I really cannot reiterate enough how jarring re-watching the x files has been in regard to just how different everyone looks as compared to the modern tv shows I'm used to- Scully has eyebags and visible freckles, sometimes her hair is a bit fizzy- Mulder has chest hair and forehead wrinkles, characters will sometimes have red marks or pimples, they actually cast women in their 40s and 50s as side characters who look their age rather than having a severe amount of work and make-up and lighting done, frequently they're still framed in a desirable way, people's hair looks so much more normal and natural, not always perfectly primped- it's so... nice. comforting.
we were so close to having a generation of little black girls grow up without ever experiencing relaxers but now I'm not so sure. Everywhere on social media, women but mostly teenage girls complain about their natural hair, begging for tips on how to "relax" and "texturise" it, whatever that means. Even the language used is so telling, damaging your hair is not "relaxing" it.
And it's not just the damage done to your hair, relaxer use can increase risk of uterine cancers and fibroids, but this very real danger is ignored. I know it doesn't help that the natural hair movement that was meant to finally help us feel accepted, has been overtaken. But for a moment around 2015, I really thought we had seen the back of relaxers.
unrelated to last post, ive been drawing a bit latley, but i dont have much since the doodles since i do those on vc skflsgjl
in the first image is my fursona, melbunny, just incase anyone was curious:) bald bull is one of my favorites from punch out right now, so im holding him up!
Dethvanity is really funny to me conceptually as an episode because you can see how little they had to make the characters insecure about for the bit. They swing for obvious lowblow choices with Pickle' baldness and Nathan's weight and even those require some suspension of disbelief because ok. Sure. Nathan '(said extremely proudly) never skipped a meal in my life!' Explosion is insecure about being a big man now. Nathan *guy who everyone thinks is smoking hot 99% of the time* Explosion is a tiny bit larger than usual and is insecure about it now. Lol. Lmao even.
But anyway then we hit Skwisgaar and Toki and there's like NOTHING to swing for, you can see them going uhhh ok Skwis doesn't sleep he probably drinks a lot of coffee, and Toki? Shit, what does Toki have to be insecure about with his looks. He's perfect, he's adorable, he's ripped. Um. FUCK IT, HE'S DOING NOTHING BUT EATING LEMONS. WE GOT NOTHING, WE GOT NOTHING, JUST GIVE THE BOY CITRUS FRUITS.
WOE 🍋 BE UPON YE
I'm sure i could make some smarter points about the attempts at applying vanity in this ep and how outside of this and a few other moments i do actually like that the show rarely takes pot shots at things like Nathan's weight, but you see Nathan has shirtless scenes in this one and so my intelligence is impeded when all the blood rushes out of my head and into my-
One of our cats, Baby Squeaks, has had chronic allergies and overgrooming issues for years now, and we're starting him on a new med for it all, BUT to help in the meantime he has cat onesies we put him in so he can't overgroom especially at night when we're sleeping.
Except he learned how to peel himself in this one by reaching back, biting the Velcro, and pulling it.
So this was my solution for the day until I get around to putting a button on it. A big paper clip.
i kinda love just how often art looks like absolute hot garbage from a dumpster until it's like... 90% done. because after spending so long hating it, and pushing yourself to trust the process, and muscling through the insecurity and discomfort, that moment when it finally COMES TOGETHER??? is so bloody glorious, it makes all of that itching feeling so worth it.
like this applies to just about anything I think (maybe more to things with a visual- or tactile component, but I can see it for written media as well) but right now it's is specifically about an amigurumi doll i'm making-- and for like the last three hours i've been working on it, it's been looking like a horrible little old man, a nightmare-realm chibi-version of Geri-from-Pixar-fame, and the second i placed the first little chunk of hair over the forehead, it became instantly adorable, and I can't wait to show off the finished thing ❤️
period wasnt verstappen.com aiming to have 2 cars running in gt3 by 2025 how much u wanna bet that as we speak bro is thinking about saying fuck it and being inside 1 of them
