—he takes it so personally like you’re only nervous because it’s him

—But he quickly realizes that you have social anxiety after seeing you in the halls once, walking with your head down and your headphones blasting

—he’ll chuckle a bit and realize that he should probably be a bit more lenient with you walking on eggshells around him because it’s just you being anxious and shy

—he’ll still be a grump

—but he’ll try to honest with you so there’s no room for your anxiety to make you feel bad with him

—he doesn’t like to leave his room much, so he’ll have Tohma follow you for a day to see what kind of things you like

—that’s how he finds out you like animals

—he will try to buy you a pet,,, please do not let him because he’ll start arguing with his father about it bc no pets allowed at darkwik

—he has a hard time understanding that he can’t buy your affection

—he’ll eventually just start asking you to hang out in his room and do separate things in the same space

—he’ll work or read while you do homework or draw or whatever else

—when you start getting comfortable and letting him see your true self,,, he’ll chuckle and scold you like you’re a cat that pushed something off a counter

—he’s very entertained by your chaos

—he’ll keep you around even more just to hear what you have to say about various topics of interest at darkwik

Haku Kusanagi

—he clocks your social anxiety right away

—he’ll do his best to make sure you’re comfortable and feel okay around him

—he’ll do the classic stuff like walking you to class (even with your headphones on) or holding doors for you to try to get you used to his presence

—he thinks it’s adorable how good you are with animals

—you almost remind him of Suba in a way, how you’re so quiet

—once he gets to know you better though, that association fades

—he’s impressed by how chaotic you are.

—he eats it up though

—you say something wild and he laughs and plays along

—you do something unhinged and he’s right there with you

—hell tease you for it definitely, but nothing that might offend you

Alan Mido

—is also socially anxious,,, especially with you

—he really really doesn’t want to scare you

—he’s trying so hard,,, Leo will try to blackmail/make fun of him for this

—but Leo actually pulls through with some good advice “just hang out with them. Ask about their interests or something…”

—hell start doing this more

—he’s a bit awkward, but it’s a bit refreshing to hang out with someone that’s not just an asshole (like many of the other captains)

—He starts slow, just asking you if you’d want to get lunch together (far away from Vagastrom)

—he’ll even offer to walk you to class a few times

—he will get lost on his way to your dorm,,,

—he’ll see how good you are with animals and his heart will explode from how cute the sight is

—he stays back though, not wanting to scare off you or the cat

—he’ll apologize for watching and tell you he just didn’t want to ruin the moment

—he asks you more about animals and how you got to be so good with them

—he listens to you intently and asks questions about more things about you

—once he gets to know you well enough for you to let out the more unhinged side, he’ll be pretty amused

—he wouldn’t have guessed you’d be so mischievous, but he likes it a lot

—though he will always worry and try not to let you get too unhinged because he doesn’t want you to become a target of any kind

—(but even if you did he’d fight tooth and nail to protect you and keep you safe)

Haru Sagara

—Haru is gonna be the most understanding here

—He gets it, and initially he just leaves you alone for the most part, not wanting to stress you out

—it’s watching you interact with peekaboo and the campus cats that really makes him fall for you

—he loves how good you are with animals so much

—will probably approach you like an anomalous animal, will be very cautious and watch your reactions carefully

— he’s thrilled and a little surprised when you start getting comfortable enough to show your real personality around him

—he wasn’t expecting you to be so chaotic 😭

—you kinda remind him of towa in a way??

—he’s just happy that you’re being yourself with him now tho

Taiga Hoshibami

—he’s used to people being nervous around him, so you attitude doesn’t surprise him

—he thinks it’s funny to startle you or take you headphones off

—it’s not until he sees you being the exact same around everyone else that he starts to question

—he feels like a bit of an ass for trying to get your attention like a kid on a playground….

