Update:
Hi guys! So, I was feeling pretty down finding out I may not be able to retake classes if I transfer, and also that the classes I wanted to retake are either not available, full, or would be difficult to work into my schedule. However, I'm trying not to lose hope. I made an appointment to speak with a counselor at my current school so I can ask about this. I also emailed admissions. For the school I wish to transfer to, I asked several staff members about this. I also emailed admissions about retaking classes and if they'd replace my grade. I also asked admissions about my registration hold. They placed a registration hold on me because I opted out of using "ID.me" I was going to use it but it literally WOULD. NOT. WORK. I would take a picture of my ID, and hit submit then it said the page was lost. EVERY. TIME. I said forget it, because on the colleges website it said that you could opt out, it just may take longer to process your application which I was like okay, that's fine I guess. But now they are saying I have an indefinite hold until I get it removed...which is not what the website said so that's kind of annoying. Especially since this school is 2 hours away from where I currently live so it's not so easy to just go over there. I hope they can give me a secure link to upload the photos/documents. I don't wanna drive all the way over there just to come back for work T_T
But, yeah that's how I've spent basically my whole day :)
I'm still not feeling that great so I'm gonna do some self care, and then I will get on my BLS course. I still haven't touched it since Monday T_T Ugh, I need to follow my plan, not my mood >:) This is going to be good for me in long run. Especially if I end up not being able to raise my GPA as much as I had thought. Getting that work experience will be really good to try to strengthen my application.
Alrighty, ya'll have a wonderful day!

Welcome to my blog!
To whomever may be reading this,
Hello! Welcome to my blog! I am 22 years old and an aspiring Diagnostic Medical Sonographer! I'm making this blog to document my journey from ground 0 to being a registered sonographer.
Allow me to talk a bit more about myself and why I want to go into this profession. I have been undecisive about what I want to pursue for about 4 years now. Ever since I left high school I have felt lost. I tried multiple majors, and none of them felt like they were the right fit for me. I was scared of going into medicine for several reasons, so the idea of going into medicine never really crossed my mind after that. I was scared, because I didn't know. I didn't know what types of jobs were available in the medical field, except for only a few roles. After some time and getting to know myself better, I thought hey, maybe me and medicine would be a good fit. I like to think of myself as smart and disciplined. I have a natural knack for science and math. I believe myself to be caring and empathetic. I am an introvert though, so that was a trait of mine that made me have doubts. I couldn't see myself being a nurse or doctor. I looked into some medical fields I could do with not much schooling, as I am paying out of pocket. 2c year degrees like nursing, respiratory therapy and radiology/sonography came up. The imaging careers caught my attention and from what I hear from others, it is a good medical career to pick if you are an introvert. I love kids, so I instantly thought of working with expecting mothers, or even specializing in pediatrics.
That's how I got here. Right now I'm trying to find a program, but they are so hard to find. I find some trade schools who offer programs, but they aren't accredited with CAAHEP. I find some programs but they have a huge waitlist and will not be accepting new applicants. Doesn't leave me with any nearby options it seems. I may have to go to a school kind of far. I'm still going to be doing research on programs near me, see if maybe I can find one or maybe the full ones start accepting applicants. In the mean time, I plan on getting myself into the hospitals. Someone I saw on tiktok said they would recommend entry level jobs, specifically if you can get one related to imaging. I've looked at the hospitals in my area, and even these entry level jobs have some requirements like BLS. I thought I had my BLS, but I only have CPR/FIRST AID/AED. So, my first step is getting my BLS, that way I can start applying for some entry level jobs and get experience while I wait for a program. The American Red Cross will be having some classes in my area and the beginning of next year, so I'm going to sign up for the class. It's 92 bucks, but hey, I want this! I want to be a sonographer! I want a good job that makes me happy. I was gonna sign up for the class tomorrow, but why wait? I'm gonna sign up right now!!!

