Cause @the-indoor-kites TIPPED ME ABOUT IT???? (Still reeling thank you) it's time for
SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE VOTE 2, DISASTER BOOGALOO
SO WHAT HAS HAPPENED???
A lot, but a culmination of McCarthy not going extreme enough for the far right, while also not offering anything to the democrats (actually sometimes promising small ass things and then REFUSING WHEN IT COMES TO IT) has made McCarthy super unpopular w everyone.
AND THEN the govt needed the budget made/approved (an unfortunately YEARLY THING). Far Rights want horrendous shit in there, republicans don't want anything helpful that the Dems want. The classics. But in the face of a shutdown, McCarthy RIGHTLY chooses to avoid it by working w the Dems to pass a few weeks pass to work on their shit to get it figured out.
This makes the far right (Gaetz being the one to do it all either alone or as the point person) lose their shit.
And remember how he had to agree to weird ass rules to get the Far Rights to vote for him? Well one of those stupid rules was, instead of needing a group of people to agree to trigger a vote on if they want to oust the speaker. THEY ONLY NEED ONE PERSON. GAETZ.
So Gaetz calls for a vote on keeping McCarthy. Enough Rebups refuse to vote for him that unless Dems vote for him to save his ass he's toast.
Thing is McCarthy has been badmouthing the Dems to the press and blaming THEM for the budget not happening. So tho the Dems are like LOLL FUCK YOU THEN BRO. AND N O N E OF THEM VOTE TO SAVE McCARTHY. N O N E
So McCarthy is out. His bestie is PISSED and slams the gavel super hard and dismisses them.
We have no speaker, congress doesn't function if we don't have a speaker. (though some are floating the idea that they allow the interim speaker have powers to allow them to pass the budget lol aaaaa)
Repubs gotta pick a nominee for speaker. (Dems are still more than happy to back Hakeem Jeffries). Repubs have two dudes that are most likely. Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan
Scalise
Got shot in that one baseball shooting back in 2017
Has been the Repub WHIP (the assistant leader to the party leader)
Would not say that the election wasn't stolen
WINS THE NOMINATION TO BE VOTED ON FOR SPEAKER
REMOVES HIMSELF AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE???????
Jordan
Was the Ohio Wrestling Coach when their Team Doctor (Strauss) abused players (Denies knowing anything, is not believed)
wanted to be speaker after Paul Ryan was ousted (but dems won the house and his dreams were THWARTED)
Wanted to be minority leader, McCarthy won instead
actually floated himself as an option when McCarthy lost the first 3 votes earlier in the year
May have been asking for a pardon after jan 6
So like neither of these dudes are great, but I would have assumed the Whip would be the next speaker... and then he stepped away????
They could have voted last week, but declined w some republicans saying that Jordan didn’t have the votes. so they were taking the weekend to get ppl on board.
BRINGING US TO TUSEDAY 10/17/2023 around like noon.
Stefanik is in an aggressively pink skirt suit (probably not the right term) and gives a basic ass speech for Jim Jordan. Kinda a WE GOTTA GET IT TOGETHER SO VOTE FOR OUR IDIOT sentiment. Pro Israel cause they’re hoping that makes republicans care (loll please)
Jim Aguilar comes up, nice to see u again sir. Also gives a basic ass speech but Dems. They chant w him on a repeated line. Like okay but weird. Nominates Jeffries.
No other nominations.

Granger - Scalise
James - MIA/votes for John Cole in the recall (????)

Joyce - MIA/votes Jordan on recall
Kelly of PA - Scalise
Kiggins of VA - McCarthy (my dudes, he’s not getting re-elected…)
LaLota - Zelden (oh fun, he has more than one supporter)
LaMaufa - MIA/McCarthy on recall

Womack - Scalise (y’all a mess)
432 Present • 217 votes to win
200 votes Jordan
212 votes Jeffries (dems erupt in cheers, interim speaker looks annoyed lol)
6 McCarthy (sad my dudes)
3 Lee Zelden
7 Scalise (ha ha even Scalise beat you McCarthy)
1 Garcia
1 Tom Emmer
1 Tom Cole
1 Tom Massey
(Damn the toms)
No majority, no speaker has been chosen.
Interim speaker is REAL LOUD w that damn gavel. Immediately calls recess, feed cuts out.
They go into recess for like 2 hours.
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
- Rep Huizenga talks to reporters says he’s leaving cause they need to take more time to get more idiots on board.
- Spokesperson said 2nd vote to come at 6pm (it did not lmao)
- Jordan apparently asked to meet w Scalise to get more ppl on board. SCALISE APPARENTLY DECLINED
- Rep Buck said Jordan will lose more votes if he tries again. This could deflate the republicans in wanting to vote for him if he’s not a winning candidate
- 9 Republicans would have to vote present to allow Jeffries to win (which he would, since Jordan didn’t get over 200) but it would be against their interest and political suicide.
- republicans who don’t like Jordan were pushing for a second vote that night to further embarrass Jordan
Vote 2 next! >

