I'm sorry but I'm just thinking about fire following Sofia through her life:
- her orphanage burning
- her lighting Katya's cigarette with a match when they meet
- "you could've been my sun"
I'm losing my shit ngl

the fact that katya shoots andrey after goncharov's funeral will never not be insane to me. she could have killed him right after andrey kills her husband after her betrayal, but she chooses not to. she hangs onto the gun and kills him before getting on her train out of naples and this was DELIBERATE like she didn't just decided on the fly. she gave him the opportunity of attending the funeral probably as a last favour to sofia and i will not be the same again

My husband is a man who collects things he can use. A pistol, a pocket-watch, a woman's love, a wife....
I'm obsessed with That Scene(tm) between Katya and Andrei in the California Director's Cut Rerelease of Goncharov, so I did a lighting study inspired by the film's Art Deco Posters! Little details like Katya never referring to her husband by his first name really add to Andrey and Katya's tense dynamic, which is one of the most underrated parts of the movie imo.

GONCHAROV (1973) dir. Martin Scorsese
“It funny because for many years people thought Goncharov was the main antagonist of the film, after all, he’s the one everyone’s out to get, right? But it seems people are starting to understand that in actual fact, it is time that is the main adversary in this story. There’s never enough of it and that torments a lot of characters, especially Goncharov, because he’s fighting so desperately to find his place in a world that is so keen on keeping him ostracized.”

Hey y’all I’ve been looking through the Goncharov (1973) posts, and it seems like most people aren’t aware of the master document, which has all the lore, behind the scenes, and plot breakdown. It’s collaborative, so we can all make sure we get the most accurate depiction of everyone’s favorite movie :)

i keep seeing you guys be conflicted about how watching an actual goncharov movie would be super cool but then ppl say “yeah but it would ruin it!”
so here’s a pitch for you
a goncharov II movie. no first one, for obvious reasons. but they make a sequel and everyone who KNOWS will know and everyone who doesn’t will… well, you know. perfect way to continue the joke without completely ruining it and see a movie.

alright ik mariella dies in like the first 10 minutes of the movie but i can't stop thinking about how different andrey and sofia's dynamic used to be before her death. ik the movie is more or less kickstarted by that so no death = no movie, but that's their little sister!!! ofc her murder would change the sibling dynamic!!! sofia was all business with who was her older brother excepting a couple of lines and andrey's v cold to her (tho mostly to him so i read that as him proyecting but that another post) excepting when she dies!! and he practically lets mario kill him!!! literally the only reason he doesn't die is because mario wasn't trying to kill him but goncharov and andrey wasnt letting that happen (AND LATER HE KILLS GONCHAROV HIMSELF BUT IT'S NOT A VICTORY OR SWEET AND THATS ANOTHER POST) and im left wondering if they were always distant but loving or if mariella's death broke them and that became the beginning of the end for the daddanos

Gaslight, Gatekeep, Goncharov
The Clock Scene and the constant reminders of it throughout the movie really hit me as you can see, you cannot get the Gonch without the Clock 😌
Best Scorsese movie ever, I cry every time i watch it.
Thank you @beelzeebub you cured my artblock✨
