Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Mixed Feelings
Late to the party, as usual, but let’s talk about Kimmy for a minute.
Watching Season 1, I pegged the show as undoubtedly one of my favorites. I found Kimmy totally relatable--here I am, a 24 year old acting half my age, bemused by the world, walking around in contented obliviousness, and just constantly expecting the best from people, thinking everything I say is clever or funny. Then Season 2 happened, and while I still loved it, some aspects were getting a little iffy for me, like the commentary on "social justice warriors" and Titus putting on makeup to look Asian (more than a little iffy on this one). The Season 3 became even more doubtful with is ludicrous depiction of feminism and "special snowflake" millennials, and the insinuation that being rich and white does not equate to innate privilege (in Xan's case), and I'm like of course you would say that, Tina Fey, because you're rich and white. Then simultaneously making fun of trigger warnings and accurately depicting Kimmy's triggers when it comes to her trauma. Then Season 4, in two parts, with its ups and downs. First of all, that mockumentary was hilarious, and I needed more of it. But the whole storyline with The Reverend just didn't seem like it got wrapped up for me. I loved Kimmy writing that book and the kid calling her asking about it and explaining how it made him feel, and Kimmy realizing that she can make an impact through art. And the second part of Season Four holds one of my favorite episodes of the season, where we get a version of the story that may have happened if Kimmy hadn't been kidnapped. Her speech at the end was gold--she hates what happened to her, and wishes it hadn't happened, but there's no going back to change it. It made her what she is today, and as awful as that is, it's what happened. I think a lot of us who've experienced trauma can relate to that. Growing up home schooled in an abusive family f*cked me up, but if I'd gone to public High School, I'd probably be dead. So although I wish every single day that my childhood could have been less painful, I recognize that the experience is what got me where I am today. That, I think, was exceptionally pulled off in the show. But I'm still confused about other aspects of the show and trying to muddle through them. If anybody has any insight, hit me up. It's been bothering me since May 2017 when Season Three came out.

i gotta be honest and maybe controversial but the dude who stood outside a movie theater the day of opening night for avengers endgame yelling spoilers at everyone isn't like....a martyr or smth, y'all know that right
and not because "hburr durr hOw dARE he sPOIL MARVEL FANS!!" it's because he was being a fucking prick
like i know a lot of really excited people nerd out over that fandom and a lot of people take it too far, but this is a long beloved project that's finally reached a culmination so many people have waited over a decade for and the fact that dude literally just decided to ruin something they really really enjoyed because it was fun for him was an ASSHOLE move and i don't have any sympathy for him??? like i don't think he necessarily deserved it but the fact he got beat up isn't shocking or saddening. it's the real world.
ppl on here complain all the time about how no one goes outside or knows what common kindess/politeness is and everyone's so used to saying shit that would get them knocked out irl, but you know what? that guy did it. he said bullshit to people irl, purposely trying to upset and provoke them, and guess what! IT WORKED! act like a jackass, you get treated like one.
it's not rocket science. he was being fucking mean. you don't act like a jerk and get surprised when someone tells you to square up for it. if this was ten years ago and someone had sat outside a theater for half blood prince telling everyone about dumbledore's death you KNOW the EXACT same thing would have happened because it's the exact same situation and i would feel the exact same way.
like i know it's cool to hate on marvel rn bc endgame hype is annoying everyone who doesn't fucking care about it and that's fine, you don't have to, but please stop acting like this is some sort of Big Social Commentary on the Sudden New Trend Of Violence or something?????
it is not that deep.

Tumblr mobile offered me a new feature today called “groupchats”. Is that available for everyone, or do you think they’re doing that viral thing like with messaging where they hand it out to a few people and let it spread as people message each other?
If so, anyone want an invitation to a group chat? I’ve mostly so far just been inviting, um... LGBTQ+ people who seem to be riding the inclusionism train? and fans who make cool stuff and don’t advocate bullying or social justce clout games? (Though to be honest I’m worried about inviting some of my friends, since I’m afraid they are too good, too pure, for what will very likely end up a raw torrent of Tumblr Discourse. Should I make a second groupchat? Can anyone make a groupchat? I DON’T KNOW.)

