was all thanks to the efforts of the staff. I was amazed at what they had done.

That’s the love of the staff team, right…

Mao: I felt there was nothing but love.

You just mentioned the 20th anniversary, but may I ask each of you how you feel about the occasion of your 20th anniversary?

Aki: We have been blessed by the people around us, including the tribute project that Mao was just talking about. We are also blessed to have our 20th anniversary celebrated by our fans. I am very happy that it is not only our 20th anniversary, but also that everyone is celebrating the 20th anniversary together. I thought that after 20 years of continuous efforts, there are so many good things that can happen.

Was there anything different from previous anniversaries?

Aki: We’ve had the opportunity to celebrate anniversaries for 5, 10, and 15 years, and each time was very moving. But for the 20th anniversary, I am deeply moved by the fact that we have come this far together with our fans. I feel this especially true as our career progresses.

Shinji: The 20th anniversary has passed in the blink of an eye for me. Those 10 years were even more fleeting. I was especially happy to hear the congratulations from fans. And this tribute? The moment I heard the names of the people who would be participating, I thought: “That can’t be true.” I’m the type of person who looks up the names of voice actors when I watch anime, so I thought: “No way.” It also feels like a gift to us.

Yuuya: I feel that the transition from the 15th anniversary to the 20th anniversary has happened very quickly. This is because due to the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2020, everyone around the world has been spending time doing things they really wanted to do but were unable to do. That’s why I feel so grateful to be able to celebrate our 20th anniversary now. When I think back on it, I feel like I’m clenching my teeth.

When you think about it now, the coronavirus pandemic was a strange and indescribable period, wasn’t it?

Yuuya: That’s right. At the time, the days passed without me really understanding what was going on. Looking back now, I wonder if it was just a dream. Even during that time, year after year, I have continued to pursue what I could do right then in my own way. Beyond that, we received this wonderful work of art as part of our 20th anniversary celebration. I thought that it beautifully colored our 20th anniversary together with our trajectory.

How about you, Mao?

Mao: When we reached the milestone of our 20th anniversary, I remembered when we started the band. At that time, I didn’t really think about how many years I wanted to continue for or what I wanted to do in the future. One step at a time, we were able to release CDs, and one more step and more people started coming to our live shows, and so on, one step at a time, the 20th anniversary was waiting for us. It’s an image like that. Along the way, there were staff who always watched over us, and all our precious fans who always supported us. We didn’t get here on our own.

I think there are fans who are not able to come to the live concerts now for some reason or another. But it is because of the involvement and listening of these kids that SID was able to reach its 20th anniversary. I felt again that we would not have been able to reach this point without any of them. That’s why I feel a deep emotional attachment.

I see that you have been thinking back to your origins. Mao, do you often look back on the past?

Mao: I am the type of person who is a little shy about looking back on the past because of my personality. (laughs) I don’t do that very often. I almost never watch old DVDs. But when I look back at it at a time like this, it makes me love the history of SID. I can look back and think “how cute” I was back then. I think I have finally reached that point.

When you look at the past objectively, you may sometimes have mixed feelings, but now you think it’s cute.

Mao: That’s right. For example, even if you’re not a musician, you might feel embarrassed if you look at your yearbook on a regular basis, but if you look at it on your coming-of-age ceremony, you might feel a little different. It feels close to that. When I opened our past albums at milestones in my life, I felt different emotions.

I believe that anime has been a big part of SID’s progress over the past 20 years. How do you analyze the affinity between anime and SID?

Mao: We were able to debut with a wonderful work called “Black Butler". The anime debut of “Black Butler” came at the same time, so we decided to debut together. I don’t think such miracles happen very often. In addition to that, our musicality, visuals, and the worldview of “Black Butler” at the time were a good fit for us in the eyes of the world. We felt that we were a good match. What I remember most is that we had a good start.

It wasn’t a success experience from that point on, but if you have a track record of “When we teamed up with anime, it turned out well”, and the next time you’re approached about an anime project, you’ll feel like: “Let’s make this one a success, too”. From there, I started studying anime again, and realized many things, that there are some differences between the anime of the generation we grew up with and the anime of today, and that surprisingly, there are a lot of adult fans. That’s how it started. I started to like anime more and more, and before I knew it, even anime fans started saying they were happy that SID sings the theme song. That SID is stable. I was the happiest when told that we were stable. I’m really happy when I see anime fans who watch it for some reason and say, “It’s SID. That’s alright.”