In a significant development, US House Speaker Mike Johnson has confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will soon address a joint session of Congress. This is why we need to vote, and vote Democrat.
The Republicans aren't interested in policy, they are interested in coming for YOU, personally. I am saying this bc I think there are a lot of eligible, youger voters who maybe think that current things don't have anything to do with them..... It does.
The Speaker of the House attending this kind of event isn't normal. Part of our constitution is the separation of church and state. This violates that.
Make sure it doesn't become normal.

Wouldn't it be amazing if Jeffries could actually win?
The House might actually be able to pass things with Jeffries as the Speaker for the ENTIRE House. Not just one party.
But of course it won't happen, and we will be stuck with a dysfunctional GOP Speaker.
But one can always dream...

In true faux news fashion, anchor Brian Kilmeade broke the "bad news" that Republican Congressman Bob Good would not be voting for Speaker Mike Johnson. Except, er, Bob Good is not a Congressman and will not be voting.
Good thing the honorable Rep. Gym Jordan — known for usually keeping his mouth shut in sticky situations — was on the set to school the Fox host. "Well, remember, Brian, Bob Good has left. Maybe there is some other name," the former assistant coach offered.
To which the Foxbot, staring hard at his notes, asked, "Can we check that?"
But no checking was needed. "Bob Good lost that close primary back in that Virginia seat. John McGuire is the new member there…John will be voting for Mike Johnson for speaker," Jordan delicately, if not a bit nervously, explained. "So I think it's still just Thomas Massie who indicated he won't support the speaker. But I'm hopeful that everyone else will."
"All right. Good point," Kilmeade responded, as if points and facts are interchangeable (which I guess, on Fox, they are). "He's not there anymore so I shouldn't've brought that up. My bad." (See video below, posted by Aaron Rupar.)

Stacey Plaskett asking why the representatives from US colonies and territories were not called to vote for the speaker. Short answer is that they are non-voting members.
youtube
Note that the audio cuts out right as she says “—they have a voice!” If you watch the clip on MSNBC, you can hear more of her words, but the CC only states [applause]. This would be so trite and heavy-handed and unbelievable were it a scene in a movie.
And yes, the US does have a colonies and territories problem. They should become states or countries or whatever their people want. In the meantime, though, MAKE THEIR REPRESENTATIVES FULL VOTING MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE VOTE 2, DISASTER BOOGALOO CONT.
DAY 4 • October 20, 2023 • Third Vote, bye bye Jordan
< Previous (Day 3 Oops No Vote)
HOOO BOY MY DUDES.
So for some reason they planned this vote at 10am (cause they hate the west coasters??? Oh. Oh wait yeah, they probably wanted to make it more inconvenient so people want to get it done.)
Also C-Span hecked up??? And didn’t come on till a bit into ten and while the ALTERNATE CHAPLIN WAS ALREADY PRAYING.
This guy is NOT NICE CHILL LADY CHAPLIN. He sounds chill, but he said shit about "We need more of you (God)," and "[Lord] Lead us in your will." which again AGAIN. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. AT LEAST nice Lady Chaplin asks god to lead us for what is best for the people. WHERE IS OUR NICE LADY CHAPLIN.
They do the pledge and then do their "Call of the House" (head count buzz in to make sure they have a Quorum/majority of the reps). This also serves to find out what the total number is to base the needed votes for a majority. This is why they let the timer lapse around as long as it was going, to make sure they have all the votes possible for better chances at getting majority.
C-Span actually had journalist/reporters going today??? Which they hadn't all week. But good info was had that I'll add in the takeaways. Made me jump tho during roll call rofl.
We hear that one Republican is out on a """Fact Finding Mission to Israel""" and he is one that votes Jordan so, not great for that. Apparently NORMALLY there are 435 seats for a majority of 218 votes needed, but there's been 2 vacancies so that's why it's been 433. 2 Democrat Representatives are out (V. Gonzales and Payne, no word why but not really an issue). Roll ends with 427 Present (Which would mean 214 to have a majortiy but by final vote it was 429 votes, so really only 4 ppl MIA instead of 6 and 215 needed)
SPEECHES
lolol So McCarthy gave this nomination speech for Jordan and like, I know they don't hate each other but I hope that hurt.
Says, contrary to Dem talking points, Jordoran is an effective legislator (WHICH GETS FUCKING LAUGHTER, AMAZING)
Continues that the Speakership is about compromise and working long hours to get it done (implying Jordan can and has done these things) GETTING MORE LAUGHTER AND CHATTER and McHenry even fucking calls us to order about it lol
"Democrats are attacking Jim" because they don't want secure borders (my dude it is YOUR PARTY not electing him)
Called Jordan selfless (DOUBTFUL)
Quotes people who worked with or under him (stupid and ofc only the good ones)
Goes into an example of Jordan and like, man I hate the way McCarthy speaks/tells stories/way he talks. Grates on my nerves
We've got a job to do (yeah, yet you seem incapable so far)
Does more Jabs at democrats cuase he's exhausting and desperate to blame anyone but his party
BLessedly not the longest but still annoying
Clark, Rep of Massachussets is here to give us a speech (OOOooo she's new to me)
Blah blah 212 consistently, we rock and are united
Republicans are disconnected from the people
Pointed out Jordan voted against healthcare for Mothers, chlidren, elderly and Veterans (haha which got angry dissent noises, sucks to suck)
Also notes he voted against lowering the cost of insulin multiple times
That he's a reproductive healthcare extremist
Reminds us Jordan's an election denier, misinformation spreader, and a threat to our democracy
American people want us to work for them and re-open the house, but the republicans keep fighting each other instead
blissfully short and with a good pace and snappy delivery, I like you Clark
The fucking dems started chanting Jeffries name again and this time McHenry tried to gavel them back to order but tHEY STARTED CHANTING LOUDER FASTER TILL THEY DEVOLVED INTO CHEERING. and Honestly, go off since you have to keep coming back to this bs

