As a commissioner, I love seeing how artists interpret and stylize my characters, but as an artist, I often agonize over if I should try to match the style of the provided reference or lean into my own style.

i have so much work to do for finals season which is frustrating bc on the one hand i'm very glad all my classes have project-based finals where i get to be creative instead of just doing an exam or a paper. however. i have a bad habit with every project-based final ever of accidentally getting an idea that's way too ambitious and creating more work for myself than i need to do
however this semester even tho i fell into that exact same trap my two most elaborate final projects each involve 1. editing a video essay which contains an interview i did with paul bellini and at least 45 seconds of it are bellini talking about why he thinks i have great potential as a comedian, and 2. editing a ten minute reel of the documentary footage i got on tour with scott. which of course involves rewatching various videos of me and scott being extremely chaotic together. so i stay winning ig
#my other finals include ''powerpoint presentation detailing the historical significance of mel brooks the producers''#and ''live sketch show that i actually don't have a significant role in but that's fine i have a different sketch class next semester''#(this sketch class was technically ''creating characters and solo performances'' and i really wish i could've done more)#(but also that whole interview-footage-debacle drained so much of my creative energy so sometimes doing the bare minimum is self care)#so i don't have a solo piece in the show. but i do get to say my favorite line in the whole show in a group sketch which is great#and i did sign up to perform an aubrey monologue in a sketch show in a suburb of boston next week#which is gonna be super interesting bc i've been looking to do more performing outside of my college#bc i've found that i don't think college kids are actually my target audience??? or at the very least i want to perform to a wider audience#it's frustrating bc for that show i have to trim the monologue down to 3 minutes but it's the tightest monologue i have and it's 5 minutes#so trimming it down feels like a game of jenga since it's so tight lmao#but honestly even if the performance bombs i'm mostly doing this so i can tell bellini about it lmao#he's so supportive of my comedy and he's been such a great help with my aubrey monologues i feel like this is bellini homework lmao#anyway i probably won't post the video essay publicly bc it's not the style of video essays i want to make#and it's too specific to the class it's for#but if people are interested in watching it i'll send you the vid when it's done#and for the tour video i'll probably post that or at least some version of it#bc that's just gonna be a fun teaser of ''here's the level of behind-the-scenes content you'll be getting from this doc!!''#and also a fun way to be like. audiences don't know me nearly as well as they know scott#but they will definitely know me by the end of this bc there are so many wild interactions i have on camera of me and scott being chaotic#anyway this post was mostly to organize my thoughts of what i still have to do this week#i am so ready to be done with school lmao i'm gonna be spending a full month in toronto this summer#and it's shaping up to be such an exciting time i can't wait

Got any demon school head cannons?
Tumblr media
Although I have no idea what characters you want specifically (and I sadly am not gonna do the entire cast) I'm just gonna do the losers in my brain ! Edit: I'M SO SORRY I FORGOT ABOUT THIS LEMME GET BACK TO WORK!!!
----
Agares-
I ❤️ my freckled sleepy baby!
Although he's a demon and like has claws, He doesn't like having sharp claws and usually bites them or files them down. Because he when he sleeps, he grips his hair or grabs his skin so he'll accidentally cut himself if he keeps them sharp and long.
He loves soft things, they help him sleep which is why he always has his cloud (Master I think?)
He usually goes Non-verbal sometimes. He's overstimulated 24/7
Bite he likes biting things (sometimes chews on Gaap or Master(?))
He likes Kikuo (or whatever the demon version is)
Agares also really likes Miracle Musical, Tally Hall, and Jack Stauber
REALLY GOOD LIAR! Like super good at it
He's tried to not cuss much, especially when he screamed shit at Gaaps house and Gaaps dad was all like 'ExCuSe Me?!?!???"
He's trans :3 uses He/him
He was aroace but now is questioning he may be gay and aroace flux
---
Lied-
I also love my Lied💛💛💛
Surprisingly knows how to waltz and play the violin (also the guitar)
Also likes to bite people. He usually bites Asmodeus' or Sabros hands when he's having a breakdown
Really good at cutting his hair with safety scissors? He cut his hair (not just his bangs) once and Shakky was proud but told him he'd be grounded if he did it again
He got so used to being alone he's still getting used to being so busy
He gets cramps in his leg so really easily so that's why he uses his tail
He also listens to Kikuo but not as much as Agares, he mainly listens to Ricky Montgomery or Conan Gray. Agares' weird music taste concerns him-
HATES when people stand behind him- it just makes him really creeped out-
His fingers have a lot of scars on them because he styles his hair and sometimes (all the time) burns himself
Him and Elizabetta will randomly swap clothes. Like she'll just take off her shirt and throw it at Lied- he'll do the same
Another trans masc :3, he uses He/They
Another dude who went through the five stages of grief trying to figure out his sexuality. He's bisexual with a preference for women (but surprising no one he has a boyfriend Asmodeus-)
---
Asmodeus x Lied Headcanons-
Look. If you think I'm not going to talk about these two YOU'RE wrong!
They're literally hot hands x cold hands and I love them for that
Asmodeus would beat anybody up who messed with Lied. Lied can't keep his emotions in if he gets messed with he'll cry - and Asmodeus will know immediately.
When Lied went into the haunted house Asmodeus had to run out of the booth just to calm him. Infact Asmodeus refused to do his thing and scare Lied cause he hates seeing him cry
Asmodeus crochets Lied hats
Lied once lost a keychain Asmodeus gave him and felt super bad (offered to pay Asmodrus back)
Lieds poor ass literally gifted Asmodeus a puppy on his birthday. If that ain't love then I don't know what is
Shakky pretends to not know about their relationship but she's been placing bets with Amaryllis on when they'll get married.
When Amaryllis found out about Asmodeus' binder she was kind of upset and made sure he didn't wear it anymore. Lied smuggles extra binders in his bag to give to Asmodeus
---
Nafra Ampsey-
I love them... she's the girl ever and I adore her for that
She went to bath and body works with Ameri and Ronove. And Ronove dumped so many perfumes on her
Nafra is extremely sensitive to smell
She doesn't really like wearing dresses but she does sometimes
She likes baking, she bakes cupcakes for Ronove usually their strawberry flavored
If she could speak any human language it'd be French and Russian
She has a heavy accent but tries to hide it. It comes out when she gets mad or really emotional
When she cries she just says a ton of stuff in Russian. Ronove learned Russian so he'd understand what was happening
Her and Ronove are somewhat dating? She's not ready for a relationship but he's willing to wait
Bigender (She/He), Grey sexual, and bi