I think many people came to like SID because of the anime.

Mao: Even among rock bands, we are in the visual kei genre. The Visual-kei genre was thriving, but to put it another way, I think it was a closed genre in a sense. I think it was the anime tie-up that completely broke out of that shell. Our encounter with anime expanded our horizons, and our lives themselves changed. We are very grateful for that. It is now an indispensable part of our lives. I treasure the works we have done together in the past.

This tribute brings together the cast members who played the characters in that work. Have you had the opportunity to get to know the voice actors as you continued to work on the anime tie-ups?

Mao: I have had a few conversations with them, but that’s about the only time I’ve had the opportunity to work with them. In making this tribute album, each voice actor sent us a message saying: “Congratulations on your 20th anniversary." It made me happy to know that they knew SID. It was a little strange to hear that so many great people were sending messages to us. I was a little bit surprised to hear that people were sending messages to us. (laughs) I would be happy if we could use this as an opportunity to work with the voice actors again.

I’m looking forward to it. Aki, you provided the 10th anniversary song “Shall we…?” to Machico, right? I was interviewing Machico, and since she is a big fan of SID, she was extremely happy. Through providing music, have you noticed anything new about the appeal of being a voice actor?

Aki: So far, I have had the opportunity to work with various people, including singers and voice actors. For example, Machico is a very attractive singer. Her skills, including her singing skills, are extremely high. She kept saying, “I need to try harder at singing...!” but I said, “No, that’s enough (laughs).” There’s no gap between the sound coming from the microphone and the sound coming out. They must have a very good ear. I think that is a point that all of them have in common, including Machico. I could somehow tell from the preliminary song “Shall we...?”. I had the feeling that it would be a good piece. It was fun to make. I still listen to it. It’s really wonderful.

Talking about the tribute songs

Could you tell us about the songs included in the SID Tribute Album -Anime Songs-? Monochrome Kiss is the opening song for Black Butler, which Mao mentioned earlier. It’s said that Daisuke Ono will sing it.

Shinji: First of all, Daisuke Ono’s voice is beautiful. I think the arrangement for that voice is also wonderful. Our original song had an acoustic atmosphere using instruments like flutes, but in Mr. Ono’s version, wind instruments came in from the middle. I was entranced and thought it ended up sounding mature.

It seems to have a unique sexiness that only Mr. Ono can bring.

Shinji: It really has a great sex appeal.

Aki: I simply listen to it over and over again. It’s the kind of voice that makes you addicted to it. We put a lot of thought into this song, as it was the first song we were going to sing for a major label. I wonder if he was conscious of that aspect of the song, because he sang it with such care. Moreover, Mr. Ono is a big name from the first song. I am very happy that someone like that sang this song.

As is the case with all the songs, I thought they had a different charm when compared to the original songs.

Aki: That’s right. It’s the same with Mr. Ono, but you can almost see the character... It’s really amazing. It’s like a way of singing that possesses you.

The song “Uso” from Fullmetal Alchemist was arranged on an acoustic guitar, and I think people who will hear it will be like “Wow”! Yuuya, who composed the song, what impression did you have when you heard Romi Park’s singing voice?

Yuuya: I was surprised. As was the case with all the voice actors, we had no prior information about what kind of atmosphere they would be singing in. I asked each of them to sing their own songs, and I left the arrangement to them. I was surprised from the very beginning with “Uso”. I was very surprised, but I thought, “Yes, that’s a good idea.”

I would love to hear this version of SID sometime.

Yuuya: I thought it was a good idea too. We had been doing acoustic shows during our fan meeting tour (“SID 20th Anniversary Premium FANMEETING TOUR 2023”) until a while ago. We performed “Uso” in that tour. It wasn’t like this one, but we did it in a quieter atmosphere, so even though it wasn’t close, I think it linked to that atmosphere as well.

I am sure it was just a coincidence that they were linked.

