Other than the Zack thing (which I’m not happy about either), how are you liking FF7 Rebirth? I’m only up to Costa Del Sol but I’m so happy with all the characters. Like ecstatic! I love how much depth they’re giving everyone. And everyone is kind of aware of how fucked up Cloud is in the head. And Rufus! I love his sense of humor, or what I’ve seen of it so far. The dude is so funny and such an asshole too but it looks like they’re giving him a lot more depth than the OG game ever did, and I can’t wait to be able to keep playing.

so rufus's characterization is being pulled from the novellas that nojima wrote that take place in between OG and AC. this is how he writes rufus when he's given an opportunity to really write rufus -- which is why i've been able to call so many of his character traits in advance.

nojima loves him. you can tell from his writing that rufus is probably his favorite FF7 character to write.

where the protagonist, evan, meets rufus for the first time

and he's completely floored

he's like

"you're alive?!?"

and rufus says to him, totally straight-faced, "actually it was my body double that died in the explosion, so i'm in the market for another one -- which is why you're here."

and evan's asshole vapor locks, and reno just loses his shit laughing, and evan's panicking like "this isn't funny i don't wanna do this is he serious"

and tseng just looks at evan and goes "evan you're here because the president is your half-brother"

and evan's like

"that's even worse"

and rufus just throws his head back and starts laughing hysterically

Beyond Radio Presents - Castlist 011 - Ep 1 - What I Did Last Summer - The 40th Annual Music Party

This is the first of 3 episodes focusing on a few music-oriented stories from this past summer. The first episode talks about things from my 40th annual music party (the Castlist 002 episodes from the fall of 2018 talk about the #1's at the parties). It was a great party, the weather cooperated and there were a few key moments that I talked about in the episode. Here I am posting the top 50 songs from the party game and the top 50 artists of the last 40 years.

Final fantasy 7 no. 55

1. Au where whenever Cloud or one of the others started having a mental breakdown, AVALANCHE would bust out some kazoos and start playing "Final Countdown" on them

This eventually turns into a full fledged cover of the song, since this happened so often.

It went viral and now Vincent is questioning his life choices

2. Sephiroth reaching out from the lifestream to murder Clouds obsessive stalkers, not out of protectiveness, but out of possessiveness

3. Eldrich Cloud

4. Time traveler Cloud revives the art of "beastmaster" in Wutai to help win the war.

(Also inspired by 7th circle 9th sphere. Honestly, read it. It's awesome)

5. There's a murderer on the loose in Edge and SOLDIERS are being blamed/framed for the killings.

Rufus convinces all the SOLDIERS in Edge, including Cloud, to quietly get out of town without telling anyone, so that the SOLDIERS will have a solid alibi for when the next murder happens. The problem is that There's no murders happening in Edge while they're gone, and instead, the murderer kills a SOLDER before making an attempt on Clouds life while he's there.

Its the same MO as the murderer from Edge.

Aka a classic "who done it" murder mystery

6. Cloud gets thrown back in time by Gaia and turned into a child by Jenova. He lands face first into Nibelheims snowdrifts and pulls himself up and checks his meteria and equipment. He was too small to properly wield his sword, but he was good enough with magic that monsters weren't that much of an issue.

No, the problem was the man in the red coat that Shinra sent to check on the energy disturbance they they sensed there.

Genesis arrived to see a small blond boy in what looks to be an oversized black ensemble and a giant sword with a pink ribbon tied to the hilt, staring at a burning mansion and a thoroughly destroyed reactor.

When he yelled at the kid to get back, the kid summoned Phoenix to further destroy the building. When he enquired about the child's name, he froze. There was already a Cloud Strife in this world, so cloud told a half truth.

"Doctor Hojo calls me "Subject C" "

Judging by the look on the man's face, and the fact he could feel a sleep spell dragging him under, that was the wrong thing to say.

When he awoke next, he was in a very comfortable bed with the red head reading a book in a nearby chair.

The man comforts him, saying that professor Hojo will never be able to harm anyone ever again.