Update: 1/12/25
Hi Tumblr,
Happy New Year! I hope this year is an amazing one!
It's been a while since I last updated on my journey to becoming becoming a tech. I ended up not going to my BLS in-person portion of the class. I didn't get the online portion done :( I know this looks bad, I had an entire month to get it done T_T I have a lot of bad habits of mine to break before I'm ready for a radtech program and one of them is procrastination...I still have access to the online portion so I'm going to finish it THIS week! Once I finish it, I will purchase the class again and go through the course AGAIN to review everything the remaining 3 weeks. The in-person portion is February 12th :) I'll be honest, I got into a bad habit of not taking school seriously, but having to do this all on my own with no financial support anymore is going to get me to take this more seriously. 92 bucks wasted on this last course T_T On top of that, it shows that I'm not ready for school as much as I want to be in a program right now. I can't even commit and stay on top of a simple BLS class that was only like a month long with a short in-person section. I need to get my act together >:(
Also, my current school as well as one of the school's I'm interested in for RT both said to retake my classes at my current school. The only class available was HTML so I'll be retaking this class. This class was back when I wanted to get into web design. Computers weren't for me, and I ended up failing the class. I'm starting with the class that I failed first. I'm paying out of pocket and can't really afford multiple classes right now anyway. I only have 3 that I failed. Once I get through those, the ones I got C's in I have to file a petition. Hopefully I can retake them. I want to get as close to a 3.6 as possible T_T I think when I was running the numbers, if I retook the classes I failed in and got A's I would have a 3.0 Not the best for RT school, but hopefully with some job experience, volunteer experience, and a killer interview I could still get in if I end up not being able to retake all the classes I want. Trying to stay hopeful and remind myself that this is going to be a long and difficult journey, but it'll be over before I know it and it'll be so worth it in the end :D
I'm going to try to update daily showing you guys my progress on the BLS course :)

Also, this is my new planner for the year! I normally get the fit planner from Blogilates, but I don't really make use of the fit portion of it lol, so I thought I might as well get a normal planner. I got an Erin Condren planner. It's cute, but they are priceyyyy and mine came with an error :) One of the daily spreads was put RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the monthly spread...I hadn't opened up the planner until closer to the new year and that was past the amount of days they said to bring up any issues with the planner...As far as I know it's only the one page, so I'll just deal with it lol just disappointing is all considering how much they charge for these planners.
I personalized the front to be an inspo board for the new year. I have some RT stuff on there, fitness, health, etc. I love it, and I've been using it everyday!

Update: 3/27/25
Hey guys been awhile...
I am still trying to get my BLS certification T_T I don't know why it's been so hard for me! Well, I do. I'm just anxious I guess about getting it because then that means I can start applying to jobs that require it. It scares me because people's lives will be in my hands, and that's nerve wrecking. I want to try and learn it perfectly. Know it back and front, and that's a lot of pressure so I get a lot of anxiety when I think about having to sit down to study and do the lessons...
I've been doing well with it though lately. This is my 3rd time trying to get this certification. I am the farthest in I have gotten. I'm 24% complete. Based on when my class is I am to get 5% done each day so I can finish on time, but have a reasonable amount to get done each day. Today is my 3rd day doing this and I'm happy to say I'm on track :D I'm surprised at how easy the information is and how well I'm retaining it. Obviously in the real world that may be a different story due to adrenaline, but at least for now I feel confident in my knowledge. I wish I could practice on a dummy for more than a day though!!!
I have three programs in mind for RadTech. On of which isn't accepting applications until 2027. I'm gonna try other schools in the meantime when I'm ready to apply, but that would be my dream school!! I'm looking at their requirements. I had seen one program that said it looked at degree applicable grades, but others say they still look at your cumulative GPA, so I still gotta retake these classes :( I'm doing well though. Right now I'm retaking HTML and CSS. This was back when I had an interest in computers and web design. I realized that part of what makes someone a good fit for RT is an interest in technology which I will use once time for interviews. I have changes my major several times which looks bad, but I have to try to find ways to spin it to actually look good for me T_T Next semester I will retake another computer class. It'll be object oriented design? T_T I really did not get this class, but I have to retake it. I want an A!!! It's unfortunately another night class, and it runs longer than my current night class...but it's only once a week and I need to get rid of the F, so I have to do it...but after that all the other classes I want to retake are more common classes people take and will likely have online options or options at least during the day!! So these should be my only night classes!!! But yeah. not much to update on :(

Update: Retaking classes
Hey ya'll,
I know I've been posting a lot today, bear with me lol. So, per my last update, the microbiology class I want to take is full. They all are T_T All of the ONLINE ones. There is one in-person section that DOES have 4 spots. The only thing is it is from 5:30 to 10:20...I work at 6:40 in the morning, so for class to END at 10:20 and my college is like 40 mins away, I would be getting behind on sleep so fast. Part of me is like, just suck it up, the programs are gonna be even harder than what I'll go through. However, another part of me is like, the program is going to burn me out, why burn myself out BEFORE the program? Other things I think about is that, my performance at work would likely suffer as I wouldn't be getting much sleep. Again, things that will also be true during the program, but again part of me is like why do that now when you don't have to? But the main thing honestly, is that I don't know if pushing myself like that would get me the A I NEED. I need As to get my GPA up as high as I can. Even online would be tough, but at least I can work with MY schedule. So, instead I'm considering retaking another class that I failed wayyyy back. I only have 3 Fs. The microbio, HTML, and Object Design and analysis from when I was considering going into web design. ODS isn't available for Spring, so that leaves me with HTML which isn't online >:( but it's not so late at least. It's 6 to 8:30. I hate driving in the dark T_T but that's the only thing stopping me really. Also, being by myself walking to my car in the dark...but...probably not good reasons to not take the class lol I haven't registered yet, but it is in my planned right now. I will update later :)