Yuuya: It’s a huge coincidence. We didn’t expect this version, and we didn’t expect to play an acoustic version of “Uso” either. I felt that SID’s fans who attended the fan meeting might have a lot to think about after listening to this tribute album. Also, I think the key is inherently higher for women who are higher in key to begin with. Nevertheless, I have the impression that she sang “Uso” in a very pleasant voice that is quiet and very easy on the ear, and that she sang it in a comfortable way.

We had not heard the voice actors’ voices before, so the voices we heard through the anime were the ones we knew. For example, in the case of “Monochrome Kiss,” I was under the impression that it sounded like Sebastian. But for “Uso”, I got the impression that it was a new voice rather than Ed’s, and that made it even better. I have the impression that she sang it well.

Mao: At the time, I was thinking of Ed and Al in “Fullmetal Alchemist,” and I wrote lyrics that had meaning for SID as well, overlapping images of the path they had taken, the pain they felt, and the scenery they saw. I think the lyrics have two sides to them, and I think they fit well with the image of the person who is closer to the anime. I could tell that the singers were thinking of the anime while they sang the song.

The third song is “Ranbu no Melody” from BLEACH sung by Masakazu Morita, who voices Ichigo Kurosaki.

Aki: I had been reading “BLEACH” for a long time before I got involved with it. I also watched the anime when it was made. I personally wanted to sing the theme song for “BLEACH” someday. Then we received a tie-up for “BLEACH” and I thought, “I definitely want to do this.” I liked other works that Mr. Morita was involved with, so I was very excited to have him sing “Ranbu no Melody” for us. Of course, all voice actors are like that, but I had a personal attachment to the song, so I listened to it with all my heart.

What other works did you like that Mr. Morita appeared in?

Aki: I was addicted to FINAL FANTASY X. It was so serious that I couldn’t believe it was a game, so I thought it was amazing, to the point where I was a little confused about my feelings. Most recently, he appeared in “Kingdom”. I heard Mr. Morita’s voice there, so I respect him as an amazing person.

Mr. Morita also made comments such as: “It’s an honor beyond my capacity”.

Aki: I read it. I’m very grateful. I really appreciate it. I felt the greatness of the voice actors, which is true for other songs as well. From our point of view, they are our seniors. They are wonderful people, so I am grateful.

The fourth song, “ANNIVERSARY” from Magi is sung by Haruka Tomatsu, who voices Morgiana.

Aki: “ANNIVERSARY” is the song that SID has done the most in the past year. The timing of the anniversary has been quite spotty. I am happy that it is also the song that will be included in the tribute under such circumstances.

I felt like a new “ANNIVERSARY” was born by Ms. Tomatsu’s singing voice.

Aki: Really. When someone other than us sings, it’s like a different song. It was as if someone else’s voice breathed new life into the song.

Mao: I think there is a good point in making a tribute work that is close to the image of the original, but there is also an interesting aspect in that it becomes a completely different work. In other words, when a male voice is replaced by a female voice, it goes in a completely different direction. The male voice is taken in a completely different direction by the female voice, and not only is it a different direction, but it also absorbs the original quality of the music. It was a song that you could feel that the singer had listened to the song many times and sang it.

I can feel it as only a vocalist can, and when I listened to the song… I felt that she had listened to the song a lot. I felt the love for the song, so I was really happy to hear her sing it.

A voice that would make you jealous as a vocalist

The fifth song, “Rasen no Yume” by Ayumu Murase as Mahmut from “Altair: A Record of Battles” was sung in a neutral voice, and I think this is also a really good song.

Mao: It was good. Rasen no Yume is one of SID’s more recent songs, so it was recorded after the band’s career had developed. I think there is such a good quality in SID’s original songs, but there is a freshness to it that is the complete opposite of that. I found myself thinking that this song really comes alive even with this kind of approach.

I thought the expression “freshness” is exactly the opposite.

Mao: It was a little frustrating because it was so killer. I thought, “I can’t deliver this killer sound”. (laughs)

Did you feel that way about any of the other songs?

Mao: Of course I felt frustrated, but in a good way. I still feel great about my voice. There are people who say to me, “You have a good voice,” too.

But of course!