- You’re carrying him bridal style while running away 💀
- pls he turns into Kid’s hair color 😭
- Man FREAKS OUT whenever you come to rescue him (which isn’t that often but it still happens)
- he always says: “I don’t need saving y/n. I’m fine.”
- *About to be roasted alive over an open flame*
- law finds it difficult to accept help from you bec he feels bad that he’s not the one doing it to you :(
- ok please just get yourself captured and let him save you so he’ll feel better about himself 😭
- He finds that he feels a bit weak when you always gotta rescue his ass
- Reassure him that he’s perfect the way he is and that you find it kinda cute
- he might melt and die tho 😭
- He still doesn’t know even why you manage to carry him bridal style every single damn time when you rescue him 💀
- honestly I’d pay to see someone carry law bridal style 🙄
- You’re amazing, and he fucking knows it
- You got a higher bounty than him? He’s not jealous at all! (Unlike mr rubber man)
- he’s actually very proud of you :D
- Emo boy loves how strong you are 🥺

hii!!! i’ve been following you for a long time now and i really love your art!! i’ve also been trying to learn how to draw so i was wandering if you’d have some advice for someone who’s completely new to this ??? pleek-
forgot to say this in the original ask, but of you have any tips on how to draw hair i’d thank you forever 😭 i’m really struggling with that
aw thanks! idk if im the best to ask for advice but hopefully you find any of this useful!
honestly it's really as simple as just drawing even if you think it looks bad don't get discouraged because it's all part of the process and you will get better when you are drawing on a regular basis. just look at the first drawings i had on here compared to my more recent stuff - the more you do it the better you'll get!
look for inspiration and references, its not cheating to use references as long as you are not straight up copying your reference 1 to 1. i like going on pinterest for inspiration especially for clothes! i also like to see what other artists are doing, instagram is also good for finding art inspo, i also found watching speed paints on youtube a good way of seeing how other people color and how to apply it to your own drawings
I'll talk more about what i do under the cut lol
for my process, i like to start off with a super messy sketch im talking chicken scratch. it's not supposed to look good its just supposed to give you a base for your drawing and allow you to figure out what you want to do.
then i start a new layer on top, lower the opacity of the initial sketch and i start drawing on top and refining everything so I have a cleaner sketch that's closer to the final drawing. this is usually where i finish figuring out the poses anatomy, hair, expressions, hands etc. it's still kind of messy but it'll feel more like you are filling in the blanks rather than starting from scratch
finally i do my lineart in another layer and for your lineart where you just make sure to keep your lines smooth and clean
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then i just do my base colors and shade, for this one i didn't really go all out with the shading so it may not be the best example lol, i just kept it simple which is ok! sometimes less is more it just depends how you want the final piece to look.
for hair specifically - i don't really have a tutorial, when i draw hair i just sketch out the shape i want the hair to have in the initial sketch, and then i had more detail when i clean up my sketch. I usually start by adding the strands that frame the face first or the hairline and then go out from there to the rest of the hair. I also don't draw every single strand, i tend to keep it more simple since i have a simple style
I found this tutorial on pinterest which pretty much how i go about it execpt i usually have a rough idea of the overall shape first and i don't go as detailed as the final result, i usually stop around the third step
i hope ANY of this was helpful and not too rambley! feel free to ask more if you have any more questions!

