So when Solomon Lauter called Steph his October surprise and when he said he's not summoning the LiB ever AGAIN and when no one ever explained what happened to Steph's mother-
What the fuck is up with that?

Thank you for filling my prompt. I really enjoyed reading it.
You could do this as another prompt or you could give you theory on it. What did Solomon Lauter do with the Black Book? Did he make a deal with the Lords in Black? If he did, what was it for and what did he sacrifice?
Personally, I think he probably made some sort of deal with Blinky. After all, he is obsessed with having the right image so that he can maintain power. He spies on his daughter and possible other people too
Thanks so much for sending in the prompt - I had so much fun writing for those characters, and I'm really glad you enjoyed the short story that came out of it!
I like your theory about Solomon and the Black Book, and it made me think about what we know about the Black Book so far. While I could totally see Solomon having made a deal in the past with the LiB, I wonder if his experience with the book was through one of the other spells or rituals that we know of so far, and I think it's connected to the reason we never see Steph's mom.
Maybe he stole her youth, à la Sheila and Sherman in Daddy, but then stole too much and caused her death? Or maybe she did something with the book to go back in time and save him from some evil thing, like Miss Holloway in Killer Track, at the cost of her own life? Or maybe it's something we don't even know that the book can do yet, something that the Langs are waiting to spring on us. Either way, the possibilities are so vast that I feel like - intentionally or not - limiting the Book's power to just summoning and making deals with the LiB is doing a disservice to the power of the Book itself - especially since it's the most likely option we've seen so far to explain Miss Holloway's past, as a few awesome theorists on here have laid out. While I would love another summoning scene like in NPMD (seriously, that scene was so freaking fun), I would love to see a greater exploration of everything else that the Black Book can do.
Thanks for sending me this question - I love talking about this stuff lol

Okay so I took some notes during the Hatchetfield Halloween party stream
This doesn't include spoilers for Working Boys (which was actually fucking excellent) and also doesn't include the proposed NMT3 episode descriptions just because I didn't screenshot and I've seen a billion posts of them going around.
Steph's mum's dead, Matt Lang says it's likely something to do with when Solomon Lauter says about the black book 'I'm never touching that book again'.
Nora is the owner of beanies
Melissa is a serial killer in every reality
The black alters constructed by the church of the starry children: Lakeside mall, Waylon place, the highschool, the starlight theatre, CCRP (formerly the site of the Hatchetfield Gazette)
Greenpeace girl's real name is Harmony Jones
Duke's dad was the sheriff of Hatchetfield and was murdered in October 2005 by Wilber Cross
Linda auditioned for Working Boys but was the only person not to make the cut.
Working boys was originally going to be much longer and more complicated and the black book prop was originally commissioned for it. In the end most of that content ended up getting lifted and pulled into nightmare time episodes. The song 'The Summoning' was originally written for Working Boys as the goal was to trick the cast into performing the ritual. This also originally wasn't supposed to happen in Nerdy Prudes.
They're keen to put the brakes on Hatchetfield at some point soon and the next musical definitely won't be Hatchetfield.
NMT2 ends on a cliffhanger because they originally intended to do NMT3 very shortly after to wrap up some of the loose ends.
Doing NMT3 will depend on demand. Writing a season of NMT takes about 4 times the amount of time as writing a musical and If they did NMT3 they'd want to make it even less zoom cally than NMT2 (i.e. have characters talking to each other) which also takes a lot of time and money. They are very keen to do it on a personal level as the arc from NMT2 currently feels unfinished but doing it will depend on demand.
They're keen to do more film style things akin to Working Boys.
Proposed NMT3 episode 'Bottle Imp' was originally planned to be part of NMT S1 E2.
NMT3 would revolve around Halloween.
They originally thought the musical trilogy would start with nerdy prudes must die and have the sequel be 'horny campers must die' (which became absintence camp), the third in the trilogy would have followed a similar plot to proposed NMT3 episode 'Devils night'.
The soldier referenced in the description for proposed NMT3 episode 'Orbweaver' is General MacNamara.
If they ever did another Hatchetfield musical at some point in the future it would be about Miss Holloway and her origins story.
They want to do a Hatchetfield movie at some point, and Working Boys was a test for how well Hatchetfield transfers over to that medium. This would have to be isolated in location and character list to be feasible. Their current thoughts for this would be 'Cast Party Massacre' which would involve a lot of the new characters we met in Working Boys.

