Anand Jayapalan on Why Software-Defined Storage is the Key to Future-Proofing Your Data Infrastructure
Anand Jayapalan: Exploring Software-Defined Storage as the Future of Scalable and Flexible Data Solutions
In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, the need for scalable and flexible data solutions has reached an all-time high. As businesses generate vast amounts of data, traditional storage methods are increasingly being pushed beyond their limits. This is where Software-Defined Storage (SDS) emerges as a game-changer. For data storage solutions experts like Anand Jayapalan, SDS represents a transformative approach that decouples storage hardware from the software that manages it. This separation offers unparalleled scalability, flexibility, and efficiency—crucial for meeting the demands of modern, data-driven enterprises.
In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the demand for scalable and flexible data solutions has never been higher. As businesses continue to generate massive amounts of data, traditional storage methods are increasingly being stretched to their limits. This is where Software-Defined Storage (SDS) steps in as a game-changer. By decoupling storage hardware from the software that manages it, SDS offers unprecedented levels of scalability, flexibility, and efficiency that are essential for modern data-driven enterprises.
As organizations grow and their data needs expand, the ability to scale storage solutions without significant hardware investments becomes critical. SDS allows companies to do just that by leveraging commodity hardware and abstracting the storage management layer. This abstraction enables businesses to scale their storage capacity seamlessly, whether they are handling on-premises data, cloud storage, or a hybrid environment. With SDS, the days of being locked into expensive, proprietary storage solutions are numbered.
Moreover, the flexibility offered by SDS is unmatched. It provides the agility needed to adapt to changing data requirements and workloads without the need for disruptive hardware upgrades. Whether you're dealing with structured or unstructured data, SDS can dynamically allocate resources to meet the specific demands of your applications. This level of customization ensures that businesses can optimize their storage infrastructure to maximize performance while minimizing costs.
The Advantages of Implementing Software-Defined Storage in Your Organization
One of the most significant benefits of SDS is its ability to simplify storage management. Traditional storage solutions often require specialized knowledge and manual intervention to manage, scale, and troubleshoot. In contrast, SDS automates many of these processes, reducing the need for specialized skills and allowing IT teams to focus on more strategic initiatives. This automation not only improves efficiency but also reduces the risk of human error, which can lead to data loss or downtime.
Another critical advantage of SDS is its ability to enhance data availability and resilience. By distributing data across multiple nodes and providing built-in redundancy, SDS ensures that your data is always accessible, even in the event of hardware failures. This level of reliability is essential for businesses that rely on uninterrupted access to their data for daily operations.
Finally, SDS delivers substantial cost savings compared to traditional storage solutions. By utilizing off-the-shelf hardware and minimizing reliance on costly, proprietary systems, businesses can achieve equivalent levels of performance and reliability at a fraction of the cost. For IT professionals like Anand Jayapalan, SDS's ability to scale storage resources as needed is particularly advantageous, ensuring that companies pay only for the storage they use, rather than over-provisioning to anticipate future growth.

So Why Linux?
If you've followed my "Adventures in Linux" tag at all then you know I am a technical layperson. I use my personal computer primarily to write and browse the Internet.
So why am I switching to Linux? A taskbar.
Let me explain.
In Windows 11 right now, you cannot move your taskbar from the bottom of the screen to the left side. You can move the icons in the taskbar, but if you want to go vertical, you're out of luck.
This has irritated more than just me, especially because you could in Windows 10, 7, and etc. Microsoft chose to remove functionality.
If you search online, you'll see plenty of posts in forums and on reddit asking about this missing feature. If you want a vertical taskbar, you have to download an additional program. (StartAllBack is what I got; it isn't free).
Microsoft seems uninterested in adding this functionality back.
To me, this suggests that they have an idea or vision for how users interact with their computers, as if a right and wrong way exist. Individuals don't matter; only the vision (and sometimes the majority) do.
It isn't just a taskbar.
