but anyways to answer your question- it was the result of constantly being in his transformed state. especially post momo's death he was just constantly depressed and couldn't get himself out of the transformation

i feel like he also detransformed slowly instead of instantly like in canon in this instance. so slowly over a few weeks? months? like that was him trying to get better and actually healing from it (after not doing so for a good few years)

and the consequence is old man white hair :]

abt his reaction- well at that point he doesn't give a shit anymore lmao. he's like "oh this part is still white. hm. might as well happen at this point"

(also fun fact i was originally gonna draw as an actual old man but that felt overkill so i settled for some 30yo instead)

i remember you posting a rough timeline for handplates a while back, do you have something similar for defrag? or is it more of a spontaneous thing?

Defrag is definitely more spontaeneous which causes problems whenever I get stuck as you can see, haha. I have sort of a vague idea for a final confrontation, but I still don't actually know how I want it to end. I have two general possibilities that are both massively different and have their own pros and cons but I can't decide. There's a bunch of loose ends I've got to figure out how to tie up too and how that'll connect with everything and so on and so on...

With Handplates I knew pretty much early on the entire trajectory and climax of the story, so it was easy to build on that skeleton (haw haw) all the way through, but Defrag is so much looser and less focused so it's easier to get stuck. I meant it to be less of a serious or stressful project, which it is to an extent but it leaves it a bit more aimless. I'm wondering if the next chapters of Deltarune might get me more back into a Spamton mood so I can get over this writer's block for it.

On the topic of Spamton and his backstory though, I recently read this very long doujin on Pixiv that goes from his beginning to him meeting Kris and it has a lot of really interesting ideas, like Mettaton being the voice on the phone (going by Mike, as a reference to how he wanted to be a singer with his cousins) that Spamton got into contact with accidentally through spam calls, and him and Spamton becoming genuine friends, with MTT's belief in Spamton making his (their) products sell. Then a glitchy guy (the Knight, presumably) severs the connection between the Light World and Dark World, thus cutting Spamton off from MTT/Mike and causing his downfall, then that glitchy guy later goes and forces Spamton into becoming the second secret boss, so in this the phone person is totally innocent! I've never seen Spamton have such a positive relationship with the person on the phone before! And it definitely fits with his close ties to Mettaton in general in many ways. It's interesting!

I like that Benson's not even that annoyed by Chris. It's literally not about him. When he's singing, Benson's not even looking in his direction. When Chris threatens him, Benson says "Sure", even attempts a small smile when Chris says "Good to hear", because he's like that, he knows how to work people. And maybe he has a sliver of hope that Randy will refuse. Surely, he'll spit it out. Surely, he won't take a second bite. Surely, he'll spit THAT out. And it's at the third that he leaves. It's not about Chris asking him to do that because that's what Chris does and Benson could not give two shits about him. It's the fact that Randy lets him do it that pisses him off. And it's Randy specifically. I'm convinced Chris could have done the same to anyone else and Benson would have asked him to stop just the same, but then it would have been the person's decision if they let him walk all over them, not Benson's business. But it's not another person, it's Randy. Chris chose to pick on the one person Benson is OBSESSED with. Killing Chris is just him saying "see? this idiot doesn't matter, you don't have to do what he says"

anyways since i'm on a headcanon rambling kick. I don't really consider much of ts3 to be canon in my own lore (but that is another ramble) BUT i do put stock in both simis bachelor and alex goth having the neurotic trait. which is sorta a lame pop culture ocd-anxiety-vaguely-paranoid situation in game but in the theater of my mind it is genuinely a genetic mental illness deal and all that. and to me Bella also has it to a much more tightly-controlled degree especially since she's a very public-facing figure + is A Woman so of course god forbid women do anything etc but it probably somehow works into her going missing eventually (i dont actually have a real bella goth disappearance theory tbh). i sorta wander between what exactly it would be if it was a diagnosis and what exactly the symptoms are (generally its more in an anxious + morally scrupulous way but i do sometimes want to think it could go in more of a true paranoia/delusional direction idk whatever strikes) but idk. the bachelors have got that bloodline curse for sure.

as for if michael has it i'm also not consistent about. i've never narratively focused on him beyond being married to dina + being a Mess who partied to an early grave. which could have been to cope with that but idk

anyways there's a sort of micro-tragedy to me in that even if bella never went missing and he led a perfectly "normal" life alexander was still going to age into a mental health struggle, albiet one that would have probably been caught + dealt with sooner. but bella went messing and set off the dominoes to make Everything Worse yippeeee