Hi~! I have a question. My friends and I are making a visual novel of our own, and I wanted to ask if you had any tips (I love your games, I hope we can reach that level of quality). Thanks!
That's cool ^^. I hope you have fun making it, and it's nice of you to say our games are good quality! But I'm afraid I'm not sure how helpful the tips I could give will be. Increasing the quality of a project isn't exactly something that can be done through general suggestions and I don't know what engine you're using or what you're going for, etc. I'm sorry.
I will say that, in my opinion, there are three stages devs go through in conceptualizing their project and sometimes devs get stuck at the second part and the game is finished under those circumstances. Getting all the way to third usually increases the quality a lot.
The first stage is the idea that you just want to make a game. Who knows what it is, but you want to do that. The second part is having an idea of what you want it to be like and what you don't want it to be like. It's a good place to be, but there's still a level of disconnection. The best stage is the third, which is to really, really understand what your own game is as a whole, individual concept. It's not comparisons to other things or fixing problems you had with something else or a jumble of ideas that you're just going for or a game that's created in a certain way because that's how games seem to work. You've gotten a true grasp on your own intentions and each decision is made with the goal of creating the specific vision.
i.e; Your game doesn't have bad endings because every VN has bad endings, it has bad endings because they are needed for what you're doing. Or the game doesn't have bad endings because they wouldn't do anything. There's just endings and the players can determine how good or bad they are for themselves, or there's only a variety of different good endings, or there's only one single ending, or whatever.
And if you're making it with the aim of getting it out to an audience who will enjoy it, I can give one other piece of overall advice.
Even if it's true that you do want people to like your game, I find it more relaxing and often more effective to never make your game with the intention it being something people like. It's not about liking, it's about convincing. First yourself, and then others. You've seen something in this idea and you're gonna do everything you can so that when people play, they've seen what you saw. This is also why being at stage 3 in conception is so useful. You don't have to jump through hoops for or to read the minds of people you don't even know. You've come to know a thing as valuable or worth some time already, your goal is to pull it off in a way that other people will hear the case you've made for your own concept and hopefully they'll agree. Or at the very least, they'll see what you were trying to do and understand it even if it's not their preference. You can't win them all or perfectly get an idea across every time for everyone, but you can try for it if you know what you're going for.
When I made Our Life: Beginnings & Always it didn't matter if the player coming into thought the childhood friend trope was boring or super cute, I knew what the concept was to me. I'd pictured an experience that was genuinely sentimental, nostalgic, and had a relationship based on shared moments over a lifetime together that actually happened. The genre, gameplay style, presentation, and everything was meant to show that. In the end I think players got to experience what I imagined for myself and I think that's a wonderful thing.
Good luck creating your own project!

this isn’t tyt related BUT
I am asking the great writer on advice of how to write a paragraph on explaining a characters appearance because i am STRUGGLING. it should be easy but the words are not wording 😭 any tips for this and just writing in general? (you’ve probably said this somewhere else but so sorry i didn’t see it)
ahhsdf first of all i am flattered that you think of me as a great writer 😭 but!! i do have a few tips!!
so first of all, the amount of detail that you put into a character's appearance really depends on perspective!! for example, i've definitely sometimes written entire paragraphs of, like, nico describing will - a subtle nod toward the fact that he's completely and utterly whipped for him. but then for another character, such as, like, reyna, i may do something simple like "a tall girl with her hair in a braid" (i can't remember the actual description i gave reyna lmao)
so, for a short description:
the simpler, the better. i think the most identifiable traits of a person is their hair (if we're talking about a regular human being, not an alien or animal or something, in which it would probably be whatever traits are not human - such as, say, a cat tail would be the most identifiable trait of catra from shera)
i usually just revert to the easiest method, which is just: hair color and style. if it's in a braid, or a ponytail; if it's short, or long; blonde, brown, pink, or anything else - then your reader already has a vague image of this.
also, it depends what kind of story/fic you're writing! if it's a solangelo fic, chances are, writing "blond guy" is literally all you need to write to make sure your audience knows you're talking about will. but if you're writing a fic in which there are several blond guys, then you'll probably want to go into slightly more detail (like, curly blond hair for will, and short blond hair for jason - even though for jason, i would say glasses would be the defining trait)
eyes are also good! or what they're wearing! just make sure that whatever description you're adding is something that either helps identify the character, or identify the character's personality. a baggy hoodie for nico. a flannel jacket for will. leather jackets, plain tee-shirts, ripped jeans, a mini skirt, flowy dresses, are all pieces of clothing that can make a statement about the character, specifically in au's- because we already know this character, but in this universe, what are they like?
adding on to that, a casual way to point out their clothing is to mention it in relation to the weather. i've done this so many times. like, will wearing a plain tee shirt and cargo shorts in freezing weather! or something like that. if it fits into your story
just remember that, most of the time, people's internal monologues aren't going super in depth about a person's appearance - if i meet someone new, i'd probably note smth like "oh, this guy has glasses and short dark hair. he's wearing a blue jacket" in my head, and nothing further than that
HOWEVER. this is where you get to share more about the person whose pov you're writing. say you're describing the love interest - it would be very likely for (and i'm just using nico and will as an example bc i write them the most) nico to go super in depth about will's freckles, and how blue his eyes are, and how there's a strand of blond curly hair caught in his eyelash, and how his jacket is loose over his shoulders but seems to fit just right, and the star wars tee-shirt that he's wearing is so ridiculous and yet he looks just incredible.
allow yourself to fully think in the perspective of the person you're writing. is the person detail-oriented? if so, they'd probably take more notice of people's appearance than someone who doesn't give a shit. is the person interested in fashion in the first place? then they may add notes about how this piece of clothing really brings out their eyes, or comment on how horrible the shoes match with the jacket.
but *most* of the time, it's something simple. i've gone into so much detail and a slight ramble here lmfaoSKDJF BUT- the MAIN thing i wanted to say was, if you're really in doubt, don't waste too much time on a character's appearance! find one/two identifiable traits, work it into their entry (he ran into a blond guy with a green flannel; she narrowed her eyes, trying to recognize the girl with bubblegum pink hair and a leather jacket; he could only see the back of his head, taking note of the shoulder-length dark hair and denim jacket)
in the end, physical appearance is one of the least important parts of a story - specifically in fics, when everyone already has an idea of how characters look and will likely already have hc's as to what kind of clothes they wear/what length their hair is. add what you like, but if you're worried about making it sound good, just remember that even if you don't add a physical description at all, once you say the character's name, probably everyone will already have a semi-accurate picture of the character in their head!
thank you for the ask :)