—so the switch feels like it came out of nowhere, but all of a sudden he’s being very defensive and protective of you

—he’ll point his gun at anyone that dares to look at you in a way that might make you nervous/uncomfortable

—he won’t say much to you during this time either

—he’ll just walk around with you like an aggressive guard dog(or guard tiger,,,,)

—soon enough everyone knows not to bother you, fearing taiga’s wrath

—he thinks it’s cute that you’re good with animals too,,,, he tries his best not to eat around you. He doesn’t want you to get upset about the way he eats and he really doesn’t want to have to explain himself

—will ask you to bring peekaboo to him though, only half joking

—once you get comfortable around him and start showing off your more unhinged side, he feels like he just won the lottery

—he loves it so much

—you match his freak <3 (maybe not all the way but he’ll take what he can get)

Have you seen a boy that is just so? ft him in mikeys clothes after his first shower, him playing chess w Leo (Leo is portaling pieces every time he looks away), baby Casey’s, present day clothing design (tshirt and tank top option), and him absolutely punching a guy that was lightly teasing his friend (crush) because ill be damned if i make a version of casey that isn’t at least a little overkill and aggressive. he’s got apocalypse brain (trauma, bad modern social skills, and overprotectiveness)

I was looking at his design again and for some reason I never really noticed the wrist thing under his glove? I don’t think we see his hands in the movie and it very well could be something like Donnie’s wrist pad and is simply a device for his grappling hook buuuuut as we see in the shot where Donnie accidentally sets the grappling hook off, the grappling hook is pretty chunky and is stored INSIDE this gray thing, which means that it would be inside his arm. Yes this is stylized and is probably using cartoon logic but I’m just gonna choose to believe that it’s actually a cool future donnie built bionic arm

Famous for his work in exposing various corrupt business owners over the internet, Seiji (also known by his internet handle of JUSTORM) garnered a massive online following of people determined to follow his every move and carry out "justice". Unfortunately, this bold and determined online personality hardly matches Seiji's real life personality. In reality, thanks to spending most of his days holed up in his room, he is rather socially inept and gullible. Because of that, he gets lead by the nose rather often and is easily susceptible to flattery, for, in spite of his awkward personality, he holds his talent with great pride. There are some allegations that Seiji's perception of justice is "childish", "naive", or too "black-and-white", but these allegations hardly hold any water.

The Furukawa family runs one of the oldest and most popular museums in Japan, with Hatsue functioning as their primary curator, being in charge of both researching and maintaining the museum's many artifacts and exhibits. Because the Furukawas are very close-knit, Hatsue holds family very close to her heart, with that attitude even extending to those she considers friends. But considering her socially-awkward personality, the circle of people she considers to be friends are rather limited, and the leadership that comes with that talent doesn't really extend beyond the museum. Because of her talent, she is highly knowledgable in just about every aspect of history, and would readily jump at the chance to explain all she knows to you.

During tense situations, Hikari takes it upon herself to be the leader and keep everybody else from getting hurt or killed, which means she can be quite overbearing at times. Her strong sense of responsibility means that she takes failure hard and can have difficulty recovering when it seems like she's failed someone. In spite of what her talent would suggest, Hikari is noticeably uncomfortable with undertaking strenuous exercises herself, and would much rather help other people achieve the dreams that she can't.

How to NOT fix the opioid crisis - refuting a bad podcast episode

I listened to the episode “Fixing the Opioid Crisis ft. Rep. Brittany Pettersen” on The New Liberal Podcast. Pettersen is clearly a crackpot, and the host is oblivious.

My many complaints (a bit rough, only partially cited):

First, the phrase “opioid epidemic” is already misleading and outdated. It frames the problem as caused by the availability of opioids, and frames opioids as bad. For a rejection of the “opioid epidemic” framing, see this Leo Beletsky presentation.

One of the few good things: Pettersen wants better funding models for both naloxone (e.g. via Medicaid) and addiction treatment. I agree.

Pettersen says we should go after “traffickers,” but then it sounds like she wants to crack down on ALL drug sellers. It also sounds like she wants to consider implementing greater mass government surveillance of social media across the board (wtf), to crack down on people buying and selling what I infer are small amounts of drugs (???). This is irresponsibly unclear at best, and probably just stupid and bad.

I note, it has already been shown from multiple convergent lines of evidence that arresting drug sellers increases local overdoses (recent example).

Moreover, many anti-drug-dealer laws harm drug users, in a great many increasingly evident ways—see DPA’s “Rethinking the Drug Dealer." She ignores all this. Countless drug users share drugs with one another frequently. They are all at risk of being targeted as “drug dealers.” This is the #1 reason people don’t call 911 when they see an overdose, or why they delay calling 911—they fear police harassment and investigation. (And Good Samaritan laws only cut down a tiny fraction of this problem. Decriminalization, including for low-level dealers, is also needed.) (See parts of the Beletsky video on some of this, as well as DPA.)