When you open Windows 11 (Home) for the very first time and try to install Firefox, you may find that you can't (at least you couldn't when I reluctantly upgraded). The application simply isn't trusted enough to be in their app/software store, which is the only place from which you can install new programs.
If this happens to you, you're likely in S mode. Getting out of S mode is a very non-intuitive process. I'm sure plenty of people don't bother.
Microsoft uses S mode, which they claim is for security, to limit options and further define how people interact with their computer and the Internet.
It isn't just S mode.
I used to use Microsoft 365. When my computer bricked last year, 365 was a godsend because I, foolishly, did not have my documents backed up anywhere else. I did not mind paying each year for cloud storage and the Office Suite.
Then I learned that the price was jumping and all because of Copilot, a feature I wish did not exist. A "classic" version with limited AI was available, but likely only for a year.
The offer of a limited time "classic" subscription felt like a sop to irritated users who did not want to pay more for an unnecessary (unethical, environmentally unsound) "feature." A temporary placation until the noise died down and Microsoft could kill Classic quietly.
All in all, I felt like Microsoft had decided that Windows was their program that I, as a user, was simply lucky and blessed to be able to use and therefore should be grateful to use it as they dictated rather than as I wanted.
I'm not a power user. I'm not in the tech industry. My coding experience is limited to when I played with Python a decade ago and Choicescript, which I use to write my interactive fiction.
But, I have preferences. I like my taskbar to be vertical and aligned to the left of my screen.
I do not think it is that large an ask to want a computer that works how I want it to work, that lets me interact with my files and the Internet the way I want to rather than the way some far-off company decides I have to.
So that's why Linux. Yeah, it is harder to set up at times, but not as hard as some posts and articles make it seem.
I'm sharing my experiences with it to hopefully make someone else's switch easier.
Ultimately, it is just an operating system. I'm sure there's a lot I don't understand or am not appreciating, but, aside from some very minor hiccups, it works.
It works and lets me do what I want; what more could I want?

Derad Network: The Crypto Project That's Taking Aviation to New Heights https://www.derad.net/
Hey Tumblr fam, let's talk about something wild: a blockchain project that's not just about making money, but about making the skies safer. Meet Derad Network, a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) that's using crypto magic to revolutionize how we track planes. If you're into tech, aviation, or just love seeing Web3 do cool stuff in the real world, this one's for you. Buckle up-here's the scoop.
What's Derad Network?
Picture this: every plane in the sky is constantly beaming out its location, speed, and altitude via something called ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast). It's like GPS for aircraft, way sharper than old-school radar. But here's the catch-those signals need ground stations to catch them, and there aren't enough out there, especially in remote spots like mountains or over the ocean. That's where Derad Network swoops in.
Instead of waiting for some big corporation or government to build more stations, Derad says,"Why not let anyone do it?" They've built a decentralized network where regular people-you, me, your neighbor with a Raspberry Pi-can host ADS-B stations or process flight data and get paid in DRD tokens. It's a community-powered vibe that fills the gaps in flight tracking, making flying safer and giving us all a piece of the action. Oh, and it's all locked down with blockchain, so the data's legit and tamper-proof. Cool, right?
How It Actually Works
Derad's setup is super approachable, which is why I'm obsessed. There are two ways to jump in:
Ground Stations: Got a corner of your room and a decent Wi-Fi signal? You can set up an ADS-B ground station with some affordable gear-like a software-defined radio (SDR) antenna and a little computer setup. These stations grab signals from planes flying overhead, collecting stuff like "this Boeing 737 is at 30,000 feet going 500 mph." You send that data to the network and boom, DRD tokens hit your wallet. It's like mining crypto, but instead of solving math puzzles, you're helping pilots stay safe.
Data Nodes: Not into hardware? You can still play. Run a data processing node on your laptop or whatever spare device you've got lying around. These nodes take the raw info from ground stations, clean it up, and make it useful for whoever needs it-like airlines or air traffic nerds. You get DRD for that too. It's a chill way to join without needing to turn your place into a tech lab.