NO MAJORITY, NO SPEAKER CHOSEN McHenry immediately calls recess
TAKEAWAYS AND NEWS
The thursday closed meeting was 4 HOURS and Jordan had a SECONDARY MEETING with the holdouts for 2 MORE HOURS after that. DURING that meeting Jordan was REPORTEDLY told "He'd never be speaker."
Spartz had said that she'd back Jordan one more time, but if he lost again she would vote for someone else.
Jordan supporters said something to the effect of, It's not Jordan's fault Republicans who don't vote for him are getting death threats, it's their fault for not voting for Jordan. (AND LIKE HELLO???) Another Republican lady was like, I get death threats all the time, and I'm sorry for them but suck it up, so .. a lot of sypmathy.
Gaetz and the other 8 repubs that voted to ouster McCarthy (sealing his fates as none of the dems would vote for him) have come forwar offering themselves if that's what it takes to get Jordan nominated. Offering that they'd take sanctions and removal from the conference (basically getting kicked out of the party though they're saying they'd still be repubs??? and it would kick them off of their committee seats... so could we do it anyway??? llol). Gaetz says that he thinks this BS is actually GOOD GOVERNING (sure Jan) and tHEN ASKS, What else do they want, except a pound of our flesh?" (Which like... they want NOT FUCKING J JORDAN AS THE SPEAKER)
Jeffries did a Press conference and offers bipartisan stuff but like, man am I sicsik of that being kinda empty cause the Repubs will never and the Dems wont sacrifice human rights, so it's a moot point.
A lot of Republicans were defending this BS by pointing out how may times McCarthy had to run the vote but like THAT WAS ALSO BAD AND A SHIT SHOW
It was PROJECTED that Jordan would lose 5-8, 10max, voters, he only lost three but still
THE LAST TIME SOMEONE GOT THIS LOW OF VOTES WAS 1923, FINNIS GARRET GOT 195 VOTES. JORDAN SURPASSED HIM... MAKING HISTORY....
Brian Tyler Cohen made a interesting correlation of Jordan being an election denier making sense as he was refusing to accept his losses.
AFTERMATH
The Republicans held another closed door meeting (THEY'VE BEEN CALLING THEM ""FAMILY MEETINGS"") where they held an anonymous vote as to whether or not Jordan should continue as the nominee. HE FUCKING LOST in his OWN PARTY'S MEETING.
HE HAS removed himself as a nominee. We are back to square one.
McHenry announced that they were taking a 72/weekend break and would be back on monday to do a candidate forum (to some dissent, and many lawmakers just WANT THIS DONE WITH)
The repubs that have offered themselves as tribute
(With the assumption that they are boilerplate Repubs. over LGBTQ+, Abortion, Taxes, Immigration, etc etc. *Election denier means they have made statements, did not support the ratifying of the electoral college votes, voted against impeachment and investigations.)
Tom Emmer - not an election denier at minimum, current GOP Whip (assistant leader)
Kevin Hern - Already tried before Scalise got nominated and dropped out (election denier)
Austin Scott - Was close to Jordan in numbers for the repub speaker nominee (didn't argue electoral college shit and has said USA voting is solid, but didn't go after Jan 6/trump)
Byron Donalds - the dude the Fuckaround 8 kiiinda backed against McCarthy in JAN. (election denier)
Jack Bergman - apparently wanted to challenge Jordan but didn't, JUMPED when jordan was out (election denier)
Jodey Arrington - only said he was considering, but apparently others have brought him up as an option (election denier)
Mike Johnson - has been calling around to see if ppl support him as speaker (election denier)
Pete Sessions - ALSO jumped when jordan was out (election denier)
FINAL THOUGHTS
So ends our sordid tale of Jim Jordan. May he feel stupid about this for the rest of time.
No Republican speaker is going to be good but jfc can we not have literal government destroyers????
I guess the pass on the budget was for 45 days, we have spent 18 (to be 20) of them on this bs.
SHOULD I KEEP NAMING THESE VOTE 2, DISASTER BOOGALOO since it is still technically the 2nd speaker vote of this congress, or should I name it something else now that Jordan is out?
Next (Starting Over) >

