#so lol i'll probably have a male side character at some point

Idk how to phrase this but if we gotta have generic hetero ending for Deku, it would be with someone like, Melissa or smth or some other unknown lady, it would still be shit, but plausible in a way
Bc the amount of love Hori gives tgchk i find it hard to believe he's just totally oblivious to that complicated poetic lesbo drama romance lol
It's funny you bring up Melissa because I did just watch "Two Heroes" hours earlier.
Like, Togachaco has all of that going on, how could Midoriya get with Uraraka?
I'll be honest, I don't hate IzuOcha, I don't have a loathing for it compared to some ships I do have one for. I think it's cute, I see why people would ship it.
But it's very undeveloped in canon and I feel like it's on purpose. I wrote a post for it so long ago somewhere...
I also feel like the whole "crush" thing could be seen as something else. Wrote a post for that, too. And that's not to say Uraraka having a crush on Midoriya is a bad thing, I don't think it is. (Some people will think I'm saying it is, has happened before, person just didn't read the post and wanted to be an ass.)
And it's not like Horikoshi is incapable of making a romantic/very close it could be romantic bond between male and female characters.
KiriMina is an example! Hell, Kamijiro is another.
It's why I say romantically in canon, IzuOcha is underdeveloped and probably on purpose.
It just feel so one-sided. They're good friends, yes. The ship itself isn't bad.
But let's be for real here.
Uraraka offered her blood to Toga. You know else did that?
Midoriya did the same to Bakugou in "Heroes Rising", the OG ending for the manga. Hmmm...
Oh, but you know who else?! Two girls where there's a blonde and a brunette where blood was shared when they were kids and they had a close relationship and there was a bi "bloodsucker" between the two and they're were enemies at some point, yet the other still cared for the other one?
Where have I...? Oh!!!
Jennifer's Body, anyone?

For no reason other than I like the sound of my own voice (...sight of my own typed words...?) here's the character dynamics in 18trip that have managed to intrigue me from just the promotional content. Some shippy, some not. In no particular order
Akuta and Kiroku. Oh my gooodddd the sunny one and the gloomy one are friends... No way... And the way Kiroku smiles so softly when he talks about depending on Akuta for support!?!?!? Adorable!?!?!?
Tumblr media
These two were simply made for the softest silliest slice of life shipfics. You know in your heart that they should be written walking around town getting ice cream together and having almost-confessions that get interrupted by a seagull stealing Kiroku's ice cream so Akuta tries to chase it down and get the ice cream back.
Renga and Liguang. They seem to have a bit of a rivalry going. Renga in general seems real fun as a character since he's trying so hard to be such a haughty celeb but even in his two minute interview he failed so bad at it, fumbling over his words and struggling to do basic celebrity things (bro you should be able to give some fanservice lol? The high schoolers are beating your ass). Love the bit about how he wants to live up to part ward mayors, he seems like a guy who desperately wants to be more than he is but doesn't know how to. Liguang is said to be the type who sees through facades to discern someone's competence, so there's so doubt that's why he's zeroed in on Renga. Excited to see where that goes--I hope we get Liguang tearing Renga to pieces so that Renga can build himself back up more confidently. That kind of dynamic can be super fun.
Kafka, Yukikaze, and the MC. I love that the MCs have a preexisting relationship with Kafka and Yukikaze. And it's both of them! Because they're siblings! I love that! Kafka can absolutely be a childhood friend for both of them! And obviously Yukikaze would be a cousin to both of them LMAO. (I don't know if we have concrete ages for the MCs, other than the male MC Kaede being older than the female MC Momiji, but I thiiink--just to make the writing smoother between gender choices--they'll probably put both of them in the 21-24 range between Kafka (20) and Yukikaze (25). I'd guess Kaede is 23 and Momiji is 22 bc again, the closer in age they are the more similarly they can be written so it's just for the sake of expedience, but I'm pulling these numbers out of my ass.)
ANYWAYS, ages provisionally established because those few years gain a bit more importance when you deal with characters who knew each other as kids... about the dynamic--Kafka's quotes in his quiz results MAKE this one. He likes the MC lots ("you're my number one, too", "guess I'll have to plan a strategy to become your number one") to the point that he's competitive about it with Yukikaze, their older cousin. Just, ohmygod, sickly little Kafka who cares about his childhood best friends so much, watching them look at their successful pro figure skater older cousin in awe, hoping to god they'll look at him with that much admiration and affection, and when a risky surgery finally saves him and he can get out there and be successful--he'll do anything to get his friends to look up to him the same way he used to look up to them, the way he saw them look up to Yukikaze--IT'S GETTING TO ME. We don't know how Yukikaze feels about any of this, but I kinda suspect it's a one-sided rivalry on Kafka's part lol. We'll see, it could be fun if it's a mutual rivalry for Kaede & Momiji's affection too. Also, mentioning it at the end since I know it squicks a lot of people, but the "cousin as first love" trope prevails in Japanese media, so there's also a reading of this situation wherein Kafka sees Yukikaze as a romantic rival. If this game takes off you will certainly see doujinshi where it's a love triangle lol. Since both siblings are around I like the idea of Kafka having a bisexual crisis because he realizes he's in love with BOTH the Hamasaki siblings, WHAT DOES HE DOOOO!! The more I write about Kafka the more I like him.
Muneuji and Ushio. I mean, I just spent way too much time talking about some childhood friends so I'm certainly not going to ignore the OTHER childhood friends. I like how both of them play around a bit with gendered expectations, with Muneuji looking feminine and speaking softly but wanting to hide his appearance entirely via his interests (space), while Ushio looks and acts like a rough lil delinquent but his main interest is being a patissier and fudanshi. Oh my god they're narrative foils, ykwim. Other than them depending on each other lots, we haven't seen how their dynamic will play out, so I'm interested to see how that goes. Like, does Ushio take Muneuji's helmet quirk in stride? Does he try to make him remove it, or maybe the opposite and will protect him from the fangirl helmet-removal gang to get his helmet back on? Either could be cute! We'll see! Oh, and I'm not sure how to word it, but there's also something I like about how their interests clash--space is, while, space, it's out there, can't get much farther from earth than space, and Muneuji engages with it by hiding himself and separating himself from the world. Sweets on the other hand are very much an in-your-body thing, forcing you to sit down and experience your own senses and be a part of the world. There's something nice that could be done with that contrast. Basically, what I'm saying is that if you wrote a BL about just these two, it could be SO thematically rich.
Toi and Ryui.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. Also on top of the codependency their theming goes crazy. An angel fortune teller with psychic acuity and a devilish charm-maker who's possessed by a ghost... Bro...
Nanaki and Kuguri. WHAT IS GOING ON BETWEEN THEM THAT NANAKI CALLS HIM KUGU-NII
Tumblr media
KUGU-NII?? KUGU-NII?!?!?!?!?!? LIKE ok Nanaki is a musician from a musical family and Kuguri is an accomplished pianist. So it's not hard to imagine how they met. But becoming close enough that Nanaki relies on him and calls him Kugu-nii... Oh my god... I need to know...
Lightning round "character pairs I'm excited see interact but I have either very little or no basis at all for wanting that"
Nagi and anyone. I like Nagi. I like how he makes jokes with a flat affect. I want him to say strange things to people.
Netaro and anyone in day2. He's weird. I want him to interact with the children just for funnies. Especially Muneuji, I wanna see how the space kid and the alien get along.
Kafka and Toi. It's interesting that Kafka likes fortune telling. I won't psychoanalyze him about it again, but I could.
Netaro and Kinari. It's the engineer and the android and I need it. TEAR THAT ROBOT APART! PULL HIS GUTS OPEN AND SEE WHATS INSIDE!!!!!!
Chihiro and Toi. Toi's admiration for Chii is adorable. I wanna see how Chii interacts with a fan.
Chihiro and Ryui. Ryui, you're allowed to kill Chii if you get jealous of how much your brother likes him. I give you permission.
Liguang and Yukikaze. I want Liguang to treat this professional athlete who's older than him like a pet bunny. Who said that
Yodaka and Liguang. I like that they play mahjong together.
Yodaka and Netaro. I think if they talked the conversation would very very quickly leave the realm of the waking world and would simply not be comprehensible to outsiders. But they understand.
And ok eh yeah that's enough for now. Who knows if any of these will end up going how I'm thinking about them, or if more sides to the characters will be revealed that change my assumptions :)