All this data flows into a blockchain (Layer 1, for the tech heads), keeping it secure and transparent. Derad's even eyeing permanent storage with Arweave, so nothing gets lost. Then, companies or regulators can buy that data with DRD through a marketplace. It's a whole ecosystem where we're the backbone, and I'm here for it.
DRD Tokens: Crypto with a Purpose
The DRD token is the star of the show. You earn it by hosting a station or running a node, and businesses use it to grab the flight data they need. It's not just some random coin to trade—it's got real juice because it's tied to a legit use case. The more people join, the more data flows, and the more DRD gets moving. It's crypto with a mission, and that's the kind of energy I vibe with.
Why This Matters (Especially forAviation Geeks)
Okay, let's get real-flying's already pretty safe, but it's not perfect. Radar's great, but it's blind in tons of places, like over the Pacific or in the middle of nowhere. ADS-B fixes that, but only if there are enough stations to catch the signals.Derad's like, "Let's crowdsource this." Here's why it's a game-changer:
Safer Skies: More stations = better tracking. That means fewer chances of planes bumping into each other (yikes) and faster help if something goes wrong.
Cheaper Than Big Tech: Building centralized stations costs a fortune. Derad's DIY approach saves cash and spreads the love to smaller players like regional airlines or even drone companies.
Regulators Love It: Blockchain makes everything transparent. Airspace rules getting broken? It's logged forever, no shady cover-ups.
Regulators Love It: Blockchain makes everything transparent. Airspace rules getting broken? It's logged forever, no shady cover-ups.
Logistics Glow-Up: Airlines can plan better routes, save fuel, and track packages like champs, all thanks to this decentralized data stash.
And get this-they're not stopping at planes.Derad's teasing plans to tackle maritime tracking with AlS (think ships instead of wings). This could be huge.
Where It's Headed
Derad's still in its early ascent, but the flight plan's stacked. They're aiming for 10,000 ground stations worldwide (imagine the coverage!), launching cheap antenna kits to get more people in, and dropping "Ground Station as a Service" (GSS) so even newbies can join. The Mainnet XL launch is coming to crank up the scale, and they're teaming up with SDR makers and Layer 2 blockchains to keep it smooth and speedy.
The wildest part? They want a full-on marketplace for radio signals-not just planes, but all kinds of real-time data. It's ambitious as hell, and I'm rooting for it.
Why Tumblr Should Stan Derad
This isn't just for crypto bros or plane spotters-it's for anyone who loves seeing tech solve real problems. Derad's got that DIY spirit Tumblr thrives on: take something niche (flight data), flip it into a community project, and make it matter. The DRD token's got legs because it's useful, not just a gamble. It's like catching a band before they blow up.
The Rough Patches
No flight's turbulence-free. Aviation's got rules out the wazoo, and regulators might side-eye a decentralized setup. Scaling to thousands of stations needs hardware and hype, which isn't instant. Other DePIN projects or big aviation players could try to muscle in too. But Derad's got a unique angle-community power and a solid mission—so I'm betting it'll hold its own.
Final Boarding Call
Derad Network's the kind of project that gets me hyped. It's crypto with soul, turning us into the heroes who keep planes safe while sticking it to centralized gatekeepers. Whether you're a tech geek, a crypto stan, or just someone who loves a good underdog story, this is worth watching.
Derad's taking off, and I'm strapped in for the ride. What about you?

1995
Have you ever been to Las Vegas? Nope.
What did you have for breakfast this morning? Just half of an egg sandwich. I was planning to eat loads for lunch since it was going to be my birthday eve celebration, so I intentionally didn't eat a lot for breakfast.
Do you have any loose change in your pocket? In what's actually a pretty rare thing, I don't have pockets at the moment haha.
Do you like Taylor Swift? Nope.
What’s your favorite Disney Channel movie? High School Musical :)
If you met your favorite celebrity, would you be calm or star struck? I mean I kinda met J-Hope and my reaction was everything I expected it to be: I couldn't look at him dead in the eye and I stayed frozen/mostly silent. LOL. That said, starstruck is the most accurate answer.