House Republicans may be relieved that they finally have a Speaker after 22 days of infighting. But the rest of the country should worry that there's a far right extremist second in line to the presidency. "MAGA Mike" Johnson is even more extreme than Trump on some issues.
Election denier, climate skeptic, anti-abortion: seven beliefs of new US House speaker Mike Johnson
He tried to overturn the 2020 election In the modern Republican party, supporting Donald Trump’s lie about voter fraud in his defeat by Joe Biden is hardly an outlandish position. But Johnson took it further. After the election, he voiced support for Trump’s conspiracy theory that voting machines were rigged. Later, he was one of 147 Republicans to object to results in key states, even after a pro-Trump mob attacked Congress on January 6, a riot now linked to nine deaths and hundreds of convictions. [ ... ] He was a spokesperson for a ‘hate group’ Before entering politics, Johnson worked for the Alliance Defending Freedom – designated a hate group by the Southern Law Poverty Center, which tracks US extremists. According to the SPLC, the ADF has “supported the recriminalisation of sexual acts between consenting LGBTQ+ adults in the US and criminalisation abroad; defended state-sanctioned sterilisation of trans people abroad; contended that LGBTQ+ people are more likely to engage in paedophilia; and claimed that a ‘homosexual agenda’ will destroy Christianity and society”. [ ... ] He opposes LGBTQ+ rights In state politics and at the national level, Johnson has worked to claw back gains made by LGBTQ+ Americans in their fight for equality. In 2016, as he ran for Congress, he told the Louisiana Baptist Message he had “been out on the front lines of the ‘culture war’ defending religious freedom, the sanctity of human life and biblical values, including the defense of traditional marriage, and other ideals like these when they’ve been under assault”. He has since led efforts for a national “don’t say gay” bill, regarding the teaching of LGBTQ+ issues in schools, and is also opposed to gender-affirming care for children. On Wednesday, Rev Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, executive director of the Campaign for Southern Equality, said: “Johnson has made a career out of attacking the LGBTQ+ community at every turn." His positions are out of touch with the clear majority support for LGBTQ+ equality in our country. His new leadership role is just further proof of the dangerous priorities of the GOP and the critical stakes for our democracy – and for LGBTQ+ Americans – in 2024.” [ ... ] He is stringently anti-abortion Johnson has maintained a relatively low profile in Congress but when last year the supreme court removed the right to abortion, Johnson celebrated “a historic and joyful day”. Though Dobbs v Jackson returned abortion rights to the states, Johnson has co-sponsored bills for a nationwide ban. And as he neared his position of power, footage spread of striking remarks in a House hearing. “Roe v Wade did constitutional cover to the elective killing of unborn children in America, period,” Johnson said. [ ... ] He wants to cut social security and Medicare As those comments indicate, Johnson wants to cut programs on which millions rely. Such cuts are widely regarded as a political third-rail – Trump has used the issue to attack Republican presidential rivals, saying only he will defend such benefits – but Johnson is far from alone in wanting to swing the axe. He is an advocate for ‘covenant marriage’ When he married his wife, Kelly, in 1999, the couple agreed to a “covenant” marriage: a conservative Christian idea that makes it harder to divorce. The Johnsons promoted the idea on ABC’s Good Morning America. [ ... ] He is a climate skeptic In 2017, Johnson told voters in his oil-rich home state: “The climate is changing, but the question is, is it being caused by natural cycles over the span of the Earth’s history? Or is it changing because we drive SUVs? I don’t believe in the latter. I don’t think that’s the primary driver.”
You'd really have to try hard to find somebody worse than MAGA Mike. But we're not without the power of the vote; we need to use that power every chance we get.
November 7th is Election Day in many parts of the US. Most notably...
Ohio's statewide ballot measure to restore reproductive freedom by placing a woman's right to choose in the Ohio Constitution. A YES vote on Issue 1 takes abortion out of the hands of the gerrymandered GOP legislature.
Kentucky's Democratic governor is up for re-election.
The Virginia legislature is up for election. If Republicans gain control of both chambers they will try to ban abortion; reproductive tyranny is part of the GOP agenda whenever they hold a trifecta in a state. There's also a special election to fill a vacancy for a US House seat in VA-04.
The state legislature in New Jersey is up for election.
There are judicial elections in Pennsylvania including for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. There's also a special election to fill a vacancy in the Penn House of Representatives which is currently tied 101 Democrats – 101 Republicans.
All state offices in Mississippi including governor and legislature are up for election. Surprisingly, polls show the GOP incumbent governor ahead by just 1% with 10% undecided.
Like Mississippi, all state offices in Louisiana are up for election.
Rhode Island has a special election to fill a vacancy for a US House seat in RI-01.
^^^ Those are just the highlights. There are elections of some sort in most states on November 7th.
Republicans may grumble at times, but they always turn out for elections. They have a disproportionate amount of power in the US because they vote while many of their liberal neighbors stay home or become too ideologically persnickety.
Allegedly "moderate" GOP House members ultimately fell in line and unanimously backed a far right Speaker.
Elections at all levels count. Speaker "MAGA Mike" Johnson got his start in politics in the Louisiana legislature. He is now the highest ranking GOP elected official in the US.
There's no such thing as an unimportant election. Vote in the November 7th election and actively encourage like-minded friends, family, and neighbors to do so as well.
Be A Voter - Vote Save America