Unlike Republicans, Pettersen at least acknowledges that most fentanyl comes into the US through legal ports of entry, not illegal border-crossing. But she proposes no realistic notion of how to meaningfully reduce the fentanyl coming through legal ports. There’s no reason to take this seriously. In practice this sounds like it’s just a less racist version of the same failed drug interdiction efforts that have already been discredited. Only a tiny amount of the fentanyl is ever intercepted successfully. Nobody has ever proposed a feasible way to do it, and she seemingly offers nothing new. Even if they could intercept the fentanyl, other drugs (almost surely drugs on par with fentanyl or more dangerous) (e.g. nitazenes) would take its place, or possibly fentanyl (or other synthetic opioid) production would shift to domestic. She also makes zero mention of the fact that there was no fentanyl crisis until the government cracked down on prescription opioids and heroin. The evidence has increasingly grown over the last decade that these crackdowns made everything immensely worse.

She supports Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs, which have been increasingly shown to cause harm, and there’s basically no evidence they do any good. She thinks ONLY overprescription causes problems (or at least this is basically all she talks about, regarding prescriptions), and totally neglects how refusals of prescriptions, and forced tapering of patients already on prescriptions, has caused devastation to so many pain patients. She wants even MORE punishment against doctors who “overprescribe,” with no acknowledgement of how punishing doctors has already caused devastation and led many doctors to just abandon pain patients, or give Ibuprofen to surgery patients (no, seriously!), and much more. She thinks we can tell a doctor is “overprescribing” if they prescribe more than their peers in the area, which is ridiculous. She is going to make already horrible problems even worse. At no point does she ever mention policies of other countries. She never mentions Canada’s safe supply movement. She never mentions drug user advocacy for methadone in the Netherlands. She never mentions Finland’s drastic reduction in homelessness. She never mentions Portugal’s decriminalization. She never mentions Switzerland’s heroin-assisted treatment program. If only other countries besides America existed, which we could draw ideas and evidence from!

She seems vaguely friendly to decriminalization, which is better than some other politicians, but she never comes out and says it. I can only assume this reticence is because of political cowardice. Even conservatives and cops tend to say boilerplate stuff like “We can’t arrest our way out of this crisis” these days, but it means nothing if in practice they uphold criminalization. Also she never once mentions harm reduction, except naloxone—nothing about needle exchange, nor supervised consumption sites, nor drug-checking, and certainly no legal regulation. Pathetic.

She says there are no lobbyists on the issue of opioid addiction, nobody who makes money on it. This is a bizarre false statement. Many abstinence-only rehab providers make a lot of money. Many methadone clinic providers make a lot of money (and for many, their financial model would be threatened if the draconian restrictions on methadone access were lifted, so there’s an incentive against helping patients gain access----though I think Petterson might be in favor of making methadone easier to get?). Many people and organizations (often corrupt ones) have been seeking and making a lot of money in the various massive lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies, leading to a bizarre mixture of true and false allegations against the companies, and misuse of funds obtained.

Pettersen says doctors who prescribe drugs need more education on addiction. I agree. But what sort of education on addiction? She doesn’t say. The anti-opioid hardliners who have been extremely influential for the last 10 years often believe ludicrous things, like equating addiction with physical dependence (a mistake prevalent in the anti-opioid-company lawsuits), or they deny the existence of pseudoaddiction. For a pretty decisive case that pseudoaddiction is real, see Scott Alexander's "Against Against Pseudoaddiction."

Pettersen correctly points to lack of adequate access to addiction treatment. But she doesn’t mention the prevalence of pseudoscience and abuse in addiction treatment. Getting more people into pseudoscientific and abusive rehab would do no good—it needs to be good treatment.

More facts she never mentions: Opioid prescriptions have been cut in HALF over the last 10 years. And yet (1) prescription-opioid-involved deaths (which always mostly involved other drugs too—mixtures, not just one opioid, and largely among non-patients) have flattened out, and more importantly (2) total opioid overdoses have skyrocketed to absolutely unprecedented heights. Opioid prescription reduction most likely caused this problem in the first place. And she wants to do MORE of it.

