year in review

wanted to reflect on the things i've made this year. here goes nothing!

Games

ghost story is a point-and-click mystery made in unity as my final project for code coven's IGM course!! I genuinely think we managed a pretty solid concept and execution in two weeks, and if you like murder mysteries, this is for you!

lungs to burn is a short poem game made for the may 2023 bitsy jam, talking about wildfires, grief, and queer connection. featured in both indiepocalypse #43 and hand eye society's SUPERFestival. in general, the response i got for this one was kinda overwhelming (and a little confusing), but i'm glad it resonated with people! still very proud of it.

no postage required is another bitsy game, this time made for the trans game dev server jam. a somewhat-sequel to the end is near; or a letter to a lost love. there are definitely things i'd redo with this one but all in all, not too bad!

Zines

Kriah: a personal zine about some of my experiences with antisemitism over the years. definitely a heavy read but honestly i stand by it just as much as when i wrote it? idk as someone who has a lot of trauma from years of antisemitic harassment, this has been a WEIRD fucking year, and it's weird to revisit something i wrote at the beginning of the year that feels even more relevant now.

how to the hold the pain is a collage/web weaving zine i did for this year's blaseball zine jam, using blaseball narratives as a way to view crip theory and vice versa. i spent a LOT of time reading through articles for this (both academic and other) and every second of it was worth it. genuinely one of my favourite things i made all year.

Fic

i wrote a lot less fic this year than the previous two for a multitude of reasons but i still put out a few bangers!! here's a brief selection of my favourites:

swallow your guilt (blaseball, 13.2k), a story about the new seattle garages, the old chicago firefighters, grief, and finally growing up, all through the biased eyes of one baby "ruthless" triumphant

spectroscopy, or a snapshot of a light and that which it absorbs (blaseball, 2.6k), the coda to my bright zimmerman series. i technically wrote this in the fall of 2022 but posted it in march so it still counts.

somewhere there's a fire burning (rogue one, 1k), a character study of bohdi rook between the destructions of nijedha and scarif. my first non-blb fic! and still a banger imo

i play dead, come alive (hatchetfield, 12x100), character study of stephanie lauter during the events of npmd. now officially my most popular fic and honestly i'm good with that!!! i think it's a solid little fic.

just all of corona borealis. i did some good stuff about grief and growth this year y'all.

the back half of this year was mostly filled with portfolio updating, job hunting, and just generally struggling with everything lol but!!! i still made some cool stuff and am hoping to get more back to making stuff next year! it's where i feel most at home. have fun checking these out if you do!

I haven't really asked before but I really like the idea of a ticklish Paul! It's one of the big things that people in office learned about him on accident, I'm not sure where. Emma loves it too, and Paul tries to keep a straight face and neutral tone about it at work but it's one of the things that makes his generally same old same old days memorable. So he does like it. Before Emma, the thing that gave him that spark of 'this is different' was that.

Also I love all this so much. I never really got to do much with tickling, either as a ler or a lee. Most of my family including me has diagnosed autism and doesn't handle ticking well. For my sibs it tends to not be fun at all for them.

As for me, I do like it, and I've discovered all my spots because I self soothe with my hands, which is fun! (And the sensitive arms thing from before? Amazing that's basically me but more so) however unfortunately people gave up on tickling me pretty early on because my first instinct is kicking. And I can't help it. But whenever a friend tries now my legs are longer and usually have shoes amd I have to explain that I didn't mean to!

So reading these is so interesting and fun!

Aw I’m so glad that you enjoy my content & are able to connect with it! Sadly you & I are in the same boat, because it’s legit been years since anyone actually tickled me & when people do, it’s literally just like a 1 second thing. Most people are conditioned to believe that everyone hates being tickled, & our own physical reactions just make them buy into that belief even more, even if it isn’t exactly true. You can’t really control your reactions when tickled, even if you like it, so don’t feel bad about it. If your friends try again, you can maybe try to slip in the fact that you don’t mind it. (I feel like that might be easier than saying you like it, baby steps & all)

I’m glad my fics & headcanons can resonate with you & others, we’re all living vicariously through our blorbos, myself included 😂

& I agree wholeheartedly about Paul! His workdays can get to be so long & boring, so he appreciates a little lighthearted roughhousing to break up the monotony. I feel like Bill might’ve found out on accident when he squeezed past him in the break room, but he promised to keep it a secret. Ted on the other hand was trying to sneak up & scare Paul, but he squeezed his sides a little when he grabbed him & a giggle slipped out. Ted immediately tested out the new information & now he loves to go bother Paul when he’s bored & hear him giggle & snort. Paul tries to act like he’s annoyed by it, but his work is really boring, & he loves any excuse not to do work

Emma loves everything about Paul & she’s just so smitten for her dorky average man. Maybe he was feeling sore so she offered him a massage & that’s how she found out he was ticklish. I think she found out pretty early on in the relationship (like any good girlfriend) No one can resist Paul’s adorable bubbly laughter!

I have plenty of fics to choose from on my blog, but I gathered my tgwdlm fics, & some others I’ve found!

Let Me Hear It was my first fic for this fandom & I just needed a happy ending where they’re all alive & having fun together

Down A Peg was really fun to write & has Ted getting a taste of his own medicine

hey I recently followed you after I watched npmd as my foray into its fandom and One NPMD Blog To Follow (your fic 10/10 btw, greatly enjoyed it) and was delighted by the aro/ace posts you also reblog ^_^ doesn’t need to be npmd, but do you have any favorite aro or ace headcanons?

omg thank you anon! one thing about me is i will be sooooo aro on main

i was big into jatp for the last few years, so one of my fave aro hcs is reggie peters! that boy is aro bi and you Cannot tell me otherwise. headcanon acquired from this iconic post by amanda @secretly-of-course and like i mean it's just correct. i even made a gifset and a fic about it (the fic does also end up aro-fying the rest of the polycule lmao). other aro jatp hcs include aro carrie, aro luke, and obviously the band as a qpr bc that's basically canon. i do also believe in aro bobby because i loveeee to project onto that boy lmao. you may be noticing some patterns in my headcanons and it is that i am extremely biased towards zapping characters with my arofication beam. well guess what i also transgenderize them

(if i had a nickel for every time i made an ao3 series about a polycule consisting of musically-inclined main characters, then wrote subsquent fics transing their genders and aromanticizing their orientations/queerplatonic-ing their relationships, i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice. if you're into be more chill you can check out my meremine series i wrote in high school lol)

other than jatp i haven't really been super active in fandom recently? i did find a very good aro bi steve harrington series on ao3, which i definitely recommend checking out if ur into that sort of thing

honestly my hcs change depending on the day and mood. i haven't spent too much time thinking about npmd hcs but i mean. any character i like ends up getting arospec'd it's only a matter of time

I will be doing a research deep dive later on, but you're the number 1 person I see with Jewish headcanons for these characters and you've got great takes that make me think about things.
