Sometimes I think about the train wreck of a marriage my parents had and I just...can’t.
My mom worked her ass off for 20+ years to help pay off the mortgage on the home I grew up in. She was the breadwinner; my dad ran his own small business, with varying degrees of success. Sometimes he brought home a paycheck, sometimes he didn’t. So our family survived on my mom’s salary, and much of her salary went to paying off the mortgage.
The day they paid off the mortgage, a huge burden fell off my mom’s shoulders. She thought her retirement was secure. If nothing else, she would have a place to live that no one could take from her.
But alas, my father didn’t tell her that he had racked up over $400,000 in debt. (Yes, that’s the correct number of zeroes.) About $300K of that was from deals gone bad, legal fees, and fines from committing business fraud. But about $100,000 of that was from buying his mistress(es?) lavish gifts, taking trips to visit them, and sending them cash. (Yes, this is while telling my mom some months that he didn’t have enough business to bring home any money.)
This all came out when my dad lost his business and couldn’t pay his debt anymore. My mom somehow gained access to his email account and his bank statements. Being an accountant, she dug through them and put together the picture of what had been happening for years, if not decades, behind her back. She saw how he would funnel money through his business to his mistress(es), sometimes up to $20,000 a year.
Furious doesn’t even begin to describe how she felt. There was a massive debt that he had intentionally hid from her while she was slaving away trying to keep our family afloat on her paycheck. While she was cooking and cleaning and taking the kids to dentist appointments, he was off buying Louis Vuitton handbags for his mistresses.
The only asset they had that would cover the debt was the house.
My dad should bow down and grovel at her feet every single day for the rest of his life, because in the end, she decided to sell the house to pay off his debt. I repeat: my mom chose to sell her home, which was paid for with mostly her money and which she was counting on in her old age, to bail out my dad’s fraudulent business practices and his spending on mistresses.
The only thing she demanded in exchange was a divorce, to which my dad had the gall to say, “Hey now, let’s not be hasty.” The fucking nerve.
If it were me, I would’ve divorced him, taken half of the proceeds from the house, and left him to figure out how to pay off the remaining debt. If he ended up homeless, it wasn’t my problem. Maybe he should’ve thought ahead before sending all that cash to his mistresses.
But my mother is kinder than I am. She didn’t toss him out on his ass. She gave him most of the proceeds from selling the house to fully pay off his debt. She used the remaining proceeds, plus $100K of her own savings, to buy a small pre-fabricated house for herself. She lets him live in the house with her.
Sometimes my dad complains to me that my mom verbally abuses him. She yells at him, berates him, and makes bitter and snide remarks. It hurts his feelings. I try to have sympathy for him, but on the other hand, nothing she says is untrue. He wronged her badly, and if she’s still pissed at him over it, well, it’s not unjustified.

Appreciating Simon and Betty's ending because sometimes loving someone with your whole heart doesn't prevent you from being blind to their inner struggles. Sometimes you mess up a relationship even while trying your hardest because you failed to stop for a moment and truly consider their needs from their perspective. And it doesn't make you a horrible person and it doesn't mean you were using them and sometimes it's even still an overall good experience for both of you. And still, you two are not gonna work out, and you've changed and it's time to move on.

Kinda odd to say that they just messed up the lore when it came to nuking New Vegas. Like. What. I don’t think it’s jumping to conclusions to say that fnv isn’t cannon because of new Vegas getting nuked and the NCR getting destroyed, while the show is considered 100% “cannon.”
As an aside, please dear god I do not want a fucking fallout multiverse where this is all separate timelines. Video game series timelines and lore are always fucked no matter what you do.
I am going to not complain about other people’s takes too often and prefer to just complain about what happens in game, but sometimes you see something so egregious that you just have to say something.
