can i just say how much it mildly annoys me when i see speedrun categories that are just a word with % after it

i feel like, if specifically i was in charge of the terminology, you should only ever put % after a number, or a thing that is standing in place of a number. if you do not already agree allow me to ramble about it under the cut

for instance:

-100%. obvious.

-any%. also logical; the percentage does not matter, just get to the end ASAP

-low%. sometimes the same as any%, but there are cases where it saves time to get more stuff, so getting less stuff is still interesting

-max%. also sometimes the same as 100%, but more often than not includes stipulations such that obtaining 100% might be impossible.

those are all of the speedrun categories that i think make sense to be called [something]%. literally not a single other one has any reason to be a percentage, because other categories have more arbitrary rules.

like, the classic ocarina of time dank%. you could count the "percentage" as having a deku stick and a bottle, but there is no quantifiable "percentage of game completion" that can be applied to OI'ing a deku stick that's on fire. literally none at all.

or the reason i made this post, tears of the kingdom restaurant%. again, there is no quantifiable "percentage of game completion" from getting those specific foodstuffs and autobuilding the sales window. or, rather, there is-- but any percentage you do calculate could be reached by doing literally anything else. if you want the category to specifically be doing one thing, define it (and name it) as doing that one thing. the percentage leaves ambiguity!

then this one is kind of a doozy: antonblast, instead of having a 100% category, has an 83% category. (because true 100% would be ass.) and i don't like this. i know why they picked 83%-- that's the amount the tracker on your save file displays after getting all main collectibles in a level-- but once again you could get 83% by doing things other than getting all main collectibles. SO JUST CALL THE CATEGORY "ALL MAIN COLLECTIBLES!!!!" IT'S MORE CONCISE AND LEAVES NO AMBIGUITY ON WHAT EXACTLY THE CATEGORY WANTS YOU TO DO IN ONLY THE NAME! AND IF THAT'S TOO LONG JUST CALL IT "AMC" FOR SHORT!

like i know i made fun of oot earlier but that was a category extension, the main leaderboard has really good category names (presumably because of zfg who also is picky about this); Medallions, Stones, Trials requires you beat the game after getting all the medallions, spiritual stones, and defeating ganon's trials. Defeat Ganon is different from any% (which does a warp to the credits) and can you guess how? it's because you have to actually defeat ganon in that category. Ganon Source Requirement goes further, and i'll admit is not entirely clear what that means unless you're familiar, but simply put it has stricter requirements than Defeat Ganon and looser requirements than MST.

now one could say "but nora, you said it yourself, the silly category names are for meme runs on category extensions!" and yes, for the most part that's true, it is just meme runs (except for antonblast 83% grumble grumble). and also, yes, the name being ambiguous is not a substitute for reading the rules nor is it permission to break them.

and sometimes it's shorthand for making it obvious something is a speedrun because you slapped % onto it. but that excuse sucks because it's obvious it's a speedrun by the fact it has a timer and is called "a [something]% run."

yes, to all of that, i will admit that i am being kind of a buzzkill here. but personally it makes literally zero sense to me to call a speedrun [something]% when its definition is more arbitrary than the four ones i outlined earlier and has no meaningful "amount of game completion." i know it's all jokes, i know that one random bitch complaining isn't gonna make people stop doing it overnight, but goddamn it it bugs me in particular and i wanted to complain about it.

I just wanted to say im obessed with your art, its so crisp and smooth and the hair highlights are really pretty. Can i ask what inspired you art style

mmm that's a tough one, but i'll try and name the inspos i can recall

sonic the hedgehog FOR SURE is at the core. he's always had this "sweet spot" that allows him to be both cute and cool whenever he needs, and that's been something i've wanted to strive for and somewhat succeeded at imo (i don't draw enough cool arts, it's mostly cute and/or sexy ;u;)

lineart, cel shading, and overall style i'd say is "anime filtered through an early 2000s cartoon lens," if that makes any sense. mostly western with some general anime influence. the drop shadows come from 80s animated cartoons and how the cels sometimes left a shadow on the background

the abundance of straight lines i believe came about when i drew some g1 transformers. my art was incredibly rounded at the time, so trying to draw incredibly blocky robots was... an experience. over time i found straight lines to be both easier and faster to draw, but while i would incorporate that somewhat into my art, it wasn't until i played ANTONBLAST that i cranked it up to eleven. that game's artstyle made me realize i had MUCH further to go, so i cranked the edges and line weights up to eleven and i couldn't be happier

the pixel brush i'm honestly not sure about. could be influenced from me doing spriteart on the side, could be influenced from my drawcast days. maybe it's both?

