so, does anyone else feel sick about the fact that, in the books, Rimmer spends as much of his free time as possible in stasis (he literally spends a year's worth of time in stasis, over the course of five years), and that, officially, stasis booths are only ever used for penal reasons? does anyone else feel sick about the implications that Rimmer has been voluntarily punishing himself for five years straight?

IS ANYONE OUT THERE??? LITERALLY ANYONE?????
I HAVE NOT ONLY LIB THOUGHTS BUT AIAH THOUGHTS AND IM GONNA COMBUST
ANYONE PLEASE
anyway heres some miah (and aiah as a treat) thoughts below cut
hey what if the man in a hurry was trapped inside the bastards box and his perception of time is royally fucked up. what if hes in such a hurry because he thinks hes picking up his child from school for the last time. because the divorce paper went through. because of course helen will get the kids, he doesnt have the time to take care of them
on the other hand, yeah barry could be a nurse, or any job that requires precise time measurements really. but what if hes a known drug dealer. what if hes on the run from the police all the time, hence the hurry. i mean hes known to carry a gun. and he has a knife on him. and hes slightly unhinged. and he screams "CHAOS REIGNS!!!!!!" at the top of his lungs unprovoked
in a similar vein: barry swift on skates. its faster than walking, its less exhausting than running. hes really good at skating. you see a man on skates rolling around town, pushing people out of his way and being a dick? congrats, thats one of the local assholes. and hes dating gary goldstein attorney at law, the only lawyer in town, so no one could do anything about it
sometimes gary manages to convince barry so "slow down, smell the flowers", walk around town, appreciate the scenery. barry wouldnt get rid of his skates tho, hes in a hurry. so gary tries to keep up with him, also on skates. they skate around hatchetfield, but gary is shit at skating and keeps almost falling over.
sorry for this. i just got the image of miah casually strolling on rollerblades, while gary is falling over himself trying to keep up (also on skates) in my mind

byan's distrust and outright fear of hospitals is something that's come up a bit in threads and muse discussion, but i've never really talked about why they hate them so much?
for one, they have a heavy distrust of any authority figures, including doctors and nurses. pair that with the fact that being treated in the hospital puts them in a vulnerable position and not in any control of things going on around them or to them, that's already enough reason for them to hate the place. and YET... the thing that really traumatized them and created a proper fear of hospitals happened when they were 12. after running away from an abusive foster home, which put them back on the street as they had no where else to go, byan stole from the wrong person and wound up severely injured in the resulting altercation. someone found them, called an ambulance, and they woke up in a hospital bed. using clues from the things they'd had stuffed away in their backpack, the hospital managed to find byan's identity and, from there, found their family - or, the foster family they were still technically under the care of. when the nurse told them that their family had been called and was already on the way, byan panicked and pleaded with her to not let them in, but... of course that didn't work. she thought they were merely afraid of the consequences of running away and being out so late in such an unsafe part of the city, brushing off their concerns to assure them that everything would be fine. it wasn't.
going to the hospital resulted in the family they fled from not only finding them, but dragging them back to that terrible house which became much, much more difficult to escape from after that. and that's all they can think about anytime they're in one of those buildings, be it in a bed or simply visiting.