7. Cloud remembered Yuffie teaching him that his name in Wutainese is "Kuraudo " and he uses that as his alias for time travel shenanigans

8. Cloud is a quarter Wutainese

9. Jenova revives herself and her son. After she locates Cloud, she fights him with Sephiroth on the sidelines. The moment she managed to ensnare the blond in a tentacle trap, he knew it was all over.

Instead of killing him, she disarms him, removing all materia and weapons. Before he had a chance to really contemplate this, she had wrapped her arms around him. "My son," she whispered, "My precious son."

It wasn't long before Sephiroth joined her, followed by his remnants, and Cloud was soon surrounded in the most awkward group hug of his life.

It was made worse when Jenova asked about Tifa and when she could expect granbabies

10. Jenova living in Costa del sol as a "normal" human. Too bad Cloud is onto her.

Honestly, she's just surprised it hasn't happened sooner. I mean, really, how many people have silver hair?

11. Whenever tt child Cloud gets mad, he hides in the air vents for a while. No one knows where he is until Cait Sith finds him one day. Cloud swears the cat to secrecy and they begin to play there together often.

12. May or May not be related to #11, Cloud draws a family portrait of him, his dad, his big brother (Zack), and his two uncles. It falls out of his backpack and the firsts coo over it before putting it on the fridge.

High enough that Cloud can't reach it, and thus, can't destroy it. Hopefully.

13. I always considered Genesis to be the suave wine aunt, but I'm liking Dadesis more and more. Also, child Cloud hiding from Sephiroth by clinging to Genesis's leg under his coat is adorable.

14. Zack convinces Cloud to play video games with him and the firsts

15. Cloud staring at mako and wondering why he's so tempted to drink it. Was something wrong with him? Why is he craving mako?

All he knows is that the craving is growing stronger every day

SPN Finale Theory: Part Two

Finale realizations continued--taking off of Part One

Chuck’s Swan Song Finale 2.0 and Cas Omitted

Throughout the show Chuck is still trying to get the brother vs brother end using His own "blunt instruments" by bringing back Lucifer(s7-15) multiple times, giving Dean the MOC(s10), bringing in AW Michael(s13) and possessing Dean(s14). It never works because free will, love and family always wins.

So... all of s15, minus the last 2 episodes, were filled with all the character development we saw develop and arcs that were the product of "running their own race". THEN Cas dies.

Everything Cas represents fades away in ep 19. The last time we hear his voice is corrupted by Lucifer. (But it also canonically confirms Dean loves Cas.) How he changed Dean’s self-worth, renewed Sam’s hope, and Jack himself is all that’s left of Cas to help change the narrative and defeat Chuck once and for all. He died believing this would come to pass because he saved Dean.

You feel the disconnect happen in between Lucifer and Michael’s deaths and Jack becoming the new God. But even with Chuck the writers no longer in power, its reverted back to before Cas ever interfered. Family is back to only the brothers and the plot is back to hunting monsters. The ending for each brother mirrors the finales of the season before Cas meant something to them. Dean got a season 3 finale since Cas meant something to Dean first and Sam got a season 5 finale since Cas didn’t mean as much to him until s6.

Carry On:

Dean’s character has dwindled back down to his car, pie, rock music, and beer of s3. He even loves dogs again as if he’s pre-hellhound death trauma. Sam’s character has dwindled back down to the baby brother that no longer wants to hunt but there for emotional support of pre-s5. Even the damn journal's back and Jenny for some reason.

Dean’s s3 "at least then my life can mean something" mindset AKA before found family-Bobby reminds him it always did and Cas saves him returns. He dies by getting stabbed in the back mirroring how Sam died in s2 which led to Cas & the apocalypse to begin with. Dean desperately tries to accept it and begs to be told its ok for him to die. It’s as if s15 Dean that doesn’t want to die is battling with s3 Dean who always feared but expected he’d die on a hunt. Cas doesn't save him this time. Since Sam went on to apparently live a very hollow, apple pie life where he was mourning his brother the whole time it mirrors s5 Dean’s life with Lisa. Sam builds a family but his wife is just a stand-in, his son is a Dean jr, and all his memories surround the parents and brother he lost. Cas still doesn’t interfere. Sam also needs assurance to let go.