Mao: But I think a good voice has a slightly different meaning for a voice actor. I think it’s pretty unfair that a voice actor has a cool singing voice, is cute, and is also good when he/she speaks (laughs). This time, a voice actor took on the challenge of singing vocals, which would be impossible for me even if I tried. I can feel the power of voice actors.

I have a feeling that you could do it, Mao…

Mao: No, no, that’s impossible (laughs).

Yuuya, what was your impression when you heard “Rasen no Yume”?

Yuuya: I was surprised by this too. As Mao said, I felt a different approach, or rather a different wave of … songs. I thought the indescribable, neutral voice was very addictive. And since he sang in the original key set that we are familiar with, I felt that my ears were drawn to his singing even more.

The next singer of “delete” from “The Seven Deadly Sins: Imperial Wrath of The Gods” was Sora Amamiya, who voiced Elizabeth. She had a very strong and powerful voice.

Aki: As you said, it was powerful and cool. She is very experienced at singing rock music. I was impressed by the way she sang, and I thought it was a wonderful take. I know this is a bit like what I said earlier, but I feel like she understood the world of the song before she sang it. The amount of passion is so great that it’s frightening.

Shinji: I think this song is originally a masculine song, but I was surprised how well it fits even when sung by a woman. As Mao-kun said earlier, it’s nice to hear someone with a good voice (laughs). I have never been told that I have a good voice, so I really envy them. I think that voice actors have been trained in many ways, but people who are born with a good voice are the ones I... feel jealous of (laughs).

In “Heaven Official’s Blessing” SID sang the opening and Ms. Amamiya sang the ending. I thought it was also neat that the next song was “Jiu no Kuchizuke”.

Shinji: Oh, that’s true. I think it was just a coincidence (laughs).

Shinji: He voiced Grelle Sutcliffe in Black Butler, right? As Yuuya mentioned earlier, I feel that Ms. Park’s singing voice is her own voice. But in “Jiu no Kuchizuke” I felt that Mr. Fukuyama’s voice is Saburo’s voice. Even if you listen to the song without being told, you can tell that it is Mr. Fukuyama’s voice. I think it is one of the strongest in the album.

Mao: The genre of this song is unique compared to the other songs, and his voice really matches the atmosphere of the song. Of course I sang the original song, but I felt that if Mr. Fukuyama had sung it originally, it would not sound out of place, so I felt that he made it his own. Also, when I listen to the song, I discover new things. Once I record a song, I tend to copy my own voice when I sing it later. But when someone else sings it for me, I realize that there is another way to sing it, or that it would be cool if I sang it that way. I learned a lot from it.

When I thought that the way a song is expressed can reveal a different world to it, I was once again reminded of the depth of the song and the goodness of the original song, and as I listened to it, I thought that the tribute songs are interesting.

Mao: It is interesting, isn’t it? I felt that by working in different environments, I was able to broaden the range of the songs when they were made into a single piece of music.

Fans = A gentle existence like a breeze

The “Soyokaze” (Breeze) single was released at the same time as the tribute album. The music composer of Soyokaze was Aki.

Aki: As for Soyokaze, I wanted to make it a song that would show each member of the band in the current style of the 20th anniversary of the band. I also wanted to create a melody that would be easy for everyone to sing along to.

What about the lyrics?

Mao: First of all, the title of the song “Breeze” came to me when I looked back on the 20 years of activities and thought: If I were to use one word to describe the existence of all our fans, what would that word be? SID was a band that started with four members exploring various things, so there were many different situations. There were times when we were riding a tailwind together and doing things at a high speed, and then there were times when the trials of being a vocalist hit us as a headwind... There have been many winds blowing, but when I stop and look back after 20 years, I see a gentle breeze like the light breeze in the eyes of our fans. I thought of all the fans’ eyes. Once I gave it that title, from there I just wrote what I was thinking. I tried to keep my expression straightforward.

The opening line: “A Hiace that holds nothing but dreams…” also brings a scene to mind. The Hiace is a familiar car for the band.

Mao: This could have been expressed in a different way. A van, for example. But I wanted to be specific to make it as straightforward as possible. That’s why I gave specific nouns. I used almost an entire phrase from the lyrics of “Binetsu”, a song I wrote a long time ago. I think it is only possible on the 20th anniversary of the band that we could do such a trick.