Dany did some things wrong
DISCLAIMER THIS POST COULD BE CONSIDERED ANTI-DAENERYS THIS POST MOST CERTAINLY IS ANTI-DANY-IS-FUCKING-PERFECT IT’S CRITICISM, NOT HATE
“I will answer injustice with justice” is one of the most famous Dany-quotes out there, but I hate to break it to you: She answered injustice with injustice.
Since Dany is about to land on Westeros, I’d like to go back to the moment I stopped rooting for her. The one reason I really, really, don’t want her to rule the Seven Kingdoms:
Her sense of justice is similar to that of an old-testimonial god – and that is not a compliment.
The execution of the 163 Meereenese Master was a crime. It’s telling of the show’s bias towards Dany that it is never treated as such. It’s the most fucked up thing she ever did on the show and no one seems to care about it.
I’m not saying that abolishing slavery is wrong. I’m also not saying that inhuman institutions like that shoul only be opposed non-violently. It should be fought with all means possible and not be uphold to prevent some “collateral damage”. I’d say it’s a cause worthy of sacrifice if there ever was one.
I think it’s really hard to judge her sacking of Astapor. She did what she did, to end slavery there. She tricked the masters by “stealing” the Unsullied, because she needed an army to do that.  Killing everyone in the city, except for children and slaves is pretty excessive. I fully understand people, who critizise her for this, but I don’t feel comfortable calling it 100%-absolutely-wrong neither.
But what she did in Meereen was different. Slavery was abolished the minute she took the city. She was Queen. She had all the power in that situation. Ser Barristan even reminds her that all these people are her subjects now.
Tumblr media
I don’t fully agree with what he says neither. The men (and women ?) who crucified those children do not deserve mercy. The people guilty of that crime should be, have to be punished.  Did you notice how I phrased that? The people guilty of that crime.  We later learn through Hizdahr that not all masters are guilty. That some spoke against it.
Of course, the big question behind all this is: Can any master be considered “not-guilty”? Can anybody profiting from an institution like slavery really be “innocent”? Maybe not.
But do they automatically, just because of their social class, deserve to be nailed to a cross, alive, condemned to an exceedingly slow, painful death? Does anyone really deserve that?  I don’t think so. Should we really root for a protagonist who thinks they do?
Everyone living in a first world country today (as much as I hate that term) profits from some really, really, really dubious shit. Like it or not, you lead a comfortable life at the expense of other people every day. People in many parts of the world suffer for your clothes, your food, your oil, just most of your stuff in general. Maybe we shouldn’t be so fast to judge.  Keep in mind: As someone living in a rich (western) country you have more in common with the masters of Meereen than you would like to admit. There, I said it.
Tumblr media
I understand the statement Dany (and the show) are trying to make. You are NOT better than your slaves. Your lifes are worth exactly the same. Killing the same amount of masters, in the same gruesome fashion IS a powerful statement for change. It certainly satisfied some primal desire for retribution. But is it justice?
Chances are, Dany didn’t even get justce for the murdered children. Chances are, the monsters responsible for that weren’t among the people she randomly picked.
Because she didn’t care who was punished.  She only card that somebody was punished.
And the show doesn’t adress this. Yes, we get that one scene with Hizdahr, but even in that her moral reasoning wasn’t questioned. Hizdahrs father being innocent was reduced to one big SHIT HAPPENS.  In the end, the audience is supposed to agree with Danys decision. She’s framed as being right and Hizdahr is wrong. The conversation ends with Dany being the good guy because she allows his father to be taken down and properly buried. That should set things straight. When Hizdahr brings up the fact that she sentenced him to a horrible death without a trial, for a crime he was opposed to, she shuts him down immediatly. And we are supposed to agree with her.