Even heaven isn't post-s5 accurate despite the claim that Jack and Cas built this to be the heaven Dean dreamed of and deserved. Sure, Jan. Cas is supposedly alive and well but it’s not known or is [Omitted]; however, what Cas represents is not in heaven either.

Everything about Dean’s heaven is pre-Cas or pre-apocalypse canon:

Pre-s4 cast of Bobby, parents, and Rufus are the only ones “known” to be in heaven. Leaving out post5 family like Charlie, Kevin, even Adam. Cas witnessed the grief and guilt their loss had on Dean, plus all 3 were already included in s15 (AW Charlie but still Charlie callback). Cas would have had them there, on or off-screen.

Despite Bobby being there as supposed found family, he’s also dwindled down to the Bobby of s3. He doesn’t even get up and hug Dean who he hasn’t seen since s8 which canonically doesn’t make sense for post s3 reunions for Bobby or Dean. You get reunited from death, you hug each other; its the Supernatural law of the land.

Harvelle's is thee bar and only actual setting in heaven instead of Dean's dream of Rocky's Bar circa s14. Which Cas not only knows is Dean’s dream, he stood in it. Cas never went to Harvelle's and the only time it was heaven-related was s5 as a part of Ash's heaven only. Dean never mentions it after.

The heaven beer is El Sol. The same in Dean's djinn dream(s3) AND in the Beautiful Room(s4). Not the beer that they've been drinking in the bunker for years OR the ones in Rocky's that are real-life Jensen's. And not because it's his favorite like in s3/4 BUT because it was his first/with his Dad....that's what we're going with? That's what Dean dreams about? No.

Despite heaven being new & improved, it's actually similar to s5 Dark Side of the Moon heaven. Baby just appears and Dean has to follow the road which can only lead to Sam. Which Cas does witness but...interesting.

In conclusion, episode 20 was unbelievable because it's an illusion of what Sam and Dean's life/fate/heaven would be without Cas changing the story and without Chuck being in charge of it. It's not real. It's a figment of what could have been post-Swan Song. This is exactly why you can watch up to season 5 then skip 10 entire years and still follow the finale. If anything its part 2 of Swan Song that Kripke wanted but didn't get. Jensen knew it. It deleted 10 yrs because it deleted Cas and everything that resulted because of Cas. I have no idea what all was Omitted but I have a feeling the finale was still this s5 nightmare, I’m just thinking maybe it was on purpose.

Cas/Misha persevered despite the 3-6 ep arc role he was supposed to have and continued challenging God's narrative for 12 years. This is why ALL of us that are screaming into the void, can't move on, and hated the finale just so happen to ALSO be Castiel fans or Cas/Dean Girls or Hellers or any fan that saw how Cas's entire arc was the driving force from s6-15. We know #CastielMatters/Energies because without him the show would have died with him as false-god Godstiel. We recognized the profound effect he had on Dean and Sam throughout their character development.

I didn't make any of this up THEY wrote this into being. They wrote the show. They wrote the characters. They wrote the parallels and the very specifically done set design/lighting. We just saw it through a lens that maybe you can't see without being more like Cas. An outsider, self-loathing, trying our best in a world where it’s easy to do our worst, have more faith in love than God, and maybe even be a little queer too. Yes, it was a story that started out as two brothers hunting monsters but they grew up. The whole show grew up and this is NOT how it ends.

Rufus Shinra Food and Drink Headcanons

Major sweet tooth. Keeps hard candy within reach at all times, in his jacket pockets, desk drawers, and in jars around his home. To reduce the extra calories, they're sugar free.

Loves bread and pasta, especially when there's cheese and garlic involved. He doesn't indulge himself much, however. It's too risky to his appearance.

Vegetarian out of rebellion against his father. It stuck.

Seafood was the first meat he gave up. It was easy because he didn't like it.

Everything else he quit all at once when his father said he would never make it.

Loves wine. Is quite the conneseuir.

Everyone has a comfort food. For Rufus, it's a vanilla milkshake.