and the hair highlights i honestly don't remember the inspiration for. part of me wants to say i sourced it from some touhou fanart, but my brains foggy on the whole thing, sorry

(cue a montage of Anton yelling "Waiter!" in different ways as he and Annie get progressively more wasted)

Tony has stated in an Antonblast stream he was a guest in (forget which one) that Anton was raised by his mom alone! They say Anton is still waiting for his dad to come back with those smokes and beer to this day.

I could totally see Annie's folks wanting her to be prim and proper while she's just a total goblin child. The kind that bites people and learns a new curse word every day. She'd probably take being called a 'devil spawn' as a compliment, before learning that the devil is real and kind of a colossal loser.

I can also see her and Anton being friends as kids. There's like a 4-5 year age gap between them (dont qoute me on that, but according to sources anton is early thirties and annie is late twenties) so their friendship was probably like 'Anton and the awful gremlin girl who latched onto him like a tick and won't leave him alone' before they became friends for real. A friendship born from TPing people's houses, putting firecrackers in mailboxes, and lighting paper bags full of dogshit to put on porches. They were and still are each other's bad influence.

Another headcanon set, this time for the Dynamite Duo! i drank a can of soda and have many thoughts

Anton -Anton was raised solely by his mother (canonically, according to Tony) in the backstreets of Boiler City. He never knew his father, who abandoned the family when he was super young. Anton tries to be a better father than his old man with Amy. He's also a bit of a momma's boy. -Anton has thalassaphobia. He knows how to swim, but hates being in the ocean or even deep bodies of water. 'The Big Bath' was made by Satan specifically to torment Anton with this fear. -Anton really is one of the reddest people on/in the Earth. Few of the technicolor humans reach the same vivid red color as he does. He jokes and says its because he's angry all the time. -His liver might as well be made of titanium; he's been drinking for a long time and in such a large quantity, but he's never really suffered any serious health issues. Doctors are utterly baffled by it, thinking it might be some kind of mutation. (their world does exist in a post-nuclear war)

Annie -Unlike Anton, Annie has both of her parents; who are pretty damn loaded. Though she hated living with them and the upper crust (as upper crust as you can get in Boiler City) and ran away from home when she was 18. As per the ending credits, they've tried to contact her but she keeps destroying their letters. -She's known Anton for a pretty long time, the two meeting in Brulo's casino when she was about to be thrown out for not being 21. Anton bailed her out and ever since then they've been friends and roomates. -If Anton has a titanium liver, then Annie has an iron gut. She can eat food that's a week old and not get sick. She also likes eating really weird foods just to gross people out. Bonus ship headcanon -Her and Anton as a couple is... complicated. Sometimes they're dating, sometimes they're just roomates, but most of the time they describe themselves as friends with benefits.

antonball deluxe is a game with three gamemodes -- antonball is breakout, punchout is the original mario bros arcade thing, vs natonball is COMPETETIVE ANTONBALLLLL

there's a ton of characters you can play as but the plots follow either anton (main protag wario-looking guy) in antonball getting drunk off of soda, falling into a hole, and having to find his way home through sewers, or annie (this cute scrimblo on the post) in punchball where she enters a competition to win a lifetime supply of ballba tea. you can also play as danton (malewife of the series), nina (girlboss), at least 3 other anton clones, paul, a dlc golden baby fixed paul, peppino from Pizza Tower (also a good game), some furries with big boobs, ect ect

this hasn't even gotten into summitsphere's newest project, which is

ANTONBLAST!!! its a warioland-like (...like pizza tower too ig) where anton is getting back his spirits collection from Satan Himself, who thought said spirits were his source for being redder than him. great plot. also they ahve a demo, a kickstarter, and as i post this, just about to hit the kickstarter goal to PLAY AS ANNIE !!!! WOMEN! !!! IN VIDEOGAME IM SO EXCITED

they are both on steam and switch stores and i highly reccomend you check out both even though one is a demo rn because holy fuck you are not ready for how fun breakout is.