Tumblr media
Right after that we are reminded of the one problematic-ish trait the show allows Dany to have: her dragons and her inability to control them. Turns out, having them around could actually be dangerous. If only she could control them, everything would be a-okay.
She is never forced to deal with the horrible things she’s done as a person. They never have any consequences for her. Even the resolution to the Sons of the Harpy absolves her of all responsibility . They didn’t gain popularity with the people because of her actions, but because the Masters of Astapor, Yunkai and Volantis paid and threatend prostitutes, apperently?
Speaking of the Sons of the Harpy, what about the time she precautionary burned some random people alive? She doesn’t know wether they’re guilty – she even admits that herself.  Maybe she just burned an innocent man alive. Maybe - just maybe - that guy was the best fucking person in whole Meereen. Maybe he opened a fucking orphanage and provided free healthcare for the poor. Unlikely, yes, but the point is that WE DON’T KNOW. DAENERYS DOESN’T KNOW. BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T CARE.
Tumblr media
By the way, the “big reveal” in season 5 implies that the Sons of the Harpy were exclusively(?) supported from the outside. Did I get that right? So she did indeed burn an innocent man alive. Good thing Dany (and we) never have to deal with that. Because who care? Dragons are cool. Burn some masters. Really, who gives a fuck? Burn them all.
She didn’t learn from that expierence neither, since she does the exact same thing to the Dothraki two seasons later.
Wouldn’t it have been really interesting if the real culprits weren’t among the 163 people she executed? If the people who tortured and murdered those children were the ones behind the Harpys, still running free, still killing and crucifying Unsullied and former slaves. If Dany had to deal with that?
Just imagine, what could have been if she actually had to deal with that? If she found out that some of the people SHE KILLED spoke up in her favour, that some of them wanted to surrender peacefully. That some of them were decent human beings.
Tumblr media
Some of the people (former slaves and masters alike) try to take one of them down, because he was a well-known advocate against slavery. The Unsollied stop them, but still,  they try to spare THAT ONE from this horrible faith.  Because THAT ONE was a good person.  Because THAT ONE saw the injustice of the system he was living in and tried to change it.  Because THAT ONE does not deserve this. Maybe the one next to him treated slaves as terrible as he could, maybe the one next to him deserves to die, but THAT ONE DOES NOT.
And THAT ONE matters, because THAT ONE paid.
Tumblr media
If Dany really wanted justice, it should matter to her too. Justice should only punish the guilty. The penalty should fit the crime.
Punishing people only because of their social standing is what dictators do. It’s what tyrants do and so is justifying the brutal murder of people.
I am not saying that Dany is completely evil. She just isn’t as rightous as people make her out to be and this isn’t even the only issue I have with her. The Lords of the Seven Kingdoms have a better jurisdiction than the one Dany is bringing with her.

My 10 Fave Babes of All Time
Tagged by @faecakes. Thanks! (I loved your selection btw~).
I think I did this one a while ago but I took the chance to make this my first drawings of the year :pp to start warming up again ww. These are in no particular order.
1. Horokeu Usui (HoroHoro) / Shaman King.
Horo was probably my first masive 2D crush. I obsessed over him like a psycho lol. I learned every single little thing about him (and I mean trivial stuff like... the exact numbre of frame, page and volume for his first appearance xd), the meaning of his name, the name of his techniques (which were in Ainu). Oh, and also, SEIYUUS! Horo started my obsession with making seiyuu connections x) (I was never really fan of Ueda Yuuji, tho). And I really admired Horo... I felt he was like my soulmate, my perfect husbando. So, based on priority right, he should be like my #1 bae :')