COREY DORRIS as SOLOMON LAUTER NERDY PRUDES MUST DIE Written by Nick & Matt Lang Directed by Nick Lang
[ID: Four gifs of Corey Dorris as Solomon Lauter in Starkid's Nerdy Prudes Must Die. He raises a hammer above his head and starts bringing it down, intending to smash his daughter Steph's phone. She throws herself forward and puts her hand between the hammer and the phone. Solomon stops in his motion, looks at her in disbelief and then straightens up. After another moment of trying to comprehend what she just did, he asks, "...did you just throw your hand BETWEEN the hammer and the phone??'. End ID.]

How to do a Serenade?
Tumblr media
[To impress a Filipino!MC, Solomon decides to practice serenading them in the language via his understanding and awkward practicing in front of the mirror.]
Solomon: "Kahit ako'y 'di mo pinapansin... hindi ako nagagalit sa 'yo"
[His hands are clenching, a serious expression on the mirror as the soundtrack plays on his DDD.]
Solomon: "Pagka't alam ko na ang iyong damdamin para sa 'kin...~"
[Running a hand through his hair.]
Solomon: "Hindi mo lang alam ang aking nadarama 'pag kapiling ka..."
[Dramatically looks at himself, lovestruck gaze.]
Solomon: "Honey...my love... so sweet"
Tumblr media
Luke: "Simeon... is Solomon chanting a spell again?"
Simeon: [chuckles] "No. Far more than that."
Luke: "I'm scared. He's been gawking at the bathroom mirror for over 3 hours now."
Simeon: "Oh what people do for love."
Tumblr media
English Translation of the Lyrics:
Even you ignore me, I'm not angry with you
Because I already know your feelings for me
But you just don't know what I feel when I'm with you
Honey, my love so sweet
This is so random omg 😭

Hatchetfield idea I just had, needed to write :3
Nick Lang, if you have tumblr, HEAR ME OUT:
Anthology series about Hatchetfield history, reenacted by the Hatchetfield Community Players. About 10 to 20 minute episodes, different cast members reenacting different parts of Hatchetfield history (of course not like the lore we know but the history the citizens know). In between parts of the episode and stuff, there could be commerical breaks, like an ad for Pasqualli's, or a staticky ad for a green, fuzzy toy, or an ad for camp idontwannabang. Another thing that could be totally possible is static to the actual historical event, or static with dialouge from the actual event. Like imagine, suddenly, as the actors start to do a scene, it cuts to static and you hear some lore about Willabella Muckwab or The Waylons, or anyone who had influence in their history.
Historical events that would be really interesting to see are:
The beginning of Hatchetfield/The creator of the town
Willabella Muckwab and the beginning of the planting of the Gift
The 1900's (Cults, the beginning of the Honey Queen festival, 'Saving' the town from these evil cultist)
Creation of central building, the history of the shops in town.
History of missing people, when it all started
Obviously, the history of the Starlight theatre (they're theatre kids so of course it needs to be addressed in the series)
Noteable citizens, past and present (e.g. Peanuts, Mima Chamber (she swam the Nantucket channel), Solomon Lauter, The first ever mayor of Hatchetfield, the Founder of Hatchetfield, etc.)
I may have sorta written a ROUGH draft of a first episode because this has given me brainworms. If you have any other episode ideas or general idea, reblog your thoughts sillies :3