I'd give you 5$ if you post that draft
you didn't even need to bribe. it's not actually in the drafts of this blog so i'll write a better version
i've said it a billion times before: tsukasa is the comedic relief weirdguy, the devs basically will do anything with him so long as it's funny.
so starting with that valentine's day vlive in 2021. during the MC part of that he gets jealous that rui has been getting chocolates and tries to brag that he got lots of chocolates too but then immediately reveals that he got friendzoned by multiple girls. his voiceline that year is something about how he catches everyone's attention on vday and year round bc he's a star or something like that but anyway that whole interaction there seems to suggest he's straight lol.
however.
he's REALLY oblivious. played for comedy ofc but i see a lot of people interpret this as him being somewhere on the aro spectrum (probably not what the writers intended but fair instance of accidentally coding a character as smth). examples include: not understanding why Akito doesn't want to be seen at PXL alone with Toya in an Akito's initial 3* (second story), literally says "thank you" when Asahi basically confesses to him and completely misses the point (he actually did seem to nearly get this one for a second), and he doesn't understand why Rui's friends are impressed that he's friends the incredibly attractive Shizuku (Tsukasa is the only not-gay-coded male character who isn't attracted to Shizuku, probably because they're childhood friends. or if you want to view him as being aspec, then that works too). also when he mentions that he's friends with guys in his class who are cool and popular and good with women, Hibiki says that he was in a class with one of those guys in 1st year and is amazed that tsukasa is in that crowd now, emphasis on the "tsukasa's friends are good with women part". tsukasa's just confused about that because of course they talk to girls a lot they're in the same class.
also he usually rewrites a lot of romance plays to remove the romance. he rewrote R&J to just make it focused on the action (which is probably because he likes playing action heroes more than anything else), and he got rid of the romance plot in little mermaid because he didn't felt it was needed (this one is justified in-universe as they do fun shows for small children and don't really need the tragic romance, and also from production standpoint like you don't do that because fandom). so yeah that could again be read as him being aspec if you want but i don't think the writers intended it to be read that way, especially the R&J one that was purely for comedy.
all that said, this is an idol game, which generally run on the rule of thumb that every character is some flavour of queer, even if it's just for fanservice (i don't play enstars but from what i do know of it it falls a bit on that last point). anyway you can probably tell where this is going but he gets ship tease with rui sometimes. vast majority of this is from Rui's side but there are things like Oki ni Mesu mama
Tsukasa: Waiting for the "1, 2…" signal, holding hands with you is an act of courage for me
or that one part in pandemonium where he drops his persona for a brief second when he's impressed by rui's plan that was very much put there on purpose, or that Tsukasa and Airi's cheerful carnival team name from that event is "swayed by their partners (相方, aikata)" and when you consider that Shizuku and Airi are heavily implied to like each other, and have canonically been on a "date", that was also a Choice.
idk whether to count KING because justified by them being actors and the fang motif in the song... vampires kinda homoerotic it makes sense that the dance routine was that. also i'm not sure if the connect lives are even canon, especially the wxs one since tokishun broke character and the 4th wall.
yeah i dunno. the writers kinda just do whatever they want with him. interpret any of this how you will i'm just recounting shit from the game.
oh hey it's longer than 300 words now

Everyone are having doubts do you still believe in byler endgame and if you do how you think will be? Not what do you wants but what really will happens knowing the duffer and how they write the show.
Hey anon, thank you for the ask!
As far as Byler goes, I'm still at the same point I've been this entire time...I honestly and truly believe that the writing has hinted at, suggested, alluded to it being real. I h lol ave personally been on the "wrong" side of a different major fandom (which I won't mention here)---ridiculed, called crazy, obsessive etc--to then have everything we had claimed from the beginning be proven true in the final act. If you want to know what I'm talking about you can probably figure it out from my profile or you can message me and I'll go on that rant in private lol.
Either way, my point is.....everything that is happening in this fandom...mimics that one entirely. It is a fandom that is dominated by a generally male, white, hetero-normative point of view. And so I think it's easy to lose hope, it's easy to give in to those people telling you that you're crazy for seeing what you're seeing.
But what it comes down to in the end is, most of us have been here since season 2. Most of us have been noticing the hints for years. And after season three, I'm not really sure what people are looking at if they are not seeing the complicated relationship that Mike has with El and Will. It is a canon fact that he cannot balance them emotionally. When one is in his life, the other is out. Season 3 proved that when they are both in his life at the same time, he cannot make it work. When he is paying attention to El, he is hurting Will. When he is paying attention to Will, he is hurting El. And this all comes to a head in season 4.
And season 4 is interesting to me because once again, El is (after a few episodes) quickly removed from Will and Mike's immediate story line. Mike, once again, ends up with Will in situations that make them work together. Situations that make them be emotionally vulnerable with each other. Situations that allow them to become closer.
I firmly believe that there is a reason, besides Mike being emotionally stunted by his family, that he can't say "i love you" to El. I think that the writers' had specific intentions when they wrote Mike's "love confession" to El as a direct response to Will's emotions. I firmly believe that if I was supposed to be rooting for El and Mike to be together, I as an audience member, would have been given a private, softly lit, romantically coded emotional scene between Mike and El post "2 days later". But we didn't. The softly lit, emotional, intimate moment we got? Was with Will.
Furthermore, El and Will have been directly paralleled since season one and since season 2 both of their storylines have directly revolved around Mike. And one character, Will, has been the one that has been show to need and want Mike in the way that he needs to be needed and wanted. Will has been the character that specifically benefits from Mike's attention and love. El's journey has always been for herself. It has always been figuring out where she belongs in the world and claiming her autonomy from Brenner (and Henry and many others).
As for how I believe the Duffer's will accomplish this? I have as good a guess as the rest of you. I am just a humble fan. But from the context clues that we've been given throughout the show....I have a hunch that El and Will will discover some sort of connection between the two of them. This connection will probably directly relate to the pull they feel towards Mike. I think that El will continue her journey from season 4 of self-discovery and standing on her own two feet, rejecting the men (people) around her who tell her they know what she wants/needs/desires. I think that Will will have his "coming of age". He will finally accept himself for who he is. I think it will be revealed that Will has some sort of direct connection to either the Upside Down or Henry himself. I think that he is the "cure" or the "key" to healing what has been broken. I really love the "wonder twin" idea that Will and El will work together to defeat Vecna.
And finally, I think that Mike, the knight, the paladin, the heart of the party....he'll finally realize where his heart truly lies. And Will, understanding that his love is reciprocated, that their love is true. I really think it will, in some way, (even if it's one small working part in the huge machine that is Stranger Things), help defeat the evil that has reigned over Hawkins for too long.
Maybe I'm too much of a romantic. But I'm gonna continue to believe it until I'm proven wrong. I will be the first to admit defeat as it comes, but for me....
There are just too many parallels, hints, subtext etc. for me to believe anything else at this point. I don't think the Duffer Brothers are pulling our leg, I don't believe they are trying to queerbait us, I don't believe they made this show for the people of Reddit and Facebook. I truly think, when they said it was for the "outsiders" and the "misunderstood" they meant it. And imo, Byler is a real part of that that will be made clear in the final act.
Let's hope we're right! <3

