A Visit To Paradise

An early birthday gift for @luxudus! In this little painting, a comet pays a visit to his world, Vuvlaiu!

Planet Xytherion, visible from space as a gleaming sphere, exhibits a vivid turquoise hue, with swirling silver mists suggesting a silicate-rich atmosphere. This celestial body is characterized by its vast crystal deserts, which glisten under the radiant glare of its twin suns. Surface exploration reveals these deserts are predominantly composed of amethyst and quartz, forming jagged, translucent formations that stretch for kilometers. The harsh climatic conditions of Xytherion, marked by sudden silicon storms, see these crystals often shrouded in a fine, abrasive dust. This phenomenon not only sculpts but also disperses glittering sand across its sprawling dunes, creating continuously shifting landscapes. Thermal scans indicate extreme temperature fluctuations, ranging from scorching diurnal highs to sub-zero nocturnal lows, challenging the stability of its silicon-based geological structures.

Galactic transit.

Originally completed 31st July 2024.

My interpretation: In the far future, humanity has expanded beyond our solar system and now spans the galaxy. But galactic civilizations need to transport, trade, and organise people and materials. At this mixed space port, passenger, freight, and commercial spaceships can be docked. It is an important hub in this system and is often frequented by massive star cruise ships that transport tourists and workers from star to star. On this occasion, a scientific exploration vessel is approaching the port attempting to seek a birth so its tired crew may find some rest and relaxation at the port before heading back out on another expedition.

Planet Obsidionis, observed from orbit, appears a daunting sight with its dark, reflective surface punctuated by the eerie glow of molten lava flows. This planet, slightly larger than Mars, exhibits a thin, almost negligible atmosphere composed mainly of sulfur dioxide, rendering the air unbreathable and maintaining a sweltering surface temperature. The landscape of Obsidionis is dominated by vast plains of volcanic glass, reflecting the scant sunlight in a kaleidoscope of dark, glossy hues. Jagged obsidian peaks rise sharply from these plains, forming ridges that catch the low light of the distant sun. Frequent volcanic activity disrupts the silence, spewing forth viscous lava which cools rapidly in the thin atmosphere, contributing to the ever-expanding fields of black glass. The planet's extreme conditions include sudden temperature shifts and violent ash storms, which further sculpt its harsh terrain into a formidable alien wilderness.