Favorite dish is broccoli and cheddar crepes

Has developed a taste for greasy cheese pizza thanks to Reno.

Believes Costa del Sol has the best cocktails he's ever tasted. Specifically, a Western Sunset, made with Mt. Corel bourbon.

Missed out on a lot of normal kid type food like chicken nuggets and Mac and Cheese since he was forced to live like an adult his entire life. Is secretly curious about it, but cannot get past the idea of eating meat to try most of it.

Would probably die without cheese. Broccoli and cheese is his go-to dish when he is traveling because even the most remote places have the ingredients and means to prepare it. It's also difficult to mess up.

Consumes customized health shakes to complete his diet and ensure his nutritional needs are met.

Tseng has introduced Rufus to several dishes from Wutai. At first, he thought they were a little spicy but he was able to adapt and now has a much larger menu available to him.

Absolutely despises Banora White fruit. Rufus thinks they're too watery and sweet, the exact opposite of his younger half-brother, Evan Townshend, who claims their his favorite.

Rude loves a good burger and will humor him by grilling a portabella burger for him when he's on duty. Rufus acts unimpressed, but they're delicious and he appreciates it.

Shinra HQ cafes have had highest quality food on Gaia. Rufus volunteered to oversee them as soon as he was brought on. His father thought the project would keep him out of his hair when really Rufus wanted to make sure he had something edible available.

Rufus has no idea how to cook anything at all what so ever. He couldn't identify the oven temperature button on his oven if his life depended upon it.

noah’s parents had a really though time conceiving, for years ! and just when they were about to give up on IVF, they were blessed with twin boys, noah and declan , both chaotic in their own ways and a whole handful to deal with , but their parents loved them with everything they had and then some more. 

he is very much southern, born and raised until the age of fifteen in south carolina until his dad got a job working for the mayor in new york and a significant payrise - so the hearts all moved over here and he  stuck out like a sore thumb at first, some students would tease his accent and mannerisms, but eventually made a lot of friends bc he is very social and cheerful

very much the type to give you the shirt off his back if you were cold, or his lunch if you had none. v much a gentleman

hella musically inclined, & was once very sporty. he is a dj professionally, and has actually travelled a few places to do shows in clubs and festivals !!

noah also played football competitively until graduation , when the day before the big game , he badly injured his back and couldn’t play :)) ur boi still kicks himself about that one, it was his key into college.  he actually did get a second shot at a scholarship for his music and got in to nyu !

kinda clumsy as heck, will trip over air. smokes far too many cigarettes and drinks way too much, curses a lot, skateboards even though he falls off all the time. he can’t cook n pretty much lives off cereal and black coffee.

literally the most cheerful person you’ll meet, tries to look at the upside of everything

* trigger warning; injury & accident - two years ago, noah and his brother declan were in a bad car accident, his brother had been speeding through an intersection and a car drove through a red light and hit them in the passenger side, where noah was. it left him with a pretty serious head injury, and he was in hospital for at least two months for rehabilitation which were absolute hell for him. he had to drop out of college, and the money his family had to spend to keep him well was just far too much. the stress of it all meant that his dad lost his job in the city 

* depression, brain injury trigger warning*  :  after all of this , he fell into a depression and basically stayed in his room the first few months of living in coston after the family moved and lost most of their money on his hospital bills. the guilt of it all being his fault was painful, but his injury and the seizures, migraines , memory problems and sensory issues that came along with it were enough to make him want to sleep and not do much else

he became less of the positive and cheerful person he used to be , a little more frustrated and angry at things , and when he finally interacted with people in coston he didn’t really know who he was, he didn’t know what he liked or disliked anymore because his dj work had indefinitely paused and he couldn’t play his sports. 

he got a job packing shelves at the supermarket after another few months, and made friends with some of the pogues

falls in love at the drop of a hat, but probably wouldn’t admit it.

smokes way too many cigarettes , smells like tobacco, black coffee and froot loops , swears a LOT and probably too much , will drink vodka straight from the bottle , 

sleeps around a lot , & he is quite affectionate 

a bit of a dumbass and is always bruised and battered from falling off his skateboard or a cliff while exploring - there is no in between

Channel Orange - Frank Ocean (actually obsessed with him, he’s in my Top 3 of LIFE!)