Are there any lights on in the room you’re in? Yeah, my main light is turned on for a change. I don't want to fall asleep yet, so I need to keep everything bright.
What’s your favorite subject in school? My favorite was always history. :) Though in my elementary years when history wasn't yet incorporated in my curriculum, I liked language best because it was just basic English grammar and vocab and gave me easy 100s.
What’s your favorite holiday? New Year's! I like that it's not tied to religion lol, but also the 'fresh start' vibe it gives everybody. The parties are also always just so fun.
Do you ever have to do yard work? The closest would be, like, having to pull out weeds in our backyard when we didn't have the place paved yet.
Is your school close to your house? Idk how would you define close? I'd say it was, though -- speaking solely for where I went to college. It was like a good 6-7km away, which was bearable enough of a drive for me.
I can't really say the same for my elementary/high school, which was well on the other side of the city + it was a daily drive up a literal MOUNTAIN. The commute was admittedly draining, considering I did it 5 days a week, 14 years straight.
Speaking of school, how did you get there today? I haven't been in school since 2020.
Do you think Bad Romance is a catchy song, or an annoying one? SUCH a catchy, great song. It was very fresh for its time and it makes it easily understandable why Gaga just immediately blew up the way she did. To this day I'd mark out if I ever heard the song out in public, haha.
Are you currently using a laptop? Yeah, I also exclusively use a laptop when taking these.
Do you have any live versions of songs in your music software? I don't consume music like this anymore, i.e. buying or saving albums to have them in my library...I use Spotify where I can easily access the albums I want to listen to, including live ones.
Did/do you listen to Britney Spears songs? I do listen to her sometimes especially if I turn on a 90s/00s playlist, but I don't think I've ever sought her out specifically.
Is it a windy day? I mean there was wind here and there but all it did was blow hot and humid air our way. Not very helpful.
In the past week, have you ridden in a taxi? No. It's been years since my last taxi ride in the Philippines. I did hail taxis a couple of times in Japan back in January, though. Mainly because I knew their drivers were going to be honest and polite and will not at all rip me off lol.
What shorthand do you use the most? Quite a lot. lol, lmao, ngl, tbh, iykwim, icymi, fyi, fyr are just select ones I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure I use a few more.
Do you ever wish on stars at night? Sometimes, if I'm feeling childlike/romantic.
What color are your eyes? They're brown, but very dark brown that they nearly appear as black.
What album is the current song you’re listening to off of? It's an album called Coup d'Etat, by G-Dragon. It's one of my favorites :) Not a single miss.
What are you doing after you finish this? I'll continue trying to figure out what I can delete from my phone to free up storage. I'm already transferring gigabytes' worth of stuff at the moment to my Google Drive, but I do feel like this'll last me the entire evening (2:20 AM as we speak...) so I'm fully locked in.
Reason why I'm doing this is my mom surprised me with an Apple Watch just this midnight for my birthday, but apparently I can't link it to my phone unless I've had the latter updated to iOS 18 -- which I haven't been able to do because STORAGE and because I'm TERRIBLE at backing up my files. Anyway so now I'm like mass-transferring videos to my Drive and deleting 4 years' worth of photos I've been hoarding but never look at anyway and hoping this'll be enough. I'm SO excited about this fucking watch so I'm just frustrated that the surprise was a bit anticlimactic for me all because I'm LOCKED OUT FROM MY OWN WATCH HAHAHAHAHA
In your opinion, what song is the most overplayed right now? For a very long time it was APT, so I'm glad that kind of stopped now. I don't think anything's super overplayed at the moment.
Are you in a band? Nope.
How clean is your bedroom? Enough for me not to feel antsy about it.
Is there a pen within reaching distance of you? I don't think so, nope.
Are you sitting at a desk? Yessir.
Does your favorite band have a male or female lead singer? Female.