ROLEPLAY PARTNER NEEDED! 11-2-23
In search of a long term, flexible, consistent roleplay partner.
21+. I'm in my late twenties so I need someone that can match my energy and not be childish and ghost for no good reason.
I write in third person or first person. Either or, I try to match my partners with everything they give.
I'm looking for the Fandom Teen Wolf— I wouldn't mind discussing original plots and characters though, if you're completely OPEN to alot of different things.
I prefer the female role, I've been burned far too many times in the past with doubling. Some people in the roleplay community really lack the ability to play equally.
I will be open to doubling up if you give each side the same attention. Keep in mind if you don't, I'll match your energy with your side, and eventually let you go.
I'm looking for someone to play Derek Hale and Scott McCall against my female OC.
I can play anyone from the Fandom, but Stiles Stilinski and Isaac Lahey are my specialty.
Please be comfortable with all aspects of drama. I have little to no limits but will respect your triggers, though some things might be a deal breaker. Your IRL morals shouldn't be effected by a fictional story— (R*pe, suicide, abuse is completely understandable though and I'd never hold that against you!) I'm talking more along the lines of, IF you don't like kids and shit in a rp, cheating, love triangles, etc. Then I'm probably not the partner for you. I have enough fluff in my daily life, I don't want the same for my rp life LOL. Consistent romance/vanilla stiff gets boring for me.. at least on my end. But if that's what you prefer for YOUR SIDE. I'll do it all the time. But the same effort better be reciprocated for my side when it comes to drama otherwise we won't be compatible.
I'll respect your reasonable limits/triggers.
My limits are — Bathroom play, incest (This is negotiable!) and deep pedophilia. (Won't do anything under 17.)
My OCs are people of color and considered plus sized in society's eyes.
I'm LGBTQ friendly.
I'm POC friendly.
I hope we can be friends outside of roleplay.
I prefer female partners, I've had bad experiences with Males in the past.
I'm married and a mom so my personal life comes first, however I send multiple replies a day and want someone on the same wave length as me when it comes to rapid fire/replying a few times a day.
I understand life happens though abd at that point, communication is key.
I'm not ghost friendly, we're grown, communicate so we can part ways cordially.
I'm in other Fandoms, just ask and we'll discuss it.
Discord is my preferred method of communication/ roleplay.
I make organized servers and use Tupperbox.
Please don't be afraid to reach out, I promise I'm very friendly and easy going!
My writing style is 2-3 paragraphs, I'm all about quality over quantity, but I won't accept anything less than 2 paragraphs, and most of the time I write until nitro kicks in.
If you've made it this far, great!
Hope to hear from you soon!
My timezone is GMT-5.

Araki knows how to write female characters? I barely see him and Oda in mentions of their female characters in manga discourses when it comes to good female characters.
Hi anon, haha sorry for my lack of energy.
Warning: Long text SA mentions, little spoilers from Jojolion.
Uh that's a good one, honestly both Oda and Araki fall into the same issue about it but when they cook, they cook (or at least is what I have noticed from Oda, since I'm in 305 chapter of One Piece, so I can't tell you how much he fails or gets better).
Let's start with Araki, In general, there are never mentions of Jojo in the tops or compilations of good aspects of some Mangas, better protagonists, best character designs, etc. Because still people refuse to see Jojos in any serious way (okay, Jojo isn't 100% serious, it's bizarre) and others refuse to watch it because of its art style.
That said, Araki fails miserably with female character during part 1-4.
He fails but not in the bad way like only uses their female characters for fanservice, but as useless or from background or encourage male protagonists.
Erina and Lisa Lisa are maybe the exceptions, but again fails, Araki was clear that Erina was Jonathan's love interest and at the same time played with the dynamics, giving Speedwagon the role that in theory should have been Erina since that role was given to the women who were the girlfriends of the protagonist, he already did Gorgeous Irene as a protagonist and fighter, why didn't he gave Erina more role if he wanted to change the roles in his story? Because he wasn't that great at times, same with Lisa Lisa, looks like an attempt to have a strong character with more than a role than just a lover, but fails miserably at the end, giving Joseph all the attention instead of a fight between both Lisa Lisa and Joseph vs Kars, sucks because he gave more of that chance towards a N@zi 💀. I'm not even going to elaborate on part 3 bc it's too obvious.
Part 4, even tho has more female characters, none of them has relevance. Yukako was totally wasted, like her only role was to be a simp for Koichi, she didn't help at all. Reimi just was like a storyteller to give context towards the protagonists rather than useful character, of course even her own trauma is just there, same with Tomoko and Shinobu. Basically all pawns to fulfill or help the male characters.
Now, being a little fair, Araki fucked off the same with male characters, specially in part 4 and 5, but come on, even the Hazamada guy had more screen time than Tomoko and Araki just left her there to be completely in love with Joseph and for what? 😭 That sucks and it's sad.
In part 7 and 8, we actually have more good side characters, but again most of them wasted, literally Jojolion has more female characters than in stone ocean and yet Yasuho is the only one with importance.
Now the fanservice, what can I say? At this point is impossible to escape from it, only Metal alchemist and Attack on titan didn't and is oh so wonderful🥰, also Araki didn't with Jolyne so I'll take that as an apology from what he did to other female characters, lol.
And finally with that issues about SA scenes and mentions, the thing is that with Lucy, Trish or Dragona (probably they aren't a she, tho but let's count them.) seems more like a thing that happens a lot due to the context, specially with Lucy. Like real life issues that Araki has show up with other characters.
My problem is with Yasuho, like okay, she is vulnerable as every other woman, but some of the contexts she wents through are more implied in a funny context and it's something I dislike a lot, like that time Joshu almost rapes her, the touches that Tsurugi gives to her are so icky (I know he is a kid, but that doesn't make it any less creepy, Emporio was also a kid and didn't do that weird shit to Jolyne).
That's my only complain, uh I can see why ppl gets annoyed or disgusted with Lucy or Dragona SA situations and I understand it, but also saying that they have to gain some kind of lesson or something good from it is pathetic as if SA situations are only for that when in real life you only get trauma, not some kind of development. Perhaps, if there should be a Pov about their feelings and fears, how is going through SA and how affects the characters and their mechanisms to protect themselves, but okay I can ask for much in a Shonen manga when fights and powers are more relevant ig:/
As I said when Araki wants, he can cook a good female character like Jolyne, Lucy, Yasuho, Kaato, Trish and Mitsuba. This doesn't mean that other minors female characters are bad, just wasted. The only I mentioned some of them doesn't have great impact but with the role they get they make it work.
Now with Oda, his issue is about the way he draws female character, lots of fanservice and the anime doesn't help. At least Araki gives more different looks on his characters, Oda doesn't, lol. Must of them have the same face as Nami, and again due to the fanservice and how long One piece is, ppl don't take it seriously, another issue is that even though there's incredible powerful females, they're never enough as good as the males, even the only female character that was better than Zoro died 😭. Now that I think about it, Araki hasn't give this powerful stands to his female characters, not as powerful as GER or C-moon type.
Returning with the one piece, as far as I can see Oda actually writes good female characters! Nami and Robin are simply incredible, and as far as I know big mom is also a wonderful and good well character.
For me, Nami and Jolyne are one of the most stronger female characters in the Manga and media, next to Maki from Jujutsu no kaisen and Korra from avatar.