Tumblr media
2. Hinata Hideki / Angel Beats!  &  Kuga Aki  / Kamisama Dolls.
I'm putting them together because they're both special characters to me for the same reason: I knew Kimura Ryouhei because of them, and I loved him from the very beginning. Coincidentally, I started watching Angel Beats and Kamisama Dolls at the same time, and the contrast between these two characters, voiced by the same seiyuu, made me fall in love completely. They're both so different. Hinata is a bright, loyal, energetic boy while Aki is this manipulative, rude, meticulous, violent guy (though he's also super calm and indifferent about certain things). Hinata had me loving his voice changes whenever he was put into ridiculous and funny situations while Aki got me melting becasue of his manic laugh. I love Hinata & Aki both as characters, not just because of Kimura, but they're the perfect examples of why KimuRyou is my fav seiyuu <3 <3
Tumblr media
3. Kise Ryouta / Kuroko no Basket.
Oh boy..... my love for this man burns like a thousand suns bursting, ISTG. He's too pure too good to pretty too shiny too precious for this world. Ok, I admit... Kimura Ryouhei is partly at fault here lol. Kise actually reminded me a lot of Hinata and I liked him from the start too, but soon I started loving every single little thing about him. He's introduced a little as an arrogant dude but soon enough comes to change after his loss against Seirin (I loved it when he cried sddsffg). He's like the cheerful, carefree member of the group, but he also shows so much determination, strength, and even selfishness. But I really think he's the most admirable of the Generation of Miracles. And he's so pretty I wanna cry everytime I see him, sob.
Tumblr media
4. Judal / Magi.
Yes, the Kimura Ryouhei syndrome continues... but I swear it's coincidence(?). Judal caught my eye since I saw him in the opening (that sequence when he's falling, grabs a white rukh and turns it black it's mesmerizing), but when he was finally introduced in the show, I WAS DOOMED FOREVER. Goddamn, I loved his personality. Even if he's a little bit of a psycho, I loved his childish arrogant attitude. He's like my twisted son ♥ Except... not really a son, because... he makes me feel things 6//6 (???). Aahaahgsdjhk yes yes ok, I love his design, really, L O V E   I T ♥ ♥.  His long braid, those beautiful ringed eyes, the makeup on them, the necklace and bracelets, that crop top, those abs, DAT WAISTLINE  aksjdhjkashdkjhgasgasd ⁄(⁄ ⁄ ⁄ Д ⁄ ⁄ ⁄)⁄ He needs his own manga, there's just never enough Judal in my life.
Tumblr media
5. Nozaki Umetarou / Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun.
I've said this before, but it me. Nozaki is me, I am Nozaki (except I'm not tall and handsome lol). Looks cold, mostly serious, suuupr dense in some subjects (specially about love and romance), zero experience in love... but somehow still makes love stories! His shoujo manga is terrible haha but he's surprisingly popular as mangaka in spite of that x) I bet if I were to draw a manga it would be as ridiculous as his (or if my comics serve as an example... well, there ww). He has this stoic aspect, but he makes the most idiotic faces when he gets excited too~  I think Nozaki is more socially skilled than me but we're both awkward anymway(?) xD. He's my spirit animal ♥
Tumblr media
6. Netherlands & Finland / Hetalia.
Ah, my time in the Hetalia fandom... feels so distant :') Italy was my fav at first but then I started roleplaying Fin (the first chara I ever roleplayed) and my love for him kept growing from there. He was just too adorbs <3 I got to know a lot of super nice people, both on the internet and irl, because of him. Also, back then I listened to lot of metal music, and I always pictured Fin as a secret metalhead xD And then Netherlands... I don't remember exactly how I started liking him, I remember they released the chara design, stuff happened, and then there I was cosplaying the dude. Hahaha ah, even though I loved Fin, I couldn't identify with him cause he's super cute,  happy and lovable; but Netherlands was more like me~ Stoic, cold, tsundere. Over time, Netherlands became my favorite over Fin, but they're both special.