Heyo again! I wanted to say that your comics are lovely to read, Keep it up!
You don’t need to respond to this but I also want some advice from ya, its been pretty bumpy road for me on my art Journey, The good and the bad stuffs, I started drawing again in last year for almost 3 years and I have been improving my art style, I have a small but lovely followers on two social medias, I enjoy making that I love and even making my own artwork but sometimes I feel like I am not artist enough or interested enough, so I maybe ask you for some art advices? Any advice is fine but I want to do a story to draw and tell but I’m not good at writing or experience at least, I also want to start commissions if possible if anyone interested in my artworks but I don’t have a payments yet for now,
I probably search up these things but I want wanted someone who experience just before possibly
You might not understand this submitted question cuz I don’t know how to Express my thoughts and feelings if that makes sense, and you don’t have to answer it if you don’t want to if this isn’t your thing, that’s all from me hope you have a good week
Hi bean! Sorry I'm replying so late! Don't worry, I think you were pretty clear in formulating your question!
I just am not sure if I'm the best person to answer or give advice on that because... I'm not that good an artist at all. I have trouble sticking to discipline, I only ever draw what I like without challenging myself too much unless I REALLY want to, and... Yeah. No wonder I'm at the tiny level I'm at in my 30s, to be honest. The only reason why my art ever gets positive reactions is because I happened to draw something that people liked enough, and even that is super dependent on timing and other factors. It's very tough to get noticed, so I've found, or if it IS easy, then I must be a bit dumb, because I haven't figured it out.
One thing that I feel HAS positively helped me a lot though, has been entering art challenges and contests, and there are plenty of those out there, which is good! If it's anything that can help me practice more towards my goals, then it's a good experience. Be it a writing challenge, a drawing challenge on a specific theme, a comic-drawing challenge or whatnot... Personally I find they always give me an opportunity to develop ideas in a way I like, and to end up with a final product which I don't necessarily always like, but which at least showcases my progress.
I really don't do commissions often because I don't need the money that much, so the extent of my experience goes to IRL stuff and iterances where someone has specifically seeked out a commission from me, so I'm also not the best at giving advice regarding commissions either TwT But if that's something you want, I'd really recommend to go for it! I set up a paypal account to receive payments when I was about your age for translation gigs, it's tough at the start but then it pretty much rolls off pretty easily, and I've only sworn by that, but I'm sure there's many other trustworthy options out there as well! (I really don't have that much experience in that sense, haha TwT)
But yeah... Also overall, I guess, no matter how hard impostor syndrome tends to hit when you're an artist, especially when you're still developing what you want to do and all, it's definitely important to actually go out there and show yourself out. Dare to say "Yeah, I make art, so I'm an artist, let me in on the artist scene." If you want to make art and show your art, overall, nobody has a right to tell you not to, or to tell you you're not an artist, no matter how much societal pressure there is against that. One's gotta have the courage to say they're an artist, or at the very least an aspiring artist, if they wanna be one, it's actually a key part of the process. (Arguably I haven't been good at it lately. I haven't put myself out there much for art gigs or challenges and whatnot. I should really go for it more.)
But yeah TwT Sorry, I feel like I've been writing a whole lot not to say that much, but I hope it's been a little helpful at least! Also from what I can see, and especially from the first years I've known you, your art already has improved a ton, so from my point of view, you're doing good! Don't give up, do your best not to be scared and to fight off that voice in you that tells you you're "not enough of an artist". And hopefully you can keep having fun drawing what you want to draw, that's super important, at the very least to me, I've kept swearing by that, whether what I like drawing is popular or not.
(PS: Listening to music and imagining situations to it and reading new comics that speak out to me are two surefire ways to get my inspiration going too, in case that helps!)