Jim Jordan frantically trying to get enough votes to become House Speaker. He needs 217 but only got 199. Whomp whomp.
Note that Hakeem Jeffries (DEMOCRAT!!) has more votes. In a Republican controlled House. That's freekin nuts, but underscores how much Jordan is loathed by pretty much everyone.
Note also that some clever troll voted for John Boehner. Hilarious.
Jordan is quitting for the day. No more votes expected.

Emily Singer at Daily Kos:
Mike Johnson finally secured the speakership on the first ballot after three GOP lawmakers initially voted against his candidacy during a tumultuous start for the 119th Congress on Friday. Johnson could afford to lose just one vote and win the gavel. But Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, and Keith Self of Texas initially voted against Johnson, which would have blocked the Louisiana Republican from winning a majority of the ballots—and handed him an embarrassing defeat. Initially, Massie voted for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Norman voted for Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, and Self voted for Florida GOP Rep. Byron Donalds. However, none of these Republicans were officially running for the position. However, after some politicking on the House floor and negotiation by Johnson, Norman and Self changed their votes to support Johnson, giving him the speaker’s gavel.
The move was critical because Congress needs a House speaker by Jan. 6 to certify Donald Trump’s presidential victory, which is expected to happen on Monday. Johnson’s rocky vote is a bad sign for Republicans’ ability to govern since keeping a conference unified to pick a leader should be the easiest vote of a Congress. And the GOP has no room to spare to pass Trump’s destructive agenda, as Republicans have the narrowest majority in nearly 100 years.
Incumbent House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) retains his post on the first ballot in the 119th Congress Speaker vote after horse-trading from Reps. Ralph Norman (R-SC) and Keith Self (R-TX) to switch their votes to Johnson under pressure from Donald Trump. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the lone Republican to vote against Johnson.
As for the Democrats, everyone voted for Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
Johnson’s grip on the job gets a temporary reprieve, but could be put under pressure again.