Potion Permit Review
Okay, so. As previously noted, Potion Permit consumed the past two weeks of my life. (This reminds me of when I played Return to PoPoLoCrois, and, same thing - was balls deep in it for 2 weeks bc it made my brain go brrrr). As a fan of most HM games, even the less popular ones, I really enjoyed this overall. So it has a Stardew graphic style mixed with the overworld combat of RF, and this is my review(ish) of the Switch version. Pros.
GREAT controls. I never at any point felt anything was tedious or difficult to engage with (outside of the grow box maybe?) It was very simplistic and stream-lined.
Cute/fun minigames. Nothing gets frantic or taxing. The Potion making is honestly really fun.
Decent Music. It's nice background music the way, I guess, ACNH has nice soothing background music. Nothing is a bop like HM/RF tunes but that's fine.
Good Male romance candidates - I feel like the 4 boys available to romance are all diverse enough to appease most everyone's tastes. Xiao is my husbando but I know a lot of people will go for Matheo or Victor (and I'll probably go for Victor if i ever play a boy file).
Interesting enough side characters. Nothing groundbreaking-ly unique but I did get a sense of community from the town of Moonbury, at least. and wanted to befriend everyone/know their story.
Pretty good pacing. At least for me, I never felt overwhelmed even when taking on numerous side quests. Outside of healing patients, nothing had a timeframe which was nice because it really did let you go at your own pace. CONS
No weather changes? I felt this could have really added to the game in terms of immersion even if it didn't affect anything gameplay-wise.
In that vein, no seasons. Again, it would be something I'd like to see expanded upon if there's a sequel. It would feel more like time is passing and therefore adding to the immersion.
Meh Female Romance Candidates - again, this is just personal taste but I did not like any of the available women - some of them, in fact, I outright disliked (Helene). Leano was the only okay one but she felt a bit too gimmicky with the pirate thing. And I don't even know why Rue was an option. I would have taken Bubble and Runehart happily over Rue and Helene.
Some of the topics presented in the side/character quests fell flat for me. I give PP kudos for trying, for touching on things like eating disorders, anxiety, and DID but the way a lot of it was easily resolved/hand-waved away felt big oof. Like I didn't feel the poor execution was for lack of trying, at least.
Not enough Collin and Moira lol.
Biggest con for me was not being able to romance Lucke. I really hope they make him and the aforementioned girls, as well as Dean and Derrek available... some day...
So overall I would recommend the game if you want something charming to mindlessly put 30-40 hours into. But there's a lot of loose ends that, for me, don't make it as compulsively replayable as RF/SoS. Still, i feel like it's something I might come back to every year or two to revisit, and I'm glad to have met some new blorbos. :)

"After Genderswap Reincarnation, I Raised the Strongest Player"
Ch73, I might have to MTL it to continue lol, it was a good read so far. I love the character chemistry and development between the main leads, also the world building, the way the author write is quite addictive to me~ genderbend, time travel, power couple, plot driven and selfcest? Count me in! Such a hidden gem but I'll put this on hold for now. The only problem I have with this is the misogynistic undertone but I feel like it's just the male lead having a different perspective and worldview from me lol, plus Mc have to bend ml over since it's a task required by the system and ml has the main system by his side and MC doesn't mind it since she know herself well. Plus this is just a guess, I think MC won't be able to go to the future and be herself again or even if it happens, Mc could have an existential crisis and probably realized that ml is a different person since he got different experiences, they will have a weird confusing memories infused together. Another case is her not able to go back to her original body and future and ML soon discovered the truth but play dumb or future ML is the one who's controlling the system that's why it seems a bit misleading towards MC and hiding confidential informations about who's behind and controlling it and ML is slowly becoming his own person as well as MC.
My guess for the ending is them making out at some point, MC will probably discovered why she time traveled and who was controlling her system and why she can't be stronger than him and find him a crazy bastard, it will shock her for a while. ML will discovered why MC approached him and his worldview would shatter but he's already deeply in love with her. Since they know each other well, it will take them some time to adjust to the state and then get back together. Anyways my brain is so empty lmaoooo.

i just finished 800+ chapters of a chinese webnovel after about 5 days of reading on and off
and now i dont know what to do
(i mean yes i have many things to do its just -- im very book hungover. im out of fuel. i need to resurface and recalibrate etc etc)
oh and i read most of it via machine translation... but it was mostly surprisingly understandable, aided by the fact i speak chinese so i can kinda fill in some gaps when things are translated off or wrong (im illiterate in chinese tho so fancier stuff still eludes me, RIP)
it was so good tho. it was not a romance at all despite for some reason being labeled one (probably bc the labeling system is dumb and sexist in cnovels and they designate anything with a female lead as romance 🙄)
like 800+ chapters in and not even the side characters have much to do with romance.
also fairly certain the guy i ship with the protagonist is not going to be romantic with her, and he's just going to be like, a platonic sibling, while the guy who the authors notes? says is the male lead is uh. i dont see how this is gonna work lol. i don't want him.
oh right it's ongoing so 👀 it seems to update once a day? I'll have to keep checking back...
also it's actually good story about a female monarch. like she's set up to be a "lord" from a young age due to her personal philosophies during a chaotic age, and she naturally draws talented individuals to work under her to support her rule, and it focuses on her combat prowess, her clever political scheming, her love of farming (this one plays a big role lol), and her desire to put the needs of the people first in an age where warlords rule and don't care at all for the lives of the lower class.
it's soooo much about her competence, but doesn't feel too OP to the point she's a Mary Sue, and there's a lot less... focus? I guess on the sort of typical infighting and backstabbing that "female monarch" stories have, plus the lack of romance so far really sets it all apart
oh and it's also about her making the world less sexist and letting women also do magic and serve as officials and soldiers and be less helpless and dependent on men
ugh, i just really liked it a lot!!!
there's 30+ chapters translated by people online rn and there's 814 chapters total in chinese, which you can find just by searching the chinese title
it's called Step Down, Let Me Come! by Fried Shiitake Mushrooms, and the novel updates link is here:
and the chinese title and author are:
author: 油爆香菇
title: 退下,让朕来
i might have to figure out how to get an acct and comment on the official site for the novel (and also figure out which is the official site lol) and get my comment translated. i want to beg the author to make the male lead the guy she has actually met and has chemistry with! 😭😭 unless i misunderstood some translated authors' notes, I'm pretty sure it's not him and im just 😠 no. i dont want that lol.