I'm curious to see how you feel about Yuya given, uh, everything. But I know that might be a bit frightening so feel free to do either Sora or Serena instead!
Well, first question and I already have a slammer on my hands. Can't say I didn't ask for this one, so it's best I get these thoughts out on Yuya. Later on I might do the other two. Get ready. Also spoiler warning.
General opinion/How much I care about them: Yuya's a character I found frustrating as the show went on, but it's not his fault. Amongst all the characters with missed potential, Yuya's one of the very few ones who felt complete, with the initial shut-ins, insecurities, and bullying building him up to life his own life and make his mark on the world how he knows best: making people smile with his Entertainment Dueling. And in the Miami Championship, he really started to come on its own and actually impressed me. Another thing that impressed me was the Z-ARC foreshadowing: regardless of execution, you cannot say they didn't have that idea at the start, or at least the core of it. Sure, the road was bumpy (learning the same lesson over and over? Common and overused complaint, but I can't disagree with it) but it did lead to a complete character at least, which I do find endearing at the core. It's the world around him later on that becomes the frustrating part. Especially the post Z-ARC part, it felt like the world itself bent to Yuya's goals, like the whole world will be destroyed if Yuya doesn't get his girl, like... Ugh. AGAIN, he's not entirely at fault for that. I do care for him and wish him very well (despite the frustrations) and proper, thorough therapy. Also for his mindmates. Also... I don't have a strong opinion on Berserk Yuya. It's... A berserk form that always wins. I already know what's the outcome.
A ship I love: Eh... Not much of a shipper myself, but... Fruitshipping is fine, valid and canon, but frustrating because of reasons above which I also explained in my "Yuzu's Exhaustive, Exhausting Elegy". Again, not Yuya's fault here but Yuzu kind of destroying her own self for him just in a writing sense doesn't sit well for me. Even still, they have a fun dynamic and the support they show each other (even while separated by plot) is very much welcome.
A non-romantic relationship that I love: Aight, no complaints with this one YUYA | GONGENZAKA (sorry, don't remember the shipping name). What a fun dynamic the two have together, it's more than clear that they're besties and Gongenzaka's had a huge hand in supporting Yuya as well. There isn't much depth, but it's wholesome and solid the whole way through. I also really like the concept of two best friends having totally opposite Dueling styles, and in some way or another, approaching and learning more about each other's style (though Yuya learning the Heavystrong style was entirely out of my mind, and perhaps someone else's in a fanfic. The opposite happened though.)
The NOTP: Once again, no strong opinions on that one. If I find it weird enough, I'm simply not going to bother with it. I don't really have one that sticks out to me.
An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: If I ever get the willpower and knowledge to properly write such a concept, a Spirit World fic when Yuya and Gongenzaka end up being Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi and Brave Masurawo respectively would be great. Already shared an idea, IIRC, of these two things being statues that the Superheavies built in honor of their Master and his best friend.
Something that makes me think of them:
You weirdos.
More specifically, the people in the ARC-V fandom. Whenever I see all these super excited posts about the world and characters that the show offered, I can't help but feel your love for Yuya. Like... It seems everyone loves Yuya in this fandom and I can't help but feel like a bit of an outcast sometimes, considering how conflicted I am on him. I don't want to deny you of any fun. I know you're having the time of your lives with a show that gave me headaches, and while I still get shivers from time to time regarding my own experience... Thanks to you, I learned to bear it and make something positive out of it all. Perhaps not letting anyone hinder you, and encouraging yourself to make your own mark and make people happy, is what makes me think of Yuya, so you guys are a part of that.
I know I've mostly shifted to Radiant Dawn these days (Micaiah has claimed my mind with all her woes, and Tibarn with his Stone Cold entrances, and I just want to understand it all), but thanks for making me having a wonderful time here.

omg you’re in creative writing?? thats what i want to major in after i do my basics here in my home town!!
what’s it like?? idk anyone who’s been in a creative writing class (i’m the only one in my family that likes to write for fun lmao) so i have no one to go to for questions!
is it super hard and like,,,very demanding?? if that makes sense?? do you get to write some of your own stuff or do you have to follow a certain prompt/story line..?
feel free to ignore if you don’t want to answer! no hard feelings :))
I love it, but it was definitely nervewracking for me at first!
My school doesn't offer creative writing as a major but we do have a certificate program, which is four classes that start with like "intro to creative writing" and get a bit more specific as you go along. They've all been structured sort of the same way, which is that for the first few weeks of the semester we read published stories and discuss them in class to analyze them for craft, and then we start workshopping. For most of my classes there's been two rounds of workshops, so you submit a story, your workshop class comes around, you get about a half hour or so of everyone in class discussing what did/didn't work for them in your story, and ofc you do the same for everyone else. Then I've usually had a few weeks before my other story was due. I'm not sure if this is the same as what crw classes are like elsewhere.
For me, workshops have been a fairly stressful experience, but for the most part that's had more to do with me being anxious about sharing my writing than anything actually justifiable haha. There's a shared vulnerability that comes with reading everyone's work and knowing they're reading yours, and most everyone in my workshops has been super kind about their feedback and critiques always go beyond "I don't like this" into something a lot more workable and constructive. I have had one bad prof who had a very narrow view of writing (he thought Hemmingway was the only good writer and that's what we should all strive for) and he sort of ruined that class for me, so I will say that if you're signing up for creative writing classes, looking into the professors is a must! Finding someone who's style might line up with yours or even who other students just say is open-minded will make your experience so much better.
This also def depends on the professor, but I haven't found them very demanding! Usually I have a few weeks to write a story about whatever I want (unless I want to just submit one I've already written), and for me they've never been longer than 5k words. Ofc in between that you're reading other stories written by your peers and published authors, and I suppose it depends on the workload you're accustomed to but I've always found crw classes to be my lightest ones (also because the reading is usually so fun!)
My workshops have definitely helped me grow a bit more backbone when it comes to absorbing criticism and also just accepting the vulnerability that comes with sharing your work, but overall my favorite part has been making friends with other writers. There were a few people who I had multiple classes with throughout a few semesters, and we'd sometimes meet to work on our projects, and just getting to chat about writing with people who think similarly is so fun! Like you said, it can be hard to find people who really get it sometimes, so of all the ways that my crw classes have been great for me, those discussions have been my favorite part :)