Toward the end, Pettersen and the host pat her on the back for how sane and bipartisan she is. They’re drinking the Kool-Aid. This is just more prohibitionist ideology, in its modern watered-down more politically-correct form. They do not defend drug prohibition with evidence or arguments. They rig the whole framing of the issue, to put serious questioning off the table, so it doesn’t even occur to anyone that something different and better is possible. It’s vile bullshit, don’t be fooled.

Liam's red-rimmed eyes looked at his brother, and he said, "He changed the law. I can't believe he terminated RG- 7 visa status three days before the wedding, and the state offices are closed. What good is all this power if I am just following the laws he made that can not be overturned? He has stolen our happiness together, and now with this law, he is taking my ability to just see her in any capacity."

"Liam, we will figure it out," Leo assured his brother.

"Leo, I don't know what to do. I just need time to rid myself of this marriage. But if she doesn't have status in the next day or two, she is gone forever, and there is nothing I can do."

"Liam, I will have to go to archives to find the canon law to refer to. But I can outmaneuver this. The archives are only open to the sovereign and their regent...which is you. I need your permission to enter. And I need an order from you to restore my Bastier privileges.

"Of course you have it." Liam quickly began working on the order.

Bertrand took a deep breath. "I have come to talk about your intentions of staying here."

"Bertrand, I came for the wedding. I haven't thought past that."

"We are forever grateful that you have. I regret to inform you that your RG-7 visa has been revoked."

Jessica's lips trembled, and she began to cry. "What?"

"Jessica, it means that you will have three days after the wedding to settle your affairs and return home."

Jessica took a deep breath. "OH. Then I guess I will just reapply for a travel visa and come back after settling back home."

Bertrand sat next to her. His eyes began to water. "Jessica, you cannot come back. The status is extended to Royal Guest as a suitor you were a guest of this house. With the ending of Social Season, you are not. For you to be granted privileges to enter as an unmarried suitor with no relations to a royal house, Liam would need to sign for your entry."

Jessica smirked. "Well, of course, he would. I will be back as soon as I can."

Bertrand's voice wavered, "The Queen would also need to sign… We all know she wouldn't because you are a threat to her even if you are not in that..." he paused, then said, "Cordonian arrangement."

"So I won't even be able to see my friends or come back to my second home?"

Bertrand reached for Jessica's hand and said as his voice wavered, "You will be prohibited from reentry for either five, ten, or 20 years. It's even possible that you will not be allowed to return at all. It is out of Liam's hands. Should he divorce, the ban remains intact."

"God, Constantine made sure to not just screw me out of a future with Liam. He made sure I would never see you guys ever again...at least in person on Cordonian soil. All I'm guilty of is loving Liam."

"Jessica, I have not been able to offer you financial assistance, and it is a regrettable shame that I couldn't. You have comported yourself with grace and dignity, and we are proud of you. Jessica gave Bertrand an embrace that he accepted without hesitation.

Bertrand then said, "However, this means that you are in my care. SO if someone would like to court you, they will approach me as it is our custom."

1 day later ...

Ramford Vineyard

The sibling adoption ceremony took place at 3 pm. Jessica proudly wore her house colors light blue. Her dress was a stunning A-Line scoop neck knee-length chiffon cocktail dress with ruffles as she signed the document that would tie her to the Beaumont's forever the late Duchess's ring adorned her finger a gift from Bertrand. The brothers wanted to tie her to their house not in name but spirit by bestowing her an heirloom that would have been passed down to her if she were a natural-born daughter of their house. In their hearts, they knew their mother would have never objected to her personal effects being passed down to someone so loved by them.

Jessica gave them both a glowing smile as she stood in front of Liam, who oversaw the proceeding. He looked at her signature, and his heart ached. It was signed as Jessica M. Garcia - Beaumont instead of Jessica Garcia - Rys. The document notarized in the house sigil a cephalopod instead of the sigil he yearned to give her his mother's house sigil a Phoenix. The Beaumont's were able to give her the things he couldn't. He gave her a soft smile, happy she was staying in Cordonia but uncertain of their fate by the end of the week, he would be married to Madeleine. He wanted so badly to abdicate in Italy, but she wouldn't allow it, and now the only way to love each other until he was free was to do so in secret.

Liam collected himself and said, "Lady Jessica of house Beaumont, you are now bound to this house not only by name and but by spirit. Cordonia welcomes you with open arms. I look forward to signing the order that makes you a subject loyal to its crown in due time."