Do you normally shut your bedroom door before you go to sleep? Yes, but then again my door is always closed as I prefer it to be.
Have you seen the movie Moulin Rouge? No.
Would you ever dye your hair a different color? I would and I have. I've gone with ash brown; then purple around 3 or 4 times at this point; then brown; then red. I'm definitely dyeing it a new color next month since I'll be at another concert, but I'm still torn between orange or teal.
Are there any framed pictures in the room you’re in? Yes.
Have you ever been to a Broadway show? Not at Broadway, but I've been to a musical production if that counts as anything lol. I watched Miss Saigon last year.
What’s your favorite movie soundtrack? Continued from...man, who knows. A week and a half ago I think? I will always swear by the Twilight Saga: New Moon OST.
Do you prefer group or individual work? It depends on the work. If the work is heavy on my strengths then I could get by alone. Then obviously I'd feel the opposite if I'll need to do something I'm not particularly good or confident at.
Do you have a key to anything besides your house? My car.
Are you wearing anything with stripes? Yes, my top has stripes!
What time did you go to sleep last night? I have no idea- it must have been anywhere between 3 to 5 AM.
Did anyone tell you you were beautiful today? Nope.
What show did you last watch? When Life Gives You Tangerines. I don't think I will continue it though... 16 episodes for a K-drama is too long for me.
Do you think you’ll do anymore surveys today? I always say I will then I end up not touching this blog again for another week or so, so probably not.
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Cookies and cream :)
When was the last time you stayed home from school sick? *Work, but 2023 when I was out with a really really high fever. It had just been a little under a month since I recovered from Covid, so falling sick again almost immediately had been equal parts worrying, frustrating, and amusing.
Could you ever complete a 500-piece puzzle? I did but it was done with someone else. Not sure I'd have the patience to complete one all by myself.
If you could run a red light and not get caught, would you? Never.
Do any bands flat-out annoy you? There are some K-pop groups that do lol
Do you have a mirror in your bedroom? Yup.
Was today a birthday for any of your friends? No.
When was the last time you rode in a limo? I've never been inside one.
Do you take naps daily? I don't.
Do you still make Christmas lists? I mean I start an Excel sheet so I don't lose track of 1) who to get gifts for, and 2) what gift to get them - if that's what you mean by list. I don't make wishlists of what I want as gifts though.
Do you watch the show Dexter? I started it many many years ago but it just could not reel me in. Then again I heard the finale sucked? or like the final season or whatever it was? so I don't feel any fomo about never completing it.
Have you ever been to any sort of convention? I went to the very first YouTube Fanfest in Manila when YouTubers were still a thing - it was I think in 2015 and the Jaspoli trio were at their absolute prime and came in as the headliners.
I've also attended a few conventions for work but I don't feel like getting into them because duh work and I was barely interested in them.
Which song did you last listen to on repeat? Probably Untitled, 2014 by GD -- I listen to it multiple times a day and I'm pretty sure it will easily take the cake of my most-listened-track in my future Spotify Wrapped.
Where do you want to live when you grow up? The city.
Are you currently using a blanket? I have no use for one at the moment.
Are there any songs that make you cry? There isn't a song that makes me cry every time I hear it, but yeah I can think of a couple that can very easily get me caught up in my feelings and have my chest feeling constricted and heavy. One is We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal by BTS; the other is First Love by Suga.
Still Life by Bigbang is also the newest member of the club.
How many siblings do you have? Two.
What are you doing this weekend? I'll need to hyperfocus on making the bracelets I'm giving out as concert freebies because GD's con is just a little over 2 weeks from now and I'm planning to handmake 88 pieces!
Do you prefer swimming at the beach or in a pool? Beach, always.
When was the last time you had a haircut? Around 3 weeks ago, for Hobi's con.
Which musical instrument do you think sounds the prettiest? I can never pick among piano, saxophone, and violin.
Do you know what you want for Christmas? I have an idea haha but nothing too specific!