Tumblr media
7. Furukawa Nagisa / CLANNAD.
My precious child. The purest girl ever created. A National treasure, istg. She's not the type of female characters that I usually like, but somehow she got me from the start. She's too adorable, sweet, innocent and good. She's just too good!!!!!!! She's always caring for others, always supportive of her friends, and tries her best even though she's phisically weak and lacks confidence. She's so strong and admirable, she makes my heart melt. CLANNAD made me cry rivers and hit me hard when... well, when After Story happened. She's the type of character that I want to protect from all evil. I also LOVED Nakahara Mai's performance as Nagisa, btw. I kept watching her scenes over and over just to listen to the cutest voice akjshd <3 I really love this child ;//;
Tumblr media
8. Licht Jekylland Todoroki & Lawless / Servamp.
Well, as you would expect x) It's probably obvious that I love them both so hard. And I want to clear up for the records that it's not just because I love them together, or the homo hints flying all over the place between them. I love them both as separated characters. I really admire Licht. His resolution, his unbreakable spirit, his attitude, the hard worker he is, his strength, his pure innocence about the things he loves, his vision, his badassness, his frankness, his creativity...  He's a gem, the type of person I could never be :')  ALSO, HE'S HOT AF. Lawless is so beautiful. He deserves the universe. I feel him more in a spirital way. How he lost faith in everything, how meaningless lives seemed to him, the vicious cycle he was in. But the fact he's able to change that (with Licht's help) is truly touching and praiseworthy. He made a deep impression in me. Ah, and of course, his flamboyant personality! He's such a dork ahah xD I love his nerdy side, his energy, even his bragging. And the fact that he can literally go from hotdamn vampire to cute hedgy in no time is amazing xD ♥ Also, his voice.... yeah, you know this by this point, but the fact he's voiced by Kimura Ryouhei makes him even more perfect than he already was (everytime I listen to the Drama CDs, I literally have to go back and listen to his lines again because kjahsdjkg perfection in my ears). So yeah, I love my boys ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Tumblr media
9. Morgiana / Magi.
Ah, Morgiana ♥ ♥ The ultimate example of the type of female character that I like. She's strong, kind, determined, tough, has a strong sense of justce, needs no one to do shit for her, BUT she's not arrogant, aggresive or extravagant herself. She's quite, starightforward and helpful. But she's also soooo adorable and cute!! The way she puffs up her cheeks when she's mad, her smile, the little tears on her eyes when he was encouraged by Hakuryuu, her happy face, the way she dances around wearing that exotic outfit... man she is gorgeous, she's amazing, she's a goddess. And dem kicks, THE KIIICCCKKKS, god she's a BADASS. She seriously became like a prototype of my perfect gurl. No kidding, after her, everytime there's a badass fem chara that I like, I call her "a Morgiana". And I know she's probs being "controlled" by Sinbad in the manga right now, but I cried when she said she has come to love herself because of all the time she's been with Alibaba. I'M SO PROUD OF HER <//333
Tumblr media
10. Special mention to: EVERY KIMURA RYOUHEI CHARACTER.
Agh, I just.... it's amazing how without a miss, characters voiced by Kimura always become my favourite. I always love them, for one reason or another. I mean, I have other seiyuus I love too (Kaji Yuki, Nakamura Yuuichi, Ishikawa Kaito, Sugita Tomokazu, Kamiyan....), but I don't always like their characters. But with Kimura, I ALWAYS do. I don't know all of his roles, obviously, but here's some that I absolutely love:
Takakura Shouma [Mawaru Penguindrum]  |  Yagami Riku [Prince of Stride]   Nishimi Kaoru [Sakamichi no Apollon]  |  Atou Touji [Tokyo Ravens]  |  Hauser [Nanatsu no Taizai]  |  Izuminokami Kanesada [Touken Ranbu]  |  Wakamatsu Hirotaka [Nozaki-kun]  |  Fujimoto Takatora [Aoharu Kikanjuu]  |  Kimata Hayato [Meganebu]  |  L-elf [Valvrave]  |  Furuya Chihiro [Sankarea]  |  Bokuto Koutaro [Haikyuu]  |  Shimotsuki Shun [Tsukiuta], etc....