She gave him a deep, flawlessly executed curtsy taught to her by Bertrand on her first night in Cordonia, Leo turned to them with a camera in hand and said, "Okay guys, big smile on the count of three say 'Swear Vest.'"

A rare proud smile formed on Bertrand's face as he got closer to Jessica, and both he and Maxwell placed their hands behind her waist.

Leo counted down "1 2 3."

Jessica, Maxwell, and Bertrand smiled as they said in unison 'Sweater Vest.'

Years later ...

Ramford

Jessica froze as she walked into the Beaumont Estate...So many memories coming back to her. Even more so when she saw Bertrand ordering a staff member at the staircase.

"Maxwell! There you are! Where have you been off-" He faltered as he turned towards them. He looked genuinely surprised for only a moment before schooling his features. His aristocratic training coming second nature.

"Ah, Lady Jessica...It seems you remember your way back."

Jessica came towards him, Maxwell right beside her. Bertrand scowled at his younger brother before barely suppressing his glare at Jessica.

"Bertrand-"

He caught her off with a polite raise of his hand.

"I do not care to hear any half apologies or excuses. You did what I suppose you needed to do. You just wanted a life of your own. Why you couldn't do it here will remain a mystery to me. I did, however, expect more from you."

His words cut deep before he sighed, his features softening.

She felt her chest ache when she saw the hurt in her old mentor's eyes.

"We never knew what happened to you or if you were okay… We waited for a letter, at the very least. I couldn't even find you a suitor to marry you into another house so you could stay and try to live life here. This house was broken and had no prestige; we had nothing to offer anyone."

Jessica felt offended at his accusation.

"What? Do you think it was about money?! Or prestige?! Damn it, Bertrand!- I would have married Liam if he was a regular guy; his status didn't matter to me."

He interrupted her with an enraged glare. "Why else would you abandon us?!" He argued.

"Bertrand-" Maxwell interjected but shut his mouth from a glare shot his way by his older brother.

"I love Liam. That's why! Because I couldn't share a life with him. Whatever we did have was only temporary until he ran back to being  Madeleine's husband. I was not meant to be the other woman. I wanted to be the only one, but I couldn't. So, I wanted to try and see if I could find someone to share my life with or at least have some sort of purpose."

"All we knew was that we did EVERYTHING in our power to help you! You were our family. We accepted you not only into our home but our lives. All for you to leave without even a proper goodbye. It's Liam's place to tell you about his heartbreak, but it's my place to tell you about ours. Savannah, Bartie, Maxwell, and mine! You were close to all of us. My son looked for you, my wife cried over you, Maxwell found comfort with the loss of you with Drake. I had no one to talk to about how much you left a void in my heart. Again, another woman that just upped and left."

Jessica's stomach sank as she saw tears forming in Bertrand's eyes.

"Bertrand…" She whimpered, reaching out to him. He shrugged away from her.

Bertrand reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, and handed something to Jessica.

"You keep a photo of us in your wallet?" Jessica asked.

Bertrand looked at Jessica and said, "Yes. Since the day it was taken. It is what the American's do when they love someone. They carry pictures of people they love in their wallets to reminisce. I adopted the custom. I can't tell you how many times I found myself looking at that picture and wondering what life you made for yourself in our absence." His voice cracked. It made a tear escape her eye to gently fall down her cheek. Her heart hurt badly at seeing how painful her disappearance had made it for those she loved.

Jessica opened her wristlet purse and pulled out the same picture. "I spent the most meaningful years of my life here and learned so much. I hated walking away, and as the years passed, I held on to this picture, wondering if I could ever be your sister again."

Bertrand walked over to Jessica and gave her an embrace. They stood there silently, crying into each other's arms. He whispered to her, "Tungsten, you are where you belong." Jessica sniffled and whispered, 'Mr. Rogers. Thank you for loving me. I missed you all." After a few moments passed, another set of arms wrapped around them, and she could feel his warm tears on her as his soft voice spoke, 'Blossom, I'm glad my dance partner is back. It was never the same without you. '

Danny is an almost 200 year old caitiff that has spent the vast majority of that time avoiding interactions with other kindred, acting as a patron deity/ghost known as 'Fish' to the downtrodden, and amusing himself with breaking into any possible building he can.

Embraced at 12 and having self isolated with obfuscate for so long his social skills are... weird.