Graduation - Kanye West

Man on the Moon - Kid Cudi (his first album<3 I’m biased though because this is my number one guy forever and ever, amen)

Days Before Rodeo - Travis Scott (one of his earlier ones, hes a rapper out of Houston, I went to high school with him soooo I like ride his dick hard haha but hes super well versed and was signed with Kanyes label and works with a wide array of people sooo gotta lot of love for my dude)

Alt/Rock Faves: (This was hard)

Currents - Tame Impala (all time fave artists/group, think they’d make my Top 5)

Sound and Color - Alabama Shakes (they aren’t together anymore :( but the lead singer Brittney Howard went off on her own and she’s amaaazing)

Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers FOR LIFEEEE

Brothers - The Black Keys (I love anything Dan Auerbach, the lead singer; he also had a side band called The Arcs that I was obsessed with - listen to their song “Put a Flower in Your Pocket”

Urban Flora - Alina Baraz (I used to listen to her on repeat, voice is angelic and I’ve seen her live and its just…wow)

H TOWN SHIT:

Astroworld - Travis Scott (his last album from 2018, literally features Tame Impala, The Weekend, Frank Ocean, sooo many more - and he paid a lot of homage to H town in this and sampled alot of OGs lol, but super diverse sound, some chill/slower songs and some hype upbeat shit - def one of my faves)

Con Todo El Mundo - Khruangbin (THESE PEOPLE!! Ok honestly, if I had to pick one album for you to listen to, it’d be this one or their last one - they’re a trio out of H town and they just collabed with Leon Bridges and ahhh they’re just this funky, chill lil psychedelic band thats great for literally any time of day)

Lemonade - Beyonce (I’m just gonna drop the mic and walk away to these one, nothing needs to be said, pure perfection)

UGK - UGK (underground Kingz) basically I wouldn’t be allowed to rep Houston if I didn’t put them on there lol this reminds me of just ridin around town with my homies

R&B/Slower, Soulful Albums: (You will, and should, cry to these lol)

Blond - Frank Ocean (I honestly have no idea which album of his I like more, they’re both fire, hence why they both made it)

November - SiR (he’s signed to TDE, Kendrick Lamars label, and basically I love everyone out of there, but this guys on some other shit - a lot of people prefer his newer album, Chasing Summer, but this is my all time fave)

CASE STUDY 01 - Daniel Ceasar (honestly yet again, hard to pick a top album, as I like them all, but definitely his latest project takes the cake in my book - listen to Cyanide)

Trilogy - The Weeknd - ok, to be fair, all of his albums SLAP. Like, haarddd - so this was tough- but I think I played the fuck out of this the most.

Homage to the Oldies:

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Ms. Lauryn Hill - this babe is an OG in the game, from the Fugees obviously…but this is a timeless piece. If you have Spotify, look up the podcast called ‘Dissect’ - its a series that dives into albums and dissects them or breaks them down song by song, and they did hers among others….so awesome)

Aquemini - Outkast - literally hard to choose a fav album by them, but this one I have jammed the most - sooo many artists have sampled this album too lol so just love it top to bottom.

Axis: Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix - used to jaaaaam this with my parents, timeless.

Exodus - Bob Marley (BOW DOWN TO ONE OF MY TOP 3 FAVE OF ALL TIMEEEEE)

It’s called “AU Where The Turks Find Out That The Tsviets Are A Thing.”

Sometime before the WEAPON attacks (optionally circa Crisis Core’s last act), Reno is being a little shit and hacking into stuff he has no business with and finds out about DeepGround.

Reno, walking into Rufus’ office with the knowledge that there’s an army under the building: 

So rescue mission. With Rufus stepping into Dad’s Secret Elevator (“I always wondered where this went...”) and heading down to check out all his new personnel that are his now.

Most of them are free to go. The minute Rufus sees Actual Child Shelke Rui as what amounts to a prisoner of war, he starts telling people “I’ll either fire you, let you leave, or keep you employed, depending on whether you meet my standards.”