This isn't a particularly important interest, but I've been thinking about what "fanservice" is and how it relates to female characters, and while I'm pretty informed on their side, I'm interested in how it affects male characters.
I guess I'm thinking more on it because of some posts of how megumi is used for fanservice either by the way other female characters interact with him (remi, hana, etc) or by those panels showing his bare ass lol. For the girls, I guess it would be the fangirling and such to see his charming points lol. I didn't notice it much until recently, but others may disagree on what it is or means. I could probably be wrong on all of this, but I'm interested in looking into it
Do you know of any blogs or articles discussing fanservice in male characters (like those isekai harem series) and how we and fandom perceive female characters. I'm not as knowledgeable with the terms, and I don't want to pressure you for a response if it's not your expertise, but I wanted to share this with you anyway.
Thanks and may your days be filled with good things <3
HOLA! Thanks for stopping by.
Um, no. Unfortunately I know of no such blog or articles. I think if anything I'd recommend you look into the male vs. the female gaze and psychological repression. I would also love to hear your thoughts on the topic if you are inclined to share them.
I do have some #thoughts because fanservice is such an interesting topic, one that I am totally unprepared to talk about.
So at the expense of sounding like an uninformed idiot, I have #thoughts under the cut in case you want to read them…
I'll start by saying that I am fully aware that I may be missing important frameworks through which one can look at this issue, so please, anyone who reads this, feel free to enlighten me.
Outside of that, my thoughts are my own "perception" on a complex issue.
Fan service or self-aware?
Recently I commented on how I really love My Dress up Darling’s Kitagawa Marin because I see her as a character who knows she’s pretty, who owns her sexuality, and who is a chick who is not defined by her exterior appearance and has instead cultivated not just kindness, but also a well-rounded personality outside of the “I’m a hot chick” self-definition.
In that sense, given it's been a while since I read the manga, the manga felt like it walked a fine line between relying on fan service to show Marin is someone comfortable with her sexuality, and how it portrays the female body as a desirable object.
Tumblr media
That made the the manga feel like it was mostly self-aware in the use of fan service. Which is interesting to note because Marin is fashioned like a Garyu girl (meaning, she's intentionally sexualized) and Gojo is always shown as a character who, despite his attraction for her, goes out of his way to be respectful of her and not see her as a sexual object meant for his own gratification.
It's interesting, really, because My Dress Up Darling is actually quite wholesome for this very same reason, and it would probably not have the same effect without the fan service.
So rather than being fan service for the sake of fan service, the manga felt intentional in a way--like making commentary on the issue of the sexualization of the female body and how some women become overly-identified with this projection.
Tumblr media
On the other hand... I must admit that I felt like the anime goes to town with the boob jiggle in a way that is... uh... unnecessary?
In the end, fan service for the sake of fan service fetishizes and creates unrealistic expectations around the female body.
It's unnecessary at best and it reminds me of why I stopped watching Fire Force...
Tumblr media
I think that even if Okubo likes to drop meaningless platitudes like "it's not about looks but about the soul" like he does in Soul Eater, his fan service has always felt like its done for the sake of fan service and not because he's self-aware.
After all, there's a difference between "I'm hot and I like wearing a sexy outfit because fuck yeah I'm hot" (which is something I can relate to btw)...
Tumblr media
And constantly being harassed (even if accidentally) because you are not scared of your sexuality or simply comfortable in your own skin.
Tumblr media
Granted I'm not aware of this scene in context, but knowing how Okubo incorporates fan service into his manga... bruh... is this scene really necessary?
And, more importantly, to answer your question about how fan service affects characters with another question, what is this teaching the boys and girls who are reading these manga?
What's interesting is that My Dress Up Darling's mangaka is a woman and Fire Force / Soul Eater's mangaka is a male.
It's a massive overgeneralization to say that their respective genders explain everything. But there's also something to be said about how Fukuda (My Dress Up Darling) uses fan service to make commentary on a larger issue, and how Okubo (Fire Force) literally justifies fan service with thick ass plot armor.
Tumblr media
My brother in christ, if you like big boobs and you cannot lie then draw big boobs and be done with it ffs. Did Okubo really need to explain everybody's obsession with boobs at the end of Soul Eater as Chrona's own mommy issues? It feels more like he needed to justify wanting to draw big boobs.
So I'm going to take a little leap of logic here and say that what this tells me is that the problem with fan service is one of psychological repression--both from the audience and the creator. More on this in a bit.
In Depth Psychology, it is commonly accepted that anytime you repress any instinctual urges (such as sexual desire), depending on how bad the repression is, these urges take a life of their own and find a way to express themselves against your conscious will.
Fanservice in JJK
This brings me to "fan service" in JJK.
Tumblr media
I've literally gone on a tangent ok but like I know that going on tangents is basically all I ever do about how Uro's character design screams "appreciation of the female body" as opposed to fetishization.
Ok but you specifically mentioned Megumi in JJK and even wondered about how this affects males.
Megumi is an interesting subject for the term “fan service” and I am honestly not sure we can entirely compare Megumi to a harem isekai mc.
For one, JJK is self-aware af.
So even if Gege is positioning Megumi as that kind of character to whom all the chicks are attracted to, I feel confident saying he's making a statement about it in much the same way Fukuda does.
Tumblr media
For example, the issue with Remi is actually quite complex and multilayered. For one she was asking Megumi to become her knight because she found herself in a situation in which she saw herself as a damsel in distress that needed to be rescued. It is later revealed that she did not know how to rely on herself after having relied on men and their sexual attraction for her because she did not want to take responsibility for solving her problems.
Unlike Marin, Remi weaponizes her sexuality and it backfires.
Second, Remi looked to me like a symbolical exploration of Little Red Riding Hood. I understand that, historically-speaking, Little Red was a cautionary tale told to young girls to warn them against "wolves"--aka men who may prey on them sexually.
So.... there's that.
Then there's the bath scene you mention...
Tumblr media
When I saw Megumi get out of the bath I didn’t think anything of it until it occurred to me that this image would be perceived as fan service.
But like... I mean... I get out of the bath just as naked, and the only character I can think of who'd get out of a bath wearing clothes is Higuruma so... this begs the question: did Gege intend for this to be fan service, are we fetishizing Megumi's body or is Gege trolling?
But outside of that we also have Gege Kirara forcing Megumi to show some skin.
Tumblr media
And yes... the panel above screams "fan service" and yet its a tiny bit of skin exposed.
At this point in the manga, Sukuna had lost at least two shirts, and Hakari one. But somehow a peek at Megumi's abs got a much bigger and louder reaction from the fandom.
idk I'm rambling at this point.
But this is how I perceive it, right? So as always I don’t own the truth on the subject and I feel like the issue of fan service is highly subjective.
I’m just wondering where the line can be drawn between fetishization of the body, and an appreciation of the body--not just by mangaka, but by the audience.
And honestly, for as much shit as I gave Okubo for the way he uses fan service, I'm also a huge believer in sex-positivity and the healthy expression of the very, very human desire for sexuality and sensuality.
Different people have different thresholds for how much they're willing to tolerate. Sexuality is not a black and white matter, but exists on a continuum.
So to me, the issue on fan service comes back to our personal relationship with sex and the human body. Do we appreciate it? Is it something that we see as meant for self-gratification?
Um a bit of self disclosure here but I've met Kate Upton in person and holy shit...
Tumblr media
Her photos do not do justice to how gorgeous and sexually magnetic she is. I just want to worship her beauty.
It is also quite undeniable that she's inevitably picked up on the projections cast upon her as an object to be used for self-gratification.
I’d say it’s the same for the male body.
Hello Oscar Isaac in Dune? as;uho sf;arf h
So it makes me wonder whether the issue with fan service comes back to whether there is a point to be made, is the fan service trying to express an appreciation of beauty and the human form or even an expression of sexual desire itself?
The larger issue, I'd say, is how fan service affects others--which we can't control.
Does fan service teach others that the human body is beautiful and that it is natural to feel sexual desire, or does it teach that the human body is something to obtain for one's own self-gratification.
idk I'm rambling lol.
ALL THIS TO SAY... I probably went on a ridiculous tangent but hopefully this helps you in your search for answers.
I am also totally curious about why the topic interests you, etc.
Anyways, thanks for stopping by and sharing these #thoughts with me!

Prologue
Now that I have more time to write, the prologue's word count is at over 15k. It's small compared to a lot of IFs but I'm still proud, especially since I haven't had much time to work on it since November. In a week or so, it's my goal to have enough done that I can let my twin play it and let me know what he thinks. Oh and also I feel pretty good about the UI! I might post some screenshots this week once I fill out both sidebars.
So far in the prologue, each route spends some time with their family who will hopefully remain relevant even as THE CANDIDATE ventures to the City Beneath. THE COURTESAN's entry into the City Beneath is pretty different from THE HEIR and THE PROPHET's. While THE HEIR and THE PROPHET both maybe have an optional side quest, THE COURTESAN gets to meet one of the romance options earlier on.
The City Beneath is the working title for where most of the IF will take place. It has runner ups like the Forgotten City, the Unseen City, and the Void Citadel. I chose it because today I found little notes on an abandoned WIP called The City Beneath full of ideas like "lunar warrior maidens" and "void prophets" and a "celestial inner court" which I might incorporate in Within Scarlet Chambers as long as it fits. The vibes are getting more astral and dreamy which makes sense given my tastes and duh Night Court lol.
Character Customization
For now, I'm planning to make gender customizable for a reason that's maybe too specific and will lead to a ramble if I explain it. There will be a female, nonbinary, and male option and probably pronouns will be selected separately. I'll see how this goes.
I'm growing used to second person so I'll just use that when giving more narrative-y answers to asks. There's currently more content planned for female Candidates but that's just because I planned for them longer. I imagine things will even out as time goes on. No matter what, there should be enough story to go around.
I don't know if I've mentioned this or not but there are 5 skill stats that are currently called rites, music, duels, ink, and game. I should probably explain what each means haha but I won't yet. These 5 skills are cumulative and raise over time but I'm considering including traits or feats which will be true/false (either you know them or you don't) types that can be picked up along the way. I'll see if it works. On top of these, there are 3 stats related to THE CANDIDATE's general reputation: renowned, dreaded, and adored.
Appearance ended up a bit expanded. It includes 7 eye color, 4 skin color, 4 hair color, 3 hair type, 4 or 5 (including bald) hair lengths, and 7 body type options. There are 5 overall aesthetics which will decide facial features like eye shape and general visual vibes. The aesthetics are one of the factors which decide the characters' starting impression of the MC.
Relationships
Instead of having more or less uniform starting points, the major characters will have approvals based on the reputation of the route you've chosen for your character and the impression given off by your character's aesthetic and maybe their disposition.
I'm torn between having three separate approval stats: one to measure antagonism and dissonance, another to measure friendship and rapport, and another to measure romance and desire. And having it be like, just a stat for rapport and a stat for romance and then give consistent options for "bickering married couple banter" and so on. They both have pros and cons so I'm not sure yet.
There's another feature that I was going to mention here but I don't want to say too much and think this has gone on long enough haha. I'm really excited about how this is going so far.