Got any tips on how to come up with character designs? Trying to make a bunch of ocs right now but I can’t seem to think of what I want with their outfits, accessories, hairs or colors. Sorry if this is a little too much btw.
Hiiii!!! Okay so I don’t think I’m that good at giving out tips because I always used things that worked for me which might not work for everybody else, but I can try my best lol.
Whenever I’m coming up with a character to design I alway try to keep in mind how the character’s personality would reflect in their clothing/design. Appearence can communicate a lot about a character!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something I think really helped me a lot to come up with my characters is just… looking around! Humans are super varied and interesting, even the most boring person on Earth has something that can be considered a personal style. And sometimes… you need to make a boring character! Like Isaac down here, I made him specifically to look as boring as possible
Tumblr media
I also put a lot of myself in every design I come up with. I feel like it’s easier to see a character if they’re wearing something I would actually wear myself (like that green bag, it’s literally one of my old bags that I used to put art supplies in lol).
You can also play with contrasts in designs too! Like using a soft palette for an evil and murderous character, or strong dark colors for a good one. Here’s Semjaza, an OC of mine, he’s supposed to be a brutal, vain and manipulative asshole, who hides behind a seemingly harmless persona. His design changes when the story progresses and it also showcases changes in his personality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really really hope this wasn’t too al over the place lol. I’m out super good at tutorials. The best advice I can give you is to look around a lot! Sit on a bench on the park and take notice of all the people you see. What can you tell from their clothes, their hair etc. etc.? Have you ever seen someone with a style you really liked? Try and ask yourself what their personality would be, or if they’d have a completely different and contrasting personality that you’d never expect.
When it comes to designing already existing characters (like I did with the tboi cast) things are a bit easier, since the majority of the job is already done. OCs can be much more difficult, since you need to come up with both a personality AND design from scratch. I’d say the best thing to do is experiment until you find something you like. I do that all the time! And a lot of designs I come up with, I end up not liking all that much after a while (like Lilith up there, who I draw differently now lol) characters grow and change the more we draw them, you could even end up hating a design you were really attached to (that happened to me more than once lol). AND sometimes less is more! Even the lack of details can tell a lot about a character. Semjaza is dripping with details because he’s materialistic, vain, and wants to appear at his best at all times, while Isaac is much more casual and simple. Simple can be memorable!

Polyam!Mc With Thick Curly Hair
Honestly just wanted to write for a character who has thick curls because I know the hair care is so intricate. My family is half pin straight hair and half curls, so growing up it was always a mixed bag of who was going to get what.
Also, some of this might conflict with canon because I haven't played in a while. But I'm tRyiNg. Also also, I hoped this goes as I planned. I didn't get the curly hair gene of my family, but I did see my cousins grow up with it, and a lot of my favorite creators also talk about their hair care. It's always a cool thing to learn about, but I'm sorry if it's not super specific to one curl type or if I messed up.
Lucifer
He doesn't really think about your hair until he sees everything required to maintain it.
(IMO) He's the type to water hair care down to the very basics. He knows Asmo goes out of his way to be excessive, so he probably doesn't expect more then three products and a simple routine from most people.
Asks you if you need help.
^Tbh he's probably the second best brother to ask for assistance when it comes to these matters. Being the oldest, Lucifer has been exposed to a lot of stuff. Sure, none of his siblings have curls, but he's of the belief that nothing can be harder than that time Asmo needed help styling a wig.
(He's thankful that Lilith, while she was alive, was fairly self sufficient. He doesn't think he could have done that every single day)
Makes a mental list of everything you use but still doesn't understand what the hell everything is.
"What's the difference between volumizing and thickening?" "You're hopeless."
Mammon
Probably doesn't treat your hair much different, except for one thing: he likes to watch your curls bounce.
Sometimes pulls on your strands just to see them return to shape.
(He's is everyone's worst nightmare when it comes to personal space. Honestly give him like a slinky or something and that might get him to keep his hands to himself)
Also he definitely uses your stuff I'm so sorry.
If he likes how it smells, it doesn't matter if it's meant for his hair type or not. He's using it.
Which might be a step up from the axe spray and 3-in-1 body wash, but that's up for you to decide.
Leviathan
Very interested in how you take care of your hair.
(Cosplay opportunities pop up at random times. It wouldn't hurt to learn this skill.)
Might get intimidated by everything, but he is a quick learner.
He's also incredibly nervous about messing up your hair so like, Levi might shut down if you give him a task he deems too big.
If you use hair accessories a lot, he's probably going to get stuff for you that's related to the many fandoms he's apart of (Or he might make stuff for you if there isn't anything avaliable. Definitely would be the type to decorate clips and beads.)
((If you get your hair braided, he likes watching the process. Asmo does too but Levi most likely finds great satisfaction in such skilled work.))
Satan
Isn't really going to notice much.
Probably likes playing with hair though so if you do treatments you gotta be ready to tell him off.
(Or tell him off in general if you just don't want him playing with it. He'll understand, no hurt feelings here. Unlike Mammon who will act like you stabbed him and left him to die)
"I can't tell what's yours or mine in here" He says, as he searches through the shower filled with your hair products and his potions.
Asmodeus
Pays incredible detail to everything you do.
He wants to help! (And he's also nosey af)
((If you braid your hair this fucker is not the one to ask. I'm sure he's great in every other aspect, and can do cute, loose braids, but he does box braids and such so tight that you will need to redo them. Asmo sometimes takes the phrase "beauty is pain" a little too far and while you might have nice looking braids, your scalp will be dying))
Will absolutely get doubles of your products for his bathroom.
Probably reads too much hair care stuff for his own good. He might have your trying things out that you don't need.
Just tell him to shut up.
Beelzebub
No real interest in your hair care.
But he is very protective about people touching your hair.
(Whether you share your experiences or he simply witnesses someone doing it, he isn't going to like it.)
Also is like, on a journey to get you a baseball cap collection. Whether or not you want one doesn't seem to matter at this point.
Belphegor
Similar to Beelzebub. Doesn't like people touching you.
Probably uses your stuff out of laziness.
Also? If you use silk pillow cases? He's stealing them
You're going to have to share a bed with him to use them again.
He's fairly decent with simple hair styles tbh. But he'll rarely ever use that to help. Belphie doesn't really see the point when you look like you rolled out of bed looking amazing.