- Special mention 2: Jorah Mormont, Eddard Stark, Jon Snow. Because I love GoT, and these are my favs, but I can't draw real people ww.
I’m tagging @pastenaga, @stars-glow-for-you, @adeslowmoqueen, @rhomilch & @reimeijennoir~ Feel free to do it if you want uvu/ Don’t worry guys, you don’t have to draw the charas to do this www Actually, you don’t have to write anything about them either lol my hand slipped(?)

since it’s hanukkah and people might be paying attention to jewish people for once, some stuff to note
don’t call a jewish person a jew unless you know they’re okay with being called that
antisemitism is still very real (you’d be surprised how many people ‘forget’ this)
goyim (or gentile) means non-jewish person
undermining and erasing jewish traditions is antisemitism
if you say to ‘get over the holocaust’ or anything along those lines i will come over and bash your head in with our spare menorah
Don’t tell someone they can’t be Jewish because “they don’t look like a Jew.” That’s not for you to decide.

young social justice convinced they're less egotistical than they are
"tone policing . . .?" tone-shaming, basically . . . doesn't that phrase - lumping it into forms of shaming rooted in prejudice against entire groups being disadvantaged and symbolically bludgeoned - really just trivialize anti-shaming endeavors? especially the way that it's used. now, whenever you stand up against someone shaming you, if you lose your cool, and they call you out, you use that as license to stray from your original objection and focus on someone reacting to your tone? of course, since you use the word "policing" none of this applies, because constant focus on semantics. totally the point.
i understand being angry, i understand standing against it, i understand not being able to regulate yourself all the time, but HONESTLY the people who use the word tone-shaming seem to be more interested in self-regulating as little as possible and using rhetoric to justify choosing the easier option: SPEAKING UP IS HARD NO MATTER WHAT, but speaking up when you're angry without being an asshole is EVEN HARDER.
if you honestly believe in that kind of expression, fine. i think deliberately keeping yourself emotionally unregulated during times of anger makes you an asshole, categorically. BUT EVEN THOSE who try and sometimes fail to regulate their speech when they're angry - understandably - at what point is this "tone shaming" really part of a larger aversion to just checking themselves.
when you get attacked it is easier to fight or flight. choosing fight is just as reactionary as fleeing. choosing to disarm yourself and educate people is THE REAL FIGHT. and even beyond tone-shaming, being retaliatory and unregulated as a mode of change - if that's what you legitimately believe works - is objectionable but valorous in some sense, and less objectionable if you inflect an agitated affect for those purposes even if you are otherwise regulated emotionally.
but i honestly think that in moments of retaliation against injustice, people ARE USING THEIR PAIN AS AN EXCUSE to be mean. being mean back feels good in the moment. are you really a poster-child for your cause or are you a poster-child for doing whatever the fuck you want that just happens to be a cause?
"I see your sentence means something. It conveys some form of affect that I find objectionable. What the fuck were we talking about? I think it actually served a greater purpose for a party that consists of more than just my egoic sensibilities - wasn't it like how we shouldn't make people feel like they should kill themselves because they're not straight? But, I mean, we really need to focus on the way in which you said something to me about the way in which I said something to you, much more important than content or context."
"I'm totally invested in my cause for reasons that are of a greater proportion concerned with the wellbeing of others rather than just having something I like to talk about, show people how much I know about, and use as an excuse to be a jerkass and/or anti-status-quo. It really comes from a place of responding and social-consciousness, not just something that happens to sound that way but is actually just something that makes me stand out and serves as a trigger for me to react and then constantly rationalize my objectionable means of addressing the issue . . . an issue I promise is the real reason why I fight. But, please, don't try and tell me anything - or even engage in any discussion that might include something I already know - since I know so much about the issue because I keep myself educated and up-to-date from various sources and make it my duty to stand up against this with so much bravery and gumption, but I promise I don't discourage that people talk about it amongst each other, just don't talk to me because you'll probably say something I already know because I spend a lot of ti- . . . ."