What also makes me angry is the fact that Jonah (I think that’s how you spell his name)? Will never know his mom :( he’s a tiny baby and so young he won’t even remember her. I know no one is really talking about this because he’s a minor side character and a literal baby but that makes me so sad now that I’m thinking about it. Yeah we’re probably gonna meet Enzo and so many people have wanted to meet him but not like this 😭 it’s all so messed up. Like you said she already lived in New York aka was offscreen most of the time soooo what was the point in k wording her? I’m really curious to how she died. It’s messed up to me no matter how it happened but I’m still curious. Her character deserved better just like Charles. I’m really worried about Tk because they seemed to have a bond and were close in a way that TK isn’t with Owen. He seems so less guarded and softer around her I’m so upset for him…. This storyline is to further along a males storyline/arc and I’m disappointed that this is the case. I love Tk but it’s just a different version of things that have happened before
It really is so sad??? And, like, they literally created Jonah for a drama plot, so I guess it's no wonder that his poor mother would die that way too. And yes, it's that common of idea of we want certain thing this will bring, but WE DIDN'T WANT IT LIKE THIS!! This is like the Tarlos breakup where it brought good scenes and elicited curiosity but it was also not necessary and felt like a personal attack. The same is true with Charles too, where it was like okayyyy I get it but no. Sort of true with Tim as well lol. They were like only one can become a series regular and it WILL NOT be you. And yeah, I think the family dynamics continue to be interesting because on some levels, he is close to Owen, but Owen still has issues which kind of drives a little wedge, and we missed out on a lot of the relationship with Gwyn. And yes, absolutely, it's just like yes she felt like a pawn in the plot and it did not feel good and like this move just reestablishes that. She for sure was always going to be a pawn of sorts because she wasn't even a main character, but it's different to me because they didn't give her traits really beyond what they needed in the moment for the plot. I'll still have fun, but it's just not the best.

SORRY I WROTE AN ENTIRE AUTOBIOGRAPHY BUT THANK YOU SOO MUCH!
Also I'll reblog on my main! It's just in case the matchups are actually closed or sum I don't wanna seem stupid on my main acc 💀 THANKS
Ok so I want my matchup for Attack on Titan 💪🏼
As for age range, keep it as people who were in the 104th! Aka teenagers lol
I'm male and bisexual but I sort of have a preference for men
I'm tan with brown hair, uhh ngl I'm pretty short 🗿I mean I'm still average but on the shorter side, I just gotta be honest here 😬 LMFAO but I don't think I'm ugly though, my eyes are dark brown and I think I have nice eyebrows?
As for my personality: ok so I'm ENTP and yeah I'm pretty loud, people say I'm funny and I hope so, I love going to big parties, I HAVE VERY MUCH FOMO (fear of missing out) and therefore ALWAYS involved in some sort of fight on accident 😂😂 some not-so-good traits I have would be I have seperation anxiety WHICH ISNT BAD just can probably get annoying for others. I want someone really understanding. I can have a bad temper, but I don't take it out on my friends, more so I get into problems bc of it! I kinda want someone who can calm me down for that 😅
As for hobbies: LOVE COMICS, VIDEOGAMES (story videogames only), I LOVE DRAWING, I actually really like watching wrestling as well 😄, AND I LOVE DEBATE (friendly debate ofc).
Also I'm really good at any musical instruments cause I've been playing the viola for 9 years 😶 so yeah people ask me for answers for music class
as for likes: I love tacos, pizza, donuts, parties, having philosophical discussions on the kitchen counter at 11:00 pm very strong on that actually
I really like people who are good listeners! And who are, god I hate using this word, but uh geeky? UGH I HATE USING THAT WORD!! but yes people who are into comics and videogames and all of that 💪🏼
Dislikes: READING GODDD I HATE READING IM SORRY I LOVE COMICS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS BUT GOD NO I HATE READING
As in people, I really don't like rude people, ik that's kinda basic but I really don't. I also don't like (in a romantic way, I love these people as friends) overly smart people or overly dumb people, WHICH IS MEAN but like overly smart people make me feel dumb, and overly dumb people I can't trust to help me with homework 😶
And yeah I'm currently a student but I plan on becoming an occupational therapist (aka kinda just someone who works with kids who have a disorder I have and struggled with growing up 😅)
Love languages: I love both quality time and physical touch but also appreciate words of affirmation. I feel like I just ruined the whole point of this since I said everything 💀
But yeah in general quality time is my favorite to both give and receive! Like when you're together and just having a good conversation alone?? My favorite thing! Especially if it's in the kitchen at 11:00 Pm
But yes I want this matchup to be romantic, and for anyone I don't want...again just nobody old and not Mikasa ONLY CAUSE SHE REMINDS ME TOO MUCH OF MY SISTER 😂😂😂 IT WOULD WEIRD ME OUT LOL
THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN IM SO SORRY FOR WRITING MY ENTIRE LIFE STORY LMFAO ITS A BAD HABIT I NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING LOL
Hello lovely anon! You assure you that you’re perfectly fine! I appreciate all the details of your request :) I hope you’re having a wonderful day!
Also, I’m so sorry this actually took forever :,D I had trouble picking and choosing characters because I feel like you can get along with A LOT of people.
I match you with..
JEAN KIRSTEIN
Tumblr media
Jean would match your energy and your tastes so well. He’s your natural one-up for parties, and the two of you could share a brain cell, for better or for worse. You’re both very sociable and can have rather intellectual and philosophical thoughts. He can seem like a hardass at first glance, though he has a huge soft spot for you. If anyone picks a fight with you, you know he’ll have your back and won’t hesitate to throw some hands for you. He’s a bit rough around the edges and can be crude in calling out someone’s BS, but he’s fiercely loyal and protective for you.
He really loves spending time with you, and he’s very adamant about including you in group outings. It just doesn’t feel the same without you. He’s a super romantic guy, but he would definitely try to act cool about it, even if Connie and Sasha are ragging on him in the background. He’d be a bit quieter when it’s just you and him alone, but that’s just because he’s very comfortable with you. He can say anything that’s on his mind, and you can do the same. Overall, your relationship is very exciting, energetic, and communicative.
Headcanons:
Like you, Jean loves a good conversation and would love to challenge you in debates. He’s good at coming up with counterarguments so the exchange can just keep on going. You could spend the whole day having a theoretical debate with each other and not realize it. Sometimes, your voices could escalate to the point where it sounds like you’re ARGUING arguing, but you and Jean are really just having a very passionate debate.
Jean thinks he looks good playing string instruments, but he’s not that knowledgeable in music. He usually comes to you for music tutoring, though he mostly likes it because he can hang out with you.
You’ve made a habit to have taco/pizza nights with Jean. It’s not the most “romantic” date, but it’s absolutely perfect. You usually take turns paying for each other’s food and try a different kind of taco or pizza everytime. If he notices you’re feeling down for some reason, he’ll surprise you with a donut.
Behind all his grandeur, Jean can be very soft and quiet with you, as mentioned before. While he’s listening to you talk, he sometimes just brushes a knuckle along the frame of your face. He’s also really tall, so it’s easy for his eyes to just wander down to you.
Late night talks with Jean are the most intimate. You two are just alone in the kitchen. Jean is probably cooking omelettes for you to impress you, while you sit on the counter and talk about anything. Sometimes you may talk about the grey areas of morality or you may talk about the characterization of some heroes and villains from video games or comic books. He mostly listens to you, but he’d also give you an honest answer of what he thinks.
He really loves that you spend time with him because it makes him feel appreciated, and he feels energized being with his loved ones. Though, he would notice if you feel anxiety of being left out, and he would be quick to address it. He does everything he can to understand you and to make sure you also feel appreciated.
Other potential matches:
Bertholdt Hoover
Tumblr media
Pairing with Bertholdt for you is almost like when opposites attract. Your more extroverted and outspoken personality compliments Bertholdt’s more introverted and quiet personality, and you both tend to favor quality time. He would be so happy to just be near you, albeit he can be shy about it. He’d honestly be quite starstruck and amazed by your outgoing nature, and it takes him forever to talk to you. He likely shares some of your niche interests in comics and videogames, which he would have a lot of thoughts and feelings on but he doesn’t share them openly. He’s not at all confrontational for debating, but he does have a lot of introspective thoughts and is extremely observant. He can be a calming and gentle presence for you, especially when you might need reassurance. He also has perfect hands for hand holding, and the utter height difference is really cute. He would be one to truly appreciate and admire you and your goals.
Historia Reiss
Tumblr media
She’s a very thoughtful person and can round out some of your rougher edges, and she’s super encouraging and supportive of you. She usually settles fights before they happen, and she’s the type to stick by your side no matter what happens. Surprisingly stubborn, she would also call you out on your temper and would be there for you to help deal with your temper. She might not be as extroverted as you, but she loves a good party, especially if it’s with you. She’s an attentive listener and would be genuinely interested in your perspective on things. You could hold a conversation forever with her, and she would ask questions to keep your train of thought going late into the night. She would also be a big fan of your artwork and drawings.
———
I hope this was alright!
Please look over this post before submitting a matchup request :) Thanks!

