okay what the hell has dave malloy been through that gave him the ability to write such good coming-to-terms-with-mortality songs

#this is about Hero from Ghost Quartet and Dust and Ashes from Great Comet #i know you don’t have to experience something to write about it. but these are just so accurate to staring death in the face and grieving #through a 6 minute long solo.#maybe he’s just really good at imagining and writing. but i’d guess for these he doesn’t have to imagine #none of my business though. i just appreciate the songs #musical theatre #dave malloy #ghost quartet

Someone wrote a non-spoiler review of the musical on weibo. They seemed to enjoy it a lot despite not seeing the anime. (I've used DeepL Translator for their post)

The plot uhh I'm taking a guess they cover the episodic stories from s1 (noodle lesbians and earthquake arc for sure).

The set appears to have some sort of carousel mechanism. They also use a projector for additional animation/lighting effects. Transl quote: the carousel itself has the intention of the clock, the scenery also has the elements of the clock hand. (which sounds pretty neat ngl)

The person described main trio characters and praised the chemistry between them. It sounded very in character for CXS, LG and QL we know from anime. So it's safe to assume musical did a great job at characterisation. There seems to be a theme of conflict between CXS's and LG's way of doing things. Transl quote: Under the unchangeable important trajectory, friendship, love, family, destiny, regrets, and in the midst of a destiny that can't be changed, Cheng Xiaoshi will never give up his fight. CXC's never-ending struggle, Lu Guang's silence, the weight of knowing where he's going, and the loss of one life after another, and the immense grief that follows, are the tests of their bond..... So like, yeah they got it all right it seems 👌

Ok and for the wildest part that confused me the most and is probably a mistranslation >> I quote: There's a funny part in this scene when Cheng thought he had changed his destiny and made Lu Guang disappear, and when he sang a big solo and confessed his remorse, I thought he was about to lose it. The chemistry of this group is unique.

A review after review after review keeps telling me the Finnish translations of my least favourite musical translator of all times are beautiful and great and brilliant.

Maybe it is I who am wrong, then. Insane, even?

of the skz stuff i've watched so far this comeback, i.n and seungmin on lets eat, seungmin on eunkwang's show and chan on young k's show a month back really are some of my faves and i know you will go Oh well of course seungmin poster, you would think that but it's really because they actually did talk about things and it was more than a parade of wow stray kids got #1 on billboard and i like seeing that!

#like the chan young k one was great bc hearing from him about lil maknae chan and seeing the maknae come out was just inherently funny #then with i.n and seungmin like seeing them doing a different style of thing with the in character improv comedian and actually playing off #him was very fun. like they could have sent them there for no reason nothing to promote and it'd still be as enjoyable #than with the eunkwang show like yeah part of it is fun seeing them interact again but he actually talked to seungmin about other stuff?#like yeah i actually do enjoy hearing that jeongin is scared in the passenger seat and lee know and changbin make fun of his driving #evidently skz work so much that he didnt have a huge amount of stories to tell but their chemistry filled in the blanks #idk i just like when they get spoken to like people who are also idols rather than like they're demi gods or something lol #im gonna watch han and chans one today too that looked good #changbin on hyoeons show too that one was also really fun #its also fun seeing them do stuff solo or in pairs #like human idol theatre is always fun but we see them as a group of 8 all the time

- they didn’t think through the heights of the romanovs which made the family photo hard to stage

- spent the last three classes on. the. same. dance.

oh yeah the way mass effect made me think of portal which is surely what youtube was doing too in sliding me a portal related video which made me think of like ah yes that little harmonizing thing want you gone credits song does, another banger. then i was like wait speaking of secret losersongs filmed rehearsal videos just the other day was reexperiencing like code monkey's really a banger as well, the way that part of the chorus could have one line end on One Pitch then the next line end a half step up but Doesn't & that pwns actually. then going hang on and they're both jonathan coulton. they're All jonathan coulton (adding in: wow just like will putting still alive on his off the shits jared kleinman a.m. pump up playlist)