Do you watch fireworks on New Year’s Eve? Yes, it's always been a family tradition.
Is your birthday within the next three months? No, it just passed.
How long is the song you’re listening to? 3:19.
Are you anticipating anything this week? Just for me to get tired because of work...
Is your mom or dad the older parent? Dad is but only by 8 months - they were born in the same year.
Do you watch anything on E!? I used to when I was younger but does that channel still even exist? Hahaha I'd have no clue tbh I exclusively use apps on the TV now.
Are you going to get off the computer now that you’ve finished this? Yeahhh, I'll need to start making more bracelets. :)

Integrating Third-Party Tools into Your CRM System: Best Practices
A modern CRM is rarely a standalone tool — it works best when integrated with your business's key platforms like email services, accounting software, marketing tools, and more. But improper integration can lead to data errors, system lags, and security risks.

Here are the best practices developers should follow when integrating third-party tools into CRM systems:
1. Define Clear Integration Objectives
Identify business goals for each integration (e.g., marketing automation, lead capture, billing sync)
Choose tools that align with your CRM’s data model and workflows
Avoid unnecessary integrations that create maintenance overhead
2. Use APIs Wherever Possible
Rely on RESTful or GraphQL APIs for secure, scalable communication
Avoid direct database-level integrations that break during updates
Choose platforms with well-documented and stable APIs
Custom CRM solutions can be built with flexible API gateways
3. Data Mapping and Standardization
Map data fields between systems to prevent mismatches
Use a unified format for customer records, tags, timestamps, and IDs
Normalize values like currencies, time zones, and languages
Maintain a consistent data schema across all tools
4. Authentication and Security
Use OAuth2.0 or token-based authentication for third-party access
Set role-based permissions for which apps access which CRM modules
Monitor access logs for unauthorized activity
Encrypt data during transfer and storage
5. Error Handling and Logging
Create retry logic for API failures and rate limits
Set up alert systems for integration breakdowns
Maintain detailed logs for debugging sync issues
Keep version control of integration scripts and middleware
6. Real-Time vs Batch Syncing
Use real-time sync for critical customer events (e.g., purchases, support tickets)
Use batch syncing for bulk data like marketing lists or invoices
Balance sync frequency to optimize server load
Choose integration frequency based on business impact
7. Scalability and Maintenance
Build integrations as microservices or middleware, not monolithic code
Use message queues (like Kafka or RabbitMQ) for heavy data flow
Design integrations that can evolve with CRM upgrades
Partner with CRM developers for long-term integration strategy
CRM integration experts can future-proof your ecosystem

The Detective's Banquet 5
Writer: Mitsuki
Character(s): Shino Hajime, Mashiro Tomoya, Hidaka Hokuto, Harukawa Sora, Tomoe Hiyori, Kazehaya Tatsumi, HiMERU
Translated by: jewwyfeesh
Hokuto: It’s a detective’s job to pursue the truth. I promise you, I definitely will.
Location: Dead End Cafe
Hokuto: (After escaping, I nearly got lost in the hotel… finally found a familiar room after running around for who knows how long…)
(After receiving the character introduction, I’d thought that the Android’s design was steeped in the shadow of my father, and felt some subtle hostility… But having enhanced physical abilities isn’t so bad.)
(If it were the normal me, I’d be panting away after running around… And yet, I’m barely breaking a sweat right now. I even escaped the storage room virtually unscathed earlier on.)
(Tomoya probably didn’t think I’d escape from that kind of place. This blind spot surfaces from his habitual way of thinking – I’ll need to point this out to him later on.)
(After calming down some and thinking about it, it does seem rather quiet here… It really makes your blood run cold…)
(Surely not…)
Location: Luxurious Hotel Room
Hokuto: Tomoya…!
Tomoya: …?!
Hokuto: Why did the ‘Armchair Detective’ collapse here? Were the both of you attacked just now?
Tomoya: Ah… Er… Um… about that…
Hokuto: Oh, something fell from your pocket. No. Wait. This is… a tranquilizer?