I was also impressed by your gentle voice in the last song “Soyokaze”.

Mao: Especially in the past three years, the whole world suffered from corona at the same time. We have had bad feelings in each of us, overcame hardships, and now we are living in the same era like this. When we celebrated SID’s 20th anniversary together, I wondered “What do we want now?”, and I felt that it would be words and music that... would gently watch over us, like a gentle breeze. I thought that this is the kind of song I want to deliver now, and I am sure everyone would like to hear it.

I am sure that this song will be a breeze for everyone. Lastly, I would like to ask each of you about your enthusiasm for the SID 20th Anniversary GRAND FINAL “Ichiban Sukina Basho” to be held at Nippon Budokan on December 27 (Wed).

Aki: I hope Budokan will be a stage where we can give back to our fans, to the people involved, and to the staff, and where people could feel the potential of the event. I hope you will have a great time with SID. I would like to give a cool performance that will make people want to continue to have a good time with SID.

Shinji: As Aki mentioned, everyone has a common feeling of gratitude toward the fans and staff after 20 years of their support. It is difficult to repay a favor, but I think the best way to repay a favor is for the four of us to be cool and show it. I hope to prepare well and show the best of SID.

Yuuya: This will be the last Nippon Budokan for our 20th anniversary. I’m also very enthusiastic because it will be our first solo performance at Budokan in a very long time, and since we have passed the corona pandemic and have been allowed to use our voice this year, I would like to receive as much cheering from everyone at Nippon Budokan as I have over the years.

Mao: I am enthusiastic about it, but in a sense, I want to stand on stage as naturally as possible without being enthusiastic. I have stood on various stages in the past, and each time I have run with the thought, “I am going to make this live a success!” I think now is the best time for me to express myself in my natural state. I just want to enjoy myself in a natural way, and I am sure that the fans will take me to a wonderful place and a wonderful stage as usual. I have high expectations and am looking forward to it.

Paramedic AU no one asked for

Here’s chapter one, and I did go ahead and make it PeterPatterLina.

Warning ⚠️: mentions of car accident

Reggie jumped out as soon as Alex stopped the ambulance, running right over to the site of the accident, Luke right behind him. Luke hurried to the older man standing outside his car while Reggie rushed to the beautiful young woman standing with her young son beside the other vehicle. She looked relatively unharmed but the boy had several shards of glass in his arm.

“ Hi there, I’m Reggie,” he offered his hand for the woman to shake, “ I’m a paramedic, and we’re gonna get you and this little guy here all fixed up.”

“ I’m Julie. Thank you.”She shook his hand, voice weak and frightened.

“ Nice to meet you Julie, though I wish it were under better circumstances. I promise you I’m gonna do everything in my power to make sure you’re both gonna be ok.” Then he bent down to her little boy. “ Hi there buddy, what’s your name?”

“ Sebastian,” the little boy replied shyly.

“ Hi Sebastian, my name is Reggie and I’m here to help you. It looks like you’ve got some glass in your arm. If you and your Mama can come over with me to my ambulance we’ll get you all fixed up, ok buddy?”

Sebastian nodded and Reggie flashed him a reassuring smile.

“ Perfect. Can I pick you up? I promise I’ll be careful of that arm.”

When the little boy nodded again he scooped him gently into his arms and lead Julie over to the ambulance.

“ You’re being super brave little guy, you’re not even crying! You must be really strong.”

He continued talking to Sebastian as he carried him, and Julie was impressed by how good he was at keeping him distracted.

Luke met them at the ambulance. “ Mr. Jenkins is going to be just fine ma’am. Can I go ahead and get you checked out?”

“ I’m really ok.” Julie replied, nervously watching Reggie and her son.

“ I’m glad to hear that ma’am but it’s standard procedure that we check you over to make sure of that, though if you would rather wait until we get done with your son first that would be ok.”

“ Yes please, thank you.”

“ Of course ma’am, and my name is Luke. I promise that you are both in good hands.”