ROLEPLAY PARTNER NEEDED! 8-29-23

Iapetus 30 day HCs
Hi its tumblr noob anon with *gasp* EARLY 30 DAY HCs on iapetus?? Wow what is this character development anyway im free now so i'll do iapetus's HCs early. You're welcome iapetus
- i think iapetus would have short golden blonde hair, but styled in a short(?) and not so spiky mohawk LOLOL. I'm really influenced by vans' iapetus and general titan HCs (omg legit man vans ur titan hcs are *chef's kiss* legit they give me so much serotonin <3 <3 <3) so i think this would fit iapetus's street smart and prankster personality. I think he would be around average height and his eyes would be either blue or golden
- iapetus and cronus were the terror twins and always gave oceanus a hard time, but i HC that iapetus was the chief troublemaker of the two. Cronus mostly preferred to plan pranks and be less of the centre of attention than iapetus, while iapetus was always his executioner or right hand man, which fits nicely with his epithet "the piercer". Also sometimes rhea would join in too. I also HC that iapetus really likes rap and hip hop (or whatever equivalent they had back in the day) and would have solo rap performances (sometimes with rhea beatboxing) whether his family liked it or not. I really like this rockstar HC i have of iapetus LOL it really fits with his epithet "the piercer" lol u go iapetus u punk rockstar. Anyway another thing "the piercer" reminds me of is prozd's archibald skit where he's like "i think the enemy got THE POINT" while thrusting his spear at the enemy its really funny guys y'all should check it out
- iapetus's defining characteristic is his loyalty. He's like a highly ranked and beloved gang member (lol), utterly devoted to his baby brother cronus and his cause (although he treats cronus like a big brother LOL). He's cronus's right hand man and will always be by his side and stick by him no matter what. Iapetus also was not ambitious at all, and was content to stay at his brother's side, working for and with him. It brought him the most happiness and contentment. I think out of all of the titans, he was the one who truly believed in the concept of a family the most. Although he sometimes didn't get along with some of his family members such as themis and mnemosyne, he truly believed that families should stick together through thick and thin and support each other no matter what. To him, betrayal was the worst crime anyone could commit.
- iapetus's wife is asia/clymene, an oceanid. I think bcos he's so family-oriented, he couldnt see his siblings as anything other than his brothers and sisters so he had to marry someone outside of his family LOL. Anyway I HC that maybe one day iapetus was hanging by some river or lake or something or swimming in the water and clymene was like what are u doing here this is my home get ur dirty ass out of my house (get out of my swamp LOLOLOL) and then iapetus starting rapping and singing and it really charmed clymene LOL and so they got together. Good for clymene tho bcos i think out of all the (male) titans, iapetus would probably be the best father out of the lot
- regarding his kids, iapetus and clymene loved all of them dearly. Iapetus would definitely instill them to be loyal, especially to their friends and family, while also teaching them street smarts and craftiness to get out of tight spots. Clymene, however, would teach them to be their own person and instead of blindly following someone, they should be able to decide things for themselves and choose who or what cause they wanted to follow or devote themselves to or not at all.
- now we get to the depressing part... the titanomachy. Of course iapetus supports cronus with all his heart and strength and might. He's his brother, he's family, and most of all, he's his best friend. Iapetus probably doesn't agree with cronus's methods of devouring his children, especially now that he has his own kids, he can't imagine doing that to his own children, but he can definitely respect, admire and feel immense gratitude to cronus for the sacrifices that he made for them, the titans. Cronus had always been a natural born leader, and iapetus could not help but feel an immense respect, love and adoration for him, bcos although he did horrible things, he did those terrible things for them. This is why iapetus chooses to fight for, with and alongside cronus even until the end, and even though they would eventually lose and get thrown into tartarus, he would always do it again and again for his family and for his brother. (this is like achilles and patrocles but without the homoerotic subtext. Move aside homoerotic achillesXpatrocles, purely philia and storge iapetus+cronus coming through. LOLOL but honestly we need more purely intensely intimate platonic or familial relationships in media)
- although some of iapetus's children (atlas and menoetius) fought for cronus with him, his other children (prometheus and epimetheus) would instead fight for zeus. Iapetus would have felt incredibly hurt and betrayed by prometheus and epimetheus, especially prometheus as they both share the same craftiness and iapetus knows that prometheus would have planned this betrayal for a long time. Iapetus would have been so taken aback and horrified. How could his children, whom he has loved and cherished and taught all he knew, turn his backs on him and their family? How could they be disloyal? I think the disappointment, grief, shock and anger would have torn iapetus apart. He would have probably expelled prometheus and epimetheus violently, and would have very nearly disowned them (thankfully he just stopped short of disowning them though, but in that moment, his entire world came crashing down in a shower of rage, betrayal, pain and despair)
- the truth was that prometheus was actually the best blend of his parents. He inherited iapetus's loyalty, cunning and craftiness, but he also took clymene's teachings to think for himself to heart. In the end, prometheus became a noble trickster who was loyal to his own cause, similar to hermes (which is why he becomes so big of a threat to zeus later when he acts on his own accord and defies zeus by stealing fire) (by the way, i'm not sure if clymene supported cronus or zeus, but i think she would have mostly remained neutral, and mostly just tried to reduce the punishments for her children and husband (although that didnt really work too well, but atlas got to hold up the celestial sphere, so maybe that's better than being thrown into tartarus for all eternity)
- anyway, after reflecting in tartarus for some time, iapetus would eventually forgive prometheus and epimetheus. He would come to realise that although he himself would forever be loyal to cronus no matter what, you cannot force loyalty and he cannot make his children devote themselves to cronus's cause. He understands that just as iapetus feels so much love and loyalty to cronus and always consciously chose to follow him (iapetus never blindly followed cronus, he always made his own decisions and always chose cronus), his children would find their own things that they would love and devote themselves to and be loyal towards. He cannot force his children to be devoted towards the same things that he is. In this way, iapetus comes to forgive his children.
- overall, i think iapetus emerges from the tragedy that is the titanomachy with his personality traits largely unchanged, but more mellowed and with a greater understanding and acceptance of his children.
- (i'm mostly done, but i have this one HC that i think would be cool) I HC that iapetus, being his charming self, would play with cerberus and be kind to him, eventually winning cerberus's trust. This would lead to iapetus eventually winning over hades's favour, leading to iapetus being able to secure monthly(?) visits from his wife and unpunished children (and maybe even the other titans who went free). I think that iapetus made up with prometheus and epimetheus before prometheus got punished by zeus (big L). When iapetus got wind of his son's cruel punishment, he raged and campaigned so hard for his son's freedom to hades that hades told zeus, who eventually gave heracles permission to set him free during his 12 labours.
WOW IM ACTUALLY DONE NOW. i think that iapetus has really become my favourite (male) titan, together with mnemosyne (whom i developed some interesting HCs for last night. Lets hope i will remember them by the time mnemosyne's 30 day HCs roll around). Honestly i really feel that iapetus is really an all-around great guy. If only cronus hadnt wrecked all of that (goddammit cronus u really either die a hero, or u live long enough to see urself become the villain). But ultimately, cronus and iapetus are really blessed to have each other for company in tartarus, especially cronus. U really don't deserve iapetus man