The ‘Armchair Detective’ does seem to have been sedated… Did you…?!
Tomoya: …………
…………
I… Don’t want to lie to Hokuto-senpai.
You guessed correctly. I am the murderer that everyone’s been working hard to identify… Arrest me, then.
Hokuto: Why would you do this? It’s not like you have an ulterior motive.
Tomoya: …No, I do have a motive. But now that things have come to this, I still hope that it’ll be able to stay a secret forever.
Hokuto: It’s a detective’s job to pursue the truth. Even ‘Bionic Detectives’ have the right to know the truth. As a detective yourself, you should be well aware of this.
Of course, I’ll keep it a secret on your behalf. You can trust me – after all, Androids are unable to lie.
Tomoya: …Android, huh? That’s right, that’s the answer to all of our problems. Hokuto-senpai… No, Android 3A1217, do you remember why you were developed?
Hokuto: I am an android that was created with the purpose of obtaining human emotions through learning. But the me who was unable to to comprehend them suddenly gained exceptional deductive abilities. From then on, I became the ‘Bionic Detective’.
Though, it seems like the company that made me has been experiencing some technological bottlenecks recently, as they have yet to update my software for quite a while…
Tomoya: That’s because the project has already been called off! And, in three days, you’ll be recalled and destroyed!
Hokuto: I see. Is it because my mission has come to an end?
Tomoya: NO, it’s not that…! The meaning of Hokuto-senpai’s existence, why should those people be the ones defining it?!
I’ve already decided. No matter what, I’ll ensure that Hokuto-senpai lives on.
That day, there was a mysterious man in black who approached me, and we struck a deal — I’ll help him assassinate Sakuma-san, and in exchange, he’ll help me save Hokuto-senpai…
The second I agreed, I already knew a day like this would come. Though… What I didn’t expect was that… In the end, the one who pointed the gun at me would be you, Hokuto-senpai.
What a cruel twist of fate… I had wanted to keep this from you since the very beginning…
Hokuto: …………
Tomoya: Hokuto-senpai, you… You’re crying…?
Hokuto: I… I’m crying? This bitter feeling… Is this a human emotion, one that I’ve always been unable to understand?
Why… As… As an Android, my mission is to protect the people… So… Why? Why would you go to such an extent for me?
…There is only one truth, and I understand everything clearly now. The culprit is you, and the motive is me.
Tomoya: All of these are choices that I myself made, so please don’t cry because of me. I did commit an irreversible crime.
Maybe back then, I had more than just this path in front of me… But it’s too late to say it now… Thank you for all the time that you’ve spent with me. The only thing I won’t ever regret… is saving you.
If you want to do anything for me, then please conduct a thorough investigation of the truth behind our backs. About Sakuma-san, about that mysterious man in black…
Hokuto: It’s a detective’s job to pursue the truth. I promise you, I definitely will.
Location: Seishou Hall Common Room
Hajime: Waaaah~ Tomoya-kun was super handsome in that last part! I couldn’t look away~
Thinking about how after the game’s formal release, I can even watch Tomoya-kun’s spectacular acting in the SSVRS… It really feels like I’m dreaming ♪
Tomoya: T-that’s too much… If you continue on like this, I’ll go find a hole to hide in…!
Hajime: Sorry, I got a little carried away… Still, were those lines thought of on the spot? Truly phenomenal~ ♪
Tomoya: To be honest, Theatre Club conducts a lot of improvised performances as part of training. Upon finding out that I’ll be performing alongside Hokuto-senpai this time, I did lots of homework beforehand.
Not to mention… even though at that time I’d thought Hibiki-senpai was running his mouth without much rhyme nor reason, the tasks that he assigned us allowed me to reevaluate how I’d approach acting this character and look at it from another perspective. So part of my success could be attributed to him.
Hokuto: I, too, underwent some special training for this role; I’m glad our efforts didn’t go to waste, seeing that the final result turned out pretty good.