i ask about art style because i'm currently trying to develop one myself. i can do realism well but that's not what i want to do, and it's harder to do that from imagination anyway (at least for me). i always need an exact reference, which really narrows down what i can draw. but i really can't figure out how to stylize things kajsfkjs.
AHHH i see what you mean lmao. it’s not really a problem i’ve fully dealt with (i’ve never been good with realism so i never tried 💀) but a couple of tips that i’ve found help me with drawing what i want to draw:
the first one is gonna sound sacrilegious in some circles but like hear me out tbh: reference / *trace / examine styles that you like or that are close to what you’re looking to go for in your art. directly reference them when you’re drawing and mimic them so you can get a feel and understanding for how the style itself operates. i say trace with an asterisk bc i know people are like OMG DONT TRACE but to me personally tracing is bad when you trace over someone’s art directly and claim it as your own. p shitty. tracing to understand style is a completely different thing bc you’re using it as a learning tool. i do it all the time tbh and i find learning from actual art vs real photos is super helpful in understanding how to stretch your limits artistically. it helps you think more in a “this is stylistic how are they capturing that” versus capturing the image as close to real as possible.
secondly, using reference isn’t bad, but use them like stepping stones—don’t be afraid to patch different references together so you can “see” something. it takes a good while to get to a point where you can just dream up whatever and have it happen lol. but i tend to use references more like “fill in the blanks” when i can’t figure things out. it’s gonna be uncomfortable but think of it like writing a scene or describing something — a place, a character, etc. you can’t “reference” that writing to life, you have to prod and poke and fiddle with it to get it sounding how you like in your head. drawing is very similar just with images. sometimes what helps me personally is i will list out what traits i want a drawing to have or i’ll discuss them with myself beforehand of what this character looks like (bc i mainly do character art lol) and what things i need or want to include. then i go reference hunting if there’s certain things i can’t picture just so i can make it a clearer visualization. then i start drawing. a kinda example is this picture here, where you see on the side i have a list of characteristics and then the finished oc (verin) in the middle lol.
Tumblr media
or, in this i literally found a stylized wig to help me figure out how to draw the hair (the bun specifically) bc i was BUGGIN about it i could not figure it out and it was making me Angry
Tumblr media
but that’s what i mean by using a piece of a reference. i didn’t use a ref for the rest of the drawing i kind of just said hey i want her to look like this this and this let’s go. that’s why first step of finding styles you like and trying to emulate them is important bc obvs i can’t just say “oh yeah just write it down you’ll visualize it” like the more you practice drawing near a style you like the more it’ll help you build and branch on your own.
finally, tbh it takes a long time and a lot of practice to get to a point where you can say “yep this is my artstyle” and feel happy with it. like i draw a lot and i’m still not really sure what constitutes my own style but like. i can recognize my art. it’s just not where i want it to be yet. your art style will constantly be growing and changing just based on the media and art you consume no different than writing. you’ll notice yourself incorporating the most random shit you didn’t think had an impact on you but did. for instance, i used to have such a shit time drawing noses until i saw (1) artist draw that little line that i do under noses and i just assimilated that into how i draw now lmao.
idk if any of these are PARTICULARLY helpful bc i’m like. not good with skill and terminology terms my brain when i draw is literally “brrrrr” so much subconscious thinking when i draw tbh lol. i can definitely try giving you more pointers if it’d help?? or i can upload some of my drawing videos that my ipad records bc idk for me something that does help is when i watch other people draw i can see How they did something or built it up for the most part 💀

Hi! I love when you ship ppl with Evan Peters characters so I was hoping you would do me :)
I am 5'6, white, but tan :) and skinny with brown hair that goes past my shoulders (straight/wavey) and brown doe eyes
I am an extrovert but love being alone to bench watch youtube or mindlessly scroll through Tumbler lol
I am Texan but have to accent, I love music so much (It can change how my day goes and I just love it more than anything)
I LOVE playing vball and I love doing art (I have been working on realism <3 Which I plan on posting on my page soon)
My fav color is purple and pink <3
I love horror, but hate jump scares lol
I have misaphonia (basically hate little sounds you can search it up if you want <3) and it can make me agitated and I have to like leave the room if I cant stand it
I hate reading chapter books, only comics and graphics
I dont like anime or anything cartoon really
Stevie Nicks is my fucking Idol lol
Most people say I am funny and fun to be around which is sweet lol
um yeah! I hope this was enough!!!! :)
I ship you with… KITKAT
Tumblr media
So first off would love your hair and your eyes. Would love to play with your hair and would maybe even learn to style and braid it because he does the same for his daughters hair <3
Also loves music, because Uhm who doesn’t?? But he’d love your taste in music specifically because he finds so many little things that remind him of you in it gkrjgjejg. Will just sit with you after work and listen to music, not really talking just enjoying the silence only interrupted by the soft trills of music.
would love to play vball with you and would love to include the kids in it as well. And your art? He would adore it and ask you to draw him. He’d sit super still for you but would end up cracking a smile. Would spoil you rotten and buy you so much art supplies that you don’t even know what to do with all of it
once you explained your misaphonia to him he would be extra careful around you and always make sure you’re comfortable but definitely wouldn’t coddle you over it because no one likes to be coddled over something they can’t control. If you would begin to panic he’d ask what he can do to help and if you need to be left alone he will do just that. Will not bother you until you come to him. King of giving space
He’d love to hang around you and just relax in your presence. You don’t even have to really talk sometimes. He’s perfectly content with just being near you.

