personal taste is so weird… the fact that i LOVE symbolism, but a story has to strike the right balance of symbolism to character meat for it to actually Get Me. i LIKE on-the-nose metaphors and silly, overwritten dialogue and find it charming, but ONLY if the story Gets Me, otherwise it’s unnecessarily patronizing. my subjective opinions are a mystery even to myself.

I’m sure this has been translated before, but as the brand new owner of a BA in classics, I jumped in excitement hearing Ancient Greek spoken on Buffy. The subtitling’s a bit funky, but I’m pretty sure this is what it’s attempting to transliterate:

ὁ Κύριος φανεῖται ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτί.

Which means, “The Master will appear on this night.” The word I’m most unsure of here is κύριος, as it’s the one thing significantly mispronounced by Giles, but it’s the only possibility that really makes sense to me. κύριος (kyrios) is frequently used in the New Testament, usually to refer to Jesus. You may recognize it from the prayer “Kyrie eleison.” In an episode where Buffy is heavily paralleled to Jesus, the use of it to describe the Master is interesting.

So… what was the point of the reveal of Tyme’s mum’s diary at the end of EP 7?

I was expecting the diary to contain more big revelations during the final episode that would impact the story, but I guess it was just a shorthand way to resolve Tyme’s parents arc during his ‘4 Minutes Experience’ with this apology for their actions. I don’t think Tyme mentioned them again, so presumably this was supposed to be enough to reconcile this thread… I guess?!