I'm g2b soon so I might not see your answer until tomorrow but since you want to talk Mash and I'm curious: who's your favourite character and why? And what would you say is your favourite season overall?
Incidentally we seem to have a few similar slightly niche opinions lol, I was just saying the other day that I don't take the 11 years of actors aging as diegetic canon and I have a few posts about how frustrating The Price and Your Retention Please are too (though I didn't realize the Korean war hero was in a Japanese uniform in The Price, oof). So I'm looking forward to seeing more of your takes on the show.
I'll admit, I didn't know what a Japanese cavalry uniform looked like until I watched that episode, but it seemed a little off, so I did a bit of digging and yeah, Japanese, not Korean. Which isn't too surprising for M*A*S*H, but it definitely helped shift my general ambivalence towards the episode to outright dislike. It's one of the few that really can't be redeemed for me, even though the concept of Hawkeye trying (and failing) to keep a draft dodger out of the ROK is interesting.
I'm far more indifferent to "Your Retention Please." It's not a great episode, I don’t plan on rewatching it, but that’s just because it doesn’t really do much for me. It reads as a really washed out commentary on military retention (re-enlisting Klinger while he was down on his luck about his ex was kind of laughable to me; predatory enlistment has way more to do with socioeconomics than it does, uh, boohoo my ex-wife is still shitty), but that's it's biggest sin.
The calvary stuff is definitely my biggest costuming gripe, but I do remember at one point Mulcahy comes on screen wearing a collegiate hoodie and I had to restrain myself from yelling "THEY DIDN'T START PUTTING COLLEGE LOGOS ON HOODIES UNTIL THE 60S!" As though that matters to anyone except me, haha.
If you want, DM me the posts you're referring to and I'll send you my thoughts. I've been binging the series for the first time over the past week, and just wrapped up the finale yesterday, so right now I'm still kind of processing.
As for my favorite characters, I usually gravitate towards the leads. Hawkeye's definitely my favorite. I appreciate how overtly anti-military he and Trapper are, while both still retaining a lot of period typical flaws you'd see in most mid-century, white American males. It’s particularly apparent Hawkeye's misogyny, the cognitive dissonance he seems to face when he’s confronted with the fact that no matter how much he hates it, he’s still part of the war effort, etc. But his character development remains fairly consistent for being a non-chronological show.
I really like characters who desperately try to be good people, but still fail in many ways, whether it be through their own, unconscious biases, egos, or faulty coping mechanisms. Putting them in a high stress situation, like war, makes those idiosyncrasies stand out all the more. Hawkeye is full of idiosyncrasies. The episodes that explore his more manic moments are some of my favorites. There are a couple of particularly underrated scenes in "Stars and Stripes" where he's desperately cramming a scrabble board under the noses of anyone who looks at him for more than two seconds. By Depressing News, we see ten seasons worth of trauma start getting to him, but like Sidney said, he'd be crazy if it didn't.
He's also just a very charming, funny person. He holds a lot of love for his friends. Henry wasn’t wrong in saying "Hawkeye's kind of the heartbeat of the 4077th." Which is another interesting side to Hawkeye's character - while he likes attention, he obviously doesn't like people regarding him as someone worth looking up to. It’s why he thrives on goofy antics in post-OP and around camp, but gets viscerally uncomfortable when he’s, say, swarmed by reporters like in “Heroes” or put on a pedestal like in “Fallen Idol.”
Second favorite is probably Charles. Despite being the last of the main crew to become a regular cast member, I think he has the most character growth of anyone in the show. His episodes were definitely some of the most emotional for me, even beyond Hawkeye's breakdown eps. There's something just very poignant about watching Charles be quietly humbled. "Actually no, that thought hadn't occurred to me. That would be interesting, wouldn't it?" and "Those men weren't soldiers, they were musicians" are two of the most haunting lines of the show.
I do like Frank, but my appreciation for him is more as a narrative foil for Hawkeye and Trapper than it is as a character or person. He's very funny, he does a good job portraying what he's supposed to, and he has absolutely no redeeming qualities. At best, you pity him.
Margaret and Klinger tie for third. Margaret’s another character who exhibits a lot of growth over the course of the series. She’s still a bootlicker, but seeing her develop into her own person outside of Frank or any of the shitty men she finds herself tied to is extremely satisfying. I like it when she’s able to pal around with the others. Klinger would have beaten Margaret but I don’t really enjoy his character arc. I understand it, but his gradual acceptance and indoctrination into the military reads as a tragedy to me.
Henry and Trapper tie for forth. Henry takes a very, very slight lead just because he's such an endearing little doormat to me, but had Wayne Rogers gotten his wish and had Trapper become a more fully rounded character, he'd probably win out.
Third and fourth places are very close. I actually struggled with which ones I wanted to put first.
I have surprisingly few thoughts on BJ, for someone who typically enjoys musing about characters with issues. He’s fine, I guess. I like that he’s got a manipulative streak. Sometimes watching the girls fight is enjoyable, sometimes it isn’t. He clearly cares for his friends, but he’s terrible at showing it. He expresses himself through concrete actions, not vulnerability. I really wish Farrell had been more open to letting BJ be the fall guy every now and then, like Hawkeye and Charles. I think I’d have liked him more if there had been any sort of acknowledgment by the narrative that BJ struggles with his own internal biases, because he totally does; it’s just never talked about. I prefer thinking up meta on BJ, but I prefer watching Trapper.
Favorite side character is Flagg. He’s one dimensional, but also a total riot.
Least favorite character is Potter. I went from liking him, to feeling conflicted, to actively disliking him over the span of a day. Go figure.
As for my favorite season, I’m not sure I have one. I pick and choose my favorite episodes. I think the only season I struggled to pull three solid eps from was season eleven, but I honestly enjoyed the finale and that’s like four episodes rolled into one, so I dunno. I wasn’t huge on season ten, either.
If I had to pick a favorite.. prooobably season three? You start getting glimmers of the more dramatic, character driven episodes, but Trapper and Henry are still there and you have a lot of the really fun, early season antics. Because it’s still, you know, the early seasons.
I actually do appreciate the tone shift from a thematic perspective. Something, something, losing your innocence, blah blah blah. Not that the early episodes were particularly innocent, but M*A*S*H does a hard swing from satirical comedy to character driven tragedy (with comedic elements) as the reality of the crew’s situation really starts sinking in.