i want to get into poetry. help?
my dear i'm going to be real with you -- i may not be the best person to ask if you want to Seriously get into poetry because nearly Everything i read is contemporary (i know i need to branch out. i know.). that being said, a great method is to just go down an absolute rabbit hole after discovering a poem you like.
there are a lot of ways to read poetry. while it's good to pay attention to craft and all that comes with it, you don't need to be an expert in literary techniques to appreciate poetry -- plenty of good poems can speak to you otherwise! as you read more poetry, you'll gain more skills. the only way to begin is by beginning, etc. the only thing i can say is really sit with poems! don't rush through them. in short works, every word counts and will make your reading experience better.
i think hanif abdurraqib is a fantastic starting point for people who aren't super into poetry, especially if they find it flowery or difficult to understand. hanif is super grounded and real while still writing beautifully. some of my favorite poems of his are "and what good will your vanity be when the rapture comes", "poems on an email exchange", "when i say that loving me is kind of like being a chicago bulls fan", "dudes, we did not go through the hassle of getting these fake ids for this jukebox to not have any springsteen", among many many others.
my favorite poet of all time is kaveh akbar, who is actually the poet that formally got me really into poetry. he is beautifully lyrical without being over the top and i cannot recommend his collection pilgrim bell enough. that being said, "stop me if you've heard this one before" is the poem of his that was my gateway drug. other poems i love very much include "forfeiting my mystique", "the palace", "against dying", "heritage", "i wouldn't even know what to do with a third chance", and i'm going to stop here before i go crazy. if you're into poetry readings, he did this lecture/panel/thing a few years ago -- he has a really hypnotizing, gorgeous style of reading poetry that i love.
other contemporary poets who i love include cameron awkward-rich, franny choi, solmaz sharif, ada limón, natalie diaz, summer farah, ocean vuong, and dante émile (who is here on tumblr!). this is a very very short list shaped by my personal preferences -- if you send me a dm with the vibes you like, i can probably get a more specific list of actual poems. to sound a little cultured, a slightly older poet who i love very much is frank o'hara, which, you know, basic choice, but he's special to me.
in short: find a poem you like, and follow the rabbit! there are so many poems just online. a secondhand bookshop is also a great place to start building a physical collection, if you want to get into that (you totally should, eventually, once you find poets you like -- sometimes you have the worst day at work and you just need to lay in bed with your favorite poems in hand).

not sure if this is an ask youve gotten before, how does DID affect ur sex life if you mind sharing? ive done alot of research about the subject, and was curious. if you dont wanna respond to that that's okay. remember we can be mentally ill and horny all we want 💕
This really took a lot longer to get to than planned. But I do want to finally answer this- we got off track due to a lot of stuff going on personally so it wasn't anything bad with this in specific. I do want to preface most people would be fucking weirded out by this questions so probably don't go around randomly asking people that- but if I recall correctly one of our alters stated we're fine with invasive questions so it is a-okay when it's us lmfao
It also makes our sexuality a bit odd. Some alters are more so asexual and other alters are aromantic and allosexual (we say we're allosexual because most alters are and we have a lot of very hypersexual alters).
When it comes to certain alters fronting (being in control of the body in layman's terms) that can really change how we approach sex and what we're into. One alter is more into pet play + subbing than the majority of other alters are. Some of our alters are strict doms, strict subs, some are strict service tops, some are power bottoms- a lot are fine being switchy as well. It all depends on the alter fronting. Which then also sometimes makes relationships weird because what we are willing to do and what we actively love or want to do can shift- it can be annoying to a partner when something we can usually give is just suddenly off the table for a period of time.
For us it really is like having multiple people in one body- when it comes to the variety in alters' ways of dom/sub styles, kinks, and so on.
Accepting I had DID and was a system was helpful for understanding how we approach sex and sexuality and why we have so many varying wants. The wants and the kinks and the things we're into stay constant- but they're constant to specific alters and not constant to the entirety of our system. Saying we're a switch is so much easier than explaining we're all these different things depending upon specific variables that may be subject to change due to alters not always staying as they are.
A thing that's more tied to trauma than to just our DID is the alters who are super sexual almost always when they front. One of them is an incubus*. The incubus alter also tends to be incredibly promiscuous leading to us having to basically make any relationship we're in an open one because of their tendencies. This also goes for more alters as well. And it gets more difficult because some alters don't like the people we do one off things with. (It's been solely online and the only thing stopping us from going out irl is the whole... excessive agoraphobia though we do have a partner we're in a polyam relationship with us).
*to explain non-human alters briefing, no he is not delusional they know it is physically human. The nonhuman thing more so happens to be symbolic of trauma/an idea of what they want to be/identify with. Like a persona versus a real image of yourself
Please do not take this as us speaking for all people with DID- it's just our own experience.