Update: Microbio
I had emailed the professor of the section, and he said that the system is messing up and not filling the remaining seats with the people on the waitlist. So, the class IS full...I guess I'm not taking any classes :(

BLS Class
Hey guys!
So, like I said last night, I bought my BLS course. I have about a month to get through the online portion, and then I will take the 3 hour in-person portion January 8th. I have a certification for CPR/AED/First-Aid, so hopefully not too much of this will be new information. I'm happy to get to review, because I only had a week to do the online portion for that class. I really plan on doing this daily. My goal is to spend at least an hour a day going through the online portion. I want to finish by the end of the month, so that way the first week of January I can just spend it reviewing the material to prepare for the class. I'm taking this very seriously as I'm looking into becoming a CTA, PCA, or a Transporter for Imaging. Even transporters must knew BLS. This is the whole reason I'm doing this. I want to become a sonographer, but it's hard finding a good school right now, but I don't want to just do nothing in the mean time. I watched a video of a guy who went through ultrasound school, and he gave 3 things he wish he had done before going to school. On of the things he mentioned was getting one of the jobs I just listed. So, this is why I'm doing this. I can't even get one of those jobs just yet, because I'm missing this certification, but come January I will and can start applying to hospitals. I would rather be a CTA just so I can actually work with someone doing imaging, but anything related to the field I'll take! I started a bit of the course today. I plan on taking this course as seriously as I did my anatomy class, I'm so proud of myself by the way! I did awesome in that class! Lol, just showing myself some admiration, but anyway that's all I have for an update. I'll be back tomorrow!

Update: BLS class & Microbiology
Hi tumblr!
I just wanted to hop on here and give an update. So, I haven't touched the BLS course material since Monday, and I didn't even get to do as much as I had wanted :( It's okay though! That class isn't until January 8th, today is December 6th, so I still have plenty of time to get that done and be ready for the in-person portion of getting my certification :) I'll do at least an hour today, like I planned. Also, since I want to be a sonographer, that means either going to sonography school right away, or doing rad tech and then furthering my education for sonography. Either way, these programs are COMPETITIVE! I was looking up if my GPA (2.6) would even have be eligible to apply, and it can be depending on the program. However, I was reading an advice post from those who do admissions into these programs, and she was basically saying that while that is the MINIMUM to apply, most years the LOWEST that gets accepted is a 3.5
I can get to a 3.6, but I'm gonna have to retake several classes and get A's in them T_T It's okay though! I'm happy my GPA isn't a total lost cause, and also I feel much more ready for college now than I did when I was a freshman. This also means I NEED to get this BLS, so I can get some work experience in this field because the post also said that some students had even lower GPA's (like maybe a 3.3) but they had other strong things about their application (other degrees, work experience, and A's in the important classes like math and science).
She said it's dependent on the program obviously, but work/volunteer experience, your interview (if they do interviews), and entrance exam scores can help strengthen your chances.
So I need to be:
Getting my BLS so I can get some work/volunteer experience
Retake classes to raise my GPA (As preferably to raise my GPA as much as I can) Since I'm paying out of pocket, and only get 3 tries at a class, if I feel burnt out, then I will take a break. I am not ruining my chances at getting into this field because I want to rush it. Good things take time.
Look into strengthening my interviewing skills
Look into what is tested on in the entrance exams, and work on studying for those too
1 and 2 are my main priority right now though, and I'm not anywhere near being able to get into a program T_T There aren't even any good ones near me. There's two at two community colleges, which I thought were better than for profit, but these community colleges aren't CAAHEP accredited either T_T They are both JRCERT. I've heard if your school isn't CAAHEP accredited, then you shouldn't even bother because you can't take your exams T_T I'm gonna look more into this
I've been trying to register to retake microbiology, because I failed it :( However, the system my school uses keeps saying it's full when it ALSO SAYS there are 2 spots available...I didn't know you can register with an add/drop form (lol) so I submitted one of those. It says it'll take 2-3 business days so...hopefully I get in T_T Wish me luck! Also, I can't believe how many departments and people I have emailed about this issue and NO ONE has gotten back to me! My school is honestly really lousy when it comes to getting back to you. I sent out like 3 emails asking for a counseling appointment. Nothing. I went in and she made me an appointment right then and there. There was no one else waiting to make an appointment...yet no one could get back to my email. My sister said she's had them HANG UP ON HER! She was in high school at the time and doing dual enrollment. Her high school counselor said he'd call them, and they ended up hanging up on him too...smh.
Anyway, enough rambling, I am gonna go and I will be back later with hopefully good news that I got my class! :D
