Some people: Kaeya’s bio father is an abusive monster who abandoned his son in order to achieve his own selfish goals. He is an evil man who deserves everything awful that might happen to him.
Other people: Kaeya’s bio father did the right thing and leaving Kaeya in Mondstadt was the only way to give him a halfway-decent life. He is a better father than he is given credit for and should not be as hated as he is.
Me: Kaeya’s bio father is integral to the general ‘war is hell and bad choices can reverberate across time’ thing that Genshin seems to be going for. He made unethical choices, but mostly because the ONLY OPTIONS HE HAD WERE UNETHICAL. If our understanding of the Alberich’s role in Khaenri’ah is accurate, General Alberich (my name for him until stated otherwise) was suddenly in charge of a hopeless and dead kingdom which begged to be saved. Assuming that there was a reason Kaeya specifically was chosen for this mission, General Alberich was forced into a position where he needed to choose between the lives/future of every Khaenri’an vs the life and future of his young son. Abandoning either is an awful thing to do and a horrible decision, but the bad decisions of Celestia and Rhinedottir have led to a scenario where General Alberich can only make bad decisions. In the end, he chose to prioritize his people and made his young son into a spy. We do not know the process for this, but knowing how much Hoyoverse loves to torment people (especially Khaenri’ans) we can assume that this process was horrific for Kaeya and could definitely be considered abuse. General Alberich is effectively making his son into a child soldier for a war that the majority of people never wanted or asked for, and one Kaeya was likely far too young to understand. At least, until he was forced to grow up far too quickly in order to fulfill his duty. General Alberich likely loathed everything about what was happening and even in his last moments with his son he asks for forgiveness. He knows that what he is doing is wrong, but to turn back now is to both abandon his subjects and make everything that happened to Kaeya in order to turn him into a child spy be for nothing. So yeah, General Alberich is a terrible person who made horrible choices. But war and the bad actions of others have created a situation where he has nothing BUT horrible choices and where being a terrible person is the only thing he can be. And that’s without considering how the curse/abyssal corruption could impact the scenario.

Digitalised + coloured + redesigned version of my Suiren and Vaatu sketch from two days ago, as promised!!
Coming up with Suiren’s design was a very long process of trying and failing because after you’ve drawn 9+ different versions of one character, the creativity starts to run a little dry, but I’m actually really proud of this one, she looks absolutely adorable <3
(Also yeah I did mostly just scribble Vaatu’s pattern because who has the energy to draw the all out accurately. Not me, that’s who, I’m chronically tired. People who draw him on the regular have my utmost respect. He’s still a funky little guy though :D)
Bonus, Raava incessantly screaming inside Suiren (and being completely ignored because Suiren is tired of her) while all this is happening:

thank you for fighting the good fight in the notes re: poc vackers. this fandom can be Exhausting at times so i have so much respect for you both for just putting up with that bullshit and also having such articulate responses o7
Thank you, I wasn't expecting that convo to go that direction or last as long as it did, so I was a little caught off guard. Good to know I did alright.
Conversations like those can be especially frustrating sometimes because there are some people where, if you don't behave super civilly, you're not going to get anywhere and they'll just shut it out and dismiss you and take it as reinforcement of their incorrect ideas. So even as satisfying as it might be to be super direct and blunt, it won't do what you want. It just adds a whole other level to an already infuriating conversation.
But I do believe everyone can learn and improve, even if it takes time. So I will continue, when I have the energy, to try and be one of those people to help others unlearn their harmful/ignorant ideology. I'm not a perfect person, so I'm still learning many things myself, but I'll still try when I can. So here's hoping that person learns to listen and challenge their beliefs, and to find more reputable sources. Especially since they seem young and misinformed.

I can't believe marvel's civil war seriously tried to tell it's audience that a team of (mostly) Americans with superpowers should be able to act like an international military police force with zero legal oversight because 'Gubmint Bad' and I guess 12 people having no legal oversight to their actions as an international force is fine?? That has got to be some of the most fucked up copaganda I've ever watched, and frankly I was shocked at how many people I spoke to fully bought into it too.
Like really, you actually think a small group of people almost entirely from one country should be able to act as an international military intervention team with zero legal obligations? If you think about that for more than 5 seconds it should be obvious as to why that's a bad idea and why America specifically would think that's a good idea.

I literally had a meeting with my professor today about these upcoming assignments where she stressed to me not to get distracted and keep it narrow, right? I sat there and explained that I want to include this and I think this is related but I'm worried that it's not strictly relevant and will lead to me getting distracted which I do not have room for in my word count and she looked at me like 'yeah obviously? like why are you bringing it up if you already know thats whats going to happen?' because the issue isn't that I don't know what the problem is, I'm well aware of my problems, the issue is that knowing isn't enough to prevent it. I need you to tell me that I'm right in this assessment and that I definitely cannot include all of that. I need strict parameters because I cannot be trusted

There aren't trains in Tasmania???
There are trains - there’s a freight line that goes through the major towns - we just don’t have any commercial passenger trains, only little tourist trains that cost $80+ and take you 1-2 kilometres along the coast or through the rainforest. They’re pretty, I’m sure, but ultimately pointless. If I wanted to get from Launceston to Hobart & back, I’d have to either drive or take the bus, which most people in Tasmania can agree are both terrible options.
It’s just really frustrating because the lines EXIST, they discontinued passenger trains in the 70s and, again, the freights pass through the major towns, but because cars are a Thing, it’s unsustainable (yet, most people I know would much rather take a train than have to drive long distances)

there was a local station for a while that played all ~smooth hits for your workday~ and all the wine moms loved it but the rest of us put the classic rock station on the MOMENT they left. I'm sorry. we need energy music, not sleepy hold music tunes. ;_;