“ Ok Sebastian, my friend Luke here,” Luke interjected a hello with a little wave and a bright, reassuring smile to match Reggie’s, “ is gonna help me get all the glass out of your arm, ok?” When the little boy agreed Reggie continued.

“ Awesome, so I’m gonna need you to be really brave for me. Let your mama hold that hand, and give me your other one, ok? Great, so I need you to keep your eyes on me, cause if you try to watch Luke it might get kinda scary. I promise you that he’s gonna be really gentle, all he’s gonna do is get the glass out and get your arm bandaged up. You ready to get started?” Sebastian looked wide eyed at his mom for a moment and Julie smiled at him. “ You can trust these nice guys sweet boy, they’re trained to help people, it’s gonna be alright carino.”

“ Ok.”

“ Alright that’s perfect buddy. If it starts to hurt you can squeeze my hand really really tight, as tight as you need, but try to keep that arm really still for me alright? That’s perfect.” Reggie nodded to Luke. “ Hey Sebastian I really like your Star Wars shirt! Is Han Solo your favorite character?”

“ No, I like Obi Wan Kenobi.”

“ Oh yeah? He’s super awesome, and really brave! Is he how you learned to be so brave?”

“ Yeah, I like his lightsaber.”

“ Ooo yeah, I do too. What color would you want your lightsaber?”

“ I want a green one.”

“ Me too little dude. Try and keep that arm real still for me. You can squeeze my hand as tight as you need buddy, it’s ok. You’re doing so good. You too mama.” Reggie smiled at Julie, lifting his other hand to brush a tear off of Sebastian’s face.

“ Sorry,” Sebastian said, a few more tears falling.

“ Oh sweet boy it’s ok to cry. We’re just almost done and you’ve done amazing! Let’s talk about Star Wars some more ok? Who’s your favorite droid?”

“R2-D2,” the little boy sniffled, as Luke wrapped the bandage around his arm.

“ R2’s my favorite too. And we’re all done, you did really really good! I think you would make a great Jedi Sebastian, can I get a high five? Yeah, there we go. I’m gonna give you a real quick checkup while Luke does the same for your Mama. Can you give her a big hug so that she can be brave too?”

Julie couldn’t help the smile on her face, she mouthed a thank you to Reggie who simply nodded at her, flashing a crooked smile that sat just right on his freckled face in a way that made her blush, noticing the way his green eyes sparkled. She smiled at Luke, noting that he was just as cute, though trying to ignore the way his rolled up sleeves showed off his strong arms. Luke asked her questions to make sure her cognitive function was in order, “ What’s your name ma’am?”

“ Julie Molina.”

“ A beautiful name for a beautiful lady. My name is Luke by the way.”

“ So I’ve heard,” she giggled, blush increasing.

He used a light to make sure her pupils dilated properly, checked her pulse, and made sure she could move normally, and once he was sure she was ok, flashed her a smile that almost rivaled the one from Reggie. Almost, not quite, she thought. “ Looks like you’re good to go. Is there anyone you need us to call? Your husband maybe?”

“No, it’s just us. My dad is on his way here. Thank you.”

“ Of course Julie. Hopefully if I see you again, it will be under better circumstances. Try and have a better evening, alright?”

She smiled back at him, shaking his hand. She turned to Sebastian who was holding an inflated glove with a smiley face and giggling with Reggie.

“ You ready to go, Amorcito?” She ruffled his hair, “ Papi is here,” she pointed toward Ray.

“ Yeah! Look mommy, Reggie made me a smiley balloon!”

“ Oh that’s so cool! Go show Papi.” She giggled, pushing the boy toward Ray who waved at her, smiling as his Grandson ran into his arms.

“ Thank you again, you were really great with him.”

“ Absolutely ma’am, this is my job after all. He really was brave, and Star Wars is easy to talk about.” Reggie shrugged good-naturedly, shooting her the same smile. “ You’re raising a good kid.”

“Thank you, that means a lot.”

“ Have a better evening Julie. Go be with your family.”

Julie nodded at him, then walked to her father and her son.

Reggie and Luke jumped back into the ambulance, letting Alex know they were good to go. They were both too distracted to notice Alex’s knowing smile, the dazed look in Luke’s eyes, or the pink tint of Reggie’s cheeks.