And the Tsviets are nothing if not all about meeting and exceeding standards. They’re high-priority for Rufus.

First thing that happens is mako detox. However that works. I imagine its terrifically unpleasant, accompanied by nausea, fatigue, and general pain while it comes out of the system. (Nero is fine, since I’m pretty sure materia might hurt him? It takes Weiss a while, but he’s on his feet before Rosso, Azul, and Shelke.)

Shelke gets the automatic LEAVE because she’s babie. (She’s sixteen at best by this point, really.) (“Come back in ten years, and we’ll talk.” “Not in your wildest dreams.”)

Azul gets to do whatever. I can see him heading back to Costa De Sol and Fucking Slaughtering everyone in those fighting tournaments.

Which leaves the three lifers: Weiss, Nero, and Rosso. Who probably should be in SOLIDER, but between Weiss’ Utter Perfection and Nero’s easy infiltration skills, those two get recruited to the Turks. Maybe Rosso goes to SOLDIER, maybe Rosso goes to therapy. Who can say?

But Rufus has two brand new Turks, one of whom can basically teleport. And transport inanimate objects and anyone with a Protect materia. And Rufus uses that Protect and M-Protect materia during the Dark Nation fight. So he doesn’t even need Daddy’s Secret Retcon Tunnel. He has a Nero.

But if the Tsviets are hyped-up SOLDIERs, and SOLDIERs are especially susceptible to Geostigma, guess who’s a prime candidate for Advent Children Angst. Probably Weiss more than Nero, since his void is already churning out foreign bodies.

(Geostigma: Who are you? Oblivion: I’m you, but stronger.)

The thing is that Weiss will just let that stigma go and not tell anyone about it. Not even Nero. Because he can totally beat this alone. And he can’t. And he’s got it for months and then just collapses one day. Nero stays at his bedside for months until AC proper kicks off because Rufus tells him he’s going with Tseng and Elena. Which leads to Nero’s very first Real Fight with Rufus, because he’s not going to leave his brother, but he’s also not skipping this mission. Rufus will be able to convince him to go if he frames it right, like “If you go, it will help Weiss more than if you just sit here.”

Nero goes with Tseng and Elena. And, provided he’s quick, he can get himself out, but did Tseng and Elena think to bring Protect materia with them? If not, AC progresses as usual. If they did, he can get them out pretty easily and... AC progresses as usual...?

Back in Healin, Weiss might actually try to fight Kadaj if he’s conscious. He gets the shit kicked out of him, but he tried. When Reno and Rude go to Edge for Reasons, they have to throw Weiss back into bed. Like Cloud, but different.

The Reno/Rude/Yazoo/Loz fight with Nero essentially Flash Stepping around with guns. And it aids and abets his fellow Turks, because if they step into one of his portals, they’re not coming out.  “I’m trying to MOVE, HERE!”  “Move elsewhere.” 

I never got how Rufus got out of those nets. But now there’s an easy answer. Nero just absorbed him and put him on the ground.

When the rain starts falling, Weiss gets to Do The Thing and hear Aerith telling him to go outside. He army-crawls out the door and gets some of that sweet rain water. 

And then Hojo can die in the computer. And maybe Dirge can still happen, with Hojo being a bastard with a synthetic body in the old DG facility?

Flume Making His Ultra Debut As Headliner In 2020 [LEAK]

Nominees for the 62nd GRAMMY Awards were announced this morning, including a nod toward Flume for his mixtape, Hi This Is Flume, released earlier this year. It was nominated in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category alongside The Chemical Brothers, Rufus Du Sol, Tycho, and Apparat.

A press release was sent out by Flume’s team to spread news about the nomination, but it also included some incredible additional information that has not yet been made public anywhere else: Flume will be making his Ultra Music Festival debut in 2020 as one of the festival’s headliners.

The full lineup for Ultra has not yet been announced, though some stage takeovers have hinted at some of the festival’s acts so far, including Carl Cox, Armin van Buuren, and NGHTMRE & SLANDER.