After this, I’ll need to continue working hard — I won’t let my junior one-up me when the time to perform comes.
Tomoya: Hokuto-senpai is so cool…!
Tatsumi: Oh, right. HiMERU-san, how did you uncover the truth in the end? Even though we encountered some problems during the initial phase of deduction, I did find it rather entertaining. Thus, I’m particularly curious about the reasoning process in the last phase.
HiMERU: (……Why can’t this person ever read the room?)
As for HiMERU’s thought process, let’s discuss it after the game has been released. At that point in time, everyone will be able to showcase their unique talents whilst on a level playing ground.
Hiyori: Hehe, when that time comes, I’ll be the most spectacular one for sure ☆
Sora: HiHi~ Sora will play with you all then! It’ll be very fun for sure… ♪

A thought about Miis, and where they should go next console (in my opinion)
I started playing Tomodachi Life again recently, and while I think it's a great game, at the top of my mind, especially coming back to it as a nonbinary was how gendered it is.. the game rarely EVER addresses Miis with gender neutral pronouns, and even goes out of the way to do things like say "he/she", explicitly avoiding gender neutral options.. now while I think they probably could've done better with avoiding gendered language, I think the elephant in the room here is the fact that Miis in themselves are explicitly gendered. Miis have two defined settings for gender, and really for the devs there isn't much way around that. That got me thinking about Miis in general, and thinking in the grand scheme, I think I came to a conclusion..
Honestly this might be the weirdest request ever but I really wish Nintendo would just overhaul Miis completely, not in terms of artstyle or anything but just in general implementation. Miis are staying rather stagnant in a world that's moving forward.. whenever Nintendo needs to do something new with Miis, it's always on a software level, the clothing in Tomodachi Life, the makeup and wigs in Miitopia.. Xbox's little goblins, whatever they were called, back in the 360 era had clothing styles, but here we are in 2023, and the most recent way that's still around to freely accessorize your Miis is a game from 2013 released on a VERY dead console, otherwise the clothes are tied completely to your gender, and you wear either a dress, or a shirt. In my honest opinion, I think there are a couple reforms Nintendo should make for Miis next time they have to reimplement them.
Do away with genders (or at the very least, make them an option not tied to pronouns, and also optional) - they already did rather little in the grand scheme of things, the most it ever did in a bios was allow you to organize them by it, and the biggest use case coming to mind in software was forcing heterosexuality in Tomodachi Life.
Make Tomodachi Life style clothes (and Miitopia Switch style make-up) part of the bios - I am going to be honest, as much as the Wii style Miis have their charm, I think the solid color clothing is just looking more and more dated.. In the Wii, the Miis were designed with the ideals of being small enough to fit in a Wiimote's internal storage. Nowadays, I don't think any console would deal with such an issue, and thus the Miis should naturally evolve.. Nintendo already has that useless silver coin digital currency thing, why not repurpose them as currency for clothes? Of course, I'm not saying games shouldn't be able to do their own thing with clothing, that's perfectly reasonable, and is definitely part of the charm with some games like Tomodachi Life, I think Miis should be given more bios wide customization options, I don't think that it should be forced on every game. I think my points about clothing also extend to the Miitopia make-up stuff.
Add the ability to specify a Mii's pronouns - My issue with Tomodachi Life is specifically in it's gendered language, and while I think exclusively using gendered neutral pronouns is an improvement, I know others would certainly like for the game to have that personal touch, and truthfully? I would too! My suggestion that they should exclusively use non gendered terms is specifically in a case where Miis remain as they are; My view on this issue would significantly change if the ability to specify pronouns was added to Miis themselves, either replacing the gender option or working in tandem with it. If such a thing were added, I believe the best of both worlds can be had, with people being able to pick the pronouns that suite them, so games don't have to worry about misgendering someone, the system already has it all setup.
I think some of this would definitely be difficult to implement, but I really do hope features like these come along, not just to make Miis more inclusive, but just generally more customizable. If it's truly a "Mii", I think it should look like me.
