The people of Gotham both fear and revere The Signal. As they do the rest of the Batfam but for Signal it's a bit different.

For starters, he's the only daytime hero. The other Bats usually only come out at night when the city is quieter. And while it's far from asleep, they prioritize stopping the numerous crimes that occur in the shadows. Civilian interactions far and few. Most pictures of them online seemed more like cryptid sightings than heroes soaring through Gotham skies.

The Signal on the other hand was the people's Bat. They got to see him soar through the sky, or ride his bike in all his golden glory. He gave autographs, took photos, and joined them on their daily commutes. He was a regular at mom-and-pop shops, made sure the troubled kids made it to school, and checked in on the sick and elderly. And while he did work with them when necessary, he mostly liked to fuck with the police, like a true Gothamite would.

All in all, he was the sweet sunshine that Gotham needed. He was far more human than the others. Not that he was human, oh heck no! NONE of the bats were human! But it felt that way. Until you were reminded that he was INDEED a Bat.

The way he merged and appeared out of the shadows despite his bright yellow suit, and moved without a sound. He knew about people and things before they happened. And had an intelligence that was absolutely terrifying when thought about. And the way he took care of crimes?

The Signal is cold, borderline brutal, and efficient (with commentary that leaves you agape and a chill down your spine) when dealing with criminals. It was always jarring to witness the sudden change from Gotham's sunshine boy to stone-cold Bat, and back again. It almost gave you whiplash to realize that this was the vigilante that you were talking to about your puppies a few moments ago. And it really instilled the Fear™ that that bats were known for.

The other Bats were terrifying, shadowy demons that moved through the night. Stopping crime in the darkness. Gotham knew and appreciated this. But the Signal? He was the bright light at the end of the tunnel and the warmth of the brilliant sun. But he was also...

Got back into Guild Wars 2, specifically into my Commander of 9 years - *coughs* did somebody order YET another severely unwell tree man for the gw2 community? I got y'all covered. Presenting my Harbinger-Reaper, (I swap) Maelmordha. I can't draw sylvari for shite, but slowly getting there.

Gonna get a bit rambley about his design under readmore, I have moots who aren't that far in the story yet so spoilers for Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire down below. Bonus: ingame screenshot spam because I love him very much.

A thirdborn of the Cycle of Dawn and born diplomat, it was quite unusual for the kind Maelmordha to be awakened with a talent for necromancy and curiosity for all things morbid, but that would only come in handy with the initial parts of his Wyld Hunt. There's very little canon-divergency up until PoF here.

If you're wondering where the monster hand comes from, that'd have to be the last mission of HoT - resisting Mordremoth took its toll, leaving Mael with a mutated Vinetooth left arm - stronger, but less dexterous, and occasionally covered with Kas' mesmer magic.

Now the ill-fated duel with Balthazar is where things really went wrong, even compared to canon. Having been cornered and killed - in a deliberately humiliating and painful fashion - The Commander, filled with anger and fear for Aurene's life, sought to come back to finish the job. He slew and took the Eater of Souls' life force for his own, forever replacing his red glow with a ghastly cyan. Subsequently, he was not really alive anymore; Closest to a lich than anything else and capable of surviving most otherwise lethal injuries. Unfortunately, the act of rising from the dead rendered him Soundless.

Being killed is also, ironically, how he acquired his Harbinger talents, having learned to utilize the energy of negative emotion (both his own and of those around him) to empower his necromantic magic. As such, he's at his most fearsome - and least stable - during large-scale battles, relying on his allies to not be overwhelmed by channeling vast amounts of pain and death. While still kind where it matters, he has since developed an outwardly cold and sassy personality.

Maelmordha's hand cannon, Thorn from Destiny the Bellringer, was also forged from the Eater of Souls.

(I'm currently up to LWS4 Long Live the Lich in my story playthrough and would appreciate if spoilers for anything further could be avoided 🫡 anyway say hiiii if you're a sylvari main too 💜)

will forever be annoyed by the cinnamon roll fanon version of dex. because thats not who he is! he gets angry, and spiteful, and jealous, and that deserves to be recognized. people cut him down to just his sweet moments when talking about him, and I can't figure out why. this boy can be mean and hurtful and that deserves to be acknowledged.

Yesterday I was replaying Deltarune and I was going really insane about it picking up on things I missed on my first playthrough and something that fucked me up hard was this line here

The little ellipsis at the end, almost like you can hear the regret on their voice. Voice of an ad who is realizing maybe they fucked up on this one. But it also made me think of... The possibility of this being a reaction to Spamton's actions.

Because I don't think this was an automatic thing, I feel like their drifting off was gradual. Sure, their jealousy had won them over (I'd have killed the guy or myself if I was them so I don't even blame them) but Spamton was too getting busier and busier the more famous he got, and as they say, that never stopped. He only kept getting bigger, until it all came crashing down. And when it did it was one of them who tried to go find him, after all that.

But I digress, let's focus on the original quote from my favorite sigma enby themselves, Pink Addison. There's obviously not only the regret to it, but feeling like they were abandoned too. Both parties lost a lot and the real tragedy is just how easily it could've have been avoided! Or rather, how beyond their control it was...

But I'll get off topic if I keep speaking so I'll leave it at that. The sheer tragedy that there is to everyone involved just makes me insane. Like I said in a post previous to this; you cannot trace down a good guy or a bad guy in this tale, it's just desperate people taking awful decisions and living to regret their actions.
